They provide everything you need, from laundry services to haircuts, and they can even organize whale shark diving if you're looking for that experience 🤍 The chef did an amazing job every day, serving the best lobster I've ever eaten. Dinner on the beach, watching the sunsets, beautiful tents, a great spa - everything was so carefully managed. Can't wait to come back!"

You know you've found somewhere special when you really don't want to leave. Especially when it comes to saying goodbye to the people who had taken such good care of you. On departure day, the staff of Amanwana stood on the jetty waving goodbye to us as we caught the resort's boat to the city of Sumbawa Besar, about 45 minutes away on Sumbawa island in eastern Indonesia. The staff at the resort, like the staff at every other Aman resort we've stayed, really do their best to look after you and anticipate your needs while not being intrusive. It's a delicate balance but one that Aman does well and it's much appreciated when you arrived stressed from work and in dire need of unwinding to renew yourself. Amanwana is special for other reasons. In particular because it is the only resort on remote Moyo island. There's no Bali-style tourism development here, just local villages and large areas of forest -- and a remote and beautiful waterfall named after Princess Diana, who visited in the early 1990s and stayed at the then newly opened resort. Amanwana is designed for people who just want to get away from busy lives and relax. Accommodation is large tented rooms with all the usual amenities. All are close to the beach and crystal clear calm water and a large coral reef right out in front to explore. There is an abundance of fish, as well as turtles and black-tipped reef sharks. However, while the resort's beach is kept clean, plastic pollution is an issue in the area, as it is in most parts of Indonesia. We stayed 4 nights after flying from Singapore to Bali, staying overnight there and then on to Sumbawa Besar via Lombok the next morning to catch the boat across to the resort. It takes a bit of effort to get to Amanwana but it's worth it. We did trekking, a sunset cruise to see the sun setting behind Mount Rinjani on Lombok (an incredible sight), a safari trip to the waterfall and visited a remote bat cave. At every step, hotel manager Faisal Lubis looked after us. He loves his job and clearly enjoys looking after his guests. He was our snorkelling guide and he escorted us on the sunset cruise. And he helped organise fabulous meals. This is one of the biggest highlights of Amanwana. Head Chef Pak Ikrom and his team created heavenly food, from local dishes to western staples, such as tuna pizza. Pak Ikrom's team try to cater to everyone's requests and the menu changes daily. And he always comes out to greet guests to make sure everything is in order. We got to know many of the staff who are always happy to chat and to share stories of their culture -- many are from Bima in eastern Sumbawa. We'd like to also thank Ibu Fiah, Pak Eka, Pak Robert, Pak Sidik as well as Oby, Heru, Haer, Busran, Susan and Aril. We are very much looking forward to returning and visiting the wonderful Amanwana family again.

We stayed with the full board package all inclusive including the food and activities. So far, I can say this is the best Aman resort in Indonesia. I was surprised with their food taste and quality since the resort is located on the remote area. The staffs are super attentive and the location itself is so beautiful! The only downside is the weather since we stay in the raining season of November. I think if you stay on dry season, it will be amazing. The other thing that I want to highlight is the snorkling experience which can make you swim for hours to enjoy it.

Absolute paradise! Moyo island & Amanwana were the best part of our month long holiday in Indonesia. The snorkeling was unbelievable and there were so many other things to see & do on such a small island as well as just relax. The accommodation was luxurious & rustic. Can't beat waking up to an ocean view and falling asleep to the sound of waves. We felt so welcome by everyone & were even treated to a wine tasting and dinner with Robyn & Matt (general managers). They also created a personal menu for our dietary needs & it was some of the best food we had in Indonesia. We don't know if we can stay in any other place other than an Aman now! Say hi to Salma for us 🥰

My husband and I have just returned from 4 nights at Amanwana, it is a very peaceful resort and probably the most laidback/relaxed of all the Amans I've visited. The staff are lovely, very friendly and sweet, the GM is great too! For such a remote place the food was surprisingly excellent! So good in fact we asked the head chef to send us some recipes. Must try: soto ayam, banana pancakes for breakfast and the strawberry ice-cream - yum! I was a little disappointed though with snorkelling and diving, the coral is average, not colourful and quite damaged in some areas. We did see a lot of fish, black tip reef sharks, different kinds of star fish, a turtle, a sea snake, lobsters, squids etc. I highly recommend visiting Barry's Falls - a beautiful waterfall with big clear swimming holes. Also the sunset cruise and fishing, we caught a few small fish which the chef made into a curry for us! Plus if calm paddle boarding at sunset out to Crocodile Head (don't worry no crocodiles anywhere). But having stayed at around 7 Amans, I must say this was not one of my favourites, when you're paying so much you do expect a bit more. Not a big deal but dirty glasses were left in our room after the room was made up, wilted flowers left in our room a little too long and when we did a private beach drop off they forgot to give us cutlery so we couldn't eat half the picnic, but they did remember and brought it 2 hours later. The resort could do with a small refurb too.

....and are plotting when to return! we’ve stayed in 9 or so amans and this one is absolutely one of our favorites. yes, you’re basically ‘glamping,’ but that’s the charm of this particular aman in this particularly magical location. imagine out-of-this-world sunsets every evening, thousands of stars at night, and the kindest staff who truly became like family to us by the end of our week-long stay. the staff at this location absolutely made it, as well as the extremely unique location (and that’s saying a lot for an aman). we hope to see the exact same staff when we return in the coming years. the only note is that we too did not get the seaplane, and it’s sounding a bit like a recurring theme. arriving by seaplane would make it even more special—hopefully they can ensure that most guests get use of the seaplane unless there’s inclement weather. in our case we were told it was ‘being repaired’ which is too bad. but oh amanwana, what a special place you have in our hearts!

