Booked with lady called Venus, Gave price and then added more for Christmas and New Years dinner, sounded OK. Let her know we were arriving arround 8 PM ,Christmas Eve. When arrived dealt with what appeared to be new guy and someone overseeing. Made a point of letting them know I paid extra for Christmas dinner and New Years. They looked at each other steangely. Let them know we were tired and hungry, they went out of there way to direct me and my girlfriend to the buffet.Next day found out Christmas Dinner was on Christmas Eve, it was going on while we checked in!!!! Found out next day asked to see manager, UNBELIEVABLY rude. Called ma a liar, said it was my choice to go to buffet and when I asked for refund for dinner told me they had NO REFUNDS policy. Tottally refusing to compensate us. This man has no business dealing with public, let alone customers. Cleaning toilets should be above him. Emailed Venus , no response, whatsoever. Later asked to stay one more night and Venus overcharged me.
Photo is of vulgar manager.
Our only saving grace, was a young lady in reservations, she was fantastic and turned our trip around. Nearly all staff were awsome.
with the exception of these employees, who destroyed 2 days of our trip and clearly did not care .

It was our first time in Zihua/Ixtapa and we had a lovely time at this resort. If you're looking to be in the thick of either town, this resort is a ways from both but accessible by taxi. It is perfectly situated to enjoy Isla Ixtapa, Playa Linda, etc. When I booked, I saw that this was rated a 5-star hotel, I'd say it's solidly a 4-star hotel after our visit.
The good:
* amazing view from our room - we were on the 23rd floor right below the penthouse suites and the views were amazing. miss the gorgeous view and people watching. Initially, we were on a lower floor but I just asked if there was anything higher available - just ask nicely!
* the food - generally solid food at the specialty restaurants - italian, bambu asian fusion, the steakhouse BBQ, the oysteria and I thought the buffet options (especially lunch) were solid
* the service was generally great - we both speak a bit of Spanish and were able to converse with the team and they really appreciated the gesture and that maybe improved our services. special shout out to:
* Vale - server at the adult and infinity pool. he always had fast service, had good recommendations for restaurants and reservations and we loved hearing about his dogs!
* Tatiana - the captain at several of the specialty restaurants where we had reservations. Always ready with a smile and so friendly!
* Alberto - lunch buffet server
* Yair - lobby bar bartender with great drinks and the palomitas!
* Tono - served us at the buffet and at Bambu and remembered us
* Alejandro - infinity pool server, remembered my name and always asked how I was doing
* Alberto - infinity pool server, when my husband had a stomach ache, he was helpful in bringing over remedies and juices that would help
* Cinthia - omelet station chef at breakfast buffet. ALWAYS so friendly and happy to see us and her omelets were great
* Beatriz - hostess at the buffet - always so friendly and asking us how our day is
* Sughey - hostess at the buffet and some specialty restaurants - always super friendly
* Perla & Rosa - the medics. I had a medical event and they were so helpful
The not so good:
* limit to specialty restaurant reservations - this wasn't clear to us at check-in but even staying for 7 days, we were limited to only 3 official reservations during our stay. the restaurant may have availability during later dining times so you should politely inquire. I get the need for limits though, I can see some people booking them all up if allowed but there's gotta be a better way to manage this
* limited restaurant availability - la cevicheria is only open on saturdays for lunch and there's a fish of the day lunch on fridays. this should be clearer on days and reservation requirements. also, during our entire week stay, the mexican specialty restaurant wasn't open which was disappointing
* chair reserving - this was insane to see. it was less of an issue middle of the week but both weekends, even with us getting down by 8:30, most of the chairs were already "reserved" with towels. I saw one lady reserve 13 chairs, half of which were never occupied while I was at the pool. there should be better policing.
all that said, we had a great time and would come back for the views and service alone! thank you again for all the great service!

