Reviews of Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto
Very pretty resort. Staff was exceptional and went out of their way to make sure that our stay was comfortable. The accommodations themselves were clean and modern. We cannot speak highly enough about our experience at the Four Seasons Hotel in Kyoto.
Over all Kyoto is amaysing and stating at the Four Season made this experience even better.

We had a great experience staying at The Four Seasons Kyoto. Of course, booking a Four Season hotel, you already expect the highest level of service and installation qualities, but what we experienced was much beyond than that. The hotel had a problem with the pool, and they did everything on their power to minimize the inconvenience, something that we do not see quite often. More than that, all the staff provide had a great service booking the restaurants and giving all the detailed directions for day's trip (Nara, Hiroshima for ex). Deserve to be mentioned, Mr. Water and his team for the great work. The facilities are also great, restaurants, sauna, SPA, pool. Over all Kyoto is amaysing and stating at the Four Season made this experience even better.

Stayed for 5 Nights. The Hotel is bigger than I envisioned particularly the long walk to the room. A bit disappointed my Amex upgrade was not available but our room was still very nice and had enough storage to unpack and hide the luggage to feel a bit like home. That feeling was reinforced every time we stepped from a Taxi after a day in Kyoto. The staff were always obliging but room make up and turn down was quite slow. I put this down to a high occupancy. The outstanding experience was the Japanese Restaurant where we dined twice. Taking only 8 it was a little difficult to book but for our second visit we nabbed a cancellation with the hotel apologising that the menu would repeat our last visit. Actually the Chef varied it on the night. Bravo. The food was as amazing as the experience and service. Don’t ask the price just go there if you are able to. Staying longer meant our faces were familiar and at breakfast we were welcomed back. A nice touch, thank you staff. If I have a criticism it was the long wait for pre dinner drinks in the bar. Often felt ignored after ordering. One bartender knew and remembered my wife’s order. One of took so long we were just about to give up. Don’t expect to walk out of the hotel into a Kyoto but after a day site seeing It was nice to come home

Overall a good stay but a few fixable misses to make the hotel live up to the brand promise and expectations. It was peak season but breakfast was slow and hard to get service for multiple days. I had to find someone to take my order a few times. I’ve had much better breakfast in other comparably priced hotels in Japan. That said, the Japanese breakfast is exquisite. Cocktail lounge was okay but not as good as other five star hotels in Japan. Geiko/geisha experience was amazing and best part of stay. This is probably the reason to stay here above the other top tier hotels in Kyoto if you really want to see up close what that is like. The concierge was very helpful arranging all of these experiences and restaurant bookings.

Terrible experience. Shower drain was plugged
I was so disappointed with this hotel. It’s beautiful, the restaurant and common areas are fantastic, however my shower drain was clogged, no water was draining whatsoever and I showered with dirt water to my ankles. They simply said “I am sorry”. Not a single glass of wine or anything....

My favorite hotel from my trip to Japan. Beautiful and new while also feeling like it honors tradition with its amazing garden. Service was excellent from the front desk to the restaurants to the concierge. Food was good and the drinks were very good. The only downside is the location requires a cab to pretty much anything you want to see or do.

The other day in September, I had to go to the French consulate in Kyoto. I am French myself, and we have never visited the Four Seasons Kyoto, while based in Osaka, we patronize a lot the local Four Seasons, where dining excels, we love the quality restaurant Est in Tokyo as well, and so on traveling from Osaka just for a treat, We, the couple, decided that day to do a visit around 3 pm, knowing the general manager is French Mrs. Fa. Gu..... we sought to have a little bite a treat in the lower lobby, having a glass of red wine glass served the Cht Valandraud and cheese platers, a noisy saxophone disturbed us while enjoying the lovely garden view in front of us, and after a while, I asked the sommelier to share my name card to the management office to meet someone, the sommelier confirmed me twice he did. I have been in the hotel world my whole life, knowing most of the key managers around Japan are all close to customers I was not going to complain, but I was planning to share our experience with the upper management of our journey at Kyotto Four Seasons we have been thrilled to have such great service by this Thai colleague who was cheerful, kind, attentive, and the cheese platers for a Japanese standard was amazing with quality bread and butter with some ash on it another new item we did enjoy. We did enjoy the traditional dance in the lobby, too. I have been living in Japan for a while and enjoyed myself, but it is not this noisy, it is far too noisy. The saxophone was not in the right place in the main lobby, and the sound was not balanced at all. Past six pm, nobody came to visit us, no duty manager or guest relations nor the hotel or food beverage manager, leadership has been busy with meetings probably. Well, of course, we could not congratulate the team for such lovely momentum, but I highly recommend the lower lobby and the garden any time. Communication and customer relations in such a luxury environment are basic and common. Don't expect any contact after 6 pm in this part of Kyoto, next time, we will go to the Amman hotel; it is just sad.

