Big shout out to the lovely Ritz in Kapalua. The renovation from a couple of years ago has the property as beautiful as ever from when we first visited 20+ years ago. This was our fourth trip and won't be our last. In particular, Margie at the check-in/out desk gifted us with an extra-wonderful late, late check-out! With a 7 p.m. flight back to Dallas, she gave us the better part of the day to continue enjoying the resort and restaurants. It made all the difference in the world! Rather than having to be out at noon and having no place to 'live,' for hours on end, Margie extended our trip and gave us one more time to appreciate this beautiful property and their gracious staff. Also, sweet Amy at the breakfast buffet was so kind and helpful. She was so quick to provide anything we asked and went above and beyond day after day. It was a great way to start the day in such a gorgeous place. Thank you Ritz Kapalua friends--can't wait to return!

I’ve read a lot of the reviews on this site that caused me to be dubious about coming here, but we had an excellent experience. Here are a few things to set the record straight:
-Our room was beautiful and not dated in any way.
-The cleaning was impeccable. There was not a stray hair or dust anywhere.
-Maid service is performed daily, without requesting it.
-Turn down is available upon request.
-The bath towels are super plush and absorbent.
-The pool lounges are covered with a terry cloth sheet. The pool towels are in fine shape.
We chose to use the Club Level. The food was more varied and generous than some other Club Levels I’ve visited on the mainland. The hosts there really make the experience. Leilani watched over us with great care, anticipating our every need. Leena heard every request my husband made, followed up in a timely manner and then checked in the next day to make sure he had received everything he requested. It’s such a gift to have that kind of service these days, and these ladies exhibit the true Ritz motto- Ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen. Well done.

We just completed another fabulous vacation at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Maui. The resort and resort grounds are beautiful and serene. The people working there are amazing… friendly and welcoming.
Upon arriving we were greeted and given a lei and a beverage by the guest relations team. Check-In was quick and easy with the help of Margie at the Front Desk.
Our room (suite) was large and beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and we had very nice ocean front view. Daily housekeeping did a wonderful job.
Our package included Club Lounge access. Highly recommend. The Club Lounge is beautiful and the food is excellent, especially breakfast with an omelette chef. The team working there (led by Laura) is amazing… great service, friendly greetings and conversation, and helpful. They treated us royally and we felt spoiled!
Lots of activities onsite or close by including golf, hiking, biking, pools, beach, luau, family activities like ukulele lesson, lei making, hula lessons, etc. The resort publishes a daily activity list and/or the on-site concierge can help with reservations and tours.
We have attended the on-site luau a couple of times and totally enjoyed it each time. The food is very good and the show is magnificent!
We’re looking forward to our next visit to the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Maui.

The Ritz Carlton Maui is hands down one of the best properties in the world. We have stayed here about 6 times totaling about 60 nights over the last few years including getting married on property here in 2021. The property is fantastic in every way possible. It has a wonderful location in Kapalua, it has access to one of the best beaches, the grounds are gorgeous, rooms are elegantly done, and has one of the best lounges of any Ritz Carlton in the world. What makes this property particularly special though is its people many of which have been with the property for 20 plus years. This includes Margie at the front desk, Elma the best housekeeper ever, and Ms. Fisher in the lounge who is one of our all time favorite people. The management team is top notch led by the new GM Mr. Gersonde and Hotel Manager Ms. Lee. The Director of Rooms Ms. Stancil is excellent. The entire lounge team members led by Bella and Ms. Fisher and including team members Trevor, Leena, now part time Albert are the best lounge associates you can possible have. The food and drinks in the lounge are great. The other restaurants are incredible including Banyan Tree and the lobby lounge. The entire team always makes us feel warmly welcomed in every possible way and treated as though we are family which is sincerely appreciated. They always go above and beyond to take such great care of us ever for the impeccably high Ritz Carlton standards which speaks volumes of the people here. The regional leader for Marriott Mr. Kimball is fantastic too. You would regret not staying at this special property if you visit Hawaii as nothing else compares to the genuine people and the beauty of the property itself!

