Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa. Absolutely beautiful resort, gorgeous rooms with full kitchen & in room washer & dryer. On site restaurants are great, and themed pools are beautiful. Skipped the parks & spent a few days touring central florida while still enjoying a bit of Disney magic.

Ate at the waterside restaurant for lunch today. Felt a brief escape from the whole direct Disney theming elsewhere on the resort. The setting and theming was incredible. Service, food, pricing all spot on. Paid $17 for the crispy chicken burger. $9 for pint of beer. Gorgeous views over the water. Would certainly recommend.

We went for another week at the lodge. We love this hotel and we stopped counting how many times we’ve been there. For the next 2 years however we will have to find something else. There is outside maintenance work for the next 2 years and Disney occupies even rooms...

We went for another week at the lodge. We love this hotel and we stopped counting how many times we’ve been there. For the next 2 years however we will have to find something else. There is outside maintenance work for the next 2 years and Disney occupies even rooms where you can’t use the balcony. Close the door and curtain for privacy is what Disney states in a letter in the room. Really? We don’t mind hearing or seeing some maintenance work and understand the need but after 2 full days having a painter and other maintenance staff at our balcony we asked to be moved. Special thank you to Arlene of the front desk who handled this professionally and turned our disappointed first half of the week into a magical 2nd half of the week. We didn’t see her anymore, but thank you Arlene! The solution is simple: don’t rent out the rooms that are on the outside maintenance schedule that goes week by week.

This was our first time at the Wilderness Lodge. We were impressed by its decor --very reminiscent of the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone, but with much larger and nicer rooms. We stayed in 6064, which was billed as a "fireworks view king bed room." We did have a nice view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks above the trees at night. Note: you will NOT be able to see the lower fireworks, only the ones high enough to see above the trees. Still, this was a very relaxing, easy way to view the show. No crowds and no standing for up to an hour beforehand. (During the day, the view is of the loading dock and the resort smokehouse.) The Wilderness Lodge is lovely and relatively calm compared to other deluxe resorts we've stayed in on property. It's served by a boat to the Magic Kingdom, which is the only theme park we visited while staying here. Buses provide transportation to the other parks and to Disney Springs. (We had a split stay and moved to another resort for the other theme park days.) The boat was convenient and easy enough, but would not be great for cool/bad weather days or for those who want to do very early rope drops or very late nights. Some boats are smaller and do not accommodate scooters or wheelchairs and guests using those were told to wait for the next boat. Also, the boats, while pleasant, are not as fast as the monorail from the other "Magic Kingdom" resorts. Our room had a king bed, a chair with a foot rest, another smaller chair with two nested tables that could be used for eating in the room, a large dresser unit under the television with ample storage, a nigh stand on one side of the bed and a kind of vanity table on the other. There was a large split bath with a kind of barn door that allows one to close the outer portion with the sinks in it (important so that the light doesn't wake up everyone). Note: there is not a lot of storage in the bathroom vanity, with small cubicles that don't hold much, but there is a shelf which helps. The shower was the dual rain shower/lower shower that can be adjusted type. The toiletries were the high end type (I think still the H2O kind) in large bottles and always full enough. Housekeeping was responsive to our requests for an early room make-up and extra towels. We enjoyed dinner at the Whispering Canyon and a couple of lunches at the Roaring Fork, which has a broad menu with some good sandwiches and salads made to order. Like many Disney treats, some desserts look better than they taste, so choose carefully. If it's premade and in a case, you might want to pass on it, not matter how artistically made up or cleverly named. All in all, the Wilderness Lodge was a good choice for us. I hear it's beautiful at Christmas time too with its huge fireplace and a majestic Christmas tree.

The Wilderness Lodge is amazing. My husband said it was his favorite thing about our trip (even though we visited 3 parks)! I love the warm pools and the best Bison burger at the Geyser Restaurant, sitting and looking at the lake. We took the ferry boat out for a ride and it happened to be during the fireworks- perfect timing! The food at the Fork restaurant is one of the best we've had in a resort. AND you could take it to your room to enjoy. We could see the electrical light boat parade from our room. Everything was outstanding including the room itself. Very spacious.
