I am writing this as we are leaving tomorrow and feel compelled to say that no one should be concerned with the current state in Chile if you are planning to come here!! We flew to Santiago and then on to Balmaceda and drove down to this paradise on the Lago Negro. We have spent an incredible visit here without ANY problems and a first class experience The staff here is wonderful, eager to please and extremely accomodating. The trip from the airport is on a rough, dirt road - the ONLY road to anywhere in Patagonia and you don’t want to make this drive at night. But this serene and first class lodge is worth the trip. Comfortable beds, amazing dining on the lake by a trained gourmet chef - individual attention to ANY requests. The staff is just wonderful. If you want to be greeted by 2 happy, loving, St Bernards who treat you like family, this is your place! We can’t recommend this lodge highly enough The struggles of the Chilean people are REAL but here you feel that Nature makes it all go away - even if temporarily. Just go...you will not regret it. Very well located to activities and nearby. Stay, relax and enjoy the dogs and take a custom prepared wood burning hot tub under the sunset.

Great location, but a weirdly low-value all-inclusive set-up. Lots of incremental charges to an already-high base rate that makes you question what you're really paying for. Our room in the main building was significantly less nice than the other cabins and we barely had hot water; minibar was empty, "game room" building had pool and maybe 5 board games. We would have stayed elsewhere had there been availability. Stayed for one night and were glad to leave.
Pros: wood-fired stove in the room, very comfortable bed, great location.

But.... we ordered a coffee and hot chocolate. The young man asked if we'd like something else, a crepe perhaps?
The drinks and crepe arrived. Fortunately my hot chocolate was HOT, delicious! But the coffee was tepid and the crepe was stone cold, straight out of the fridge. In true British fashion we did not complain but just asked for the bill. 8000 pesos! We tried to pay in cash with a 10,000 peso note but neither the young man nor the 2 workers in the kitchen had any change! Our patience started to wear thin! Ok, I asked if we could pay by credit card. No problem, said the young man! All we need to do is to go outside, back to the road, up the road and to The neighbouring hotel where they had the credit card machine!!! At this we finally lost patience. We told the young man what we thought and gave him the 10,000 peso note and left!
What a rip-off!

January 11 th 2016, high season. We are expecting the 5 star luxury paradise advertised. Friendly welcome, room with beautiful view with large windows. So far so good, BUT: for 3 days we are the only guests.
Although there is no restaurant nearby on the carretera austral, they include only breakfast in the room rate. So on arrival in the early afternoon we were asked to choose the menu for dinner at 35US$ (2 choices). The dining room is dark and unfriendly and the food by far not worth the price ( Bouillon, salmon with corn mash, postre: fruit skewer). We booked a massage which they warmly recommended as being outstanding: the "therapist" was waring a bellyfree TShirt, normal trousers and socks and when I entered she pointed to the bed and ordered "arriba!" When I felt unconfortable and asked for a cushon or towel, she took my bathgown and sqeezed it under my head! The place was not clean, the massage unprofessional and the price was 50US$. The following evening we met this women when she lead the horses to the water wearing still the same clothes and we wondered for how many days yet. Horse dung was oll over the lawn of the terrace and was not collected during our stay. On the roof of the terrace and on the terrace were two matrasses that were blown from the daybeds of the first floor suite. After 2 days they were still there, only that the 4 dogs on the property had torn the one on the terrace apart - but nobody felt a need to clean up the place until we asked them to. When we ordered a pisco sour, they said sorry we don't have, there are no lemons. The coffee shop, the 2 nd restaurant and the bar were closed during our stay. They have many excursions to offer, but no prices on the information sheet. When we asked we were taken aback about the prices: 1/2 day to the marble caves with a guide 135 US$ p.P. ( we went on our own for 12 US$ p.P.) Full day 220 US$ p.P. When we asked why so expensive, the answer was because the picknick was included. The beakfast: on the 1st day consisted of a buffet, on the 2nd day, there was no buffet, but 2 tiny cups with cereals on our table, bread not toasted, no marmelade, no fruits, but we got 2 scrambled eggs, wow! These are only a few examples. No doubt, it is a wonderful place with beautiful scenery, but it is absolutely not maintained and not clean, the staff is not trained at all. Many things advertised in internet or brochures are simply not there. Now it is 3p.m and we will go to the reception to ask them to clean the room and to bring cushion covers that are not 10 cm too short and don't cover. The hotel has been booked and prepaid by protours otherwise we would have left the first morning. So this by far is NOT the "first luxury hacienda in Patagonia with exquisite cuisine and personalized quality service with dedicated care given to the guests" as written in the brochure......

