The location is terrific! We loved the beach cabanas. Ask for Manuel to help arrange and Ismael and Alberto were fabulous servers at the beach. They were very attentive and helpful. We dined at Vela several times and were lucky enough to have Jahir as our waiter each time. He was knowledge about wines and gave friendly service each time. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that the rooms don’t have blackout curtains and the beds could be more comfortable. Already discussing when we can return!

We have been coming to The Hilton Los Cabos resort for 13 years. It truly feels like our home away from home. There is something so special about this resort that we come back every year. It is not just the beauty of the hotel, the well maintained property, the beautiful swimming pools and beaches. The rooms are generous sized, clean, comfy and have stunning views! We stay in the Altamar junior suite which is perfect for us! Twice daily maid service including turndown service. Every morning at breakfast our friendly staff of Ricardo, Juan Carlos, Benita and others remember us and welcome us with hugs, smiles and excitement! They are the best! At Vela dinner is wonderful and Jorge and Fernando take very good care of us and attention to details. The Altamar is the way to go, Ceasar was so helpful making all of our arrangements ahead of time. Our old friend Alfredo P the front office director we met 25-30 years ago at the Hilton Cancun. You all make us feel like friends and family. We love to see you and appreciate you! We are just happy staying all day at the beautiful infinity pools or lounging on the beach watching the whales. Dinner is always very good. We are sad to leave but know we will be back again soon. Thank you for making this feel like our home away from home. Anything you want from a vacation is here at The Hilton!

Beach/ pool: - We came in February and were overjoyed to watch whales all day everyday right from the pool and beach. I would come back again just for the whales! - one pro of booking this resort is it is located on one of the only swimmable beaches in los Cabos as they advertise. We walked over 30 mins in each direction and the Hilton was the only property with a nice swimmable beach. We loved being able to go in the ocean and would be good for kids to be able to play in the sand and water as at most resorts it’s unsafe to do so. - The beach is very walkable but due to the slight incline and give in the sand it is more of a workout compared to flat Caribbean beaches. Most people were barefoot but I found water shoes were nicer as the sand is more course and pebbly in areas. - Beach and pool areas are kept immaculately clean - Pool towels and service for food and drinks is great all day - Free amenities such as cool towelettes, fruit, smoothie shots, and popsicles are served throughout the day - Beach chairs are available at any time of the day - Pool chairs with the best ocean view are taken by 7-8 am. However chairs are available in less desirable locations at later times in the morning and throughout the day. - You can reserve pool platforms for $120 USD or cabanas for $180 USD if you want a prime spot but don’t want to wake up early. - Service at our chairs was excellent all day. Staff will help move chairs or umbrellas and check in for drink and food order regularly Food and drinks: - I will start by saying I read many reviews talking about the price of the food and drinks, but don’t really understand the frustration. This resort is not an all inclusive property- the prices of the food are on par with what I would expect to pay at a nice hotel. Also there really aren’t any surprises as this information is easily accessible. If you are looking to eat and drink all day this is absolutely not the property for you. That being said, yes if you were here as a family for a week food would be a significant additional cost to the vacation. - The food was also amazing everywhere we ate. Very fresh and much higher quality than your typical all inclusive resort in Mexico. Cocktails were also better than a typical all inclusive. - Breakfast: we booked the altamar level room through Costco so the full breakfast buffet was included in our rate. However if you didn’t book this