Our stay at Amankila was truly unforgettable. This was our 6th Aman property stay, and while each one is unique, Amankila just might be our favorite of them all. The architecture of the resort is breathtaking—perched above the ocean, offering dramatic views no matter where you are. The blend of...
Our stay at Amankila was truly unforgettable. This was our 6th Aman property stay, and while each one is unique, Amankila just might be our favorite of them all.
The architecture of the resort is breathtaking—perched above the ocean, offering dramatic views no matter where you are. The blend of traditional Balinese design with modern amenities made our room particularly special. We had our own private infinity pool overlooking the ocean, which provided a secluded escape. Not like we needed it -- even the public spaces and main pools at Amankila still feel like your own private paradise.
One of the highlights for us was getting massages on the terrace of our room. I had the nourishing massage, while my husband opted for the grounding massage. Both were phenomenal, and having them in such a peaceful setting made the experience even more special.
The staff at Amankila was exceptional. Their warmth and high-touch service made us feel truly cared for throughout our stay, without being overbearing. A special shout-out to the chef—we loved the food so much that when we commented on a few dishes, he graciously printed the recipes, which we’ve already tried at home. So thoughtful!
The resort strikes a perfect blend of luxury and seclusion. If you’re considering Amankila, just go—you won’t regret it!

Mesmerized in the Jungle !
What a serene and calm environment ! Truly felt immersed in the culture and jungle with impeccable attention to detail and absolute serenity. Every detail (as most Aman properties) was thought of well in advance. Jungle sunset cocktail is highly suggested.

Our stay at Amankila in Bali was great. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and the feeling of being 'home' again, despite never having visited this particular Aman. We booked a Garden suite but were upgraded to an Ocean suite. It's not over-the-top luxurious, but the design is timeless and works well. But I feel like the in-room amenities could be better, seamlessly blending new technology into the overall service experience. Aman is conservative though, so I doubt we'll see that anytime soon.
I'm a big fan of architect Ed Tuttle and in particular the work at Amanpuri. This one is maybe a little impersonal with all the stone and big pools, I think the 'grandeur' of the property could have been toned down a little bit. It's hard to not like the Balinese decor and the private terrace overlooking the sea, where I could unwind and soak in the serene atmosphere.
Service is as expected at an Aman; just great. Location; so-so, far from everything, but not remote. Value for money could have been better, but it seems like all Amans have increased in price in the last couple of years.

Amankila is set in a beautiful location. To be here is relaxing, quiet and almost zen-like. Our ocean view room was as it should be in this type of establishment but don’t expect a TV and you find almost immediately that there is more need to disconnect to enjoy your holiday, but if you must the wifi is super fast! Each morning we would step out of our room and onto the expansive private veranda and drink in the site. Beautiful butterflies and small sweeping birds are almost escorting you down to the restaurant for breakfast.
The swimming pools are beautifully laid out and there is even an Olympic sized swimming pool by the beach club steps to the beach.
From lazy lunch dining by the beach to dinner in the main restaurant the food served and service from start to finish was first class.
Yes getting here from the airport is 1.5 hours but on your drive you get to see the local life going about its day and then you enter the manicured grounds and at that point you switch off and you are in a different world of relaxation and it’s perfect! Thank you for such hospitality!

After pouring over reviews of Bali’s top hotels for months, we’re incredibly happy we decided to stay at Amankila. The grounds are truly breathtaking (not a leaf out of place during our visit). The villas are excellently designed and have an authenticity not available at brand new resorts. The food was very good overall and we found the variety to be solid. But the biggest highlight was the service. From the moment we were picked up by an Amankila driver to the moment we were dropped off at the airport, the service was amazing — anticipating our needs before we even realized them in a subtly, unobtrusive way. The beach and housekeeping staff in particular should be commended for going the extra mile.
A few things to note:
The pictures are absolutely accurate. What you see is what you get — in all the best ways. That iconic three-tiered pool is a showstopper, but so are the beach club, restaurants, and hidden corners all over the gorgeous property.
The beach was pristine during our visit, a testament to the staff cleaning it each day. The beach cabanas were the perfect spot to spend the afternoon!
Other reviewers have been critical of the container ships waiting to enter port. Bali isn’t a private island so some slack needs to be given. We actually viewed the ships as entertainment by counting them each day, noting which had left, etc. It’s all how you view any situation and we chose to approach it with a positive light.
The villas are gorgeous and massive. They’re well maintained and we could not fault them. We had the privilege of staying in a pool villa and infinity pool villa. We actually preferred the greater privacy of the pool villa. It was incredible to dine next to our private pool. And it was especially magical coming “home” after dinner in the restaurants to see a few candles placed around the pool! Again, the staff makes memories at every turn.
For experiences, we didn’t venture off property here as we’d been touring Bali for two weeks. However we did book a private poolside dinner and massages. Both experiences were very good. The thing to note is that we wish we’d have reached out earlier to book a private beach dinner as it wasn’t available during our stay. This is one area where staff could actually be more proactive in advance.
Overall, Amankila and it’s staff lived up to our very high expectations and — now that we’re home — we are dreaming of our days spent at Bali’s “peaceful hill.”

