My husband & I enjoyed a 5 day stay at the MIA Reef. While we were still at the resort, we booked our next trip back to include our 2 teen daughters. This was a 100% refundable trip and my card was charged the full amount immediately. Unfortunately I had to cancel a few days after booking due to a busy summer. I emailed twice asking about my refund. Someone finally responded via text that it would take 20-30 days for my refund. This is unacceptable. I could understand a 5-7 day turnaround for a refund but a month?

Overall we enjoyed the stay.
The resort is quite small with rooms in one building and villas, we stayed in a deluxe room with ocean view. They gave us a room with two twin beds instead of a single queen. The bathroom is tiny but OK. The room had a balcony, unfortunately the air conditioner blew the hot air onto it so it was hard to enjoy it. I think about 25% of the rooms have this issue. The resort is old, about 50 years and it shows, it needs quite a bit of TLC. The hotel bills itself as 5 stars, I'd say it's a 3 1/2 to 4 stars, not close to 5
The beach area is small with huts in the back and loungers in the front, one right beside the other, there is no free beach area. The water is great with shallow water that extends a long way into the ocean.
As with most Mexico resorts the service was very good, alcohol is plentiful but cheap, the better stuff is extra. The buffet was good with some variations through the week. They have two a la carte restaurants which have to be reserved the day before, the menu was limited and to me the buffet was just as good an option. Of 8 days we reserved the restaurants 3 times.
The resort has some bicycles (5) for the guests but they look like they came with the resort and were never maintained, use them at your own risk. We chose the best two and biked over to the south side of the island.
One day they had a wedding so that day all the lounge chairs were removed and only the people that reserved the huts were able to enjoy the water. I think that was unacceptable.

Absolutely, breath taking. We booked through a member for three nights and extended for an additional night. Substantial savings. We didn't even explore Isla because we were so content.
Miguel (Mike) and Roberto went out of their way to make everyone feel VIP.
Rooms are small but who spends time in them. The views of the Caribbean and Ocean best I've seen in the Yucatan. Sunsets are better than PV.
The ceviche at 2-4pm to die for. The reno's were apparent in the buffet and main bar. Pool is not used very much as the Norte beach is the best.
Highly recommend

Overall really great stay at Mia Reef. Hotel staff were kind and attentive. Rooms were comfortable, our AC worked great. The location was gorgeous. More pros and cons are listed below:
Pros:
- The water was crystal clear and the swimming space is massive so even when it's busy it doesn't feel like it in the water. I'd say the water is the nicest on the island, even better than the North Beach.
- The location is amazing, you have the "rough" ocean on one side, and the calm crystal waters on the other.
- Staff came by to take drink orders on the beach and check in fairly frequently.
- Food was good and you could always find something to eat at the buffet. The Mexican restaurant was amazing and really knowledgeable about gluten free foods.
- The hotel was very quiet and relaxing, with a bit of entertainment scheduled each night.
- Super close to the main town area with lots of restaurants and shops. About a 10 minute walk, no need for a golf cart unless you want to explore the full island.
Cons:
- Beware the "Deluxe ocean view room." We paid for the upgrade expecting to be on the side facing out to the ocean, and the listing said we would get either a king bed or two doubles. We were given a room with a queen bed, and our room had a view mostly of the roof below, and the bridge going back to the main part of the island. When talking to the front desk staff to explain this isn't the room we paid for, we were told that every room has an ocean view because we're on an island and there's ocean everywhere, and that the beds aren't guaranteed (even though the listing clearly stated that room came with a king or two doubles, no mention of a queen at all). We did end up being able to move rooms after the first night and the room was more in line with our expectations for the upgrade we paid for, but we heard at least 2 other people having the same discussion at the front desk during our stay.
- The new room had the worst shower pressure though, it came out in a trickle. We didn't bother asking to get it fixed since we already moved room's once but showers took a while lol.
- Although the food was good (especially the Mexican restaurant!) it did get repetitive at the buffet as others said. Also, there were no labels to indicate what was gluten free at the buffet which would have been helpful. I am certain if I had asked, someone would have helped me out but as it's just an intolerance, I didn't want to be a bother every day. The Mexican restaurant did a great job showing me what was gluten free though.
- The beach space is really limited at the resort. Chairs are really close together and people get up early and place their towels out so we only got to sit in the front row / closest to the water once in 7 days. You were always able to get a chair though; if there weren't any free ones available someone would bring out more for you. And umbrellas as well.
Would still recommend the hotel but temper expectations on the above! The swimming space and the gorgeous views far outweighed the small beach space. If you like being in the water, it's still very much worth it.

We stayed at the Mia in December 2024 on our first visit to Isla Mujeres. The property is in need of repairs which were ongoing during our visit with minimal inconvenience. The location and views are Absolutely Spectacular. The beach area is small but beautiful. Beach crew is very helpful with umbrellas for shade and the water is warm, beautiful sand, a bit of snorkelling. It can be quite windy. All rooms either look back toward town and Playa Norte (just across the bridge) or north which is great for watching waves. Food was excellent. It is nice to have access to town for walking, touring, shopping, entertainment. The area is very safe. If you are looking for a fancy place, look elsewhere. If you want amazing views, scenery and a beautiful beach, this is your spot! King's Pool was only open on non-windy days and we asked at reception for them to open the gate. Pool area has very few seating areas and it is near the venting for the toilets and can be unpleasant at times. This property is recovering from a recent hurricane but is still in a Beautiful Spot!! Staff were very helpful, friendly and genuine and they helped us have a great stay.

Mia Reef was beautiful. It’s its own private island from the island itself making it very exclusive. All the staff are super attentive, informative, and helpful. Peter, Mike, Jerry, Jesus, Nancy, Gabriel, Roberto… And of course the whole staff were amazing! We stayed in the Delxue Villa Ocean Front Suite!...

We stayed in the Delxue Villa Ocean Front Suite! It was nice! It does need to be updated and the TV never really worked but for the most part no one stays in their room when on a vacation like that!
Food, drinks, services, amenities, beach 12/10!!!

We had the absolute best experience at the MIA Reef resort. The service was exceptional and the culture and environment was hands down the best we’ve experienced. JC, Ispra, Efza, Enoc, Andy, and Roberto gave us 10/10 service. all seemed to love their job, were eager, kind, remembered all our orders (we were a group of 6) and served us daily. The room was spotless and the staff cleaned it daily. The food at the restaurants was excellent, probably some of the best on the island, and we felt safe and welcomed. We cannot wait to come back!

The hotel location is excellent. Beautiful ocean to swim in. The rooms are efficient and very clean. I would like a bigger bed at least a queen, and softer fluffier pillows. The views from the room is beautiful. Nice to be able to walk into town and enjoy isla mujeres . The food is excellent at the buffet as well as a la carte. Service at all the restaurants and bars is excellent very professional . Entertainment is good. The only thing is I feel there should be more NO SMOKING signs . There is too many people smoking in the beach and the beach beds and entertainment centres. The hotel should enforce the no smoking Mexican laws more. I would highly recommend this resort

been here in the past, they really let it get run down. It's not the same and double what you would pay in Cancun. Food was just ok. No entertainment during the day, not much at night. No beach to walk on. We were hounded the entire time to buy into a time share. Someone broke into our room and left an empty beer in the trash can. Will not be back!

Isabel and Martin checked us in and were wonderful! They helped walk us through dinner options, hours of the pool and things to do in the area. We were here 30 years ago - the island has changed a lot but is still very real Mexico. Such a beautiful hotel!...