We were looking for a nice place to stay in the Aysén region and we came across various places near by General Carrera lake. This one seemed isolated, not close to any village and in the end, although it was all that, it was pretty amazing we ended up there. We came all the way from Balmaceda after renting out car (it took 4,5 hours to get there with a stop in Rio Tranquilo). The place is a huge property facing Lago Negro. The rooms all face to the lake, the only down side is that if you choose one of the last cottages you may be a bit wet/cold walking in and out of it (which is expected anywhere in this location in Patagonia). The rooms are huge, they have a fireplace and they are set in bungalows (4 rooms per bungalow). By the time we were there (1st week of Jan/14) we only had 1 couple neighboring so I cannot say if it gets noisy if all the rooms are taken. The hotel has a nice spa, sauna and jacuzzis facing the lake (we went to it every day) and even managed to jump in the freezing lake after it. The restaurant is good and we had dinner there twice. The best Cordero Patagónico I ever ate in my life. I must confess till that day i didn't even liked cordero. It was prepared in their small hut that is set to receive a small group of people. I highly recommend it! Views are amazing and we choose to stay there and took daily trips to Rio Tranquilo, Puerto Guadal and Puerto Bertrand. We booked only our rafting trip with them and it's not much more expensive than booking it for yourself. They had a nice guide and we also took a stroll with him. The only really bad thing that happened to us was our shower that did not function properly, we were either being 'burnt' or getting 'frozen'. They offered us to change the chalet but we only took the keys for the other bungalow downstair ours (and the shower also did not work 100%). Am not sure if they have fixed it but it really needs a fix. It's way too cold to have shower without hot water. People working there were generous, but sometimes took a bit of time to answer our small requests (or solve the water problem). The managing couple was new to the place (a chilean/kiwi) and were really kind. I believe if they are back to this season, the hotel will be a nice (although expensive) choice. We highly recommend it!

A gem in the middle of the vacancy of high level hotels in the Caratera austral in southern chile. We visit just before the high seanos starts, mid October, and happened to be the only guests in the hotel for 2 nights. The facility is beautiful, room was very nice, the staff was extremenly helpful and kind. Food was delicious, in front of a fireside, with hugh windows overlooking the lake - a perfect place for relaxing after the long (and magnificent) drive along the caratera.

In "Lago Negro" and exactly in "El Maiten" crossing sector: intersection of the Carretea Austral-route 7 and the route to Chile Chico-south border of the general Carrera Lake. It is also very close to the area where the nice and pure waters of the General Carrera Lake (2nd larger in South America) through Bertrand Lake start their travel to the Pacific Ocean by the Baker river (mighty river in Chile). From this point you can achieve by the day incredible places as: Chile Chico, Cochrane, Caleta Tortel, Puerto Tranquilo, Bahia Exploradores-new road, Glaciar Exploradores, etc.. Of course the Hotel is excellent, with big and veeery comfortable rooms, with a perfect view over the lake, with nice walking paths through the beach of the Negro Lake, with Sauna, Jacuzzi, barbacue, games area, and excellent and big breakfast and Dinner. Also the staff is very friendly and always open to help you. The price absolutely worth it !

We booked the Hacienda tres Lagos as a package of 5 days including several excursions and we suggest that´s the best option. To drive there by your own surely is an adventure, but you may try it. It´s a surprise to find the small group of chalets in the middle of nowhere, mountains, lakes and forest all around.
The staff is friendly, trying to fulfill your wishes, especially the guides we want to point out.
We loved our room with a large balcony and a beautiful view. And we were happy with our wood burning stove during some cold february nights!

