What a vacation! We absolutely fell in love with this resort and how low key, natural and beautiful it was. It was a huge splurge for us so to not be nickel and dimed once we were there was a huge plus. Cabanas at the adult pool are first come, first serve and you don't have to run down early to get chairs which was amazing. Service at the pool was a little slow and could be improved. Complimentary fruit and coffee is set out at breakfast. We loved having the bikes to explore the property and all the different little beach areas. The beach is amazing and large. The whole resort feels empty even though they were at 90% capacity. Now that low key, quiet kind of vacation may not be for everyone but we loved it. The rooms are amazing and so clean. No TV which was weird at first but very nice to disconnect that way. I do agree with other reviews that the toilet area would make more sense with a more soundproof door. Overall service was great. The only restaurant we ate at was Moana and it was fabulous. We will be back. *Only thing of note would be that it's far from most other restaurants and shopping so if you want to explore you really need a car.

Stayed in Ocean front Hale, #8. Perfect ocean frontage, unencumbered view of the ocean. Unit 6 is also perfect ocean view and one of the original Hale locations. Rooms are Updated of course and the best part, ….no TV! Units 1-5 might be too close to family pool ( adult only preference ). Unit 5 being right on walking path but a solid view of the ocean. Just depends on the group but it seems more privacy starts 6 and wrapping around. See property map. Food on the property is good, not great. In room dining service, “sticky ribs” were the best. Solid Breakfast buffet @$55/person ( $35 for continental option) +22% gratuity auto added, is more than adequate with local fruits, pastries various egg and protein options. Plenty of selections.They also offer ala carte breakfast menu. Kahuwai Cookhouse is the Casual dining area which offers plenty of seafood and grilled protein options. Well staffed for lunch and dinner options. Awesome grill used here and Hawaii chicken dish was incredible. Morning coffee and fresh fruits are complimentary. Plenty of espresso options ( at a price ) and pastries are a nice touch as they start offering at 5:45 a.m. for those of us still mixed up on the time change and people departing early for day adventures. Hales are likely appointed the same. Our Ocean front was large with front porch sit down table and large couch for lounging and just taking in the ocean music. Two beautiful shower options independent of the stone/lava tub and dual sinks. Toilet area is set off but only with sliding louvre door. Not desirable. Even after 40 years with my spouse this design is too noisy and the only flaw in the room. Not sure of the design logic by NICOLEHOLLIS but a solid enclosure would be more acoustically appropriate. Sometimes I wonder if the designers and management actually stay on properties to test the rooms to identify what works and what doesn’t. Shanon/Devin at bell stand, Luna at front desk, Frank at coffee market, and many other friendly staffers are plentiful and I just don’t see “staff issues” as reported in other reviews. Keep in mind that this island has a calm vibe and is likely reflected accordingly. It won’t take long to adapt after a day or so. The adult pool is a huge plus as family pool was much busier than we anticipated. That said, adult pool area fills quickly but there are plenty of lounge chair options on the beach. And all right next to cool “Shipwreck bar” for adult beverages and food. Did not have, but the Sushi looked amazing! If you Do Not want a “hotel” this is an awesome, VERY ECO sustainable property and the place. Not inexpensive but not sure luxury or 5 star selections should ever qualify as an option for a “budget” traveler. Prices were in line with any luxury ISLAND resort. It is what it is! I want to start off by saying that we have stayed at other Rosewood property and this one is not it. My husband and I had never been to any of the Hawaiian islands. I turned to a friend who grew up going to Kona for advice on what to do/where to stay. She said stay at the Four Seasons, I said I want to go to Rosewood because I know the brand and they know how to treat their guests. I should have listened to my friend. We had such high hopes that this resort would be the typical Rosewood experience that we initially were planning this trip to be our way of making sure this is where we want to start coming on family vacations with our two young daughters. Thank goodness we came ourselves to scope things out first. I’ll start with the good — the resort property is beautiful. The layout, landscaping, etc. is very nice to look at. The rooms are all individual “hales”, no shared walls which is great. And that concludes the good. As beautiful as the property is at quick glance, once you look closer, it gives off the “we ran out of money” vibe. Like no paved paths at all, just crushed gravel like what gets put down BEFORE concrete gets laid. Walking all over the resort in flip flops, as one does in Hawaii, on this crushed rock path was not great. The fact that they even offer bicycles for guests to use astounds me because there are massive grooves all over the place to add to the hazard that loose gravel already is in the first place. Not that it mattered, since no usable bikes were ever available.   None of the rooms have TVs. At first this seemed like the kitschy move of saying “these grounds are so beautiful, you’re not here to watch TV” and made us feel like we were the problem for expecting a TV to be in the room of a very expensive, brand new resort. Then we started to think that maybe it was actually a money saving move (“we ran out of money” vibe again) and most people of the economic bracket able to afford to stay at a place like this would never dream of complaining about something as lowly as a television in their room. Well, we brought this up at the “Island Roots” dinner table among other guests to which everyone admitted to using their iPads every night to unwind and watch their shows which to be blunt - sucks. We should be able to lay in our hotel bed and watch an actual TV on the wall, not balance an iPad between us on the bed. The room was on theme with the resort itself - pretty to look at, but look a little closer and it’s motel 6 quality at Four Seasons prices. The pillows were horrific and I’m not exaggerating when I say I have had to have