We loved our two week break at Elounda Mare. We were in a one bedroom suite in the main hotel building, overlooking the pool and the sea beyond. The suite was a little bit tired in places, but very comfortable and clean with good housekeeping. The balcony extended across both the living room and bedroom and was spacious with great views. It was worth an early start to watch the sunrise. As others have commented the grounds are lovely and very well tended. There are a lot of steps and slopes as the hotel is set into a hill which drops down to the sea. Some lovely places to sit on the shore with steps into the sea, as well as the sandy beach. It was a 25 minute walk into town which we did several times, lots of nice restaurants on the water front. We liked Ferryman the best. Taxis are plentiful if you don’t fancy the walk back. The hotel bar was usually quiet, but pleasant with a nice terrace area outside. The boat round to the sister hotel was a nice little trip and the Italian restaurant there was very good. We enjoyed all the meals we had the hotel, breakfast was vey good with a wide choice and fantastic views. This was the only place where the hotel felt busy as a lot of the accommodation is in private bungalows/villas with their own pools. So the main pool was always very quiet and it was always possible to find a good spot by the sea, even though the hotel was apparently fully booked for most of the time we were there. The mid-October weather was beautiful. We hired a car and explored most of the eastern end of the island, which I would recommend.

There is taxi service available to town which made it perfect for enjoying the tranquil setting and still be able to get in to town for the amazing cuisine.

Everything about this hotel is perfect- location, accommodation, food and staff. One small improvement ……. The music particularly during breakfast. Killing me softly …… everyday and sometimes twice. Elevator music on a loop 😀 last breakfast tomorrow 🤞

Looking through the reviews, and indeed ours from previous visits , we all agree location - a delight , staff as friendly and efficient as you might want , food very good particularly at the old mill , il Boro , and the yacht club - at the last named some perfectly grilled fish . The new manager is keen for you to know if you have any issues let him know -but we didnt . The hotel is in a most beautiful , and serene location the phone is out to capture the beauty of the views from the yacht club , the beach bar - rose champagne at 12 everyday-and from the walks around the hotel estate . We did not leave the hotel - didnt need to -that says it all . Sad to leave this little paradise , our "royalty suite " with its little pool and views of the sea imprinted on our memory -until next time .

A magical hotel and estate that never disappoints. After nine visits in nine years, Elounda Mare continues to delight in every way. Accommodation, food, setting esp. views across the Mirabello Bay, and best of all, the staff are all truly exceptional. Cannot wait to go back, hopefully in 2025. Highly recommended
Understated luxury and warm Greek hospitality

We came for the second time to Eloúnda Mare Hotel where we spent 9 days in a bungalow with a private pool and with bay view. The hotel is located in a quiet bay with a beautiful private beach. The hotel is very well maintained, the service everywhere efficient and very polite. Breakfast buffet offers a large variety of qualitative food and the restaurants are perfect. You have the Yacht Club close overlooking the beach and the Old Mill à la carte Restaurant for fine dining. Both are romantic places. Also the park of the hotel is green and beautiful. The outdoor pool is very large and beautifully shaped. You really have to come to this beautiful hotel in Crete!

Delightful stay at Elounda Mare Hotel. Wonderful breakfast, lovely amenities. Joann really went the extra mile to assure we had a wonderful excursion with our open day. We enjoyed the beach experience with great snorkeling. We also attended the street market in Agio Nikolias, an easy 10 minute taxi ride away.

We have just returned home after a fabulous 2 weeks stay at this excellent hotel. It is a very special place. The location is outstanding with its gorgeous view across Mirabello Bay. The sea is crystal clear and can be accessed from the private beach or from paved areas above the rocks. Sunbeds are plentiful across the site, and there is never any difficulty finding one. As so many other reviews make clear, the staff are just superb, without exception. We have stayed in many great hotels, and this one is right up there with the best. Other than breakfast, which is very good, I can not comment on the restaurants as we always ate out at the many restaurants in Elounda. Thanks, Elounda Mare, for a wonderful holiday.

The Elounda Mare is a great five star hotel. Our spacious room had its own pool and garden area, and the hotel grounds were large and beautiful - with swimming pools and lovely harbour areas where you could go in the sea. there are eight restaurants on site - they were a little expensive for us but the town of Elounda is only 15 minutes walk away with a huge amount of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. The staff in the hotel were attentive and helpful and the room was cleaned twice a day - with new towels and new bottles of water every day. We hired a car for one day to explore a bit more of the island - there are 5 or 6 car hire companies within half a mile of the hotel.

What a wonderful Place. We enjoyed the most perfect 2nd visit recently. It was even better than 6 years ago and it was lovely to see some familiar faces among the staff who are all exceptional and so welcoming. As it was my husbands birthday we did the most special day on the gorgeous big blue sailing ship owned by the hotel. Many thanks to Captain well assisted by first mate Matilda a quite exceptional young lady who also captained the transfer boat in the evenings between hotels . So much to enjoy in this quiet sophisticated hotel. Delicious food, lovely private beach and a real sense of timeless. I would Recommend for the discerning traveller who wants a genuine experience of the highest quality. The spa is modern and quite exceptional. Would Like to say a special Thanks to Vangellis, olga and Spiros wonderful staff who made our stay special. See you next year.

Our eighth year in a row at the Elounda Mare and our love for this hotel continues to grow. A fifty minute drive from the airport and endowed with the most majestic views across Mirabello Bay, it is easy to fall in love with this establishment. The hotel, including bungalows and the wider estate are magnificent. Lots of greenery and an authentic, more traditional Greek feel to the architecture, accommodation and general "look and feel". The staff are genuinely exceptional. All of the on site restaurants are excellent and a variety of additional options are available at the two sister hotels. The delightful village of Plaka and the larger Agios Nickolais are both only a short drive away. This feels like a second home to us now and we very much hope to return again next year. A huge thank you to Harry and every single member of his world class team.

We found the Elounda Mare on the Relais & Châteaux website and were very happy with our 7 days at the hotel. The staff is amazing and everyone went out of their way to make our experience a memorable one. A huge thank you to the entire Elounda Mare staff and special thanks to Ioanna at guest relations, Fronthin at the front desk, George our reservation agent, and Marina, George, and the sommelier at the restaurants. The hotel has a rustic feel (lots of antiques) and we liked the stone pathways and overall architecture. It feels authentic and never crowded! Due to the location, there's some wind and the view of the bay and mountains is truly spectacular. I would strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for total R&R and good food. The premium dine-around plan is designed for those with a hearty appetite as the cost is quite steep (90 euros per day/person). We switched to the bed-and-breakfast plan after 3 days, ordering a la carte, which best suited our needs and budget. While families seemed to prefer the small beach area, we liked using the pool in our bungalow, the main pool, and swimming in the Crete Sea directly from the rocks! We loved eating at the Yacht Club, The Old Mill, and Il Borro, the Italian restaurant located in the sister hotel. There's a motorized boat with an efficient and friendly crew to take you to the sister hotel (5-minute cruise) or you can take a golf cart. The Six Senses Spa located in the sister hotel is fantastic and very much worth the visit (Athina gives an awesome manicure/pedicure and Erika is the best massage therapist). Looking forward to coming back soon!
