Three employees stood out for me:
Kendall Sensores from the entertainment team was amazing. Yes he is energetic but he is so down to earth and genuine. He made our time there so enjoyable.
Octavio from the lobby bar was awesome. He quickly remembered what drinks you like. He was so friendly and courteous.
Lastely, Carlos from the blue team was also great. He took time to talk to people. He was very informative about the area and surroundings.
Thanks again
Shawn and peeps from North Bay and Ottawa.

We traveled the end of February, first week in March, 2025. We found this resort to be smaller than other resorts we have been to, which was really nice. It actually was a plus as you did not feel crowded when you walked around or dined. The grounds are well kept and maintained to impeccable standards. The rooms were very nice. We had great water pressure in the shower. You do, however, have to get up at 5:00 a.m. to reserve your lounge chairs. That part is very true as you may have read in other reviews. The food was very good and a great selection. The dress code that you read about (long pants for men and dresses for women) is not enforced. You can dine in cargo pants and sneakers if you like. That was one of the plusses at this resort, it is more casual. Dress up if you like though! There are no bathrobes in the rooms, unless you upgrade to privilege - we did not upgrade. The swimming area by the ocean is limited, as there is a railing around most of it due to erosion, but there is an area that you can get in to and walk the beach. I little worried about that before we left, but we were fine, as we are beach people. If you are a smoker, there is one spot you are designated to smoke in. But we found that you can smoke at other areas (down by the ocean or anywhere out of the way of other guests) so we were comfortable doing so. The staff is very friendly and the drinks were good, not top shelf liquor, unless you upgraded to privilege. We had a wonderful time and would go to this resort again. There was varied entertainment nightly by the lobby.

Leaving tomorrow after a 10-day stay. All in all a wonderful resort. In our opinion, a few features of our stay stood out:
Great:
- key bracelet/fob for room
- Mike's coffee shop
- wifi
- shower (water presure/temperature)
- air conditioning
- service
- cleanliness/housekeeping
Not so great:
- beach: very limited if you like to spend time a lot of time walking the beach
- quiet pool: misnomer; not located in a quiet area
We would like to point out some super dedicated members of the staff who really made us feel welcomed:
- Tigre (lobby)
- Fania (lobby)
- Ramon (lobby)
- Esperanza (La Hacienda/El Charro)
Keep up the great work. You are what makes travelers come back again and again :)

The restaurants, gardens, pool and beach are great. The beach is clean, lovely soft white sand, lots of options for seating on the beach and around the pool (but need grab them early to get a good spot). Great activities- we went scuba diving and jet skiing all available from the hotel. There are two pools, one that’s more chilled, and another with fun entertainment at various times during the day.
For us there were two things not making this a five star experience: the service and the room. While the staff are friendly, the service around the pool/beach is rather slow, and in the restaurants our drinks orders were often forgotten which was strange. The room was ok but a bit of a let down honestly. We had a sea view room on the ground floor- the view and location was good but the standard of the room decor/furnishings were a little sub par. An electrical socket wasn’t attached properly, some lights didn’t work, paint coming off wall, cabinet door to the mini fridge loose and wonky, etc. Also when we took a shower there was a nasty smell that came from the drain- after telling the hotel they came a addressed it and it seemed to work (they out vinegar down the sink I think). This solved it for a feed days but it kinda back on the last day.
Overall a perfectly good hotel- the beach and pool are really nice and we were very happy sitting and relaxing all week there. My personal opinion is that it’s more of a solid/great 4 star hotel vs a 5 star hotel.

This place never stops.. the staff that is hired for entertainment is absolutely wonderful. they are always pleasant and getting you involved in all activities ,but never did they make me feel like I had to participate if I didn't feel like it .
There are 4 restaurants -Italian-Mexican-French and Japanese ( the last you have to get in line before hand to get in) but they also have a buffet restaurant which is fabulous.. overnight is a different themed food menu...
The only problem with this establishment is that they cater to their Privileged customers...you should not be pushed aside due to the price you have paid for your week...
But again I would go back to this resort!!

This is a beautiful resort with a very friendly and helpful staff. Beach area and pools are well maintained and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. Food and drink choices in the restaurants are plentiful and delicious. We opted for Privilege level and loved the private beach area and the convenience of the Privilege Lounge. Our only complaint is that the free shuttle service we had booked through the hotel was a no-show for the return to the airport and we had to take a cab. Everything else was perfect. We will definitely be back!