room level the full breakfast would could $40 USD per person. Continental breakfast only includes fruit, pastries, coffee and wouldn’t be great if you only had that for a week. We loved the smoothie bar, fresh green juice every morning and some healthier options like chia pudding. - We also loved that breakfast was open until 11:30. On morning where we wanted to sleep in this was great and often we had a big breakfast around 10:30 and then just shared a lunch or snack at the pool. - Every time we ordered without fail we were asked about food allergies or dietary preferences and all staff were happy to accommodate adjustments - Lunch: options include tacos, pizza, salads, sushi, poke bowls etc. expect to pay $20-25 USD per meal. - Drinks: cocktails $16 USD per drink - Dinner: appetizers $20-25 and main courses around $50-70 USD. - Water: water is not free- bottled water is around $8 USD per bottle - Tips: all food and drinks comes with a 20% service charge. The service staff are unionized and this rate is set by the union. I was absolutely happy to pay this 1) because I would have tipped anyways and 2) I am glad they are guaranteed the tips they deserve for nothing but outstanding service. - Total my husband and it spent $1300 for a week vacation on food and drinks, however this was us ordering a couple drinks per day each so if you are drinking more your bill would likely be much higher. Service: - every staff member we encountered was amazing. As I said, we were happy to pay the service charges because every accommodation or adjustment we requested was met with a warm “of course, my pleasure”. Not that we asked for anything major but it was lovely to have such wonderful service in every area of the property. Altamar: - we upgraded to the altamar level room and think it was absolutely worth it: - 1) as I mentioned water is not free however altamar guests have their rooms stocked multiple times per day with all the water you need, plus beer, soft drinks, and hard seltzers. When water is around $8 USD per bottle this adds up. - 2) the altamar happy hour was great. Between 5-6 at sotol you can order unlimited drinks such as beer, wine, margaritas, mojitos etc. we are not big drinkers so between our room being stocked with beer and hard seltzer, and the altamar happy hour, on most days we only ordered one cocktail each at the pool. - 3) airport transfer was included - 4) breakfast buffet was included which as I mentioned otherwise would be $40 USD per person per day. So as a couple $80 USD/per day x 7 days breakfast alone would have cost $560 USD for the week. - When you add up the above booking the altamar level pays for itself. Yes there are ways to save money if you did not book altamar such as going to town and buying a flat of water or eating only the continental breakfast, but that wasn’t something we were going to do. Overall vibe: - The views from every area of the resort are gorgeous - this is not a party resort, which is why we booked it for a quiet couples getaway. There is no music or party vibe at all at the pool and you actually aren’t allowed to play music on your own speakers. The main pool was very social without people chatting and having fun and the adults pool was quieter. - Very clean, quiet, relaxing yet not stuffy at all. - While there is a family family side of the resort with an infinity pool, small kiddie pool and slide, small playground, and kids are welcome in the main pool area, there were not many kids at this property. We ate at the resort for dinner every night except once, and at the earliest times open (6:30pm) and there were no kids at dinner. This is not to say that kids wouldn’t be welcome and perhaps families chose to eat outside the resort but it’s worth mentioning. I would presume the cost of food on property is a natural deterrent for many families so it was mainly adults - That being said the kids side of the resort was super empty while we were here so you could easily get a seat any time and the pool area would be great for families. Lots of shade spots all day. TLDR: we would absolutely book again, beach and pool great, amazing views watching whales all day. Property clean and service great. Food and drinks delicious but be prepared to pay prices as above.