Prior to arriving at the hotel, I read some of the previous reviews and found that complaints raised by others were definitely not any part our experience. This is truly a First-Class hotel with amazing rooms with beautiful views. Our room well laid out and maintained daily to the best level I have seen in a long time. The bed was comfortable, pillows and linens were great. One day, our refrigerator had water under it and it was replaced immediately. We even got a new TV in our room while we were here but nothing seemed wrong with the old one. There were lots of electrical outlets in our room for charging. We were missing a few lightbulbs by the bed, but I simply moved one from the floor lamp to my bedside. There were two chairs on our balcony but no table which I wish there was. The shower was huge, had lots of water pressure, and plenty of hot water. Grounds are beautiful and impeccably kept, in fact the entire property is spotless with public washrooms well cared for. The adult pool is beautiful, clean, clear and comfortable with four jacuzzi tubs nearby. Pool service is great with no complaints.
We had the breakfast buffet every morning and our favorite waiter was Margarito who is exceptional. Then the main buffet restaurant closed and moved into two smaller venues the selection seems to diminish. There was sliced bread but no toaster. We did learn that you could ask your server for bacon which arrived crispy and not. At every meal we had to ask specifically for salt and pepper as it wasn’t available at the table.
We visited every available ala carte restaurant, including the two associated with the sister property next door; The Oyster Bar and Terrazzo. The Mexican restaurant was used as the nightly dinner buffet as the main one was closed for renovations. We never had an issue making dinner reservations and the ladies in the reservation office were wonderful, kind and helpful. The Oyster Bar was fabulous with great food and service. At the Terrazzo restaurant we felt welcomed and cherished. Staff was attentive without being intrusive. The food was good; however, the Columbus salad was bland, no avocado and the chicken overcooked. Dessert was excellent! The outdoor Parrillada Grill food was good and the Rib Eye steak delicious. There was little to no time between getting your salad from the salad bar and your and protein arriving. I would suggest that you send the guests to the salad bar before taking the protein order. At the Italian restaurant with Tomas was fabulous and he even let us keep the pepper grinder throughout our meal. The tableside Caesar salad, was a lovely touch to an elegant meal.
The Lobby bar opens at 4:00pm and is also the game center. Children under the age of 18 are suppose to vacate the area by 9:00 pm. Staff are friendly and they have the best mixed nuts to snack on with your beverage.
Yes, there were a lot of Spanish speaking guests, especially on the weekends. We found the hotel staff were wonderful and with a bit of patience of both sides we did not have a language barrier. We were always looking for change for tipping. While it was not required, we definitely wanted to acknowledge all the staff that helped make our vacation wonderful. Edgar and Luis at the front desk were always helpful and readily made change for me and printed next day schedule in English.
Overall, it was a wonderful holiday at a beautiful property with wonderful people.

Unfortunately I’m posting a negative review. If you look through the years I’ve posted 5* reviews but I’m terribly disappointed this year. This is our 5th trip to this resort and many families and couples have come to this resort because of our recommendations but we will never be back.
The absolute worst part was that they have a new policy, THAT THEY DID NOT INFORM US OF UNTIL CHECKOUT, that they cut off our wristbands when we checked out. We checked out and planned on having a bite to eat and another drink while we waited for our bus but they cut off our bands and wanted us to pay $45 USD / person to enjoy the end of our trip. Believe me the buffet was never worth $45 USD - let alone as our last meal there. My new policy is that I will never be back!
First the PROS …
- wait staff service is amazing at all the restaurants, lobby bar and pools (special shout out to Alexis but alllllll the wait staff were fantastic).
- rooms are beautiful, large, have an amazing view of the ocean and cleaning staff keep them sparkling.
- they have done a lot of maintenance to keep the resort looking great (new paint, re-doing the public bathrooms, etc).
Then the CONS …
- the buffet was terrible for any meal. Very limited dishes. A lot of fish meals - even for breakfast, as the lunch special twice and in most dishes. Fish ‘soup’ for breakfast and no bacon to be found. The resort was mostly local tourists now so wonder if the menu is more suited for them.
- no greeting upon arrival. One girl at the desk who told us she didn’t speak English and then told us she was sick as she coughed at us. (She did get us checked in and even changed our room to a King bed. We have asked each of 5 times for a King bed and this is the 1st time they let us have a King.)
- booking ala carte restaurants was a huge headache and took up more of our time standing in lineups than ever. They still only let you book 3 ala carte meals in a 7 day trip and you have to physically go stand in line at the booking office. First, they would only let us book from Thurs to Sat and they were fully booked except for 1 night. And told us we would have to come back on Sun to book the rest. But said they might be able to get us in if we came back to check before they closed each day. So we booked the one night and went back every other night but they could never get us in. Then we had to stand in line again on Sunday morning to book again.
- there were no shows or entertainment. They’ve had fire shows, mexican pole dancers, markets set up, etc in the past but nothing this time.
- they used to have live bands but every single single night was karaoke.
- resort offered activities used to include kayaking, sailing, snorkeling and bicycling. But now there is only bicycling and target practice.
- their beach has always been mostly inaccessible but they used to have a floating pier and we could easily go to Playa Quieta beach. Now they’ve locked the gate to get through to Playa Quieta and the pier is gone.
- the board walk to the Azul and Playa Linda is in terrible disrepair. I used to love walking along there.
- the bar under the waterfall was closed.
- the discotheque/coffee bar was destroyed and closed off.