This hotel was nice in some ways, but in others didn’t live up to the brand.
The proximity to the ocean was great, and the beach was lovely. We appreciated that as Bonvoy members (Titanium Elite – we stay in Bonvoy hotels a lot!) we were able to use at no extra charge beach chairs and an umbrella, which staff at the beach helpfully set up.
Overall, staff were friendly. It was pleasant to be greeted by nearly every employee with an “aloha.”
The beds were very comfortable, and the blackout window coverings were much appreciated.
So where did the hotel disappoint? For starters, with the room description. We had booked a “deluxe ocean view” room and discovered the description of “ocean view” was very misleading. It should have said “ocean view balcony,” because that’s where the view was. You had to step onto the balcony and turn to see the ocean (and look down to see the very popular pool area). From the room, one had a view of palm trees and the other side of the hotel – but not the ocean. When we asked about it, we were told “all the rooms, except the ocean front rooms, have a partial ocean view.” Not a great way to start a special visit.
On the plus side, Margie at the reception desk was super nice and offered to move us to an ocean front room after our first night when she noticed that the upgrade we’d been offered the day before wasn’t really an upgrade. We accepted and appreciated her offer. She warned us that the room had a connecting door; fortunately, our neighbors quieted down around 11 p.m. each of the nights we were there. We could hear everything from the room next to ours. The connecting door had a huge gap at the top, and wasn’t very well insulated. But we had a full-on ocean view, which made up for it.
Some other concerns. The brand promises luxury but a few times it didn’t live up to that promise. For example, there was no turn-down service. There was daily housekeeping, available upon request, however.
Our package included breakfast, which, we learned when we arrived at the breakfast restaurant the first morning, was the buffet. The buffet was ok, but didn’t include any items to order other than beverages. (There was an omelet station, however.) We thought we could at least order eggs Benedict, but our server said that would be extra – or, if we chose not to have the buffet, the hotel would apply a $30 per person credit to each person’s breakfast. Eggs Benedict off the menu was $38. Even with the price of eggs (which were available at the omelet station), to charge guests in a luxury hotel for an order of eggs Benedict seems… not at all luxurious.
One more disappointment: The décor is tired. The brown and gold brought us back to the 90s, carpeting in the stairway is worn, and wood trim and case goods are badly dinged. The Banyan Tree restaurant is in need of a refresh. A coat of paint and some new chairs would be good.
Would we stay here again? Probably not. It was nice enough in some ways but not enough in our opinion to live up to the Ritz brand.

Mixed reviews on this hotel. Biggest issue is the service level is WAY lower than I have come to expect from a Ritz. I don’t normally write long reviews, but I was so disappointed I want to take the time to let people know what’s going on before they book.
SERVICE: Brandon at the pool and Alex at breakfast are both exceptional servers who care about customers and their job. Housekeeping was also responsive. Otherwise, often could not get a server to help us without hunting them down. Breakfast buffet food was often empty or low and not refilled. Sat in bar for sushi and drinks and no one came to our table. After 30 min we went to bar to order ourselves. Other than the I’m writing my review right now the buffet not filling the food and not having servers around what are the other service complaint and then having to go to the bar to get a drink cause no one came to us what are the other any other service issues.
GROUNDS: beautiful. Great areas to walk and hike nearby.
HOTEL ROOM: dated. Crumbs on floor that were not ours. Dust on tables.
POOL: not heated, thin and flimsy towels way below any other Ritz I’ve been to.
The refillable water bottles and filling stations are great.
FOOD: Ordered salads two different days at pool and the lettuce was inedible and brown/black. Rest of the food is give a 7/10.

Nestled gracefully along the stunning shores of Maui, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua stands as a paragon of luxury and tranquility, offering an unparalleled escape that tantalizes the senses. From the moment of arrival, where we were warmly greeted by the attentive staff, to the awe-inspiring views that envelop this magnificent resort, every detail conspired to create an unforgettable experience.
Our stay was further elevated by a gracious upgrade from the General Manager, whose thoughtfulness and commitment to excellence are evident throughout the property. This gesture not only enhanced our comfort but also set a tone of exceptional service that permeated our entire visit.
The accommodations afforded us sweeping vistas of the azure ocean, where we were treated to the breathtaking spectacle of rainbows arching gracefully across the sky—a vivid reminder of nature's beauty. Watching the sun dip below the horizon from our balcony was a mesmerizing experience, casting a kaleidoscope of colors that danced upon the tranquil waters below.
The resort’s renowned spa is a sanctuary of serenity, offering a harmonious blend of rejuvenating treatments and holistic therapies. The skilled therapists provide an exquisite range of services, each designed to soothe the body and invigorate the soul. I indulged in the signature treatment, which incorporated locally sourced ingredients, allowing me to fully embrace the essence of Maui. The ambiance of the spa, coupled with the tranquil sounds of nature, creates a cocoon of peace that lingers long after the treatment concludes.
Culinary delights await at every turn within the resort, with dining options that reflect the rich flavors of Hawaii while incorporating exquisite global influences. Each meal we enjoyed was a celebration of creativity and freshness, perfectly complementing the idyllic surroundings.
In closing, my heartfelt gratitude extends to the General Manager for the generous upgrade and for fostering an environment where guests feel cherished and valued. The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is not merely a destination; it is a transcendent experience that captivates the heart and soul—one that beckons a return to bask in its extraordinary beauty once more.

