Our recent five-day stay at this hotel was incredibly disappointing, especially given the Ritz name. We experienced Motel 6 service at Ritz prices. Upon arrival, we had to change rooms due to finding dirty towels left by previous guests and hairballs in the stairwells.
The housekeeping and cleanliness service is pitiful, consisting only of making the bed and placing two chocolates—no effort to tidy up any wrappers or displaced towels. Our balcony remained untouched, with cups and wrappers from the previous days still lying around. The telephones were disgustingly dirty, adding to the overall lack of cleanliness.
We would rate this hotel at a Radisson level, not the luxury experience we expected. The landscaping was unkempt, and we never heard a vacuum or leaf blower in this supposedly tropical paradise. As seasoned travelers, we know what luxury entails, and this property falls far short. Save your money; this hotel does not live up to its Ritz label.

We have been to many Ritz Carlton properties throughout the years, and I would rate this one towards the bottom of the list.

I wish I had researched the property before making reservations! This property would receive 4⭐️ if it were a basic Mariott hotel. However, I expect more from a Ritz Carlton property and am willing to pay more for the (expected) level of staff service and services. This is easily the poorest example of Ritz Carlton service we have EVER experienced!
To begin with, I tried no fewer than 14 times before we arrived to contact the hotel restaurants to make dinner reservations. At times, I was refereed to the Concierge desk (where I was disconnected during the call transfer) and at other times, no one picked up the phone. Bottom line, we made dinner reservations off property for every night of our stay due to this awful treatment by the hotel staff.
Upon our arrival, our room was obviously not ready (I called ahead to inform them of our 2:00 arrival and to request an early check in). I wasn’t expecting our room to be ready based on my restaurant experiences, but I was “hopeful.” No such luck! Even though the hotel was nowhere near capacity, our room wasn’t ready for almost another hour.
I won’t necessarily hold the property responsible for inconsiderate guests but I do hold them responsible for not enforcing property rules. Each day of our stay, we struggled to get chairs by the adult pool. Guests routinely get chairs early, leave for hours and block other hotel guests from enjoying the pool chairs. Then, the parade of kids age 5-10 would come screaming into the adult pool, splashing one another and throwing balls and toys. Again, I fault the parents for ignoring the rules clearly shown around the adult pool stating “No children under 13 allowed”…. However, the hotel staff should enforce the rules but they were too busy playing cornhole and ignoring guests.
Last, be prepared to request housekeeping. We were at the pool for most of the day, and returned to our room just as we left it. When I called to ask what time they typically clean, I was informed that I needed to call and request our room to be cleaned. Again, not what we have experienced at other Ritz properties where service is king and turn-down service at night is a unique treat after dinner.
We will not return to this property unless they reclassify the property as a Residence Inn or basic Marriott property with prices commensurate with the level of service ambivalence.

The only good thing here is the view. The customer service is at best abysmal. We arrived at reception at 4:00. We weren’t checked in until 5:30. Only half of our bags were delivered to our room. We waited another thirty minutes to get our missing luggage. We waited one hour and forty minutes for breakfast after repeated lies from room service and the manager. Told it was a 45 minute wait then told in a canned response to our inquires “it is out for delivery.” Of course our order was completely messed up but we did not call the manager. Why bother? Many more examples of this lack of competence.
The standards for customer service is way below The Marriott and certainly The Ritz Carlton. “ My pleasure”. What a joke. Go somewhere else!

We chose the Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas expecting impeccable service and a memorable New Year’s celebration. What we got instead was a frustrating and disheartening experience that fell far short of the Ritz-Carlton name and the over $3,000 per night price tag.
From the moment we arrived, the staff aside from the outstanding Claudia, Jonathan, and Latoya—were consistently unwelcoming and hostile. Our visits to the concierge were met with impatience and bad moods, leaving us feeling like an inconvenience rather than valued guests.
The breakfast buffet was disappointing in quality and variety so we opted for à la carte. Big mistake. It took an excruciating hour for our order to arrive, further souring our mornings.
Housekeeping added to the stress. After cleaning our room, they forgot to leave towels. Despite making over eight requests for fresh towels, we didn’t receive them for 4.5 hours completely derailing our New Year’s Eve plans. Unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber.
Our bathroom sink barely had running water, so we requested maintenance and were assured someone would come “right away.” It took two days for anyone to show up, leaving us to deal with the inconvenience far longer than acceptable.
And the highly anticipated New Year’s Eve party? A complete letdown. No countdown, no energy, no sense of celebration—just a poorly executed event that capped off a disappointing stay.
Spending over $3,000 a night for this level of service is beyond unacceptable. We didn’t feel welcomed or cared for and this experience is far from what we’ve come to expect from Ritz-Carlton properties.

