Reviews of Hilton Sorrento Palace
Visited this hotel for our honeymoon at the start of August. We had the most amazing time and would highly recommended this hotel. Staff were all very helpful and they gave us a lovely bottle of champagne on arrival for our honeymoon celebrations.

Treated us like bums. We are a well off couple in our early 70s, they must have thought we were thieves or beggars. We were nicely dressed and have been long-time Hilton customers. The disrespect and dismissive attitude by the lobby and bar staff was insulting. They ignored us for 20 minutes and the place was almost empty. We ended up leaving and spent our money elsewhere. One word sums this place up... pretentious. Avoid it and go elsewhere.

Coming back is a bit uphill but not too bad. Buffet breakfast has amazing view and great staff. Highly recommend this place. Sorrento vs Naples is a big question that I had for visiting Amalfi. No question : Sorrento. We took Italo train from Rome and it comes with a bus service from Naples terminal to Sorrento, The train service from Naples to Sorrento which we took as part of a Pompeii tour: not recommended at all as it is crowded. To get to Naples airport early early in the morning was another worry: the hotel arranged a private car service and added it to our room and it was impeccable too. Expensive but worth it. So overall not recommended to stay in Naples if you want to visit capri and Amalfi etc

Had the best time especially the summer garden party. The band were amazing. The staff were allowed to join in and dance. The views, service and staff were great. Brilliant location. Views are magnificent. We definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Sorrento. Well done Hilton.

Rooms were nice, although their beds were uncomfortable. (EXTREMELY firm!). The breakfast area LOOKED so nice, it had many choices, HOWEVER the manager in charge of the breakfast service was extremely rude and mean! We were so upset by his behavior - we took pictures of him on our last morning. TRY TO AVOID him if you can, as he requires a big €€€ “tip” to be seated by a window! Each morning we asked to be seated by a window, and EACH morning he flatly refused us. We actually BEGGED him on our last morning, and he snapped “NO!” We were flabbergasted that he always walked off leaving our €20 EURO tip in our hands. Needless to say, it was very frustrating to see other couples seated (by HIM) gby a window AFTER we had asked. SADLY, another breakfast guest shared with us (on our last morning there) that this manager REQUIRES a €40 minimum tip to seat guests by a window. HILTON should INFORM their guests that this manager requires a €40 EURO (or more) to be seated by a window! We would have paid that for just ONE nice view for ONE morning of our stay! The rest of the hotel staff were very pleasant, but this “Breakfast Manager” was truly rude! We are excited that we will be back in 2025, but we will NOT be staying at this Hilton as a result of our experience. Again, we felt that Hilton should have informed us of this €40 tip requirement. It would have been nice to have one nice morning breakfast there.

Great food choice. Recently opened roof bar and pool. Top notch service and stunning views over Sorrento and the bay of Naples. You pay a little bit to use the roof bar and pool but worth it. No kids under 12 allowed. Waiter service to sun bed and fantastic. Call out to the very pleasant Fernandinho and the superb cocktail maker Matteo. Loved this place and will for sure return. Thank you for the exceptional service.

Good location, close enough to everything but still quiet. About a 10 minute walk to downtown down a short hill. The pool and restaurants were good. They provided me lounge access for my second room for my parents as a diamond member which was a nice perk but the executive lounge services were pitiful. Breakfast was runny eggs, beans, and burnt bacon. No waters to take and no apertivo in the evenings. The upgraded rooms were spacious, but air conditioning was not good. I had set to 67 and never went below 72. Early check in didn’t happen.

