In a city that is steeped with history and bursting with culture, 17Hundred90 Inn stands out as one of the most historic honeymoon destinations of them all. Both the inn and guest house date back to the 19th century, with the structures originally serving as private residences before they were transformed into the magical, romantic oasis that they are today. And it’s not just the amenities that offer a taste of historic Savannah, as the attentive staff is committed to upholding the values instilled by the city’s founders, who believed in making a genuine connection and fulfilling needs before they arise.
Honeymooning couples will get to decide between the two sections of the property, the Main Inn and three Guest Houses. The two-floor inn features fourteen rooms that each have a four-post bed, private shower, and gas log fireplace. The vibe is certainly reminiscent of classic England, with a few of the rooms offering a true 18th-century experience with curtained beds that are the pinnacle of romance and luxury. The guesthouses right across the street from the Main Inn are just as luxurious, with available hand-painted ceilings, original 19th-century murals, spa tubs, and great views of York Street.
Beyond the lovely rooms and luxurious amenities, the signature of a 17Hundred90 honeymoon is the dining and drink options. Foodies will be forgiven for thinking that they have gone to heaven on account of a carefully-curated menu of the finest steaks, lamb, chicken, and seafood. Cranberry stuffed pork, salmon Oscar, black ‘n’ blue New York Strip, and Boursin chicken merely scratch the surface of the available entrees. Then there are the fine wines, complex cocktails, and handcrafted desserts, all of which perfectly round out the experience.
A 17Hundred90 honeymoon can best be described through the inn’s 1923 Buick Touring Car that is often parked out front. The car, like the inn, has been expertly maintained over the course of a century, is graceful in its grandeur and sophistication, and instantly transports you to a bygone era. For a romantic honeymoon that beautifully cherishes the past, you and your loved one simply can’t go wrong with this Savannah gem.

This was our first time staying at the 1790. Upon check in the young girl working the desk was super friendly and cheerful. Our room was very spacious and just as advertised on the internet. Other than that there is really good to say about our stay. We checked in Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and were told that no one would be manning the desk on Thanksgiving day which was fine. We showered on Thursday and only had lukewarm water in the shower and since was our first time staying there we were not sure if this was normal or not since this is an older place. No big deal, short shower and go on about our day. On Friday morning we had NO hot water at all. Ice cold, so no shower at all for us. Since the staff does not come in until 10AM and we were leaving early that morning we did not have the chance to report the water issue. On our way home, we did call just to let them know before someone else had checked into that room and had the same issues as we did. We were told that there was nothing that they could do or refund us any $ because it was OUR fault that we did not let them know before we checked out.....Well maybe if they had staff there before 10AM we would have done that. The lady that my husband spoke to was very dismissive and rude. She should not be in customer service. We will not be staying with the 1790 again due to the lack of empathy or customer service. Such a shame. Thumbs down for this establishment.

Grumpy (as mentioned in other reviews) is knowledgeable, friendly and answered any queries we had. Scott in the main bar was also very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that we couldn’t have stayed longer!

We stayed in Room 204 “Anna’s Room” for 3 nights. The room is up 2 flights of stairs and there is no elevator. The room was very cozy and quiet. Anna made her presence known to us by moving a hand towel I had on the sink into the cabinet underneath the sink and she placed another hand towel in my suitcase underneath clothes that I hadn’t even touched or moved since we got there. There are 2 other ghosts that haunt this motel other than Anna…Thaddeus who leaves dimes lying in the restaurant and tavern, and another ghost that haunts the kitchen. There is a courtyard out back for smokers and it’s really nice to just sit out there and talk to other patrons and employees. The staff is wonderful and can give you information on anything in the historic district. They are very helpful. There is parking in the back and parking is $15 a night which is cheap compared to the other motels. The restaurant is also wonderful and they give you a free drink voucher with your stay. We did make reservations for dinner the last night. We will definitely stay here again each time we come to Savannah.

My girlfriend and I stayed at 17Hundred90 for a long weekend in Savannah. It was reasonably priced compared to some of the other hotels in the Historic North District and also had a charm to it that modern hotels don't offer. We were given a complimentary pass for 2 drinks from the bar o the ground floor, which was very kind of them. We enjoyed the drinks after getting settled in our room and we ate at their restaurant, also on the ground floor, later that night. The menu is not large but the food was excellent! We stayed in Room 101, which was quaint but not overly gaudy. It was equipped with a decent SmartTV, a dorm fridge and a small coffee maker. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom sufficed for our needs. We didn't experience anything paranormal during our stay; it was quiet and relaxing when we retired for the night. Note that the "1xx" rooms are actually on the second floor and require stairs to access. "2xx" rooms are on the third floor and are accessible by stairs inside the building once you get inside. The location makes it very easy to walk to nearby eateries or the waterfront. Broughton and Congress Streets have lots of shops and music venues, as well as a few blocks further away at the waterfront. You could probably stay a little closer to the "action" but there's a price to pay for that! So, for the cost, the 1790 is a great location. The inn has somewhat limited and tight parking at the rear of their property. We paid $15/day but I believe you'd have to pay for parking about anywhere else, whether at a garage on the street, so it's not a big expense. It was convenient having our car nearby, although we didn't use it from the time we arrived to the time we left! ALL of the staff were absolutely fantastic! Very warm and receiving and quite helpful with a couple of our requests. Note that their Main Desk is only open from 10AM-10PM, so outside of those hours, you're sort of on your own. Also note that you are supplied with a key to enter the building and one for your room, so it's very important to not lose those if you are going to be leaving and coming into the building after 10PM or before 10AM! If you are looking for a fairly-priced, quaint and accessible location (which may include some other guests!), in Savannah, I would definitely recommend the 1790!

