When the hotel we were staying in suffered a major health & safety issue, we were forced to find a replacement hotel at very short notice, i.e. in a couple of hours, for the last night of our stay in Sorrento. We found this hotel online and based in no small part on its Tripadvisor reviews, we booked it for that night...and crossed our fingers. As it turned out we need not have worried because it was sensational. We arrived at lunchtime and the hotel was able to provide us with an early check-in, which was appreciated as we had packed our suitcases in the previous hotel with the utmost celerity before literally fleeing. Being both irritated and stressed, the feelings of tranquility and amazement we felt as we walked into our suite were almost overwhelming. We had booked a deluxe junior suite because it looked fantastic from the photos online and it was even better in reality. A generous-sized room, opulently furnished and elegantly decorated. The layout of the suite drew the eye toward the patio doors and the balcony with a view that even by Sorrento's standards is impressive. If you want a sea view in Sorrento you have to pay a big premium for it and often it will be from a room that is several blocks back from the cliffs - technically you may be able to see the sea (to quote Basil Fawlty "it's over there, between the land and the sky") but that may not be what you consider to be a sea view. As the Ambasciatori is built on top of a cliff, the sea view is right there below you, ahead of you and to the sides. And of course, right there in front of you is the jaw-dropping backdrop of Vesuvius. The balcony was compact but certainly large enough for the two of us to sit out on it and take in the panorama, especially late in the evening when the lights of Naples make the volcano seem even more magical. It was my partner's birthday - a fact that compounded the disappointment of the previous hotel's failing and the frustration of having to decamp at short notice - and so you can imagine the joy she felt when on the table when we first walked into the room was a bottle of champagne and a birthday card. Neither of us had said anything when we arrived and when I asked how they knew, the colleague on the front desk said they noticed the date when they were copying our passports and while we were concluding check-in, they sent someone up to the room with the birthday gift. Exceptional service and the kind of attention to detail that makes a stay extra special. In the available time we had, which in reality was the rest of the afternoon as we were out for dinner in the town centre, we made the most of the facilities. There is an outside pool and poolside loungers, served by a little bar. The pool is too small to swim in but is perfect for cooling off and just relaxing in, especially when the attentive barman keeps bringing you over bellinis, which as they are in plastic flutes, you can sit in the pool and drink or - even better - activate the jacuzzi feature in the side pool and drink bubbles while reclining in bubbles. We took a break for lunch in the outside terrace, which I think was eleven steps from the poolside lounger. The view from the terrace, itself nestled on the cliff top and underneath the trees, in between the shrubs and plants, was beautiful, creating a blissful atmosphere of enjoyment. The bruschettas and pizza we had for lunch were delicious, the crocche bordering on the sublime, all bursting with flavour from fresh ingredients, prepared and served with what is best described as panache. We then went back to our loungers and spent the rest of the afternoon soaking up the sun, the location and the whole ambience of the place. When we got back from dinner in town that night, we sat out on the balcony before retiring to one of the, if not the, most comfortable beds I have ever slept it. The bathroom was well-appointed and the walk-in shower provided plenty of control over the flow and temperature of the water. Breakfast was a good choice of hot and cold items, with a wonderful selection of local cakes and pastries. The large windows of the dining room provided yet another slice of sea view, as well as making the dining room feel airy and tranquil. Tranquil is a word that kept cropping up during our stay and if it is one of the hotel's objectives as part of its guest proposition, it is succeeding in this respect. On the downside? Well the lift has a mind of its own and it look a while to work it out, although 'let's take the stairs' was our conclusion. This is because the lift goes up and down (I know that's what they are supposed to do) except 'Down' as marked on the lift is down from the hotel to its beach/jetty at the bottom of the cliff and 'Up' as marked on the lift is up or down within the floors of the hotel. In other words, you may want to go down a couple of floors but this is up if you aren't going all the way down to the sea level. It's not a major issue and you will probably find yourself laughing - as above, taking the stairs is quicker and does provide you with the chance to look at some of the lovely paintings and artwork that lines the staircase. This was pretty much the only downside. For a hotel that we never intended to stay at, we didn't want to leave after our one night's stay. Everything about the hotel was a delight. It wasn't cheap - the deluxe junior suite cost approx. £1,200 for the night - but if you're looking at luxury in Sorrento, especially along the promenade of Via Correale and Via Aniello Califano, this is what a 'proper' sea view costs. Was it worth it? Well, we've just booked to go back to Grand Hotel Ambasciatori later this year, this time as our first choice and for four nights. So the answer has to be Yes. Overall, a delightful hotel that made a birthday very special and a stay very memorable.