We went for a break to escape the cold and get some relaxation. The reason for going was our 20th Wedding Anniversary. . Nothing off this happened. The pools are close together and one is noise and by location so is the other. First time went down to pool when husband taken ill after arrive at the resort two days into our stay. I went to the pools to read a book could not find a sunbed and told its full by staff. For two off those days I dragged a sunbed off the beach watched by staff. We had to fight to get sun beds each day as they are reserved from 5-00 to 6.00 o clock in the morning. They are not used until 10.30. We were ordered off two sunbeds by american guest which were empty and told they were theirs. They stand in the pool never leave it and is difficult to swim in it and ask yourself what else I am swimming in. We also had drunks under our room pre 4am shouting banging and running around the rooms below us.The Japanese restaurant was shut as chefs were ill shame time as husband. I did explain to manager how upset I was and said would do something for our anniversary he did he decorated someones else's room which would off took all off five minutes. Italian restaurant did not have the choice I wanted on two nights and the last night the food was awful. Entertainment team lessons are wrong on the board and that is if you can find them. The only good day was when we organised with our rep to go to Colum and had an interesting day out and good food. Our rep Maria from TUI also did as much as she could to help when my husband fell ill. Save yourself some money go else where and have a relaxing break where you do not have to fight to get a sunbed or food as the locust descend on the restaurant leaving nothing for anyone else. Yes I did go to the manager who just sent another member off staff to deal with it, no responsibility taken.

After over 40 trips to the all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, mostly around Playa del Carmen, I think we have a pretty feel for what to expect.
After 9 days at Ocean Maya Royale, Feb 11-19, I will give it one of my highest compliments, that being ‘we would go back’.
It’s not perfect, but it rates highly in the areas I feel are most important.
First, it’s small, as all-inclusives go, and has an intimate feeling, with everything within easy walking distance. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The beach is excellent, with no rocks to contend with, and there is a fresh water lagoon an easy hike to the north. There was a lot of excellent entertainment, with various musicians in the afternoons and evenings. The only restaurant that required a reservation was Yakooso, but that was easy to get.
My only disappointment was the massage, where we paid for 80 minutes and got about an hour of actual massage, and the top shelf liquor was extra, but those are small complaints over nine days.
I would recommend the private transfer and the beachfront rooms, which is money well spent IMHO.
Bottom line, one of the better resorts we’ve had the privilege to enjoy and it gets my highest compliment.
We look forward to returning.

Where to start with our stay here, it was probably the most fun we have had on vacation, out of the three H10 Ocean Hotels in Playa del Carmen, this one was the best match for us! Only Adults really was what we were looking for all along. I think they have a very good relax and party balance going on for them here, with live musicians playing around the pool after lunch and the best foam parties ever! They have also truly built the best animation staff! You will meet the best people like Dalí to make you laugh in all their arts and crafts activities, kenddell for the most energetic a aquaclass, Víctor for his personality and fun in volleyball, Oswyn for his charm, Viri for her friendliness, Moises for being funny and a talented dancer and Carlos for the fitness! The bar crew are the best and will give you the best drinks in all the caribbean! Cant wait to come back :)

We stayed at Ocean Maya Royale for two weeks for the first time are were so pleased. We are members therefore accessed all the privilege amenities.
FOOD: Buffet is just OK therefore we ate breakfast everyday at the privilege lounge which was fantastic. For lunch we ordered meals directly on the beach from our butler or ate at the Mexican restaurant. All specialty restaurants for dinner are great however the Italian and Bluemoon were our favorite - so yummy.
Room: We had an amazing room. Very very clean, spacious and never had issues getting fresh towels or hot water.
Grounds: So beautiful and well taken care of. This was the first time that I seen staff cleaning so frequently ex: cleaning loungers at the beach or pool, cleaning the couches in the lobby with steam cleaner etc.
Service: TOP NOTCH SERVICE. Again, I've never experienced such amazing service. Staff are on you to offer drinks non stop; bringing cold cloths in the afternoon from the butler or bucket filled with ice and bottles of water - AMAZING.
Privilege: I recommend becoming members - truly no regrets for us. The service, quality or products that you receive here when accessing privilege is second to none.
Pools - beach: We stayed on the beach in privilege section everyday and loved it. There is a "party" pool or quiet pool. Pools are very clean and just warm enough to enjoy everyday without needing to give yourself an extended period of time to "jump in" if you know what I mean.
Overall: In summary we will return to this resort based on our experience. Absolutely loved it. We love that this resort is not this massive complex and everyone remembered you and acknowledged you when they walked by. Just book here - you won't regret it.

