A complete delight from start to finish. The style is elegant with a gentleness and charm from an earlier era. The hotel is immaculately maintained (we saw a man walking the corridors with a paint brush to eradicate any tiny blemish) and has made good use of the site to develop a beautiful garden with lots of little nooks and crannies where you can find peace and solitude. Cross over a quiet road and you arrive at a small private beach with one of the most delightful little beach side restaurants I’ve ever been to in Italy. The staff are professional, the breakfast extensive and of good quality. We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was very good. The clientele are generally older European and families with adult children. As we hover at retirement age we felt at home! We loved it so much we booked for the following year before we left. What a great discovery.

This is an exceptionally well-run hotel. It's strange to say this about a place that costs nearly $1000 a night, but it's a good value. Everything is just so well done. It is a very satisfying place to stay. This is our second time, and it is great to see the same cast of characters -- Alessandro, Beniamino, Branka, and Enzo and others -- exactly as they have always been. It's like tuning into an old episode of Friends.

We have been going back to the Excelsior for several years and it is always great. What can we say that has not already been said? We have stayed at many top hotels around the world but in our opinion the Excelsior in Ischia is the best. There is something about it that sets it above the rest (a 6 star hotel!). It is possibly the attention to every detail and the service provided, which are second to none. Jim Gilchrist.

Simply everything about the place is truly wonderful, far too much to mention individually. The staff deserve a special mention as they were all fabulous, Enzo of course needs an extra special mention as does Gino, the pianist, both absolute gentleman and both so happy. A real delight to be around. THANK YOU to everyone for a wonderful holiday.

What can we say that has not been said before? The service was first class, regardless of the role of the staff, they were simply the most professional you could wish for. There was a fabulous atmosphere generated by the staff from the moment you walked in the Reception to the moment you left. A special mention goes to Enzo the head barman/sommelier and Giuseppe, plus Giuseppe the waiter and aspiring sommelier, plus Gino the wonderful pianist who entertained us for 4hrs, non-stop every night. The meals are first class and deserve a Michelin award! Finally the pride in the owners is clear, a wonderful hotel that has generated amazing memories and one we shall return to! Thank you!

Recently returned from our 1st visit to Ischia with a one week stay in September at the Excelsior. There was only one room available at the time of booking, a deluxe garden view room. I would have chosen a Seaview room if one had been available but actually we were very happy with our room on the 3rd floor. The room was a decent size, with a bathtub, plenty of hanging space and a private sunny terrace with table & chairs. What we loved the most is how quiet it was. Never heard any other guests or any noise during the night. Despite the fact that the hotel was fully booked you would never know it when you were lying by the pool. There were always plenty of loungers available and so there was never that horrid feeling of hotel guests all lying next to each other. (Many guests chose to be by the beach or on loungers positioned around the gardens). The outdoor pool was delightful and it was nice to swim everyday, having the whole pool to myself. The indoor pool looked good too but I never used it. We were blessed with 7 days of perfect weather. Lunch service at both the pool bar/restaurant and beach bar were excellent. We also had dinner twice in the hotel restaurant and dining on the hotel terrace is a lovely setting. I mainly chose this hotel for the location. It was an easy walk along the main street either to the port in one direction or to Aragonese Castle in the other. We both really enjoyed our stay. The only niggle perhaps is the fact there is only one person on the front desk. On 2 occasions we stopped by the desk with a quick question, only to find that another guest was in a lengthy discussion about a travel/tour matter so we stood around waiting and waiting.... and I feel that a 5 star hotel should have more than 1 person available. With the exception of the front desk, we were charmed by all the other hotel staff we encountered. We also enjoyed trying the various ischian wines that were recommended to us. Finally, I forgot to mention the wonderful pastries at breakfast. The central table was groaning with freshly baked cakes, pastries, fruit tarts & italian delicacies. Much restraint is required!

