**Decent Stay but Falls Short of Five-Star Expectations

We had a pleasant two-night stay at Hospes Palau de la Mar, but I wouldn’t consider it a five-star hotel—more like a four-star by European standards. The location was decent, about a 10-minute walk from the city center. While not exactly central, it was still convenient. We also walked to the Oceanogràfic aquarium and the Science Museum through a park, which took about 30 minutes. It was a nice walk, though a bit long. The hotel has a spa with a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and a small gym. However, access to the spa and gym was restricted by a locked gate requiring a PIN, meaning you had to ask reception each time to unlock it. At one point, I couldn’t open the gate to leave, and if not for a passerby heading to the restroom, I might have been stuck there for a while. This system felt inconvenient and inflexible. We booked a double room with a package that included welcome drinks, a bottle of cava in the room, a dinner for two, and a 30-minute massage for two. It was a good deal overall. However, when making the reservation, I specifically requested a quiet room away from the elevator on an upper floor. Ironically, we were assigned a room right next to the elevator on the lowest floor (1st). While I understand availability may have been limited, the staff didn’t acknowledge or explain this during check-in. Additionally, we had reserved dinner for 8 PM, but the staff booked us for 9 PM instead. The room itself was quite dark, with limited natural light, and the black-themed furniture made it feel even darker. Our package also included breakfast, but the selection was very limited. On the positive side, the staff were polite throughout our stay.

Super hotel, really well-placed for visiting the local sites and just beside the Turia Gardens. We easily walked into central Valencia and through the gardens to the City of Arts and Sciences. We had a large comfy room with a huge bathroom on the ground floor by the outside dining area. It felt a bit dark and smelt a little musty when we first arrived but it was fine. The hotel breakfast was one of the nicest I have had for years, with a wide range of delicious things, including fresh orange juice and scrambled egg cooked to order. Staff were charming and helpful. My husband and I had very nice spa treatments but the water in the small indoor pool needed better cleaning/filtering as there seemed to be a large amount of debris (!) floating around in the illuminated water.

This property has a 5 star rating, but is badly in need of renovation. There is a run down feeling throughout, dirty or damaged upholstery & rugs in common areas & in our room. This hotel represents itself as a Marriott member through Design Hotels, yet they have decided not to offer certain benefits under the Bonvoy program, such as complementary breakfast & upgrade. As a Titanium member, it was very disappointing to learn this at check in, & we received neither benefit as a result of our loyalty. This "opting out" by the property should have been made clear at the time of booking. The hotel has also chosen not to use the Marriott app, for example for check in & messaging, which was inconvenient. Other negatives were: Old, worn towels & bathrobes, lumpy mattresses. Positives: Housekeeping, location & several helpful front desk employees, but not all. This hotel was disappointing & a poor value.

We had a pleasant stay in what I would categorise as a 4* hotel that needed attention if it was to retain that star rating. What I liked: 1. The staff were all very pleasant and I suspect that the issues that I raise were not their fault but rather the fault of the systems in place. 2. The bed and pillows were comfortable. 3. The hotel was conveniently situated in the old town. What needs attention: 1. Our room was a ‘deluxe’ one I assume based on size alone . But it needed some serious TLC- the grout round the bath needed attention as there were sections that were black; the wooden ledge against the wall had a hole in it in which someone had put a used coffee pod; the ledge was chipped; the bedside light didn’t work as I discovered on the last night. 2. Breakfast was extremely disappointing for a 5* hotel. The first morning (Thursday) was chaotic with not enough staff to deal with the customers - the first coffee ordered when we sat down arrived but a second one never appeared and we gave up; the coffee machine and ‘system’ of serving it was hopeless even when the restaurant wasn’t full- a second cup was very hit and miss in that it might arrive or it might arrive and be awful; while the food was nice no one seemed to keep an eye on whether things had run out which they often did. If there’s a huge choice that might not matter quite so much but as there wasn’t, it did matter. 3. Many clients will leave for very early flights as we did. I would expect in those circumstances to have the cost of the last breakfast taken off the bill or more agreeably to be provided with a delicious picnic breakfast as we were done months ago from the wonderful Hotel Casa Cacao in Gerona. Neither were offered . The hotel could do so much better !