There is a swimming pool as well as a private dock, but we didn’t use either of these, given it was so late in the year when we stayed there. The garden is huge. We spent several hours there just admiring the scenery. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly and professional. I would love to stay here again someday!

This hotel made a perfect base for our trip to the Amalfi coast. Just a 15 minutes walk from the center of the city. We had an ocean view room with a balcony and the views were gorgeous! The room was spacious and comfortable. The pool area was beautiful with sweeping view of the ocean and Mt. Vesuvius. The breakfast spread was good too which was included with our stay. A big shout out to Max at the front desk for answering all my questions patiently and making reservations for us at some restaurants. Would also like to mention Salvatore, Sabrina at the front desk and Pietro from the pool area, your hospitality made our stay memorable.

Absolutely stunning hotel. The grounds are spectacular and taking the elevator down to the "beach" was a daily afternoon occurrence. It's a beautiful walk from town, especially at night when you can see the coastline. The staff was very attentive and we appreciated all the details. The one thing I wish I had complained about was the location of our room. We were in 405 which is directly under the restaurant/event space. Much needed late afternoon naps on the weekend was not possible due to weddings going on above us. Music and high heal dancing above our heads was not conducive to sleeping. Every moring I could hear chairs scraping the floor during breakfast. I should speak for myself....my husband can sleep through anything!

PERFECTION!!! Old world class and the highest level of service found anywhere. The hotel matre d Giovanni oversees every detail of this gorgeously appointed establishment. The best food in all of Italy hands down! We have been to Monte Carlo, Rome, Florence, Lake Como’s Casta Diva Resort and Giovanni my husband and I both said the food, the gorgeous decor, fine appointments, the cleanliness, the architecture, the finest linens, the lush gardens and pool, the friendly staff, and the beautiful lomging dock set perfectly on the Gulf of Napoli with a fun bartender who greets everyone warmly! Giovani the breakfast buffet display of highest quality italian pastries, chef preparing omelets and pancakes to the array of authentic delicious local farm fresh eggs, cheeses, tomatoes… oh so good!! Then to have the grandest experience table side salted sea bass to crepe suzette. You and your incredible staff exceed all expectations! We booked a 7 day stay in Sorrento, Italy in September with bookend stops in Florence and Rome. I never dreamed that all of our hotel stays would be so equally spectacular but the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori stood on its own pedestal. The Grand turned out to be the absolute perfect blend of “Amalfi Coast” vibes . Sorrento is conveniently located close to Naples, Positano, Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento boasts a fabulous array of wonderful sights shops and incredible restaurants within walking distance of this property. This hotel has an elegantly appointed pristine lobby which took our breath away when we first checked in. Each time we returned from our excursions, we were in awe of its unique and impressive design. Sorrento is so beautiful and we were so in love with each and every aspect of this leg of our journey thru Italy.. Check-in at the hotel was flawless. We were greeted by the front desk staff warmly and the gentleman swiftly processed all of our documents then escorted us up to our room personally. I booked an ocean front room and the views were unbelievably beautiful. The suite was everything I had dreamed of for this region of Italy. Brightly decorated and apparently newly renovated in chic colours with patterned tile throughout. The bed and linens were super comfy and the washroom had a warming towel rack which was a lovely touch. When we were getting settled into the room I called the front desk to get additional hangers brought to the room. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there was someone knocking at our door within two minutes of my request. This happened on a few other occasions as well if we ran out of bathroom supplies such as tissues or needed an ironing board and iron. I have never experienced service excellence like this at any other 5 star hotel or resort. The breakfast buffet was one of the highlights of our stay. It was beautifully laid out in a white on white restaurant with everything you could ask for. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! We also had a lovely lunch one day pool and waterside and the food and service was amazing. I would call it white glove service at its best. I literally felt like a princess all week. The hotel has a beautiful pool area as well as a private beach club. We took advantage of both areas and loved each one. There is live music in the lobby by the bar in the evenings. We found ourselves walking by one evening, heard a favourite song, then joined another couple who started dancing. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking at a perfect stay in Sorrento. The Grand lives up to its name. It’s certainly GRAND. Thank you to everyone at this hotel for the memorable week! Would love to return one day! 10/10