We decided to stay at the Aman Resorts for our honeymoon following rave reviews from friends who stayed at the Amanzoe in Greece. We spent 3 nights at the Amandari and had planned to stay at the Amanwana for another 3 nights. That didn’t happen... Getting to the Amanwana is not that easy and runs expensive. There are two options to get there. First is by sea plane and there’s only one flight per day at around 11 am. Costs about USD 450. Second option is commercial flight (which you book) and then 45 minute boat ride. We had booked the Amanwana and sea plane in advance. Right before we left, the sea plane option was cancelled due to technical issues. Fine, so we would take the boat option which required longer travel time. The night before we were supposed to arrive we were informed that the other option was cancelled as well due to technical issues. Instead, they would send us to the Amankila which was at another part of Bali also by the ocean. We weren’t very happy with how the situation was handled. First, we had to follow up multiple times asking when the flight to Amanwana was, and up until 9pm the night before we weren’t given a definitive answer. The staff at Amandari told us they are still waiting to hear from the Amanwana. We were informed that night that we wouldn’t be going to the Amanwana. We would go to the Amankila which was fine but they offered us a package that didn’t add up to what we had originally paid, let alone all the hassle we had to deal with. It took a lot of arm twisting and an entire night of phone calls and nasty language to get what we deserve. It worked out fine in the end but just more headache than we would have liked. Marc, the GM, was helpful and professional about it the whole time. We unfortunately missed the opportunity to stay at this property this time around but would love to check it out in the future if all the stars align. My only caution to all visitors is to make sure you can actually get there (even with advance booking) and don’t get shortchanged if you have to take another alternative because you can’t get there!

Our visit to Amanwana started with a private seaplane trip of about an hour flying over some of the most beautiful ocean and island topography. The plane landed in the bay just in front of Amanwana. A small motor boat met the plane and brought us and our luggage ashore where we were greeted by the hotel staff on the dock. Amanwana is very remote and each of the suites is “tent” which is with a hardwood floor, knee-high concrete wall and surrounded on three sides by windows which provide full and spectacular views of the sea, nearly islands and sunsets. Oh and it’s a good place to watch the local island monkeys. There is a full private toilet, shower and 2 sinks for the bath facility in each room. This property also includes a full time live in medical person in the event of any illness or injuries, they can attend to those needs which was comforting to know and we did need their services during our stay so I can say the service and expertise was excellent even in the middle of the night. Because of the volcano eruption which happened when we were there in NOV 2017, DPS (Denpasar airport) was closed. Amanwana went to extraordinary measures to see that we could ultimately make our way back to Jakarta. They truly went above and beyond in this regard and we remain ever grateful for their kind assistance. I should also add that there are full spa services, diving experiences with a professional dive instructor on staff, snorkeling, and swimming, and a trek to a remote waterfall and lagoon high in the island mountain. All in all a superb property that you should not miss.

Firstly I can’t say I arrived on the island and was blown away . It’s not the prettiest or lushest setting. It’s also very different to Amanpulo - so do not go here thinking you are in for the same experience . The area you are in is much much smaller . Your tent is near your neighbours so it will not always be private or quiet . The whole resort need a bit of an upgrade And I hear this is due in December . The tents are large and well laid out but tatty in places and some towels had permanent marks on them. There is one dining area which doubles as the lounge area too . All the menus are large and cover all tastes and allergies. They do make the best ice creams and sorbets and incredible almond pancakes ! Service was slow and sometimes you waited forever to get a order even though the resort was less than half full. The alcohol is expensive but I guess that how it always is. Do try and get a massage as they were very good . There is no pool but a smalll natural pool on the one side of the property . The coral is badly damaged and there is very little live coral to see . Snorkelling is good and the far left hand side snorkelling off the jetty is best . From mid morning onwards you can’t swim out from your room as the tide is very low and so you will encounter the reef . It’s best for swimming on the left side of the property and once you are pit you can swim across to your right . Stand Up paddle boards and kayaks are in poor repair . You can borrow snorkels and fins and a mask . My husband did two dives every day and said the crew was amazing but there was not lots to see . The deer roam freely around the tents but beware the monkeys as they will hound you if you are carrying any food . Don’t feed them . You can do some walks from the resort but I must say I found lots of litter which really should have been cleared up by the staff or they need to bins along the walk. The resort certainly grew on us and it was perfect for resting and reading and swimming and good food and solitude.

We pulled up to the dinghy dock at Amanwana during a recent cruise around Moyo Island and were disappointed to be told we were not allowed to come ashore and have a meal. We had to pay 50 USD to tie the dinghy up. Last year we were welcomed. We had lunch and drink. This year, very unfriendly. If you are a passing cruising yacht a more friendly option is to visit Sunset Moyo. The food and view there is fabulous.

We stayed at Amanwana for 5 nights in July 2018. The place is out of this world - from the moment you arrive you feel that you are somewhere that you will struggle to match in the future. I have never been somewhere so peaceful and stunningly beautiful. The resort itself is fantastic with lovely grounds and a fantastic beach setting - the snorkelling even from the beach is wonderful. The diving is great too, and there are many other activities that are available. The staff are wonderfully friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. What I loved most about it was how peaceful it was - it was just silent in the evening and the sunset is just amazing. If I had one piece of constructive criticism it would be that there are things about the service that could be addressed - considering the cost this sometimes fell slightly short of what we would have expected. But this is a small concern against how truly wonderful this place is - I doubt I will stay anywhere like it again.