Five stars for the wellness staff
Breathwork, meditation and Ice baths were amazing Wednesday’s and Saturday mornings! Met some great people and the wellness staff were amazing and knowledgeable! Only wish is if we could ice bath every morning! Aside from that, the resort was beautiful, food great and weather spectacular!

If I could give this a half star I would give it a 3.5 We went with two other couples whom we have travelled with a lot and mostly for winter getaways to an all inclusive in Mexico or the Caribbean . I find it most helpful to provide the Pro's and Con's in a review so here goes -
PRO'S
- relatively small resort which we liked and it was easy to walk from the beach/pool to the lobby and I walk with a cane. The grounds were nice and well kept
- staff in general were great and five stars to Kendall on the entertainment staff for his energy, sense of humour and amazing ability to remember guest names
- rooms were large and well equipped (we each had 3 pillows on the bed) plus there was a pull out sofa in the room.
- the entertainment in the courtyard before dinner was always very good and usually a single performer
- breakfast buffet was pretty good and had pretty much anything you might want
- the little coffee shop had very good coffees and pastries
- the Japanese restaurant had the best food
- nice option to have a Sports Bar onsite for those that wanted it While we were there the Four Nations (hockey) series played and there were 3 games we wanted to see. The bar got busy and especially the last night. The bartender was really great and did whatever he could to accommodate the crowd for access to the channel, seating and to get food & drinks to everyone.
- the food overall was average. Some of it was good and some not very good and it was not always consistent. I had only one thing that was very good and that was cooked large shrimp on Mexican night at the buffet
- the beach had plenty of seating and we could always get 6 loungers but only in the farthest and quietest spot which was fine
- there seemed to be lots of activities posted on the board but a number of them were hosted by the pool with swim up bar which was pretty loud most of the time.
- we went to only one evening show after dinner that was Karoke and that was run well and the entertainment staff got good participation from the guests
- the quiet pool had built in benches in one area which was nice and a small area blocked off that was 8' deep so great for jumping in when you were hot.
CON'S
- The Privilege program and differential treatment of those guests was a little too much. Some of the staff at the front desk were border line rude and dismissive if you were not Privilege. They also got first access to the only reservation restaurant (Japanese) which had the best food so it was hard to get in and the lineup to try for a reservation was always long. Also, they only had two of the four Teppanyaki tables operating
-We could only get Superior room at a cost of $1,200+ more than what our friends paid and the only difference was that we were one building closer to the pool area and with a very limited view of the water so calling it ocean front is a stretch. Only complaint about the rooms were 1) no full length mirror and the only mirror was in the bathroom and 2) out of 3 couples only 1 of us had a working fridge despite mtce. being called.
- I got food poisoning from the Blue Moon (romantic) restaurant. I ordered Seafood Stew and it was not a stew (some seafood on top of cold rice) The Italian restaurant had nice ambience and the food was just ok. It would have been nice to have a place to have a drink while waiting but it is located by the pool & beach and there is no bar down there open in the evening
- the party pool was quite loud in the afternoons especially on the days of the Foam Party. The quiet pool is right beside the party pool so it was hard to get much quiet other than to sit on the beach farthest away as possible
- Very limited beach area for swimming and most of the beach was fenced off and the water was not accessible
- Worst resort ever for loungers being taken early. We were up as early as 6 am some days and there were no more seats around either pool
- Lots of animals (don't recall their name) that look kind of like skinny racoons but with long noses ad long tails. One of our couples were on the main floor and left their door open and an animal got in and headed right for their coffee machine and wouldn't easily leave. There were often 4 or 5 in the garbage cans and some times you would see 8 -10 jumping out of a tree. If you were walking with food in your hand they could get somewhat aggressive and follow you . We have never seen this type of animal or behaviour and have been to a number of resorts in the Mayan area
- Not enough umbrellas around the quiet pool and some of them were broken
- Smoking was annoying. Even though there was a designated area amongst the room buildings for smokers, people were smoking everywhere and the staff did nothing to stop them
- For the special hockey games in the Sports Bar they tried to get the channel and even got the GM involved. They tried to some extent and the GM did help somewhat but we had to rely on guests who managed to stream the game through their IPads Most of the resort was Canadian and some US and a few British visitors - the series was Canada, US, Sweden and someone else.