numerous massages and Flexeril to try to undo the damage the pillows caused my neck. There were two options - firm, which was essentially like resting your head on two stacked cinder blocks, or soft, which was like resting your head on a slice of Wonder bread. The bathroom doors are not solid. They are slatted doors. May God have mercy on the sweet couple away for their first vacation together and one gets some bad mayo in their poke bowl. Hope no one is ever shy about the sounds that come out of them in the bathroom… Housekeeping was erratic. It was like the entire housekeeping team came in for a single four hour shift every day. We would be gone all day long, come back to the room in late afternoon and the room would still not be serviced. Then once they finally came to do the daily housekeeping, they would start hounding us about when they could get back into the room to do turndown service. The place must also have a great washcloth/laundry shortage as well. No less than three times did I take a shower after a long hike in the desert and have to wash myself with my hands because there were zero washcloths in the room. Now onto the service. The first interaction we had with a Rosewood service worker was Chad, the bellhop. We had had a 20 hour travel day and were just so relieved to finally get to our destination. Chad informed us after driving us the equivalent of maybe one city block in a golf cart that he “had Venmo if that’s easier for you”. Chad wanted to make sure we didn’t forget his tip. Thank you, Chad, for setting the tone for what was to come on our vacation. We ordered room service one morning. Overnight oats, chia pudding, pastries and coffee. Literally nothing needed to be prepared other than the coffee. I was told this would arrive in 30 minutes. Even that seemed like a long time but ok. After an hour nothing had arrived and we needed to leave. I called to cancel the order and was met with a response of “ok I’ll cancel it”. Not even an attempt at a forced customer service apology. Getting service near the beach was like pulling teeth. One day we felt lucky to have gotten a server that seemed to actually care about her job. Then she suddenly never came back. So my husband went over to the bar to get our drinks himself and start a second tab since we had no idea what was going on with the one we already started. Finally after a couple hours, a new server came by and asked if I needed anything. I told her we needed to cash out our tab we had started with the previous waitress. She informed me that that waitress had already cashed it out before she left. I said “I never signed anything” to which she said “I’ll check on it” and never came back. The bill was in fact cashed out and the server tipped herself without our authorization. But hey — shift was over, right?! The service at our other Rosewood stays was what made us choose Rosewood for this vacation. The attitudes among the service workers at this resort were apathetic at best. We were at Shipwreck bar on Super Bowl Sunday and spent hours listening to the bartender complain to his customers about his pay/tips. He then complained several times that he was working past his end of shift time of 6pm. On another night we were at the Talk Story bar to have an after dinner drink. On this night, we got to hear the bartender tell her story of learning how to surf “in tandem with a gorgeous 25 year old man who told me he had never had sex”. Not exactly the polished service Rosewood is known for.   Inconsistency in menus was also a theme of the resort. One morning we went to breakfast and were able to order from a menu. Another morning we were told there’s no menu, only a buffet. Based on the lack of servers in the Moana restaurant, I would venture to say that this buffet breakfast is yet another corner cutting move to try to work around the fact that the resort is terribly understaffed with mostly sloppy, bad attitude workers. Rather than cut down on occupancy allowances or hire more, better workers, or spend time training the ones there better — have the guests that are spending no less than 5 figures to stay at the resort get up and serve themselves rubbery eggs and lukewarm waffles. Again - motel 6 quality, Four seasons prices. Speaking of Four Seasons — we went over there for dinner three times and were treated like royalty. The experience we thought we would get at Rosewood, and we weren’t even guests of the resort. Our final day at Rosewood we were booked for a Sunrise canoe excursion. This is something we had booked 5 days in advance as we were told they were completely booked solid. We arrived at the activities cabana at 6:50am as we were told only to be met with the news that the excursion was not happening due to contaminated water. Obviously the contaminated water is out of their hands. What they did comment on was how they “would have called to let us know it was canceled, but it’s pretty early to be making phone calls”. So instead, have your guests on vacation pull themselves off their uncomfortable pillows, scramble to get dressed and put on sunscreen, trek over on the unpaved pathway and THEN be given that information? So as to not bother us with a phone call? Our final experience was truly par for the course of the week at Rosewood Kona Village. We called for a bellhop to come get our bags for check out. We were met with yet another person who couldn’t have cared less about her job. Barely said two words to us. She drove too fast over one of the many pot holes on the pathway and my husband’s aluminum Away suitcase flew off the back of the cart. She stopped the cart and looked back without even a thought of getting up and retrieving the bag. As my husband ran back to get his suitcase, she picked up his backpack from the back of the cart, which contained his laptop and iPad, and slammed it down into a different part of the back of the golf cart. When my husband came back with his now damaged and scratched up suitcase, the only thing she said was, “well now I’m going to drive real slow”. Once we finally made it to check out we were told “I just charged it all to the card on file” without a single question about how our stay was. We had hoped this would be our go-to family vacation spot. Instead, we spent most of the trip avoiding the resort altogether. We are loyal travelers and like to find a place and return often once we get to know it. We had high hopes to bring our kids here for a full family vacation. Rosewood Kona Village was a massive disappointment.

