We recently stayed at Castello Di Velona 4 nights with friends from Europe. The hotel location is spectacular. The views of the Tuscan countryside are exceptional. We especially enjoyed the thermal pool, and spa treatments. Hotel staff and services were also 5 stars level. Morning breakfast was really good, with many fresh options. We also had dinner at the hotel one evening in the main restaurant. While prices were higher than other restaurants we went to during our trip to Tuscany, service was exceptional, and our food was excellent. So overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Beautiful property and stunning views!!!! makes up for bad service. It is such a shame; the management can do little things to make the guest experience memorable but they seem like they don't care. But on the positive side, the spa is very nice with hot springs. Thats why the 4 stars. I had 2 treatments and they both were with Alessandro. He is very experienced, and I am used to massages but this was exceptional as he blends the modern massage techniques with the ancient treatments (Reiki). If you're visiting this property, try a treatment with Alessandro, you will NOT be disappointed. The views are breath taking!!!! Nicki Reddy

It looks amazing as you approach the castle and the views from the top are excellent. The restaurant is horrible in every way . The prices are ridiculous, the portions minuscule , the flavour non existent. When they asked how my friend enjoyed his meal he told them it was too salty . They said they’d tell the chef but it remained on our bill. The same bill that contained an extra 190 euro bottle of wine we didn’t order. They didn’t apologize and it took 20 minutes to correct the bill. 3 of the entrees arrived while the 4th , was part of some bizarre table side assembly that we had to wait for . All for a simple pasta dish that we had eaten a better version of at auto grille. The wait staff seemed confused and inexperienced. They add a 10 per cent charge on the entire bill automatically then a line for an additional tip . Here’s my tip : don’t go . There are hundreds of better places to stay in Tuscany The rooms are dingy, the beds and pillows uncomfortable. No one asked how we enjoyed our stay I don’t think they wanted to hear our answer. Not worth the money

My husband and I recently stayed at Castello di Velona for two nights while touring around Italy. We had very pleasant interactions with the staff, our room was spacious, clean and well decorated even though it was the "lowest tier" of the different types of room available to reserve. There are amazing views all around the property and the pool was the perfect place to sit and enjoy for hours. However, they price gouge horribly here. You are basically paying for the view, the setting and the seclusion of the resort. A poolside margarita pizza was 31 euros and it was my least favorite of any of the probably 10 pizzas I had while in Italy. The one I had the day prior in Florence was 11 euros and had much better crust, flavor, texture, cheese etc. We checked on options of going to the nearby town of Montalcino to explore - a 16 minute drive - and it was 110 euros per way before tip by car. For such a high room rate per night, you would think this shuttle to Montalcino would either be A) complimentary or B) maybe something like 20-30 euros considering how short of a commute it is. We opted for the e-bike rental to save a little cost, but it was still extremely expensive -- 90 euros per person. They also weren't even true e-bikes and required a LOT of pedaling, which I don't have a big problem with other than I am six months pregnant and it was 85+ degrees out. To add insult to injury, when we got to Montalcino, we saw signs for e-bikes there that were 30 euros to rent. More or less, CDV marks everything up over 3 times its actual price (like the pizza mentioned above). There is nothing nearby so they know you have no option but to pay their high prices. The first night of our stay we ate in the restaurant on the property and I had a very simple pecorino pasta - no meat, no special sauce, no truffles etc. and it was 38 euros. I think we ended up spending around 175 euro for two pasta dishes and two glasses of wine.... We did not make that mistake for night two and we stayed in Montalcino long enough to eat and ended up spending 100 euro for two glasses of wine, two pasta dishes, a salad, and an appetizer. While in the restaurant the group next to us asked to sit at a different table that was just beyond the glass wall that separated the restaurant from outside. Literally four feet. The manager/host said that would cause their service charge on their bill to go up from 10% to 15% ... a 5% increase.... again price gouge, price gouge, price gouge. There was also no hot breakfast - only thing warm was the bread you could toast. Every other hotel we went to included hot items in its breakfast spread yet this one being the most expensive did not. Overall, our experience was very pleasant but I would highly recommend considering the meal price options into your overall cost! If we could do it again, my husband would have bought some beer or wine to enjoy in the room or poolside to cut down on cost and we definitely would have eaten lunch before to not spend 100 euro on two poolside pizzas and his cocktail.

We will never go there again and will tell others to avoid at all costs. Truly a disgrace as we were on our honeymoon and were extremely disappointed with the entire experience. Every guest deserves the same level of service… Worst part is the customer service and staff. Unless you speak Italian or present as ultra wealthy, the staff including management does not look your way. Extremely expensive food as the hotel knows you do not have other options close by. A drink costs 30 euros while a pizza will cost you over 40 euros. An average meal for two will be more than 150 euros and this does not include purchasing alcohol. To add, the room was dirty when we entered, leftover food still in the fridge. Furniture old and dated. When we expressed our displeasure, all the hotel did was give us a 40 euro bottle of wine and said they hope we came back. The hotel has great amenities but the service negatively impacted the experience.