Sadly not a 5 star experience! The hotel room in the courtyard area was small with a strange layout including the bed placed in middle of room but minus a headboard! The pedal bin in the toilet was damaged and needed replaced. The hotel looked tired and in need of a refurb in some areas including broken decking in courtyard. My son had paid for drinks and chocs to our room for arrival as a birthday surprise, but they didn’t arrive so he had to contact the hotel to remind them. Some staff very friendly but overall lack of attention to detail and awareness, we had to constantly try to attract attention of staff at breakfast. The hotel location is excellent but it is not a patch on its sister hotel in Alicante, which is why I chose the hotel, so was very disappointed.

Just back from a wonderful stay at the Hospes Palau de la Mar. The hotel is in a very convenient position within walking distance to everything, close to bus stops and the Metro. All the staff were fabulous, very friendly and accommodating. We were absolutely delighted to discover we had a private terrace with two chairs and a table; what a bonus! The decor was super, just white walls and dark wood, all in keeping with the lovely building. It was clean, quiet, great shower…..I simply can’t fault it. We made use of the pool, which is small but perfect for a refreshing dip (book in with the reception staff). We had a great stay in Valencia, it’s an interesting and very beautiful city. We felt safe everywhere we went and were impressed with everyone’s friendliness. Highly recommended.

Not a 5 star hotel by any means. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. Common spaces are ok. Restaurant is good. Our room ( junior suite) was totally outdated. White walls with no decoration, big bathroom but shower very small, lots of scratches in the parquet, old furniture, a smell (drain) sometimes in the room, water pressure of shower so so etc. If they totally refurbish their rooms ( urgently needed) it will be 4 stars. We came from a real five star hotel in Madrid and it was a day and night difference.

Overall we had a good experience at this hotel. The location was very good and the staff were great. We booked a Superior room and were disappointed with this (size in particular). We were moved to a Deluxe room after one night, which we enjoyed for the rest of our stay. Breakfast was excellent with delightful staff. The bar felt like a bit of an afterthought, rather than part of the hotel experience. We enjoyed our stay here but feel this is a four star hotel, rather than five star.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here recently. We chose this property due to its location and because it is a part of the Bonvoy portfolio. My husband is Titanium Elite and as such we were upgraded to a bigger room, which was much appreciated. We were greeted warmly by reception when we arrived and were offered a welcome drink of cava. When we came back to our room in the evening we were pleasantly surprised with a welcome gift of a bottle of cava and plate of fruits. It was a lovely gesture and overall we could find no fault with the hotel.

Hubby and I stayed at this beautiful hotel during our hols in Valencia. I communicated with the hotel regarding airport transfers and restaurants prior to arrival and they have always been very responsive. We were greeted by welcoming staff upon arrival and were allocated a room in the terrace area. Quite a decent room with a huge bathroom and air con of coz. Only drawback is the lack of ability to open windows for some fresh air. We did have a big puddle of water just outside the shower but hotel staff cleaned this up whilst we were dining. The hotel is round the corner of Colon Plaza. Extremely handy for walking distance. Walking to the north station is only 20 mins and then onwards to the old town. It is quite a nice escape from the old town at times. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and literally can’t wait to return

Our two-night stay at this hotel had its ups and downs. The location was undeniably great, and the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. We made a specific request for a quiet room, and although we were assured that it would be, unfortunately, it ended up being near a service room, resulting in some noise disturbances from service vehicles. On a brighter note, the beds were comfortable, and the room itself was pleasant with a nice overall decor. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast, which offered a satisfying start to our days. However, our experience took a turn for the worse at the lounge/cafe. The service was excruciatingly slow, and the quality of the food left much to be desired. This was disappointing considering the positive aspects of our stay. Additionally, finding the entrance to the hotel with our car proved to be a bit of a challenge, even with navigation assistance. In summary, while there were aspects of our stay that we appreciated, such as the location and comfortable accommodations, the issues with noise and disappointing dining experience tempered our overall satisfaction. Despite this, the value for the price paid was reasonable.

We had a very nice stay here. This was actually our 3rd hotel in Valencia on our trip and by far the best. We booked a Dreamer Double Room, but I believe we got upgraded due to being Marriott members (not sure what level we are). It was a 10-minute walk to the Mestalla Stadium which is why we were here, but this is our favorite part of the town. Its also right next to a beautiful park and 5 minutes away from a nice eating market called Mercat La Boqueria (Central Market of Valencia). The room was spacious, the bathroom was large and very nice, the water pressure on the shower was fantastic. The wifi was a little spotty. The hotel staff was amazing! Overall a fantastic stay!