2- I agree with COrick’s comments 100%. The grounds and rooms are beautiful. That said, service, food and general attitude of employees is awful. I can’t tell you how many missteps we experienced- from check in, to front desk service, to food service, to beach service ( non existent).

The management and staff at Kona Village are exceptional. Our 4 night stay was the best we’ve ever experienced, and we travel a lot so this is quite a compliment! The staff knew our names, were beyond accommodating and anticipated our every desire. The accommodations were luxurious and tranquil, we didn’t want to leave. Beautiful ocean views, high quality linens and robes, daily use of the spa, golf carts and bikes to easily explore the grounds, delicious dining and cocktails, live entertainment, superior staff and clearly very well managed as the staff’s morale was off the charts. There’s so much more to love about Kona Village! Every chaise and cabana was available to us at no additional charge. Thick cushions, pool side service, complimentary sun screen, hourly treats such as frozen watermelon offered to help us stay cool. We loved the adult only Infiniti pool with the sushi bar a few steps away. The entire place is tranquil and heavenly. We can’t wait to go back!

Rosewood Kona is well worth the journey from NY (or from anywhere you are in the world). Gorgeous resort with a true Hawaiian Ohana vibe. This is the place for total zen and relaxation. We stayed in Tree Top Hale #111. Fantastic!! Spacious living space, and super large balcony/patio facing the ocean through the trees. Super bathroom, with a tub and outdoor shower. Great way to start and end the day. It actually took me four days to realize there wasn't a tv in the room! HA! Now that's relaxing! All of the dining venues were fantastic, as was all of the cuisine, wines and cocktails. Breakfast included with AMEX FHR was whatever your heart desired. Don't forget the SPAM! Sign up for the free outrigger tour, the guys there are very knowledgeable, kind and lots of fun. Definitely go to the fabulous spa, and get a treatment. The spa and their team will and even more peace and relation to your holiday. The management hosted a Ohana style cocktail/canapes hour that was enjoyed by everyone, kids too! Really a true Hawaiian way to bring everyone together and have FUN! I'm sure you'll rent a car (Alamo), and the Rosewood provided free self parking and valet services. Go and explore the Big Island. Our celebration visit was one to remember, we want to thank our friends Daniel & Maria Jose and their entire five star staff including: Maria, Kahlil, Nicah, Cindy, Marcus, Tierra, Mariah and Jesse. This time we stayed at hale 4 with great ocean and sunset view, the lanai faces a main walking path if you prefer more privacy might try a different hale, it is very close to pool, restaurants, and spa. Seems more guest are now staying at Kona Village, which is great, however they might be short staff and some amenities/services are less polish.

My husband and I stayed for at Kona Village for 9 days in January in the tree top hale. The resort is only a couple of years old, and feels fresh and new, although they still have some kinks to work out. I'm not sure I would stay here again....

My husband and I stayed for at Kona Village for 9 days in January in the tree top hale. The resort is only a couple of years old, and feels fresh and new, although they still have some kinks to work out. I'm not sure I would stay here again. The grounds are stunning, probably the best part of the place! Located right on the beach, really incredible how close you are! We wore sandals all of the time and it’s worth noting sand will constantly get in your shoes, even at the restaurants. The whole resort feels very serene and private. We stayed in the tree top hale, which is a great value option (between the basic lagoon view and oceanfront view). There are only 5 tree top hales, and each one is centrally located in the resort, extremely close to the pool, but situated far enough back where it is quiet. It was super convenient and easy to walk to the beach and restaurants. The view from the lanai is incredibly peaceful and some of my favorite parts of the trip were spent lounging out there. The room itself is nicely designed and well appointed. Service is where Kona Village really fell short. There were a number of mistakes to our billing, found upon checkout. I read other reviews to take pictures of your receipts, and I'm so glad I did, as two meals were charged to our hale number that we never authorized!! We also requested a change to our reservation, and we had to talk to about 5 different people, some of them multiple times, over many hours, before the situation was resolved. This took up most of a day, and was super frustrating to say the least. There definitely is a major staffing problem and something to be aware of if you decide to visit. Staffing issues also showed up frequently at the restaurants. Many times there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant, and food took a painfully long time to arrive. Additionally, the food was overall lousy, with very few healthy options. To sum up, a beautiful resort, comfortable new rooms, but slow service and terrible food. Not sure I would stay there again.

The property is peaceful, the Hales private, and the food was superb. We stayed in an Oceanfront Hale- number 61 and had incredible sunsets. Amenities were plentiful. We mostly spent time at the adult pool or beach and never had any wait securing chairs. The cabanas at the pool are first come, which is a welcome treat compared to other resorts. We enjoyed the walking and biking from our Hale to restaurants and pools, so leave the heels at home. Shout out to the water sports group. We did the morning canoe trip twice and it is a wonderful way to begin the day. Other staff were always pleasant and welcoming. This property is definitely on the return list.

