We stayed one night at the beginning and the end of our trip. The view was breathtaking! The restaurant had been damaged by Hurricane Ernesto, so the menu was limited. But since the bar and restaurant were on a covered verandah overlooking Charlotte Amalie harbor, that was easily ignored (and it's only temporary anyway). All the staff were lovely, and we especially enjoyed our evening hangouts around the bar--great conversation with the wonderfully friendly and interesting bar tender and other guests.

Comfortable and beautiful!
Stunning views. Great hospitality. Very comfortable room. There is no restaurant in the US that can surpass the ocean views here. Balconies are private and the pool and pool deck are perfectly in line with the old world ambiance of this hotel.

This is an old hotel that has suffered from the severe storms in the past few years, but that doesn't detract from the charm. The hotel is on a cliff overlooking Charlotte Amalie and has one of the best views in the islands. Open your window, feel the breeze and watch the changing colors of St Thomas. The staff are wonderful, helpful and fun. The restaurant, though damaged, is reported to open early in 2025 with a great local chef. Can't wait...always our Go To place in St Thomas!

I don’t know if I can trust Trip Advisor anymore! We booked this hotel upon your recommendations with 4 couples, and it was an awful experience. From the descriptions on your site, we were expecting a lovely boutique hotel! It probably wasn’t updated since it opened in 1970, and it is truly falling apart! The staff was nice..they tried, but they couldn’t make up for the conditions we experienced.
Examples…total sparse rooms, ants in the room, unkempt entrances, no coffee availability before 8 a.m., breakfast, on our first morning was not served for an hour because the chefs didn’t show up…that evening the bar and restaurant closed because they didn’t have staff, one umbrella at the pool, pool water wasn’t clean…..need I say more?
The only positive it has going for it is the view of the Charlotte Amalia harbor…spectacular!
Hoping, a large chain buys it and totally rebuilds it.

If you are on St Thomas to relax, slow down your pace, avoid the traffic and congestion in town, and enjoy a beautiful view of the island and town below, have a nice dinner and breakfast and meet wonderful staff and other guests... book here!
We spent two nights here to break up our trip to St John and were very pleased with the hotel, the staff and the food not to mention the view from the hills overlooking Charlotte Amalie.
Its not a new place, but rooms, maintenance and furniture, etc. are just fine. Might see an ant or a crack in the plaster... so what. Kick back an enjoy the pool area, take a nap, enjoy the AC which works fine.
The manager, Elisabeth takes good care of everything you need, and the breakfast Queen, Miss Ella, is a delight to start each day. The hostess in the restaurant in the evening is one classy lady, and makes everyone feel like royalty.
We had our first night meal in the restaurant and decided to cancel our reservation elsewhere on the second night and eat again at Mafolie.
It was a wonderful two days and nights and I just had to pass along these comments to others!

A day and evening at Mafolie
What a fabulous one night stay at Mafolie. The view, the pool, the happy hour, the accommodation and the dinner restaurant. All were wow good.
And nice folks too - every one of them. Thanks very much Mafolie Hotel and we'll see
you again next time.

On our recent trip to St. John, we opted to spend our first night on St. Thomas. The Mafolie Hotel was a wonderful start to our trip. The hotel doesn’t offer a shuttle from the airport, and we didn’t have a rental car, so we had to wait a few about 15 minutes for a taxi ride, but not a big deal.
The Mafolie is located high on the hillside with a spectacular view of Charlotte Amalie. Our flight got in early, and our room was almost ready, so we enjoyed complimentary beverages by the poolside, overlooking the harbor. Beautiful. We checked in on time. Our room was not fancy, but it was nicely appointed and very clean, and the bed was perfectly comfortable. The acclaimed Mafolie restaurant was closed the night we were there (Tuesdays), but the helpful staff member (sorry, didn’t write down her name!) recommended Sib’s, a short walk up the hill, which was delightful. (Note: if you go to Sib’s in the evening, take a flashlight or headlamp for the walk back. We did, and we were glad!)
After dinner, we enjoyed the view from the pool deck which is SPECTACULAR. We mapped constellations, as church bells chimed in Charlotte Amalie, frogs croaked, and roosters crowed.
After a lovely night’s sleep, we enjoyed breakfast (included with the room) at the Mafolie Restaurant. Coffee and orange juice were served right away. My wife had the avocado toast, and I had an omelet. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. Ella, our hostess at the restaurant, was jovial and added so much to our morning experience.
Irish, front desk, arranged for a taxi to take us to the Red Hook ferry at 11 am, which was check out time—we wanted to enjoy every minute of our stay!
One small issue: the room we reserved (a Junior King Suite) was more spectacular than the room we stayed in. I got in touch with the Mafolie, they apologized and refunded us the difference. We look forward to staying there on our next trip!

Pros
Genuinely friendly service and a gorgeous view and clean and on-site restaurant comfortable beds
Cons
Falling apart, toilet feels like it's going to come unattached, balcony is scary, hairdryer doesn't work, toilet roll holder broken, to get to our room we have to go onto the road around parked cars and risk lives - drivers are crazy here. Can't walk to anywhere nearby. Only food available after 330pm when bar opens upstairs with limited seating. Bar at pool never seemed to open.
Overpriced for what you get.

We were just there for 1 night after spending a week on Tortola. The room and bathroom were small, and very low water pressure in the shower and water tepid. A tiny balcony, but lovely view of the bay from the balcony. It's up a mountain, and as far as I can tell, not within walking distance of anything. We had good cocktails and dinner in the restaurant. I had a delicious pasta and a heavenly bread pudding for dessert. We liked our server Roseann. Had a very nice complimentary hot breakfast from a menu - eggs and sausage for my husband and apple/caramel stuffed French toast for me. Requires negotiating stone stairs to/from the office and restaurant.

This place is truly a hidden gem. We really loved everything about it. First, the views are absolutely incredible. There are panoramic views from almost everywhere on the property. The free made to order breakfast is fantastic, but don't miss happy hour. The drinks are strong and the food is fantastic (try the cauliflower). Rosie the bartender is an absolute delight, but so is the entire staff. We didn't mind the 50 steps to our room, if you want good views it usually comes with a little exercise. The road noise can be rough so bring ear plugs if that bothers you, but I did fine without them. For such an expensive island, this place was a bargain and well worth the price. And if you like cats, there are 2 little residents that will hang out with you while you tan by the stunning pool. If I ever return to St. Thomas I will absolutely be staying here again.