The Four Seasons is a 5 star property in one of the most visited tourist cities in the world. The hotel delivers - the property and service are both excellent. The buffet breakfast is varied and very high quality. The hotel has a large pool and spa area with a hot bath, sauna and cold plunge, although it isn't set up like a traditional onsen. There is a nice bar, and the dinner we had at the restaurant was delicious. The staff all speak excellent English.

An american luxury experience that feels too close to home

The FS Kyoto feels a bit like a dish you’ve had a million times before everywhere else in the world, one that is exquisitely well cooked with the best of ingredients of course, but where you cannot help but wonder ‘Is this really what I wanted to eat, now that I’m at the other end of the world in the land of the rising sun?’ At the onset the imposing, distinctively European in style, building screams ‘FS!’. Your second clue will be the immediately noticeable groups of loud americans, which we had so far managed to avoid throughout Japan. Turns out they were all congregating at the four seasons! What a western experience in the far East. While the service is excellent; the food delicious; and the rooms the most spacious we experienced during our two weeks in Japan, the whole experience felt distinctly not Japanese, and therefore of little interest. Next time I come to Kyoto, city of a thousand temples, I will for sure seek to stay closer to the old town.

We spent, at Four Seasons Kyoto, some days we’ll never forget. If you don’t have the patience to read my review, look no further, just consider Four Seasons the best choice you can make if you plan to visit Kyoto. The hotel is a tasteful blend of Japanese style and western understated luxury, rooms are beautifully appointed and also functional, with a touch of pastel colors which is a lovely intermission from the Japanese all-neutral tones, highest quality of sleep and totally noiseless. Needless to say that the property is immaculately clean and perfectly maintained. Since before our arrival, we were treated like royalties and our needs were anticipated in every way possible. That’s what you should expect from a Four Seasons and that’s the reason why we are loyal guests of this brand from more than 15 years; nevertheless, here in Kyoto, our expectations were truly exceeded. We arrived to Kyoto by train from Tokyo and the Four Seasons Kyoto Concierge Team was already in touch with our hotel in Tokyo to smooth things out for us, then we were greeted at the Kyoto station by the lovely Ms. Morgane Lehman - Guest Experience Ambassador - who also smoothly handled check in directly in the room and helped us with the planning of some sightseeing and interesting shopping: we enormously appreciated her delightful manners and her smart suggestions. Thank you Morgane for your valuable help and attention. Food here was divine: an amazing buffet breakfast with the pleasant choice of both Japanese, western and Chinese delicacies and, most of all, a top notch chophouse - Emba - which we definitely recommend to try if you want to taste some fantastic wagyu beef and heavenly tuna. Also remarkable was the bar where we had fantastic cocktails for which we thank Mr. Takashi, the bar manager. BUT, our experience would’t be the same without the outstanding talent, the remarkable professionalism, the incomparable warmth, the natural leadership of the one and the only Mr. Giovanni D’Alessandro - the F&B Director - who not only delivered an impeccable, high quality amazing food offer and coordinated - for any lucky guest of the hotel - an efficient and friendly team (among which we want to highlight and thank the talented Sous Chef Ms. Wen Li) but who is the ultimate game changer. Always there with a smile, always attentive with resolution, always intuitive, always caring for us in any single moment of our stay: his exceptional skills, special charisma and veritable passion really showed us the difference between doing a good job and putting your heart in what you do. He just made the magic happen. Hospitality, at the end of the day, is a business of relation and the more you believe in what you do the more you’ll be able to give other people memories which they’ll treasure for life. Thank you so very much, Giovanni, for everything you did for us, we felt recognized, cared and special, our experience won’t be ever forgot, our memories will never fade, our heart will always be grateful. We look forward to the next Four Seasons’ adventure.