Went for a quick trip to celebrate a birthday and decided to try out Kona Village as we had walked past the Tsunami damaged resort many times while staying at the Four Seasons which is right next door. It was fun to find some old friends from other Rosewood properties on the staff who treated us like family and are putting the same kind of dedication into this property as other Rosewoods we have visited, all with the highest level of service. They have kept much of the original footprint and style with each room being it's own private hale set in expansive grounds that include tropic plants, lagoon areas, green lawns, lava fields, and a wide black sand beach. We have stayed at quite a few of The Big Island Hotels and would say this property is the nicest overall. The rooms are luxurious, modern and understated. The beach has good swimming access, all kinds of complimentary equipment from snorkel gear to stand up boards. There are three restaurants and several bars with food options from Sushi to high end steaks etc. You can also easily walk over to the FS which has several very good restaurants. The fitness center is large and well equipped, I did not use the spa. From what I saw the keiki club was popular with the kids that were there. Aside from the individual hales there are several large hales, up to four bedroom, that would be great for families and the resort itself is a wonderful place for kids. There is an adult pool and a kids pool, both large and nice. The resort is quite spread out and there are bicycles all over the place to make it speedy which we really enjoyed. If you have limited mobility it would be wise to speak to someone at the resort about getting a room in the more central area. Glad to see Kona Village back in the mix and we will definitely be back!