My partner has previously stayed at Amankila on a solo visit to Bali and had raved on about how wonderful it was. He was a little bit concerned that after talking it up so highly, that it wouldn't live up to expectations on our visit together. There was no need for that concern!
The resort is simply stunning. The three tier pool with the ocean view was beautiful. Okay so there were a few oil tankers in the ocean, but that didn't mar our enjoyment.
The service is second to none. Every time we left our suite, whether it be to visit the restaurant, or the pools or beach, our suite would be serviced with fresh ice supplied each time. The room was even serviced in the morning on the day we checked out.
The biggest asset though are the staff. Always attentive with excellent service. We chatted with the staff and several of them told us that they have been with Amankila for over 30 years, and others over 20 years. It's a testament that not only does this brand look after its guests so wonderfully, but also their staff as well.

What a beautiful property in a peaceful setting. I loved reading a book as I stood in one of the three tiers of the swimming pool. There are several cabanas that provide great shade. The black sand beach was awesome! There are numerous cabanas down there as well and staff to help with your every need including help with boogie boards, kayaks and paddle boards. The ocean was quite calm in the am so we took advantage of a kayak and paddle board. It was lovely until we ate it coming back in with the surf. But we laughed it off and were thankful for the help of the staff.
Speaking of staff, they were all so amazing. Friendly, polite and paid such attention to detail. The rooms were freshened up a couple of times a day. Added little bonus was a sweet gift on our bed each night.
The food was yummy and we especially enjoyed the complimentary bfast. Balinese dance production one evening was fun.
Enjoyed a three hour East Bali tour. Highly recommend going to Tirta Gangga. It was so beautiful!
We had a wonderful stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

We went on our honeymoon and would not recommend. The experience was sub par at best. When we arrived at the hotel, the hotel was cleaning up from a wedding the night prior, and the lunch service took 45 minutes to receive our food at the bar area as a result - not to mention we were told by various different staff members conflicting information about which restaurants were even open during the lunch hour, and were told to go to two different places before learning the bar was the only place to get food.
Later that night at dinner at the restaurant at the top tier, the calamari was inedible as it was cooked in (what we believe) was palm oil which, even after only one bite, left a lingering taste in the back of our throats throughout dinner.
The fact that there was no music at any of the restaurants or at the pool at any time throughout the day or evening was eerily uncomfortable as well. Even though the hotel has been open for 30 years and the staff was certainly very friendly, it seemed like they’d never run a hotel before. For an Aman hotel, I expected much more from the 3 day stay, especially given the price of the hotel.

My 3rd Aman property after a long spell. Expectations were sky high due to the price and reputation. In many ways the expectations were met but perhaps it’s so high, it is inevitable that it fell short in certain areas. I booked the Ocean View Villa which had a really nice side view of the ocean. The Villa itself was honestly average by today’s standards. It may have set the bar 31 years ago but now, there are many large pool villas at a much lower price point. It was very well maintained. The common areas more than made up for this though. The Iconic 3 tier pool, a private beach and a very large beach pool, with plenty of space and limited number of clients made the luxury of space the highlight of the stay. Food was honestly average and expectedly pricy. Wine is obscenely priced. Service is of course very good all around. There was another point which I brought up to management but not appropriate to be written here for privacy reasons. All in, we had a wonderful stay and will be back or book another Aman property. That is the ultimate litmus test I guess.

We went to Bali a few days early before a cruise and I wanted a place to recover from jet lag. I picked Amankila and was impressed with the gorgeous room, gracious service and spectacular hillside setting. Our room was spotlessly clean and private; it included a pool and an ocean view. Yes, there were some tankers in the ocean but still it was quite pretty. The staff was genuinely helpful and intuitive; there were many little touches that made our stay special and relaxing. It was such a pleasure to be spoiled. I would recommend the market tour and cooking class with Jati (he is a force of nature) and the tour of East Bali. Both were very enjoyable and interesting.
