Where to begin! This is a hotel which oozes style and service. You won’t regret investing in your stay here. Grounds - lots of spaces to sit and enjoy the views. Including the terrace and jetty. All maintained daily. Facilities- pool area is well maintained and being off peak it was an enjoyable experience to have the pool to myself! The seaside terrace offers further pleasant spaces to relax. The steps into the sea were a little wobbly and algae covered- to be expected in the sea! Room - spacious and well decorated, bathroom very nice. Housekeeping are very attentive, visiting several times a day. Chocolate at turn down is a special touch. Food - breakfast offers a range of options, including fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries, chef station for freshly cooked eggs! We also dined at the Al la Carte restaurant one evening, superb food and well on its journey to a Michelin star! We were highly impressed by the food, the quality ingredients, and service. Location - perfect! A short walk to the centre of Sorrento but set aside to enable a relaxing atmosphere. Some of the other 5 star hotels are a longer distance and would require taxis so this is a really well placed location base. Service- we attended Sorrento to be married at The Cloister, the hotel made sure every detail was special. A hand written card to welcome our arrival was a sign of the experience ahead. Staff were friendly and helpful. Clearly highly trained in hospitality services, a level of traditional service you don’t often see. We didn’t mention that it was my birthday but the hotel noticed on my passport, a further hand written card with small pastry was delivered to the room on a silver platter. Overall we felt this hotel was on another level! Highly recommended.

Just returned from our second stay at the Grand Hotel Royal and again it did not disappoint. Staff is wonderful , hotel is clean and comfortable throughout. We a few days of wet weather on this trip but the hotel has some lovely public areas which we were able to enjoy.

Sorrento, and the Grand Hotel Royal, was the last stop on our vacation in Italy. The view from our balcony was beautiful, and it was so nice to be able to swim in the sea right at our hotel. We had a lovely dinner there one evening, serenaded by a couple that the hotel brings in regularly. Everyone working at the hotel was very helpful and one of the waitresses went above and beyond by not only recommending a few restaurants, but also making reservations for us. We were very comfortable here and we hope to get back to the Grand Hotel Royal someday.

The Grand Royal is an excellent hotel and has a wonderful situation directly overlooking Sorrento Harbour, the sea, the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius beyond. We have stayed around six times in the hotel over the past 25 years or so but never so late as October. My wife and I really enjoy swimming daily but the pool was very cold and unheated and we were unable to enjoy our holiday as in previous years. We always remembered the lovely pool being quite warm and assumed it was heated but definitely not this time. We visited a nearby hotel for lunch and their pool was heated to 28 degrees whereas the Royal was only around 20/21 degrees and far too cold to enjoy. The pool was hardly used during our time there and I spoke to other poolside guests who were equally disappointed. Like me, they said they had complained as indeed I did several times but nothing was done. When you are paying around 900 euros a night is it asking too much to expect to be able to enjoy a swim in the pool? Will we return, well hopefully, but certainly not later in the year unless they review their pool heating policy.

Great hotel and well located. Read some reviews which suggested the hotel was trading on past glory but we found it well appointed and very comfortable, clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful. Short walk to main square, close to station (convenient for Pompei) and Port for boats to Capri and Amalfi Coast. Relaxing place to stay mixed with days sightseeing. Good breakfast with plenty of choice, buffet style, with eggs cooked to order

The location is great—close enough to walk to the city center but separated enough to be quiet at night. Felt safe walking home at night after dinner. The amenities are very nice. The “beach” is actually a dock that you can access via an elevator. There are steps down into the water for swimming and you can order drinks while you lounge. Domenico is the main attendant and he is wonderful—very attentive and accommodating! Up on the cliffside the pool is also nice. Interestingly, the “hot tub” is not actually hot, it is the same temperature as the pool but there are jacuzzi jets. This is likely a common practice in Italy as the same was true in the other hotels we stayed in. Lorenza at the pool is amazing—she gave us a bunch of great restaurant recommendations for good food reasonably priced, and she even called ahead and told them it was our anniversary, ensuring that we were taken care of. The gym is serviceable, one treadmill, a couple other machines and some free weights. We thought the restaurant was good for lunch (you can’t beat the view) but for dinner you can find a better meal in town if you do some looking. The breakfast spread is quite good with fresh fruit, typical European breakfast items and an omelette bar. The staff can make or break a hotel experience and both Domenico and Lorenza made our experience so great. In addition to providing wonderful service, they were great to talk to and welcomed us to Italy with warmth and kindness! We look forward to returning and seeing them again.

We stayed for 5 nights at the Grand Royal. The service, ambience and accommodations made this the most memorable trip of our lives. The landscaping is breathtaking. The guest rooms were clean and comfortable. Our sea view terrace was gorgeous. Enjoying the private beach was our favorite day time activity and the tunnel walk down to the beach is magical. The location was perfect - close walk to local restaurants and the ferry. We would like to extend special thanks to Mauro, Paolo, and Florenza for their outstanding hospitality. The gentleman at the beach club was also amazing (I didn’t catch his name). We had family staying at a different hotel nearby paying the same rate as us and their experience was far from as nice as ours. We will all stay at the Grand Royal next time. Thank you all! ❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely exquisite hotel with a beautiful view over the Bay of Naples. Perfect location, less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento and with a cute, Italian style lemon grove and cafe directly across the road. Rooms were stunning. Decent size and elegantly decorated, with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco on arrival. We had a large balcony with a sea view which made for perfect evenings watching the sun set over the bay. Luxurious lobby and terrace with comfortable seating and sun beds and a high end restaurant. We found the staff to be particularly helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble and their enthusiasm for having happy, well looked after guests really shone. This was without exception. Top quality hotel and one which I would highly recommend.

Dream hotel for honeymoon!
10/10 hotel. We came here as part of our honeymoon touring Italy and our fav hotel by far. Stunning views, spotless hotel, super friendly staff! I can’t wait to come back! I am very well travelled and I have 0 complainants about this hotel it is perfect!
Outstanding hotel, great views, well appointed rooms, excellent food. Close to Sorrento village, close to marina, lots of excellent restaurants nearby. The hotel even gives you breakfast bags if you checkout before 8am, never seen that anywhere.

Exquisitely decorated, the hotel and its lush gardens provided an oasis of calm The food was delicious and the service impeccable. We enjoyed every public space the hotel offered, from cocktails in the bar to lunch on the terrace overlooking Vesuvius. We were particularly grateful for hotel advice and help re tours of Herculaneum and Villa Oplontis.

So we checked in for just a night while staying locally just a treat to see if it’s worth the price tag. Ok drinks are a little over the top but all hotels are overcharging! Lunch was amazing views, service quality were all there obviously helped by incredible weather. Room and main building again typical Italian style but the evening meal whether it was a misunderstanding during booking but we explained we had 90 min for dinner due to us leaving for the three tenner show. Main turned up 70 min after we sat down didn’t have enough time to finish and missed sweet which we paid 1/2 board at start shame but there you go. Explained next morning to front desk who where not going to budge but eventually a satisfactory end was reached. Finally if we are back we would like to return as everything was stunning .
