I expected more from the Fairmont El San Juan. The experience was just ok. The public spaces are kept up reasonably well, but the rooms are not. Our room had a large picture missing - we could tell because the 3 large hooks were still in the wall and the paint was a different color from where the picture must have hung - not a big deal, but indicative of the upkeep. We were there for 3 days - hand soaps were never replaced, glasses were not replaced though we clearly used them. We felt the minimum was done. Just not up to the Fairmont brand. Most of the staff was we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Current room we are staying in has significant water damage with soaking wet carpets. Unable to walk on carpet without socks and feet getting wet. The room clearly has previous water damage. Reported to front desk staff. Issue not resolved that day plus the next day, security latch to the...

Current room we are staying in has significant water damage with soaking wet carpets. Unable to walk on carpet without socks and feet getting wet. The room clearly has previous water damage. Reported to front desk staff. Issue not resolved that day plus the next day, security latch to the door broke so we were locked out of the room for 45 minutes. Again reported the water issue to the front desk and ask to speak with a manager. Front desk spoke with the manager who I guessed authorized a resort fee refund for just 2 days but the manager themself did not speak with us. Housekeeping could not gain access to the room during the day.because of the door latch issue so I specifically asked the front desk to have house keeping service the room especially since we used all our towels wiping up the water leaking from the shower. Came back from diner 4 hours later and the room has not been serviced so no towels for tomorrow. While the staff are polite and professional, they have not been proactive to make it right which is unfortunate when you are spending hundreds of dollars a night on a hotel room. I would have thought with the soaking wet carpet they would have at least offered a different room and provide some compensation for the time we spent locked out of our room, reporting the issue multiple times and having to walk on a soaking wet carpet everytime we want to leave the room or use the bathroom.

Amazing location and friendly attentive staff. The pools are spacious and the beach access and seating is ideal. The hotel has a ton of history which is clearly present in the gorgeous lobby space. We came for our anniversary and found the experience very special. Old San Juan and the airport are very close and easy to access by uber. Highly recommend!

We just returned from a fantastic week (March 6-13, 2025) at the beautiful El San Juan Hotel, and we can’t say enough about how wonderful our experience was! From the moment we arrived, every single staff member was incredibly kind and welcoming. The bartenders were friendly and engaging, the pool staff went above and beyond to ensure guests were comfortable, and our room was cleaned promptly and meticulously each day. One of the biggest highlights for us was the ample seating at the pool—something we’ve struggled with at other resorts. It was such a relief to be able to relax and enjoy the surroundings without the stress of securing a spot at the pool or beach. The entire vibe of the hotel is just amazing, from the beautiful atmosphere to the perfectly curated music playing by the pool. Evenings at El San Juan Hotel were just as special. The historic bar transports you to another era with live entertainment and an energetic yet elegant ambiance. The casino was the perfect size for us—not too overwhelming but still offering plenty of fun. We travel often, and this was our third trip to Puerto Rico in the last 10 years, but by far the best experience we’ve had. At checkout, we were invited to become Fairmont members, and we immediately said yes—we can’t wait to stay updated on special events and return next year! Thank you, El San Juan Hotel, for an unforgettable stay. See you in 2026!

We had a wonderful 5 day experience at the Fairmont. Staff was amazing and always willing to help. The restaurants, pools and beach were clean and well maintained. Martin at the pool bar was a joy to talk to. We would definitely return for more fun!

This hotel has good and bad aspects. The grounds, the buildings and the hallways definitely are in need of refurbishing. The pool water is super cold. There are too hot tubs that are OK. The music at the pool is way too loud from about 11:30 till 4:30 The staff...

This hotel has good and bad aspects. The grounds, the buildings and the hallways definitely are in need of refurbishing. The pool water is super cold. There are too hot tubs that are OK. The music at the pool is way too loud from about 11:30 till 4:30 The staff are very friendly, but I think overall this property is not managed well. I did a fun yoga class out on the beach and the exercise facility is nice. There are several restaurants that have very limited options for vegans. I ended up ordering from Uber eats. We had noisy neighbors partying on a patio below us. Some of the people that come here have poor manners. Overall, we felt it was not worth what we paid and we will not be back .

My wife and I checked into Fairmont's El San Juan Hotel, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on January 31st, 2025. Cosmetically, this is a beautiful hotel, with numerous palm trees outside, and gorgeous wood in the lobby, inside. However, that's where the charm ends. In a nutshell, pool water is cold, music by the pools is concert level, and check-in process was poorly handled. Finally, the place just looks a little beat up. Staff are generally friendly. We will not be coming back.

Great hotel. Awesome service and loved the pool or beach option. I used the spa as well and it was great, lots to do on the grounds. Plenty of food options a 5 star experience. We stayed in the bungalows and really enjoyed the experience. Would go again.

My husband and I have been to many sun soaked beaches around the world. Our experience at the Fairmont San Juan Hotel is one of the top. From the time you enter the hotel you feel transported to a place that feels like you are stepping onto an 18th century old ship. You are greeted in the lobby by an exceptional chandelier that is the third largest crystal chandelier in the world. The dark cherry wood walls are warm with a history of classic accommodations from yesteryear. The staff is eggar to assist in your every need. Our room was spacious and our house keeping was quick to learn our habits and we returned from breakfast each day to a clean room with fresh towels and linens. Our buffet breakfast had many options and the locally sourced coffee was hot and our mugs were kept full. The beach attendants were very accommodating and tended to every request. The guests at the resort were from all ages and there were children’s areas and adult only areas. Locals would come along the beach selling coconut drinks and picture opportunities with parrots. There is a lovely 300 year old tree on the property that lends to the history of this oasis. Could not ask for a better experience. If you are looking for a modern stale hotel this is not your place but if you enjoy old world charm you have found it.