Playing the Plantation Course and the Bay Course at Kapalua was a highlight of our GolfAhoy golf cruise around the Hawaiian Islands aboard the Pride of America.
From the first time I visited the island, the beauty of Maui and its world-class golf courses have always taken my breath away.
After the cruise ended in Honolulu, we returned to Maui for a few days. Getting to Maui was a breeze. We booked an inexpensive flight on Hawaiian Air from Honolulu, and the 39-minute hop felt like no time.
Once we landed, the drive to The Ritz-Carlton at Kapalua set the tone for an unforgettable stay. Nestled near the Bay Course and a short ride from The Plantation Course, the Ritz is in a spectacular location that feels both luxurious and close to nature.
Before tackling the Plantation Course for the second time, my wife took advantage of some Kapalua Golf Academy lessons. The PGA Professionals there are phenomenal. Their fine-tuning lessons made a noticeable difference in my wife’s game, and I noticed how popular the Academy was, especially with first-timers or partners new to golf. If you have the time, their three-day golf school program is worth considering.
After a day on the greens, nothing hit the spot quite like the Wagyu Burger and Fries at the Ritz’s Alaloa Lounge overlooking Honokahua Bay, and I can confidently say it was the most flavorful burger I’ve ever had in my life. However, I can’t say the same for the Salt & Vinegar Crispy Calamari – one bite was enough to know it wasn’t for us. Thankfully, our server was gracious and promptly removed it from our bill. My wife, always on top of her Bonvoy rewards points, mentioned that Ritz-Carlton staff are empowered to resolve guest issues up to $1,000 on the spot. That kind of service really sets them apart.
Advice. Hang out for the sun-setting ceremony during the native Hawaiian prayer service.
One evening, we decided to splurge at The Banyan Tree restaurant. Yes, it’s pricey – this is Hawaii, but the $78 Seafood Curry was worth every penny.
If you’re planning a GolfAhoy Hawaii golf cruise, here’s my advice: ask your GolfAhoy travel advisor to add on their post-cruise package at The Ritz-Carlton Maui. It includes transportation, accommodation, and golfer amenities.
Advice. Another must? Upgrade to the Ritz Club Lounge access. Throughout the day, you can indulge in gourmet food and beverages, and the exclusivity of the experience is well worth the fee.
Maui, Kapalua, and The Ritz-Carlton were everything I dreamed of and more – the perfect end to an unforgettable Hawaii golf cruise vacation.

Stayed here for 5 nights in November. I’m not sure if it was the time of the year, but the weather was not good, but often upon leaving the resort we often found sunny and beautiful conditions. I booked this on points and had a very nice time but would have been disappointed if I’d paid for these stay.
The rooms were fine, not spectacular. Upon checking in we were told only rooms with 2 queens were available. After a long day of travel this seemed fine and we weren’t given another alternative, but I wish we had asked if we could switch to a king room later in the week. There wasn’t any additional seating in the room and we didn’t need an additional bed.
Have stayed at the RC in Aruba and Tenerife in the past and would return to either of them in a heartbeat. We ended up extending our stay in Hawaii one additional night and stayed at the Sheraton by Black Rock and were shocked to love it and would stay here next time we come to Hawaii. This may also be an “expectations” thing- we had sky high expectations and hopes for this property and were slightly disappointed, low expectations for Sheraton and they were greatly exceeded.
The rooms were surprisingly dark, and not good lighting and lamps around. Even the bathroom lighting felt dim.
Bed was very comfortable! The food was good throughout, we ate dinner at Banyan Tree, lunch at the burger shack, and had drinks and appetizers at the lobby bar (get the spicy tuna bites!) meals were very expensive, and we’d anticipated this, but kind of shocking when a lunch of fish tacos, 1 beer and a shared appetizer is about $100.
It was a little bit of a hike to the beach but serene once there and the staff was attentive and kind. We saw a turtle on the beach our first morning. There is a golf cart shuttle to take you to the beach if you want it. We had rented snorkel gear for the week but didn’t attempt it at this beach, the water was too strong.
The week we were there the sun set behind the building by about 3 pm and the pools were shaded and felt freezing. The hot tub was very crowded all the time, and there were 2 hot tubs usually but one was closed for repairs. The pools and hot tubs are open 24/7 but we never really saw people using them, and pool water was way too cold by the evening.
Rooms have nespresso machines which is a nice way to start and end the day. Patio was comfortable and views were nice from the partial ocean view.
If you’re seeking gorgeous weather, probably best to consider another property. We won’t be back here but it’s a reflection of the location and not the hotel staff and services.
Cons: no turndown service, $65 valet- no other parking options, sun goes behind building at 3 pm, shading the pool. Weather could be rainy at resort but sunny just a few miles south
Pros: gorgeous property, kind staff, great but expensive food at the on site restaurants. Free chairs and umbrellas at the beach.