I wish I could give this place a five. I love the house, and it’s located in a quiet, convenient location. My partner and I were given free drink vouchers. But all that couldn’t excuse the lack of cleanliness issue. The first thing I noticed when I entered the room was that the bathroom floor tiles and baseboards were filthy. Interestingly, an empty envelope had been left along with instructions for giving the cleaner a tip if you so desired. From this, I assumed that we would have a daily room clean at this hotel. I was wrong. we weren’t even provided with extra towels. Had to request them two days later. At the end of the stay my partner read the fine print on a piece of paper left for us, which said, and I kid you not, that due to social distancing there is no room cleaning. Social distancing! I promise you, nobody in this hotel cares about COVID-19. Nobody wears masks or stands back from customers. And as for social distancing, nobody is even in the room when the cleaner goes at it, so even if this was 2020, it wouldn’t make sense. But I’m sure it’s a great way to save money. 😖

We stayed in room 204 for 3 nights. The first night we went to dinner at the restaurant. As we descended the stairs there was a ghost tour going on that mentioned our room 204. My husband and I exchanged glances and smiled as we passed by them- that really made my night. I booked this room for that reason and although we didn’t experience any activity, we still had a great time. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the ice machine was not operational during our stay. However there was a refrigerator in the room which I wasn’t expecting so that was a bonus.

This review is only for the restaurant. Full disclosure first. Had it not been for issues with my wife's allergies this would have been a total five star review. Unfortunately, the way this issue was handled was less than satisfactory. My wife has an allergy to soy. Soy finds its way into almost everything so we have to be very careful. Most high end restaurant’s do not have an issue with this as they use higher quality ingredient's especially the cooking oils (the fryer excluded). Although they were able to accommodate my wife for her entree, shrimp and grits which was excellent, she could not have any of the appetizers, breads, or desserts. This was, to say the least, a major disappointment. Now I did call ahead to make sure we could be accommodated and was told we could. The hostess even recognized our name and the allergy when we arrived which I thought was pretty awesome. But it all turned sour after our server told my wife that all she could have was meat. My wife doesn’t eat meat. We realize now that we should have asked for the hostess and/or a manger but we decided to stay because of the ambiance, which was amazing, and Chris, the awesome piano player. My meal, the pork chop was wonderful. On the way out we brought this up to the hostess who said the issue was a recent change to a different food distributor. Funny, our server said nothing about this and indicated that this is just the way things were. Either way, it might have helped to know this from the start. So to finish up, if you do not have any allergies, go, enjoy and say hello to Chris for me. If you do have any allergies, beware. You might be severely disappointed.

Following Google Maps, we pulled into the parking lot behind the 17hundred90 Inn and Restaurant. A fellow came up, introduced himself as Grumpy, the property handyman. His T-shirt said ‘ if you see me, you broke something’. This set the tone for his walking us through our checkin procedure. Great dry wit. He took us in the main building- absolutely gorgeous, very old. More Southern Charm as a lovely woman checked us in then Grumpy explained we were in one of their guest houses kitty corner to the main inn. Four parking spots there. Met us there then showed us around our room. 315 is on the ground floor off the lane. No steps to navigate. Helping us unload the car he said “in the South, ladies don’t carry luggage”. I like this! This guest house was built in 1856 and our room, although modernized, still retained the old features including beamed ceilings and old stone fireplace. King sized bed, updated bathroom with double sinks and large walk-in shower, separate little room off the bedroom with comfy sofa, mini refrigerator and coffee maker. All so much nicer than your run of the mill hotel. Staying in Historic downtown meant easy walking everywhere. To the visitor centre to catch the Old Town Trolley tour, to Forsythe Park, the riverfront, Prohibition Museum and City Market, great restaurants and shops, and of course all while passing through the beautiful heavily treed squares and past amazing historic homes. As Grumpy said “Savannah is very walkable, it’s not very parkable”. What a wonderful place to stay.

Disappointing customer service.
Unable to cancel reservations 4 days prior to stay and get any refund. Parking spots all taken. Had to park a block away, on the street, for 2 nights. Getting luggage down narrow steps was not easy. Disappointing overall.

First off THANK YOU to Barbara at the head desk. You were so pleasant and offered great advise. We stayed in Room 204 (Anna’s room) and it was quiet and comfortable. The Inn is located in a perfect spot, we parked and walked. It is a short walk to Bay & River Streets where all the fun action is. So much history to learn also. I would highly recommend staying at this Inn.

We Uber-ed from the airport and walked the entire stay, this inn is in the middle of all the action. Our suite was very large and comfortable, the bed and linens were wonderful. This is a historic inn (aka a very old building) so don't expect it to be like a new hotel. Some other reviewers have noted that some of the spaces are a little run down, and that may be true, but you're choosing this place for the character. We didn't have any ghostly encounters, but the whole area has that vibe. The inn keeper Patrick was so helpful and we felt very well taken care of. Make sure you try the restaurant and tavern too, definitely worth a stop in!