Our experience at Rosewood Kona Village was outstanding. Overall (despite a few service lapses) this was a spectacular trip that met + exceeded our expectations. I had been looking forward to this "birthday" trip for MONTHS and spent hours researching, discussing, etc. I would HIGHLY suggest booking your trip here through a luxury level/experienced TA. It made all the difference with the service/perks/additional gift card etc.... Also, simply having an advocate with a direct line to management while we were there was priceless and so incredibly helpful. I've often enjoyed the travel planning process myself, but for this level of property I would never ever book on my own but rely on a TA to fully maximize the experience and VFM. Property/Greeting: 10 Simply Breathtaking. My first time at RKV but the friends we travelled with had been here twice in the past during the orignal phase pre tsunami. They were thrilled with the outcome of KV 2.080 acres but it did not feel overwhelming in size at all. The landscaping was gorgeous and so well done, including the large putting green grassy areas that were so lovely and incredibly calming. I especially loved the placement of the majestic Ki'i (tiki's) throughout the property and how there was just a beautiful and organic "flow" to the property once you had your bearings. Our greeting from Far at reception really set the tone. She was so lovely, gracious and warm in the most genuine way. The sincerity of her welcome, acknowledgment of my birthday and overall excitement with seeing us excited to be at RKV made for the best sense of ALOHA immediately upon arrival. The sense of place here is phenomenal. I felt "it" immediately and could not have been more pleased/relaxed with our choice of RKV. Rooms: 10 DESIGN heaven. I am a big fan of Nicole Hollis, the SF based designer who was in charge of the interior design so it was not surprising that I fell head over heels in love with the aesthetic choices. We stayed in a TREETOP Hale (#108) and our friends stayed in an OCEANFRONT Hale (#5). My partner and I really enjoyed the location of the TT hale (so central) and really enjoyed the treehouse aspect/vantage point. We had a view over the property with the ocean in the background from the lanai and then the most glorious mountain view from the back/outdoor shower. Our friends had a direct/front row view to the ocean (very close to one of the beautiful Ki'i (tiki's) and for them the location was perfect for their needs with a close location to the MOANA pool. The layout was perfect for us and all of the details were on point (artwork, small ceramic object d'art, linens, art + design books, etc)HUGE bathroom and although we are "shower guys" I took a bath in the beautiful tub almost every night! So incredibly comfortable with a thoughtfully placed bath pillow + calming local bath salts to truly relax. We tend to overpack and this time was no different (lol)...but we had plenty of drawer storage space along with hanging space. Big plus for us.I had read that the mattresses and pillows were super soft. I was a bit concerned pre-trip as I am definitely more of a firm mattress + firm down pillow kind of person. In the end , was the mattress on the soft side? Yes. Was it ultimately uncomfortable? Not at all. In fact while I may not be purchasing this mattress, my body pleasantly adjusted to it over the week and I slept very well. The same with the feather pillows. I ended up needing 2/3 to really have my sweet spot but it worked quite well in the end. We used the a/c on occasion (mostly at night) but the rest of the time the ceiling fans worked beautifully with an open lanai door to create a soothing/gentle breeze (along with distant waves + sweet birdsong constantly - loved that). I looked at many other room categories and while I loved our TT hale I can imagine finding something to love about virtually any hale location depending on individual needs/expectations. This really must be one of the most beautiful room products in all of Hawaii. Unforgettable. Service: 7.5 This has been a work in progress since the opening and I really feel they are getting there but definitely not consistently "there". We spoke with Daniel (the GM) for quite some time during the weekly cocktail party and he seemed very aware of this but realized that they need to be at a "10" consistently and not below that for this caliber of Rosewood hotel. Service for the most part was good, with the intentions and vocal response always "YES" and full of sincerity but fails occured. Mostly small things...no salt & pepper at table and then asking for them and they do not arrive, a mini fridge requested by our TA (and again verified when he was on property before our stay) and then no mini fridge on arrival. In the end we received it but