We spent 3 tremendous days/evenings at the Amantaka in January '25 while visiting Luang Prabang. From the moment of arrival, we recognized that everything about the Amantaka -- from the warm and inviting staff to facilities -- was exceptional. And our suite was without doubt as gracious and beautiful as we've ever experienced during our travels worldwide -- architecturally stunning, including foyer, delightful vaulted sitting room with desk, charming bedroom, very ample closet space with dual armoires, and sumptuous bath with dual vanities, private water closet, tub and shower...and access to our own rear walled terrace with private pool (there is a shared public pool as well). One significant added appeal of the Amantaka is its lovely proximity to Luang Prabang's night market, primary commercial streets, and the bars along the Mekong. This is truly a great property and superb location. And the staff is among the finest we've ever experienced. Loved our stay!

Amantaka is an extremely beautiful hotel designed and built according to traditional Laotian architecture. Service is the best as typical in all Aman resorts. The pool was a relaxing space after a day of walking tour. I thought monsoon seson would have been terrible and instead it was pleasant in a unique way. The garden was green and lush. I am not giving 5 star not because of the hotel but because Luang Prabang is quickly loosing its identity and this is reflected everywhere in the small town including hotels, cafes and restaurants. Speed trains are bringing the worse overtourism into Laos and you feel that the traditional charm of the past is destined to disappear. Seeing the alm ceremony with hundreds of tourists taking photos up to the face of the monks and calling each other loud was just a sad tragic nightmare. I hope for the sake of the future of Luang Prabang the municipality and all the hotels and tourist venues will do somthing to not suffocate Luang Prabang and preserve its fragile beauty.

Stunning setting and service
Close to the bustle of the small city but a serene oasis where nothing is too much trouble . The grounds and buildings of the former French hospital have been transformed but retain their heritage . The pool is a lovely centre piece and at night is transformed with lanterns...
Close to the bustle of the small city but a serene oasis where nothing is too much trouble . The grounds and buildings of the former French hospital have been transformed but retain their heritage . The pool is a lovely centre piece and at night is transformed with lanterns to a beautiful terrace setting for dinner . Suites are large , and blend teak with modern materials to offer comfort , style and cool retreats with large bath and shower spaces , comfortable bed , sitting areas indoors and loungers outside . The food is extremely good with dinner menus changing daily and offering perfect Loo choices or excellent western options . Prices are of course steep but with packages for offer of breakfast and another daily meal choice as well as spa massage they feel much better. The gym is well equipped but it might be time to import some newer cardio options . Aman offer excursions including a city tour included in the package , but perfectly safe and well guided alternatives can be bought in the town at a huge saving - why wouldn’t you ? This might be my only real criticism - we visited and elephant sanctuary privately saving hundreds of dollars

From the check in to our departure, the service, grounds, room and food were among the best we’ve ever had in our travels all around the world. The room had a private pool, very comfortable 4 poster bed, lots of space and storage, a separate sitting room and every amenity you’d want. The staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating without being fussy or subservient. Fantastic food for breakfast, lunch and dinner- all of which we had on different days in Luang Prabang. The grounds just ooze beauty and calm. And… best of all, it’s in a quiet area but just a short walk from the main streets and markets. We love the Laotian people and the magic of Luang Prabang.

It doesn’t get better than Amantaka. Set amongst a series of colonial era buildings surrounding a massive garden, the hotel is perfection. Our suite was impeccable, full of easy style, spotless, and supremely comfortable. The kind of room you take pictures of thinking you should build one back home. The spa - based around a bathhouse with hot and cold soaking tubs, steam room and sauna, was perfection after a long day of exploring. And make sure to explore - not just the UNESCO town but further afield - along the Mekong and spend the day with elephants to name two. The hotel organized activities for each day, and each was flawless and without stress. “No rush,” I heard again and again. The food is also excellent, with tables set around the pool each night and the entire garden lit with candles. Magical. Now, for that staff. From the excellent GM new from Bhutan, on down, they are charming and kind and efficient. It was my birthday over our stay, and I must’ve been wished so by 100 staff. Yes, it is expensive. But if you can afford it, DO. It is one of those rare jewels.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at Amantaka in December this year. The whole city has just bounced back from the pandemic so I had a little expectation when coming to Luang Prabang this year. However, everything at the resort was exceptional, from the moment we were greeted at the airport, to when we were warmly greeted by the members of staff as we arrive at the moment, and when we left the resort. The property was converted from a historic building but was very well maintained. It has a classic and subtle charm and feels very cosy and intimate. Don't forget to use the Bath House that with a private pool, steamed room and sauna. Thank you Amantaka team for exceptional hospitality and I will be back again!

I haven’t posted since I started traveling again in 2021 but I have to mention our visit to Amantaka. We was surprised, delighted and thankful to experience the Aman of old. The management and staff have kept alive the values on which Aman was built. They paid attention to every detail and anticipated our every need. They take time to get to know their guests. We have made new friends. Thank you Tshewang Norbu for making us feel welcome, special and at home.

We enjoyed three nights at Amantaka towards the start of our SE Asia trip. The property itself is a former hospital that has been carefully renovated into a superb, colonial style hotel. The rooms are superbly appointed and we enjoyed the privacy of our own terrace and sizeable plunge pool. Some may say the lack of a TV in the rooms is a disadvantage, but we find that to be a nice feature! The housekeeping is impeccable - it feels like (literally) every time you step out of your room, someone has been in to clean and tidy it ..... and we never once saw any of the housekeeping team. It was like a stealth operation! The food was excellent - thanks to Paul the F&B manager and his team for looking after us so well. Lath 1 (private joke!) really entertained us during meals! The spa was brilliant (one of the top 5 massages of all time) and the gym had enough equipment for a good work out. We would definitely recommend the property and will return should we ever find ourselves in Luang Prabang in the future. This is a very good advocate for Aman properties - they will definitely be top of our agenda on future trips.