The Hilton Sorrento Palace is situated above Sorrento on a hill but just 10 minutes walk into the town. This is the first reason we picked this hotel. The second reason was because it had a tennis court (of which more later). The first thing to be aware of is on check in we were advised that the hotel charges 40 Euros A DAY for wi-fi. However, this charge can be avoided if you sign up to Hilton Honours (whatever that is) which is free to join and involves you giving them your email address. So basically this is translated as “give us your email address so we can bombard you with emails or else we will charge you huge amounts for wi-fi” (and other items in the room, towels and the rest). So of course, everyone hands over their email address to avoid this daylight robbery. Not a good start. We had booked a King Superior Sea View Room. So, some good and bad here. First the bad. The room was surprisingly small. We paid more (a lot more) for this room and were disappointed at how snug it was. The rooms on the other side of the corridor were identical but had a view of the side of a mountain instead. That was the only difference. The balcony is small with no drying rack. This was odd in a holiday hotel. Usually at 4 Star level this is provided, either fixed or pulled out from the wall and is extremely useful. Very frustrating that this was not there. The air conditioning was good but there was only an on/off. No fan setting! This was very odd indeed and we had never seen this before. Air con units always have a fan setting with high, medium and low options. We always put low setting on at night as it’s less noisy. Without this basic option the air conditioning was either on and noisy or off and too hot. Too hot was difficult in the hot weather so I had to wear my ear plugs every night to block out the noise of the motor. The bed was big and appeared comfortable at first although we both woke with stiff backs every morning which persisted throughout the day. On investigation the mattress was deep but not particularly firm and had a mattress topper on top of it (something a lot of hotels are doing now). There was no separate work area – just one table top so it was a squash (I am self employed and need to work when I’m away). No hotel paper and pens – not essential, just always there in 4 star hotels – but not this one. Now, here’s the biggest bad of them all. The shower was DREADFUL. The water pressure was nonexistent. Literally a pathetic dribble. Even worse, when you turned the temperature cooler, the water flow virtually disappeared altogether. So, we could not have a cool shower (not great after an hour of tennis in 32 degrees). I have long thick hair and washing it was painful. It took forever. We did mention this at reception and they sent someone up but there was nothing they could do. I work in property maintenance and this shower needed a water pump fitted. It was not fit for purpose and really did affect us quite a lot. A weary resigned sigh on getting in the shower and a process that took three times as long under a trickle. Not acceptable. Now the good The fridge was very good. The safe was a good size easily accommodating laptops etc. There were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. This was really good. Usually there are never enough hangers so I always bring my own but they were not needed this time. We liked the Crabtree & Evelyn products. Clean towels every day was very nice. Two hooks on the back of the bathroom door is excellent and very useful. Incidentally, the corridors leading to the rooms were devoid of any interior decoration and soulless. We could have been in an IBIS or Premier Inn. Dining – breakfast was the usual buffet and had a wide choice although not much fresh fruit. But there was no-one serving tea and coffee to your table, which is something we have always had at 4 star level before. Even worse, the coffee was from a machine. Machine coffee is always awful and this was no exception. My husband likes tea but there was no boiling water, just an urn with “hot water”. Europeans never get tea right. So he gave up and went without for the whole holiday. There were instant coffee sachets in the room (along with kettle etc) so I took those down to the restaurant every morning instead. Not ideal. The bars were nice, in particular the one on the top floor which we really liked and had great views. Tennis – if you are not interested in tennis you don’t need to read this bit. If you are, read on. We were told the tennis court was free to use. When we saw it we understood why. It was in a TERRIBLE state (I attach photos). It was full of cracks and potholes and in urgent need of repair. In fact, there was a sign saying it was closed for maintenance. However, no-one seems to have told Reception this as you could still book it. So we ignored the sign and played anyway. We had brought our own tennis stuff with us so were determined to play. We didn’t book the court as there was no-one else playing on it (preferring the padel courts next to it which are 40 Euros an hour). So don’t be fooled by the photo of a pristine tennis court on the hotel website. It’s virtually unplayable on. The hotel should either repair it now or remove that photo. This is misinformation and not acceptable. Staff – the staff were brilliant. Friendly and helpful throughout. Our particular thanks to the gentlemen at reception who went out of his way to get the US Open Semi-Final on the TV for us in the bar. We really appreciated it. Swimming pool area – the pool was very nice. It’s actually split into layers to look like four or five pools. The water was a good temperature. Towels were provided. Sun beds were basic. We expected something a bit better for a 4 star hotel. Overall, we had a nice stay and I don’t normally give such a long review. It’s just all those little things that let it down. When you see the word “Hilton” in a hotel title, you expect a certain standard, and for what we paid, we feel that standard was not met. In many ways it felt more like a 3 star than a 4 star. If those minor issues could be addressed it would become more what we expected. And if anyone from the hotel reads this, for goodness sake sort the shower out!

Not the usual Hilton standard. We arrived, and immediately tried to check back out. The pool is very tired, with missmatched sun loungers. You have to check a towel in and out, and has very slow pool service. (We waited 50 minutes for a bottle of water). A 10% service charge is added to everything, regardless of whether you go and queue and collect the drink yourself. The pool restaurant doesn’t give any change, so be mindful. We gave a 10 euro note for a bottle of water and received no change. The manager showed us the ‘nicer’ pool on the seventh floor, with a quicker service, he offered us free access in exchange for us not checking out. We agreed to this- however we regret it so much! We hadn’t seen our room at that point as it wasn’t ready, once we did we were even more disappointed! The room was large but bare. There is no furniture in the room apart from the beds & built in wardrobes! Our room was facing the mountain, so we had NO natural light at all coming into our room. It was so depressing, it was always dark. We missed opening the curtains to sunshine, and it had such a negative impact on our stay. We spent as little time as possible in the room due to this, forget having a nice drink on the balcony or a morning coffee in the room. It felt like a prison. They also failed to mention that the level 7 pool doesn’t open until 11am, and loses the sun at 4pm due to the mountain position. On our last day we headed up to the rooftop pool to find it closed. Without any explanation, so we didn’t have the access promised on this day. The final straw was lunch by the pool, when I had a broken finger nail in my drink. The manager was apologetic and offered to replace my drink as an apology but nothing else was really done, this put us off eating at the hotel. The hotel is around a 15 minutes walk from other restaurants so you’re a bit stuck, the food is higher priced than other local places as well. All staff we encountered were kind and helpful, and that’s the main reason I’ve given the extra star. We would avoid if your visiting sorrento.