it simply should have been there. Housekeeping was GREAT with the actual task (the room was always spotless) but very hit or miss with the timing of cleaning the rooms. After noticing that on the 2nd day the room had still not been cleaned until 3pm I spoke with reception and asked that housekeeping tend to our Hale every day between 9 -11 am. This was adhered to until our second to the last day when no one had cleaned the room until well after 3pm and we had to call again. Frustrating. Our friends in the Oceanfront Hale had even more issues than us with getting their Hale cleaned in a timely manner. Definitely room for improvement. Food: 9 As we read (and were expecting) the food and drinks are VERY good but also quite expensive. Typical Rosewood pricing and we certainly adjusted to this but be prepared and let go! MOANA for breakfast ending up being our favorite meal time/venue of the entire day/trip. This gets a "10". The first day a few services fails, but from then on we were happy to be served by Mollie from Massachusetts every day. Another STAR and her service level should be commended. Breakfast became a highlight not only because of the food but because of Mollie. We literally worked our way through the majority of the menu and loved almost everything from classic breakfast fare all the way to the Bento Box experience. The pastries each day were lovely (especially the malasadas (simple + yummy!). Through our TA we had a $150 breakfast credit each day and this felt very fair and more than enough to have a filling/lovely breakfast. In fact, we almost always skipped lunch since we were so satisfied with breakfast. We enjoyed the special dinners of Paniolo Night and Island Roots but would probably only do Paniolo Night again and eat more lightly. These are expensive options, but given the quality + volume of ingredients not a deal breaker for holiday special event dining. We had plenty of conversations with the friendly new head chef Robert and it sounds like he has wonderful plans for growth + consistency with any dining options. Extras & activities/Misc.: 10 KILO KAI (water sports) - SPECTACULAR! Every team member there was 5 stars! We participated in a number of free and paid activities and each was incredible. The guys made a point of knowing our first names and greeting us all so sincerely throughout the week. So memorable and a highlight for us talking story with them and hearing their pride + knowledge with the island/history/mythology. A big shoutout to management for including SO many activities as complimentary felt so ALOHA and actually encouraged us to get involved with the paid activities. I hope this never goes away. The sunrise paddle in the outrigger was magical as was the sailing snorkel and the SEABOBS were an absolute blast. So much fun diving below the ocean to get close up views of all the sea life. We worked out frequently and were super impressed with the equipment and options of indoor or outdoor workouts. Very special environment and high caliber cardio equipment. We wanted to play tennis + pickleball but aside from looking at the courts never made it. Next time. Also, another shout out that these activities are FREE and included.  SPA - really gorgeous buildings/locker rooms + facilities. I ended up getting a 90 minute massage that was perfect and very enjoyable. So nice to know that had I not paid for the massage , I still had access to all of the spa facilities. We enjoyed both pools depending on the vibe we were looking for but found both locations to be lovely and somewhat quiet/calm. It was super easy to always find a perfect area/loungers. No stress EVER with this.  I swam in the ocean often and really enjoyed swimming out to the raft they have placed to relax and take in the ocean surroundings. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I genuinely enjoyed the small beach area here.We rode the complimentary bikes constantly and loved having this option for seeing the property, getting around and simply getting some low key exercise. Very satisfying + enjoyable. COCONUT O'Clock - So FUN! They come around with a cart of coconuts and you can indulge with or without rum added. Silly and FUN!  Also, we loved the constant fruit popsicle treats that would magically appear during afternoons at the pool. In the end we truly loved our stay here and will be planning another trip in 2025.  We did walk over to the 4S next door and while we appreciated the product they offer (and we did hear from a fellow guest that was staying at KV and then moving to 4S that the service at 4S is consistently 100% on point)....ultimately for us, KV won our hearts. The 4S has a very different feel... very luxe, but in my opinion not quite the same "sense of place" vibe that absolutely jumped out to us at KV.

