Superb hotel. Great location, on the beach. Our room was fantastic. Food excellent and staff first class. This hotel is a must if visiting Maui - you will not be disappointed. It is a big hotel but there is so much space - you never feel that it is crowded.
Luxury and outstanding hospitaloty

There are so many resorts who refer to customers as guests, but this was truly the first time that I felt like an actual guest. The resort is beautiful and comfortable, but the customer service is simply outstanding. Every single individual we encountered - from the front desk to housekeeping and engineering to staff in the restaurants, pools, and beach, to security after we left (and left an item behind) -- were just exceptionally professional, kind, helpful and fun. We were amazed at how everyone remembered our names and preferences, and made us feel comfortable and actually welcome. We would go back here in a heartbeat.

A drop-dead gorgeous lobby with soaring ceilings and beautiful architecture. All open and really gives you the sense of being in a grand, majestic place.
Rooms have been renovated and are spacious and beautifully decorated. Bathroom is gorgeous and huge.
Deck was a great size, but our “partial ocean view” room and minor view of ocean, and good view of the dumpster in the alleyway which was certainly annoying. Spring instead for the ocean or garden view rooms.
Grounds are beautiful and spacious. Beautiful walkways with wonderful gas tiki torches lit at night that make it magical.
Had a drink at the bar in Pilina and it was wonderful—completely open to the beautiul grounds and buildings. Although this is a large hotel, the buildings are of gorgeous architecture and are spaced so they’re not crowded.
Ate at Nick’s Fishmarket and it was perfect. Beautiful outdoor seating, terrific food and service.
A perfect place to stay in Maui.

We booked this hotel for my boyfriends birthday because I kept hearing that it was better than the Four Seasons (which we’ll also visit during this trip) and I wanted to compare the two hotels for future reference. I must say though, that my initial impression of Fairmont has been “meh”.
While the hotel IS lovely (it has an open air lobby & you see the beach from the moment you enter), checking in to our room left much to be desired. We arrived early at 12:15 and there were no rooms available. This was no big deal though, we just enjoyed walking around & explored the grounds a bit. After waiting over an hour, we received a text that our suite was ready… Now the real fun could begin, right? Wrong. We got into the suite and were greeted by a juicy roach. Now, I DO NOT roach, but I said “you know what? It’s not uncommon on the island… I’ll let it slide. That was until we walked in to the bedroom area to see to find a dead mosquito/gnat/bug at the base of the pillow. I got ready to remove that and my boyfriend pointed out another roach on the wall. At this point, I’m like “nope”. So, I dispose of the bug, and go into the bathroom to was my hands and see there are hairs in the sink and the bathtub is dirty. Of note, there were also a bunch of hairs and stains in the bed.
I immediately returned to the front desk to request a different room. I mean, for the thousands of dollars we spent to book this resort, I expected more.
I will say though that Tara, who checked us in, was apologetic and offered to switch our room. We opted to do so, but the wait time was probably another hour or more.
My initial impression of this place leaves much to be desired. I hope we don’t regret making this a part of this birthday trip. I guess the next few days will tell.

Fresh newlyweds came from Turtle bay which was amazing to Fairmont. We didn’t think it would live up to expectations but we were wrong ! Place is immaculate! Great service and nicest people on the island of Maui. Huge shoutout to Nick the bartender at pool bar. Makes everyone feel like a local and personally seen him go above and beyond in more than one occasion. Little girl cut her chin in the pool and before her father even noticed he had a bag of ice ready to go for her. Some employees put on a face like they care but this man truly cares for not only his job but also people in general .. great job Fairmont for employing great people and hosting a great honeymoon ! We will for sure be coming back!

The pros: the resort is beautiful, the breakfast buffet is great and the staff at the restaurants is very pleasant.
What really ruined our experience and the stay is that this is the second day now in a row where we’re unable to enter our room when we need to. We have various tours and dinners booked and are on a tight schedule and yesterday we waited for over 30min to get into our bedroom after coming from the pool. Our key didn’t work and we went down to the front desk where they said the yellow light on the door means that the battery needs replacement or a reset and that they’ll send security to fix it and that it will be done in 15min. Over 20min later we went to the room to try again, had no luck so we went down again and after talking to security for a while they just gave us new keys. These keys finally worked but we entered the room 20min before our dinner reservation.. after dinner our keys didn’t work again and we had to go down to the front desk for the third time that day and they again gave us another new set of keys, while still claiming that keys are “fine”. Next day after coming back from our morning tour, once again our keys didn’t work. We went to complain again and they sent a security guy immediately this time because they sensed how upset we were. They said on the phone to security go immediately so we don’t have to wait over 30min like we did yesterday. We met a security person at the door, he was replacing a battery today claiming today it’s the battery but yesterday we were having bad keys even though the front desk was telling us the opposite yesterday..
all in all quite frustrating for a 5 star resort and really negatively impacts the experience. I hope we don’t run into any more issues in the next couple of days.

My husband and I spent the first half of our 10-day Maui trip at the Fairmont. We were on the island for my 40th birthday and this was a special milestone celebration for us. Overall, I would not return here. The hotel is definitely not a 5-star experience and does not live up to the Fairmont branding. Would skip this and go to the Four Seasons, Andaz or Hotel Wailea.
Pros:
- Beautiful lobby and wonderful renovations
-amazing valet team. Special shout out to Robert!
-great location on the beach
-Easy to secure beach chairs and umbrellas even during peak hours
-spacious rooms and balconies
Cons:
-my husband ordered 2 cakes to arrive as surprises for my birthday. They never showed up. We were given a room credit as compensation but it wasn't reflected on our bill at checkout. Required a bit of back and forth to resolve at check out
-check your bill very carefully. They tried to charge for valet, although it was included with our package. This again required some back and forth to resolve at check out
-there was a gnat infestation in our room. Gnats all over the balcony door, in the living area, bathroom etc. They sprayed but the gnats persisted and eventually infiltrated the room fridge. So gross. They gave us cookies to apologize for the inconvenience
-the rooms were recently refreshed but the age of the hotel still shows on the dated and rusted balcony doors
-the bathroom was poorly cleaned. Long blonde hairs from prior guests in the tub and shower
everything here has a silly up charge. It feels like you're being nickle and dimed. For example, they charge $10 to deliver DoorDash orders to your room
-the food is mediocre and overpriced
-the spa services are nice but the spa doesn't have the extras I'm accustomed to at this price point. All you get is a small steam room, warming bench and 3 rain showers. They should adjust the price for their services accordingly. That said, Jen gave me an amazing facial and would recommend visiting her, and the staff at the spa was lovely
-impossible to get chairs by the pool as others have said and then even harder to get a server to help you. The pool staff was rude and uninviting. Because of this, we only visited the pool once
-impossible to get service at the bars. Stood around for 10 minutes while a bartender chopped limes and ignored me. Bar wasn't busy. At. All.
-there was a big conference while we were there, so dozens of folks milling about with name tags
Bottom line: they just don't get it on service at a 5-star resort. Have stayed at other Fairmont resorts and never experienced this before. Was completely baffling to us.