This hotel definitely is a 5 star. From the moment you walk in… every step is a pleasure. Grand Hotel Villa is well managed hotel . Every single staff member we met was exemplary. From the front desk, room cleaning, outdoor bar, dinner restaurant. Incredible breakfast buffet…. I’ve been to some fantastic hotels in my life and truly this one stands out. The guitar and mandolin couple that serenades in the evening creates a magical atmosphere. The hotel has an old world historic charm with beautiful gardens and breathtaking views There are so many nooks and rooms where you can just chill. Location is excellent. Close enough to town but yet far enough to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this amazing hotel. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed.

Very attentive, friendly and willing to go out of his way to make reservations, call cabs, etc. The hotel is well located and close to the center of town. We enjoyed drinks and dinner on the outside terrace-excellent food and service!

The Grand Hotel Ambasciatori hotel was heaven. Our room was stunning, with colors of Colbalt blue, white and turquoise with an amazing balcony that looks out to the beautiful views. The staff was professional, friendly and very accommodating. They make you feel like family. Breakfast was excellent. Large selection to choose from. Dinner was amazing with entertainment as well! The hotel private sunbathing area down near the ocean was breathtaking! You walk right into the crystal blue ocean. I loved the fact this hotel was away from the tourist area but walking distance to the main square with restaurants and so much shopping. We went on vacation with 2 couples. We are planning to return to this hotel next year. We had the most amazing time. The Grand Hotel Ambasciatori is an 11 out of 10. A few cons: -Hotel was bit pricey -Need nicer floats to use in the ocean -Need a service button down on the sunbathing deck to have the server come to you when needed.

Top notch breakfast and quality evening meals. Service and cleanliness and everything about the hotel 5 star. Easy walking to Sorrento centre and away from the Sorrento centre chaos. Fabulous

We loved this hotel and location a lot. Our first trip to Sorrento and my partner proposed on a private boat trip in Amalfi so the hotel holds a special place in our hearts. It’s peaceful, the staff are wonderful, food and drinks are very good. Views over the water to Naples are beautiful especially during sunset. The room was gorgeous. The beach bar and loungers by the sea were so peaceful with more lovely views over to the port. Big comfy loungers, massive pool, great service there. We would love to come back next year. We booked a pick up from Naples airport to the hotel via reception for easiness and it was great and quicker than expected. Our room was ready early. The only tiny tiny thing I’d say is a welcome drink would be fab especially for a 5 star hotel, and water topped up more regularly in the rooms but I won’t knock down a star for my thoughts ❤️

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. The property is so beautiful, including the views from the lounge seats overlooking the sea, the pool, the terrace and the "beach"/ deck down on the water. The beach area was a huge plus and we spent a lot of time there - service was great and swimming in the bay was so nice. They even have an outside shower down on the deck to rinse off the salt water. We had the deluxe sea view room and it was perfect - a nice size and great views. They did turndown service every night and always responded quickly to requests. Also, of the 3 hotels we stayed at in the Amalfi/Sorrento area, this is the only one whose air conditioning worked well enough to cool it to a reasonable sleeping temperature. The other hotels struggled to get below 23 degrees C, but our room was at 20 degrees each night as requested. It is a nice quiet walk to town of about 13 minutes. I would definitely stay here again if we come back to Sorrento.

This hotel is impeccably presented, with a staff that is 100% professional. The location is extremely convenient, just a 10-15 minute walk to the town square and even closer to a popular pickup point for day trips and excursions. Our recently renovated room was spacious and quiet, boasting great furnishings and decor, as well as a very comfortable bed and pillows. The beach club was perfect, offering a great place to relax. One of the highlights was spending time on the terrace, whether for an aperitivo or a full dinner in the restaurant. The views over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius, especially during the spectacular sunsets, were breathtaking. Breakfast was first-class, with the same great view and attentive staff as on the terrace. The hotel should be very proud of their staff. From housekeeping and waiters to the beach club personnel and front desk staff, everyone we met was friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Special mention goes to the front desk team, who provided excellent advice on activities and local restaurants, assisted with booking ferry tickets, and ensured a package we had left in our room at checkout was efficiently sent back to Australia. I highly recommend this hotel.