I have stayed at quite a few 5-star resorts in my lifetime, but The Ritz-Carlton Maui is impeccable with their accommodations and services. I had a relative that had stayed here fifteen years ago before the remodel and said they preferred it over some of the other expensive resorts on Maui. I'd have to agree with them!
Upon arrival, everyone is warm and welcoming. We received our leis, warm wet towels, and welcome drink. Our room was 2431 during the first week of October and it was a bit of a walk to the lobby, but there was an elevator close by that took us down to the pools. The three pools are serene, open 24/7, and heated! My husband and I live in Vegas and the pools are rarely heated and closed before sunset. There are two hot jacuzzis, which were never crowded and great to be in after working out in their gym (also open 24/7). Of the three pools, one is dedicated to families and the other two are for adults. There is also a children's pool for toddlers. Never did we feel like anyone was rowdy late at night with the pools being open. So, if you want, you may swim at night with no one to bother you.
Our room was the one bedroom suite with partial ocean view. With it being a bit of a walk from the lobby, I believe that made our suite more than just a partial view as we were on a corner and could see more ocean on the double balcony. The room was meticulous. Much more clean than some high end resorts in Vegas. In the entry way, there is a powder room with shower. I pretty much booted my husband to use that shower during our trip so I could have the bigger bathroom. More so, I could use the heated toilet seat in the master bath. The bathrooms came with sewing & vanity kits, makeup wipes, mouthwash, and the showers came with communal amenities. There is a walk in closet as well as a desk/vanity spot across from the closet with the Keurig machine. Both the living room and bedroom are very spacious. The king size bed comes with plenty of pillows along with a down comforter. There are reading lamps attached to the bed frame. Both balconies had a sliding glass and screen door. Plenty of outdoor furniture too!
Let's talk about the resort food. We both had A La Carte breakfast or buffet breakfast each morning at Ulana, which by the pictures, you know it's good! The A La Carte is very filling and the buffet has something for everyone (the healthiest and biggest one I've been to). Their juices are very fresh, especially the Guava juice. While I didn't have any pool food, their cocktails and wellness juices are delicious. I could have the Maui Dew all day long if I could afford it! The Burger Shack is a must go to! It's down next to the beach (the waves are rough). We got it to-go so we could eat at the beach instead of eating on their patio. My husband practically lived off of Mai Tai's the whole trip and said the Burger Shack had the best one! I had the banana shake and the Wagyu burger with bacon. Highly recommend! One night, we went to Banyan Tree for my Birthday and everything was delicious from the drinks to dessert.
Thank you, The Ritz-Carlton Maui, for making my Birthday vacation special and because of this, we do plan to stay at another Ritz resort next year for our honeymoon somewhere tropical. And even if a Ritz is not there, we hope to stay at a Marriott property.

Honolua bay is a 10min drive away and it's the best snorkeling location on the island imo. You also have some amazing restaurants nearby (10-15min near drive) if you don't like the ones on property. The property itself is massive and well maintained. My favorite parts are the cats around the property lol. Milkdud by Olu Cafe made an appearance while we were eating lunch and was extremely friendly! The staff were awesome as well. The room attendants and bellman were always courteous and on point. Our room was serviced timely and we didn't have to wait more than 5 min for our car. The food and beverage options were good but pricey. The only feedback I have to offer would be that the rooms are outdated and its due for a refresh.

I wanted to recognize the superb staff at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua. Jon Gersonde and his excellent team helped craft a very memorable and relaxing getaway for us. The welcome amenity waiting in our room was a nice introduction to the service we would receive during our time at the resort. The breakfast buffet at Ulana Terrace was delicious. The beautifully designed pools were very peaceful, and the resort grounds are exquisitely landscaped. DT Fleming beach is an easy walk from the hotel, and Kapalua Bay Beach (with its gentle waters and phenomenal snorkeling with tons of aquatic life) is a 5-minute drive away. The Kapalua Coastal Trail is easily accessible with gorgeous vistas highlighting the area's natural beauty. Initially, we were considering staying in the Wailea area. We visited Wailea for a day and discovered that this part of Maui is a resort-heavy development which felt very busy and crowded. We were very glad we stayed in Kapalua, which has more open spaces and feels much more tranquil. We couldn't be happier with our choice to stay at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua.
