This was our 5th visit to Huatulco, first to Barcelo, we had previously stayed at Dreams, Secrets twice and the Binneguenda. My first impression was very positive, check in was fast, our room was basic but very clean, it was kept clean our entire 10 days and our mini bar was refilled daily. Really liked the size of the resort and the staff were lovely. The reservation system for a la carte restaurants is absolutely ridiculous. We did enjoy our Italian meal the others were not very good. The buffet had some serious food safe problems, the hot food was not being kept hot, nobody was checking the temperatures, after I got sick we ate outside of the resort much more. The white wine was undrinkable a lot of the time, sometimes it was o.k. I guess they serve different types. The biggest insult was when they took our bracelets off at 12. and we were not allowed to eat or drink anything but water till our transport arrived 3 hours later. This has never happened to us in 15 years of all inclusive resorts. Would not return.

Hola Amigos...My wife and I just returned from our stay at the Barcelo Huatulco from February 23, 2025 thru March 2nd. We read numerous Trip Advisor reviews of Huatulco resorts and chose the Barcelo. We are very happy with our choice!! We are frequent travelers with a diverse experience 46 year travel base so I am providing what I hope is a fair objective review. I think this resort is a strong 4 1/2 to 5 * resort. In my opinion this resort is extremely well managed. The General Manager who we had an opportunity to meet and chat with Esav Navarette was extremely professional and assisted us with some particular requirements; it is apparent that he runs a tight ship. Also, Etanislado Valovinos who was frequently circling assuring service and touching base with his clientele, well done. 1) Food and bars are quite good. Four a la carte, a couple of snack bars and two buffets. I have had larger and smaller buffets. The food was very very good. Quite frankly if you can not make a nice meal out of the buffets or a la carte, you are not trying. We had chicken/ beef/ pork/ fish that was amazing, well flavoured. Some dishes suited our pallet and some we did not enjoy as much.. The same can be said for many of the dishes. Please keep in mind this is a Mexican resort cooking for Canadians, Columbians, Europeans, others and Americans........ many different pallets to please. You are away in a vastly different culture so try new things some you will like and some maybe not so much. Usually, a pasta bar on the go, fresh grilled meats and/or fish, so always a selection. Fresh eggs cooked to order at both buffets every morning. We had very good service in all of the restaurants. At the la carte restaurants really same thoughts with good variety and choices. Big shout out to the Italian Restaurant. We had excellent service and drinks at all the bars. We visited every bar and restaurant at the resort and we have no complaints. Good service, alcohol, variety of specialty drinks etc... try the Mezcal. We got to know some of the bar teams toooo well but made some friends and shared some laughs. Special shout out to Lobby Bar; Herman Perez and Carmen Velasquez who made valiant attempts to keep us hydrated. Servicio excellente 2) Rooms are nice and grounds are clean and beautiful. The beds in our room were excellent, The air conditioner worked well and quiet. The cleaning service was consistent and very good. 3) All buildings were in good condition and clean. Always staff around cleaning and picking up after the clientele. Front desk staff always helpful super quick and easy check in and check out. Hassle free. 4) We attended a couple of the shows at the main amphitheater and I thought they were quite good. Live band with singers and dancers. We did find and enjoy their small house band that played at the lobby bar and another band that played at the pool area one day. 5) This resort is really to conducive to meeting new people / new friends. Approximately, 70 to 80% Canadians at this resort. The entertainment staff were very good at promoting participation in aerobics, pool volleyball, beach volley ball and water polo etc... Music here was very good. Not super load techno pop all day long. Genre variety and reasonable varying volumes to suit. Mucho gracious Fernando and Joshua. 7) The Oaxacan / Mexican people are (bonita) beautiful. Quite friendly and excellent service.....but please remember you are in their country you have to make an effort as well. We try to speak Spanish as much as we can and the effort is always appreciated. We are no bueno at espanol .... but we try.....LOL 8) We hired the services of Juan Valdez Reyes(958-128-8781) to explore off resort. His service was excellent with reasonable and fair rates. We visited some places that do not see tourists as regularly. Everywhere we went the local people were friendly and good to us. In summary, I think this is a solid 4 1/2 * resort. We had a great week at the Barcelo Huatulco. It was our first time in Huatulco and the Barcelo resort was very good. We don't visit a resort twice just because we like to try different hotels. We had a great week at this resort. A few things that we didn't like but they did not impact our trip, just minor inconveniences really. Good: Rooms are clean Pool is nice Breakfast & lunch were good Drinks were good Beach is nice Staff were very friendly & helpful Location is great Weather was fantastic, consistently hot & sunny Issues: Internet isn't great La Dona Rosa night time buffett needs some work Water temp in shower was inconsistent depending on time of day Need more loungers and more shaded areas Would not hesitate to recommend. Mostly Canadians at this resort and we felt very safe.

Better than busy Mexican locations

The food entertainment and facilities were great. Very low key in a rural setting. A nice change from Cancun etc. housekeeping (Irma) was delightful and efficient. A la carte restaurants were top notch. We paid for premium rooms which was worth it.