Wow, what can I say to accurately describe this heavenly oasis in Ischia? We got married in Ischia at Castello Aragonese and before/during/after our wedding we stayed at this truly magnificent hotel. This was our third time to Ischia and without a doubt the best visit we've had. Well, yes, we did get married! But, even that aside, a lot of the joy came from staying at this lovely hotel for 12 days. We hosted our Welcome Party at the Excelsior Belvedere exclusive Beach Club and that was such a fantastic way to kick-off our wedding festivities. Alessandro and Enzo and the whole team went above and beyond to make sure that our party went off without a hitch. They set-up the Beach Club so beautifully with lights, a wooden platform for guests to walk across the sand, an open bar and so many delicious and decadent hors d'oeurves. The view of the castle at sunset was spectacular. Thank you to everyone who helped make this party a success - the guests loved it and so did we!!! During our wedding week we stayed in the Grand Suite. Words simply cannot describe this truly elegant and impressive suite. It's basically an apartment - you feel like you're in section of a Medici mansion! It has gorgeous antique rugs, beautiful white tile throughout, a huge closet, and most amazingly, a GIGANTIC terrace on the front and back - it has to be the largest terrace on the entire island! The suite even has a beautiful kitchen and the most fantastic bathrooms and comfortable beds. The room is very private on the top floor and therefore very exclusive. Our only regret is that we had to check out of the room eventually - it was mind-boggling amazing. During our honeymoon we stayed right next to our Grand Suite in a beautifully appointed Junior Suite. This room had stunning blue & white tile, a large terrace with daybeds and a table/chairs and a perfect view of Castello Aragonese. We were so happy in this room! We had a dream honeymoon and now that the wedding festivities were over, we were able to really enjoy all the hotel had to offer - from the amazing spa and massages, to the first-class beach club (they make the most perfect Aperol Spritz!), the private beach and the swimming pools, and the exquisite Restaurant Belvedere (outstanding!!!). The hotel is located in arguably the best part of Ischia (we know, we've been all over the island). 😊 Tucked away in a lush garden setting in the posh area of Ischia Porto with quiet streets and elegant shops and amazing restaurants. The hotel has a very private beach in a little cove-like area that's connected to the property (you walk through the property on a short pathway direct to the beach's private entrance). If you need a taxi anywhere, the hotel front desk (thank you to each of you!!!) is quick to order you a taxi. Castello Aragonese is a 15-20 minute walk on the side back street or the main street - Corso Vitroria Colonna. By the way, Corso Vitroria Colonna street gets filled with people from 10pm on -- it's so much fun!!! But, the hotel is a quiet retreat away from any noise. The piano player in the lobby was a particular treat in the evenings, as was enjoying one of Enzo's spectacular cocktails. We miss his perfect espresso martinis, spagliatos and Aperol Spritzes! 😉 I also can't forget to mention the impressive breakfast selection every morning. We also enjoyed room service on a few occasions and it was perfect. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for welcoming us and making our wedding & honeymoon in Ischia an absolute dream. We owe much of our pleasure to you and the generous, hospitable, and friendly staff at the hotel. We cannot wait to return! We are still glowing from our trip!

My wife and I are just finishing 9 wonderful days at the Excelsior. This came at the end of 2 weeks traveling with our grown children for a family wedding in Tuscany. It was the perfect way to end our trip alone. The hotel is outstanding and it is no surprise it receives such excellent reviews. The entire staff- Pietro the Concierge; Branka, Antonio, Emanuele, and Sinaida, from reservations and the front desk, to the housekeeping and room service staff could not have been kinder, nicer, or more helpful. The hotel is immaculate; the service top notch; and the facilities beautiful. Great location near town, many restaurants of all levels and types. The breakfasts were served in a beautiful (and, fortunately, air conditioned, old world dining room; we were here during a real hot spell in July) and were outstanding. We stayed in a top floor suite, with an enormous terrace overlooking the ocean. Very quiet and peaceful and we got a great deal of rest and much needed relaxation. It was a true, old world, top drawer experience and surpassed our expectations. Highly recommended and much thanks to the entire staff for making us feel so welcome and at home. Praise for everyone and the property. Quiet elegance. Grazie Mille!

Stayed for 4 nights. The welcome upon arrival was first class. The public areas of the hotel are excellent - beautifully furnished and well laid out. The pool area is very pleasant and relaxing. Our room was very spacious (incl separate walk-in wardrobe), and the lovely sea view from the balcony was worth the supplement. Staff are unfailingly polite and go out of their way to help ensure all guests are very happy. My wife said her spa treatment was really excellent. A full spread of cakes, pastries, fruit and cooked items is offered for breakfast and these were all very well prepared/cooked. We ate dinner 3 times in the hotel restaurant - the food was excellent each time (and the one dish my wife didn’t like (purely for personal taste reasons) was proactively replaced without any issue by the waiting staff, which impressed me). The dining room felt cavernous with quite harsh lighting, and the hotel adopts a VERY formal “fine dining“ approach throughout which some guests may find overly fussy (e.g. topping up your wine glass 8 times during a meal by a tiny amount each time, and staff eager to carry your self-selected plate of breakfast pastries to your table for you), but each to his own I suppose. Other things I’d change if I could: (i) the bath was extremely narrow, almost uncomfortably so, and (ii) the bedroom was decorated/furnished in a shabby-chic style, but would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and the addition of some nice wall pictures to it feel more chic/homely. However, I would not hesitate to return to this hotel if returning to beautiful Ischia, as it’s is a lovely oasis, well located on the island, with exceptionally high standards of customer service and the staff work so hard to make you feel like a really honoured guest.