We stayed at this hotel because it was the one chosen by our family for a family wedding. I was a bit shocked at the price, but it truly was a beautiful hotel in a unique location you simply can't find anywhere else. The best part of the property is the infinity pool area and whale watching terrace (the terrace is just below where the edge of the pool drops off). During the winter months the waters just off short of the hotel are like a whale nursery with constant activity from humpbacks and grey whales. It was not uncommon to see 2 or more mom/baby pairs spouting together. The babies often breached or tried to :) Sometimes large whales would breach or tail slap. We did a whale watching tour, but if you are prone to motion sickness, watching from the hotel is perfect and can be nearly as close. The waters just off the beach get deep very quickly and whales sometimes come surprisingly close in areas where I previously had seen people jet-skiing or paddle-boarding. The pool was large and beautiful. The surface of the water is so peaceful that the reflections of the sunset/sunrise colors and the lights of the hotel at night were stunning. There's a swim up bar and plenty of waiters who were very helpful and not aggressive in selling drinks. There is an adult section to the pool, but it was always the most crowded. The quietest pool was the "kids pool" with hardly anyone there, a swim up bar, and a little waterslide. Waiters sometimes come around offering complimentary treats like smoothie shots or frozen grapes. The swimming area of the beach is very tiny. It - like all swimming beaches in Los Cabos - is a public beach, but it was never crowded. There is a large area in front of the hotel owned by the Hilton that has a lot of beach loungechairs and a few rentable cabanas. Waiters are very attentive, so you can get food and drinks served down there as well. We ate at the outdoor grill restaurant that looks out onto the ocean almost every day and never got tired of it. That one is pretty affordable. Christian was our waiter every day. We appreciated his good humor and recommendations. They have a big assortment of different kinds of tacos and wood-fired pizzas that were delicious. We ate once at the fancier poolside restaurant, Vela, which was very good. The service at this hotel was excellent across the board from the waiters to housekeeping to front desk to bell services. A warning about hotel location: There's really nothing around this hotel. It's not an area that you can walk around and get to other restaurants and businesses. It's gorgeous, but you are rather stuck there unless you pay for an uber or car services to take you 20-30 minutes away into San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas. Pack everything you might need (sunscreen, cold/allergy meds, dramamine, etc) because the hotel prices for convenience items are incredibly high. (A cousin told me that a bottle of sunscreen was $65 USD, not pesos) I'm pretty sure we were given bottled water twice a day because of Hilton Honors, so I'm not sure what other Americans were doing to get purified water for the room without paying very high prices for it. Maybe they filled it up in the gym? There is nothing to heat hot water in the room, so you'll pay $7 or 8 for coffee or hot cocoa from the cafes. I didn't mind because the cafe near the entrance had high quality hot cocoa with options for Mexican chocolate (with cinnamon), regular chocolate, or white chocolate. There was free coffee in the restaurant with the breakfast buffet without ordering the buffet, but my husband didn't like the quality of that coffee. There's also a Starbucks in the convenience store that also serves ice cream or gelato. Tips for room choice: We stayed in room 2026, which was one quick staircase up from the pool and very convenient. I highly recommend this room. I've included a view from our balcony. A review here on trip advisor had complained that palm trees blocked the whole view for rooms on the lower 2nd and 3rd floors and led me to believe that only 4th floor and above would have a decent view, so I used the Hilton Honors app to change to a room of the same price. When we arrived, my advance room choice for the high floor was not honored and we were offered room 2026. Because of what I'd read here, we pushed back on that, but then they just suggested that we go to the room and check out the view. One look showed us that it was perfectly spectacular and we didn't have to be concerned at all. Choose a room that is anywhere within the U shape of the hotel if you want to see the water side. I'd prefer to have a room like ours in either of the "arms" to be closer to the water. One arm faces more eastward for sunrise light and the other faces more westward for more sunset light, but either one is great. Our balcony was quite spacious. It has two little chairs and a small table. I could actually see whale spouts from the balcony without even leaving the room. Excessive Credit card room deposit: The front desk tried to tell us that they required a $400 PER NIGHT deposit from our credit card for incidentals at check in that would be refunded to us if we didn't use it all. That's almost as much as the room cost itself. That would be an insane amount to spend for incidentals. We had a long conversation with the manager about it that resulted in them not taking a deposit. As a result, we sacrificed being able to charge drinks or meals to the room, but that was a good tradeoff to me. We just charged everything to our credit card as we purchased things (way less than $400 a day) and it was fine.

This is a 5 star hotel, accommodations, pools, beach, and staff! Location is central to both San Jose and Los CABOS which is great for choices. Breakfast is fantastic, the staff and the food/choices are excellent! Anything we could imagine was available. Dog friendly hotel only good for those not allergic, a problem for us. Down pillows also good for most. Concierges are excellent. Great recommendations, bell staff and housekeeping great. This is a pricey hotel a la carte for taxis and restaurants as nothing is included in rooms if you book online, even with the Altamar suite. We had a few issues which were resolved, and pricing for incidentals (eg. sunscreen 30-40 US), otherwise a 5 star! We did watch whales daily from our balcony, and the pools, and a turtle release 1 night made the 12 night trip special!