Couldn’t say anything better about Azul Grand! The check in process was easy. The food places were all excellent even just the basic buffet was always so good. The rooms were made up clean always and sometimes cute animals were left with the towels. Everyone was so helpful with any questions. But the best of all was the service. Weather you were at one of the restaurants, in the pool, sun tanning, singing karaoke, playing pool, lounging, the wait staff was always there checking to see if u wanted anything else. Many times they would even bring our favorite drink to us without even asking. And it was always done with a smile.
Location: some people fuss about it being further away from the center of Ixtapa. But to us the location was perfect Because it was more relaxed and quiet. It’s also a short walk to the pier to get on the water taxi to go to Isla Ixtapa(which I highly recommend).
The beach: the beach on Azul Grand is small and a bit rocky HOWEVER literally right next door only 5’ min walk is Playa quieta which is a absolutely beautiful beach with perfect wave. We went over there many times!
The end: we definitely plan on going to Ixtapa/zihua again and when we do. You best believe we will be staying with Azul Ixtapa grand!

Almost didn’t book here because of the poor reviews of some. Have to say we did not experience anything negative. It was a wonderful and beautiful stay. The staff were all very welcoming and accommodating. The specialty restaurants were all delicious, especially the Mexican restaurant. We made our reservations early each morning after picking up coffee at the coffee shop and all was great! We were there for five nights and enjoyed it all. The check in was easy, our room was ready and was clean and comfortable. All the pools were very nice and the staff was great about keeping kids out of the adults only pool areas. All the bat and restaurant staff were great with friendliness and customer service. Would definitely return.

This was our first trip since the Covid-19 outbreak. We decided to go to the West Coast which made it our first time to Ixtapa & Azul Ixtapa Grand did not disappoint (10 days). Every room had a balcony with a view of the Ocean & Ixtapa Island. The room was very comfortable & included a jacuzzi tub. The cleaning staff were kind, left flowers & animals made out of towels, which was really appreciated. There were 3 pools (activity, infinity & adult only), spent time at all three. Enjoyed the infinity pool the best! There was always chairs to get by the pools. The hotel was very clean & respected the COVID 19 protocols of mask use in all indoor areas, social distancing, hand sanitizing & temp checks when entering buffet & a la cartes. We felt very safe staying here. The staff was exceptional. A big shout out to Viridiana Conde - restaurant captain who made us feel welcomed, important and was always accommodating!! The fresh fish fry on the beach on Fridays were tasty & something you should take in while there - you will not be disappointed! The staff around the pool & at the buffet or a la carte were friendly, accommodating & well deserving of tips… Note: the hotel will exchange Canadian $ to Mexican pesos. The wifi worked both in the room & at the pools. Walking distance to Playa Linda where you can shop, see the crocodiles & take a water taxi to Ixtapa Island. Hop on the bus to visit Ixtapa and visit “The General” if you are a sports buff (enjoyed a Calgary Flames game). This resort - Azul Ixtapa Grand - in Ixtapa is a hide gem & we will definitely return! Thanks staff for an enjoyable vacation😎🌴

Visited with my fiancée before Easter weekend to avoid the local crowds. Most of the hotel felt empty or just right. The all-inclusive options are on par with another resort I previously visited in the area. The drinks didn’t feel watered down and the food options were ok. We were only able to schedule one “a la carte” restaurant for the night after check-in. They should probably reserve some spots for the people checking in same day since check-in is at 3 PM.
The bar at the pool under the water fall is only open during weekends from what we noticed. We saw about three servers covering the pool we mostly used. The “adult pool” was pretty boring since it was mostly older crowd and one server covering it. The “activities pool” was crowded with kids and people playing volleyball. The general pool has the bar and waterfall with salt water, not sure on the other pools.
We also used the gym. The weights and machine section was nice enough to stay active. My fiancée stayed for the indoor cycling (spinning) class and she really enjoyed it. The cardio machines were restricted due to C19 guidelines still.
Overall the resort offered great amenities and decent for the all-inclusive package.
We really loved the in-room sauna and hot tub.