Comfortable 4 bedroom chalets in wood and glass with views of Lago Negro are this hotel's main attraction. The chalets are embedded in the lake's natural surroundings, with pleasant lakeside walks. The young guides, fishing expert, kitchen staff, chef, and cleaners do their best to provide good service.
The hotel's natural assets are, however, vitiated by poor management.
The current manager appears to lack experience in the hotel business and creates a feeling of stress among the staff which is communicated to guests. Initial politeness quickly turns to unpleasantness when problems arise.
Many points of detail are neglected: advertized "wellness" services (included in the price we paid) do not exist (the Jacuzzis are broken, no masseurs are available, and, indeed, the sauna on the lake beach is surrounded by horse droppings); the charming-looking cafe was closed during our visit; the "international" style food served without a menu and without choice was mediocre (better Chilean dishes can be prepared if you specifically ask in advance); the house wine is sour, thin and more expensive than better Chilean wines available in restaurants in the US and Europe; other wines are preposterously over-priced; the young waiter is nervous and inexperienced; transfers provided by the hotel are not always on time; the guides show good will and are friendly but lack detailed knowledge of flora, fauna, history, geology etc.; the hotel's boat is uncomfortable and too low-powered to cope with frequently choppy conditions on the lakes.
The hotel owner, who apparently has planted many trees on his property elsewhere, needs to do so on the edge of the hotel grounds to insulate them from the heavily traveled and noisy highway which runs right next to the hotel.
None of this might matter much if the hotel, which offers at best three star service, were priced accordingly. However the inclusive price we were charged by a reputable agency specializing in Patagonia, based in Santiago and Coyhaique, was extremely high, equivalent to the price of some of the best hotels in Patagonia and, indeed, in Chile. To pay super five star prices for two or three star service, food and wine is annoying to say the least and can spoil what might otherwise be a pleasant stay in a beautiful region.

We arrived to be greeted by 3 members of staff, when we arrived at our room (deluxe) they already had the wood burner going and then we received welcome drinks and snacks. The bedroom was fantastic, 2 glassed walls, leading out to the balcony on one side with a fantastic view of Lago Negro. The most amazing bed! But the highlight was an outdoor jacuzzi away from the buildings and by the lake, where as a couple you can relax for hours with a bottle of champagne! There were also 2 saunas directly by the lake - amazing!
The restaurant was lovely. We did find having to give a definite time for our dinner every night a bit restrictive, but the food and the wine was delicious. As it was so quiet, the second restaurant and bar wasn´t open and we were politely asked to leave the restaurant when it got quite late, but since there were so many guests we didn´t really mind.
The hotel helps to organise all sorts of trips, such as glaciers, marble caves, horseriding (they have there own horses which wander freely around the grounds), kayaking.. we didn´t actually take them up on any of these as we just wandering to relax and do nothing , and this is really the perfect place to do this.
I would definitely recommend. And if I was ever to go to this area of Chile again, I would definitely stay there again!

This hotel is in one of the most beatiful places i ever been.
I travel a lot, and this place its absolutely wonderful.
But the hotel, was very dissapointed... the service is definitely bad, not the all people speak english, the guides arent that friendly and they seems to need moore experience for that kind of jobs, we felt a bit lost sometimes (they didnt explains us about history, birds or the special things about there) even if we tried to enjoy as much as we could the beatifuls views and place!
The food was another bad ponit... it was poor, and the service on the restaurant wasnt at all what we expected, no one explain us about the food or the wines, and for the price we paid, we tought gonna be quite different.
The best thing, is the place, the saunas and the view, the rest i think should improve a lot.

It was a very beautiful place. The view from the whirlpool and veranda was fantastic. It really is a superb place. However there are a few downers.
The diner was very poor. It was cold, no taste and overcooked. The did not had any proper wine. And there was nobody there who had any ideas over wine. (the cook was also the handyman). At night (both nights) the crew went for a drink. And drunk a lot. They made a lot of noise and where screaming al night (until 4:00) It really disturbed my sleep. And I am heavy sleeper. The two night and days there was no hot water.. and that was very harsh to wake up.
The whirlpool was very dirty, there were al black and brown things (no leaves) floating in the water and the temp was not really warm.
Nevertheless, to end : the staff (beside the noise) was very friendly, but they didn’t understood & spook English. For the amount of money I have been for better places. Much better! I only recommend this place for the view and surroundings not for the hotel itself.

One of the nicest places we've ever been: After long days with our pick-up and tent through patagonia and on the rough Carretera Austral, we finally got to this wonderful hacienda. It was in 2007 and we were among the first visitors, this resort had just opened. We got a good walk-in-rate and had a great time there: The service was perfect, including a roomboy who heated the chimney, including a huge breakfast brought to our room in the morning. The views from the veranda were awesome - the lakes and the Andes...wonderful. Great sauna "with a view" and perfect food and wine - everything was just paradise!