The resort is an oasis . All of the staff are amazing, professional, attentive and treated us like we were royalty. This is the gold standard. Resort itself is gorgeous, quiet, perfectly situated on a sheltered bay. The rooms are comfortable and well apportioned. However you will not want to leave the resort. Most of the island of St Thomas is sketchy, rundown, loaded with abandonded buildings and boat scrapyards. . Roads are really dangerous with 1 foot deep potholes everywhere. We drove the rental car to Red Hook and took the ferry to St. John. Unless you are driving to a beach on St. John its definately NOT worth the trip. Downtown area is about 4 blocks and is just a tourist trap, and not a nice one. Save your time and money and stay at the Ritz. I can't figure out why people would want to go there. Be prepared to spend a LOT of money for food.

I almost didn’t book bc of some of the reviews and I’m so glad I ignored the haters! We had the warmest welcome, property was gorgeous and they upgraded us to an ocean view king which I loved. The room felt new & fresh and the property was spotless. We loved the spa and sunset cruise. Only one restaurant was open for dinner which I knew from our booking. They sent us to the Easterly in Red Hook another night which we loved. The breakfast place made a killer latte and egg sandwiches. So much to do in this area, it’s not a place where you just hang around the resort all day like an all inclusive so maybe that’s the issue with the other reviewers. We went to St John and did a BVI boat trip which I highly recommend. Didn’t love the food at Alloro but service and atmosphere were still good. I would definitely go back- it’s an easy long weekend destination from the east coast

Really wanted to give a glowing review full of compliments, but this stay was a mixed bag for us. The property itself is gorgeous. The views are amazing and the water on the small, private beach is crystal clear and a great temperature. The pools are very pretty and the staff is incredibly kind. Our room was very clean, a decent size, awesome deck where we had our breakfast each morning.
Here are a few of the downsides: We have stayed at many Ritz’s and Westin’s in our travels. This one is probably on the lower tier of overall quality and service. Check-in was not good. We arrived after a very bumpy and expensive ($135) cab ride with some gorgeous views. It was 12:30 or so. The desk agent said that our room wasn’t ready, but hopefully in 30-45 minutes. We were dressed for cold weather coming from up north. The hotel is mostly open air so my wife and I were hot. We said that if we can’t get into our room soon, that we’d like a place to get changed into shorts and t-shirts. An hour passed. Still no room. We were sweating and the desk agent sent us to go get lunch. We spent an hour at lunch, still very hot, covered in sweat, we get back to the desk at 2:15 or so. She insisted the room still wasn’t ready, but hoped in the next 30 minutes. Long story short, we finally got into our room around 3:15.
A more savvy agent could have offered us a poolside bungalow along with a changing room and some drinks to cool down. Instead, we were offered a $200 resort fee credit. Not the best experience. Check out had similar issues. Breakfast options are either $60 a person buffet, room service, or a coffee shop with sandwiches and smoothies. We left our room the morning of checkout at 845 to get coffee and breakfast sandwiches. When we walked back to our room at 9:15, our key no longer worked. There was a service phone in the hallway near our room. The phone didn’t work. So I had to walk across the property up to the front desk. There was no one at the desk. I had to walk around hailing people for help. 15 mins later I found someone. She had to make me a new key. Then I had to flag down a golf cart and get a ride to the room. No one offered to help us with bags, so I carried our suitcases up two flights of stairs myself. Not a huge deal, but not what we’ve come to expect when staying at the Ritz.
Those crappy check-in and check-out experiences overshadowed what was generally a very nice stay.
