This is a real mixed bag of a place, with some really nice aspects and some not-so-good features. The building is wonderful and exudes a sense of historical importance. It is well-maintained and there are free tours in the afternoons, which is a very nice idea. The location cannot be beaten either; everything is within easy walking distance and the valet car parking worked very well. Check-in was amazingly slow. Maybe we were just unlucky and arrived at a particularly busy point in the afternoon, but there was lots of to-ing and fro-ing of people behind the reception desk, and lots of people waiting to be seen. There was a general impression of semi-organised chaos. We were shown up to our room, which looked out over the outdoor bar area. If you value your sleep, don't have a room here. The bar shuts at 2 am and until then, it is very noisy. After one night of that, we got our room changed. Both of our rooms were comfortable but rather dark and uninspiring. And I don't like showers over baths; a personal thing, perhaps, but I would much prefer a room with just a shower rather than having to climb over the wall of a bath in order to get to the shower. The bathroom had a brilliant set of amenities, though, which included mouthwash. Full marks for that. We tried the bar one evening and didn't need to return. Service was woefully slow, with the serving staff all running around like headless chickens barking into earpieces. It was not a relaxing or elegant experience, and while there was a large range of cocktails on offer, the barman had no clue what a 'dry martini' was. The pool was very nice; a good size and with plenty of seating around it. We loved the free sorbets that we were offered and the servers at the little bar were very friendly and attentive. In all its a hotel that thinks it is rather better than it actually is; there are too many aspects that don't meet my expectations when paying these prices and so, in all, not a hotel I need to stay at again.

I had seen a photo of the hotel and read a bit of it's history—built between 1916 and 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, but nothing would have prepared me for this extraordinarily beautiful, dream-like example of Neo-Mudejar style. We literally gasped. I took many photos and have included some. Marriott took it over (although the historic building belongs to the city!) and happily, any updates were not noticeable except in its great comfort—beds, bath that retained original tiles and was about the size of my first apartment, and other amenities. My title refers, however, to the building yes, but even more important—the staff. It may seem odd to say that by the end of our 5 days, we felt a close connection to them, nurtured! Not like a hotel at all. This was due to Antonio Morilla, the head concierge, who immediately understood the kind of places we wanted to eat and where we wanted to go other than the cathedral and Alcazar, for which I had already booked tickets. Thanks to him, we spent a day across the river wandering in Triana and learning about Andalusian ceramics past and present. Triana has a different vibe from Seville and we enjoyed its neighborhoods , especially the parts along the river. Antonio steered us to tapas and high end cuisine. His knowledge about not just the city, but I'd have to say its soul enriched our stay. He also made sure we didn't get lost! A caring individual—many thanks for the beautiful book you gave us and earlier the special bottle of wine!— as was the concierge Irene Velasco. The hotel offers a tour at 6 Saturday evenings that one may book, which we did. Irene was our guide and we were the only ones on it. It was fun to go up to the roof terrace and other parts of the hotel, plus learn about King Alfonso XVIII whom it seems oversaw ever aspect of the construction! We ended in the fantastic Art Deco Bar Americano with photos of patrons such as Hemingway (of course), Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Peter O'Toole, presenting us with the bar's special Seville orange mimosas and tapas!Leaving Sunday morning, we met Carlo Suffredini , the general manager, and were able to thank him in person for the Cava he had sent to the room and the violets in sugar plus tell him about Antonio, Irene, Francisco, concierge, and those like Christian on the front desk. The fact that the staff is long serving is a tribute to his management and the kind of grand hotel that still seems like home he oversees. Muchas Gracias and we will be back! We are in love with Sevilla and the Alfonso!

First of all, this hotel is absolutely stunning. It is like staying in a museum. The lobby and public areas are gorgeous. Even the hallways to the guest rooms is stunning. You really feel like you are staying in a palace. We had the basic King Room and it was fantastic. The room was gorgeous and the bead was very comfortable. The location of the hotel is amazing. You can walk to many of the sites and shops. I loved it. Everyone from the front desk staff, the concierge, the room service staff and the cleaners was five stars. I’d stay here again in an instant.

Wonderful hotel right in the middle of Seville and therefore walkable to its attractions. Despite its location it was quiet at night and we slept well in the very comfortable beds. The hotel itself is beautiful from the imposing entrance and central courtyard to the guest rooms and all public areas. The staff were all friendly and helpful, most of the front desk speak several languages. The hotel is not cheap but, if you can afford it, is worth it.

Perfect location also. But, why three stars? Because of service. Service doesn't exist here. I'm not saying it's bad. But, staff here don't greet. Just busy doing their work. I'm not saying it's a bad service. Just don't expect any staff to say hello, open the door, push elevator button, etc. Service is key part in five star hotels but not here. Reception is not that welcoming when checking in. And, no explanation of any sort about the hotel. They'll just hand you the room key and that's it. I had to ask where the elevator is , bar, restaurants etc. Also, no staff at the pool, no towels, no drink service.

I first stay here 20 years ago and for so long been wanting to come back. It is beautiful but on closer inspection it's beginning to feel dated and whilst staff always helpful the service is slow. Food in the restaurant is great, but you cannot be serving cold food in the American bar, especially as we arrived later than anticipated on our first night. The bathroom facilities are really showing their age and I'm sorry but mould is not something one associates with prestigious hotels. Would I come back... 🤔

The architecture and decoration of the public areas are impressive, but I was expecting more: the hotel is very busy with external visitors who take pictures, receptionists did not make you feel welcome, the room looked a bit tired and in need of some renovation and update, the breakfast buffet looked very good at first but lacked refinement (no fresh juice, industrial bread, etc.), service at breakfast was pretty poor. The rooms are a bit hit and miss: some are dark, others are too close to the tram or with almost no view. Good fitness in the garden, next to the pool (not heated, so of limited use outside the summer). My impression is that the hotel rests on its reputation and gets away with it because the big groups keep coming anyway. Like other reviewers have said, maybe better to have a drink or a meal at the hotel and stay outside the tourist area.

Stayed for 3 nights in a standard room (no upgrades for titanium members) Room on the third floor was facing a parking lot, but we didn't mind as it was very quiet (not sure if it had been the same with the rooms facing the courtyard, as they have many events there). The hotel is in a fantastic location, everything is reachable on foot, the building itself is stunning. The, outdoor, pool is really nice, the fitness is small but does the job. Some restaurants were closed during our stay, breakfast is nice with plenty of choices. We had drinks/tapas at Ena, the outdoor terrace, it seems to be a very popular place, with many outside guests, it was quite disorganized, all the staff were very junior and while it can be refreshing, they clearly lacked supervision (part of the orders got forgotten, glasses broken, they kept gathering by the bar having fun with each other. Late check out was no issue, the internet was fast and reliable and, in general, everyone we interacted with was friendly.

The hotel is truly magnificent, from the driveway approach, thru to reception and into the open courtyard area surrounded by the hotel’s excellent restaurants. The American bar is a real throwback to the good old days of hotel bars. The check in was seamless, very professional and informative. The room was very large, with an amazing bathroom, balcony overlooking the town centre. Extremely quiet even in the morning when the commuters start to arrive. The hotel restaurant was excellent, a good choice on offer, and not too expensive. Good selection of wines. A special thanks to Antonio on the concierge desk, who arranged an amazing private tour of the cathedral and alcazar. As I was celebrating my birthday, the hotel laid on some cava and cake for the day, very thoughtful. Certainly a return visit to the hotel when we are next in Sevilla.
