We stayed 3-weeks, following a convention, in Las Casitas (see pics) allowing us to see all the property had to offer, including touring hotel rooms. The rooms in Las Brisas wing are not remodeled. The property is still remodeling and recovering from hurricanes so do not expect the gorgeous exterior to translate to a luxury feel. Picture-postcard beautiful, but sprawling with seriously long hikes (stairs) to access pools, restaurants. Our casita came with our own golf cart so we didn't experience the hassle of calling for/waiting for shuttles. Las Casitas has 3 pools, private from the hotel, which allowed us to avoid crowds. The golf course was in good condition. The elevation changes and blind shots provided challenging rounds. You will want to play it more than once. We were flexible and could take advantage of afternoon rates, but noticed that they have local memberships, and the weekend morning tee times were filled. Tip: Conventions may gobble up tee times too. The golf carts used for guest shuttles and maintenance workers are gas-powered and LOUD and plentiful. Maintenance workers noisily speed around everywhere like they are on a race track. Tip: Stay in the oceanside casitas to avoid having to listen to the cart noise coming from the parking lot/road side. There is no beach at the hotel. The island the hotel touts as its "Private 100-acre getaway" is a long walk, then an elevator trip, a funicular ride, and then a wait (every 30 minutes) for a ferry for a 15-20 minute ride to an off-shore island that is not private. The hotel has roped off the sandy beach for hotel guests, but it's too small to accommodate the number of guests -- and number of members -- they sell memberships to locals who can use the facilities. In fact, we were told that the island restaurant would only serve burgers and a limited bar-food menu, because there were too many people for the kitchen to keep up. Tip: the hotel survives on convention business, so you should ask when a large convention is booked and plan your stay accordingly. The only hotel restaurant with fairly good food is Sicilia -- which is independently-owned from the hotel. That probably explains why you have to go there in-person and make a reservation; the concierge can not make it for you. We knew that Puerto Rico is not a place for a luxury trip -- there are no luxe establishments here. We came to attend a convention, but stayed because El Conquistador met our needs for a quiet get-out-of-winter-weather stay and some golf. We had a rental car to shop (Walmart to stock our kitchen for meals in) and visit restaurants off-property.

Descent place. We figured it would be quieter being a resort away from SanJuan and spring break, we were wrong. Nevertheless, the negatives; ice cream shop didnt have much selection, Bella Vista resturant was terrible, not worth a dime, drinks are wayyyy over priced in the resort, they have parking along ways away, which they charge you for, and some weird outdated method where they have to let you in and out with a ticket. There is no beach. You have to take a ferry to a beach. The rooms are outdated like an old motel 6. A weird step down tub and old tiles and lighting. What you see on the outside is not what you get. On the positive side, the dinner buffet was great on Sunday, pools are spacious, but dip behind the sun after 4pm, live events, fire pjt outside, pool tables, a 24 hour coffee shop (coffee is a loose word to use here) haha, and most people have been friendly. I would not stay here again as there are so many better options, but its not what i would call terrible.

Golf and the views are the best thing in this hotel. WiFi is horrible.. yet you get charged $65 a night per room for a resort fees. We prepaid for two rooms with ocean view. One room’s view was blocked by trees. No view. They moved us but it came with a hefty price… $300 more a night for a view! Spa was ok but nothing great. Very limited . 4 massages and a few facials to choose. On hot tub and one steam room. One room was super humid and AC kept turning off at night. The Italian restaurant was not great. We asked for more bread and they said they would charge us extra. The Palomino island was nice and the water was great. Overall, I would not recommend to stay here. We won’t be returning.

The Ballyhoo restaurant is phenomenal! Our server, Gilberto, was second to none. The food was delicious, and the manager, Alexis, is “The Man”. We have been here for lunch and dinner, and both meals were excellent! The location is right on the ocean!

Staff is amazing! Loved the bartender at cafe Bella vista. His name is Pedro and he is the best. On point and fast, nice and attentive. He suggested local food places to try and was so right!! The property itself is stunning. The private island is so beautiful!!!!!!!

This place is a scam. Everything is broken and doesn’t work. No phone signal or WiFi on property. If you’ve ever stayed anywhere decent in Mexico or DR you know this place is a total ripoff. $400/night for a pretty view while riding a cable car. Management should be embarrassed....