My wife and I were looking to book a trip to Italy. We had agreed on a couple of days in Roma first, but where to next. My wife wanted to sit on a beach somewhere and relax. I am a big researcher and looked at hotels in Positano, Capri, and Sorrento. I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of hotels, but during my research I discovered Ischia and decided to take a look. My first google brought up Excelsior Belvedere Hotel. I called my wife immediately and booked a junior suite immediately. While the other places are more famous, and bougy, Ischia is a true gem. Less crowded with some sand beaches, which is rare. The ferry to Ischia takes @ 30 minutes and they do have a little snack bar on board if you need a beverage. The water can be a little choppy so if you get sea sick bring something to help. We had an older lady on our ferry who got sick. bleh. A driver picked us up at the port and whisked us to our slice of heaven. We were met by Branka and Pietro at the Front Desk. Such wonderful staff full of recs and really wanting to make your trip special. We booked a junior suite and they gave us the Admiral Suite. It made my wife cry. The terrace was huge with views of the Med and the Castello. Wow! The room was well appointed, comfortable, decent A/C and a comfortable bed. Did I mention a walk-in closet? Yep! We had cocktails and dinner at the hotel our first night and got to meet Enzo, who really is a gem. We love you Enzo, but quit telling my wife she is better looking. 😇 Enzo works the bar/lounge and sometimes beach bar and he can make a killer whiskey sour. Dinner was wonderful and we got to meet the numerous Giuseppe's. Our waiter we named Giuseppe bambino since he was the youngest. Great guy and we bonded over Ishcia Rabbit, which I was dying to try. Wonderful local dish. Giuseppe boss, was the maitre'd. My wife was struggling with what she wanted to order and he was so patient and pleasant. G. Giuseppe works at the bar and the pool bar. A great guy who looks to please. We spent most of our time at the beach, which is private and pretty small but has real sand!! Giovanni (Johnny) is the lifeguard and was very attentive, including helping older people get in and out of the water. You could tell he really cared. There is a beach bar area that has @ 8 tables setup for lunch. Additionally if you wanted a drink brought to your chair they would do so. Sara and Christian took such great care of us. They have changing rooms and a toilette on the beach. You could also sit on the deck over the rocks with a view of the castle, but we love to have our feet in the sand. We had Branka, at the front desk, book a boat tour for us to Capri, Positano and we had lunch at lunch at La Concha del Sogno Beach Club. It was one of the most amazing days. Highly recommend. My wife had a facial and massage. She wants me to call out Ana and Miriam in the spa. She loved them. If you have time and the inclination, my wife recommends the mud treatments too. It is volcanic mud infused with minerals. The main pool and indoor pool are fed by hot water mineral springs but don't smell at all. The hotel is an easy walk to shopping and restaurants. We absolutely loved the hotel, but what really makes it is the Staff. They truly do want you to have a memorable experience.

The most relaxed beach area with a bar And above all: The most friendly and lovely staff. Cons. For the above reasons, you don't want to leave the hotel at all. One would just to enjoy the Excelsior aesthetic atmosphere and the friendliness of all the staff. Thank you and grazie mille per tutti!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Excelsior Belvedere this past May. The room, facilities, grounds and staff were top notch. We had a beautiful sea view room with a balcony. Unfortunately when we arrived from Naples I did not feel well. The staff of the hotel were wonderful. An excellent physician contacted by the hotel diagnosed me with bronchitis and infections in both ears. He treated me on the premises and the hotel staff helped us change our travels plans to accommodate my recovery. The hotel’s thermal pools, views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, fine restaurant and room service made it a perfect place to convalesce. The hotel is close to both Ischia Ponte and Ischia Porto so we could enjoy both charming towns despite my having limited energy. My husband visited the nearby castle which he said had spectacular views. Our stay was made all the more comfortable by the thoughtfulness of the reservation manager Antonio Mancusi and the other hotel staff. Despite my illness, we both had a wonderful time in Ischia and are eager to return.

We first visited this hotel 20 years ago and have visited numerous times since. This was our first visit for three years due to all the travel restrictions and we were a little worried that things may have changed. The only changes, such as the new garden pool, were for the better and the usual high standards have been maintained. The whole hotel is beautifully kept, the gardens are stunning, the rooms very comfortable and the food exceptionally good. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are all so professional while also being friendly and kind. They really make this an amazing place to spend a relaxing holiday and we appreciate their hard work. We look forward to visiting again next year.