The Island Roots dinner is not to be missed. Kona Village is perfect both for couples and families. The two pool areas provided ample area for families while the adult area was perfect for couples. We were there during full occupancy and you would not have known. The resort never felt full or overcrowded. The sunsets are amazing. The entire team genuinely is concerned with the guests having a special vacation. Without a doubt, the best property in Hawaii.

This was our best resort experience to date! WWe celebrated my 50th with only the top of the line…Our hale was total perfection. The solitude, space, top end appointments, bathroom shower and tub (indoor and out) was No Ka Oi! Every single resort staff and Ohana was courteous, greeted with a wave and an Aloha and a smile. Our room service and turn down service was exceptional. The Island Roots dining event is highly recommended…the food, family style dining in a magical setting with Kona Village Ohana was an incredible experience. Paniolo night offered great service and food, but the local live music highlighted the spirit. Management at Moana Resturant made us feel like family, and the octopus was our favorite! Beach side and pool side were both comfortable, and the ahi nachos were a fave. But this place is so classy, their well tequila is beloved Fortaleza, chefs’ kiss all the way around. Snorkeling was awesome, SUPs are available for use also, along with so many other ways to enjoy the special waters!! Every touch was appreciated, from birthday wishes and amenities, to bike usage, quiet hot tub mornings, private beach and gathering areas near the hale, in room full bar, jumbo beach towels, magnet collections, and more! Thank you! We will be back and look forward to spending our next special occasion with you!

Staff are so friendly, food is amazing, the property is unbelievably stunning and thoughtful. We come back here twice a year! We’ve stayed at or visited most hotels on the Big Island and this is by far our favorite! You will get an authentic Hawaiian experience here!

Absolute perfection from the stunning accommodations to the gorgeous scenery and landscaping to the superlative service offered everywhere on the property. This resort is a dream location for a honeymoon or a romantic escape. It’s spread out and not overcrowded. We especially loved our outdoor shower in our beautifully decorated room with our enchanting view of nature facing the lagoon. Service by the friendly staff was top notch at both restaurants as well as housekeeping. They always checked daily as to what time we wanted the room cleaned. The Kona Village surpasses all the other Big Island resorts by leaps and bounds. My only constructive comment would be to offer a larger variety of bed pillows than just super soft or super hard. We loved every minute of our stay!

I love the Big Island, and I wanted my husband to enjoy a really special stay during his first visit to Hawaii. I managed to get a great deal at Kona Village, and overall it was really, really nice. The individual hales (huts??) are all new and really lovely, and the outdoor shower was incredible. Our hale had a view across a pond to the mountains, and it was so pleasant to sit on the porch and look up at the hills. My husband was duly impressed with the beautifully appointed, luxurious room. The grounds are very pretty, but the plantings are still immature. I'll look forward to seeing it when things are more established. The food? eh, not so much. But that's not unique to this property. I've had lots of disappointing meals at various Big Island hotels. We wound up having our meals off-property for the most part. (We really liked the Temple Bar in Kona -- great cocktails.) So -- lovely room, nice setting, pleasant staff, better food elsewhere. And if you can find a good deal (we made our reservations during a Black Friday sale), it's excellent value for a deluxe resort on the Kona side.

Despite me pre-paying for my room, they had no record of my reservation. I made the reservation through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. Instead of helping me figure out what happened and believing me when I showed them screen shots of my reservation and payment receipt, they did not believe me and instead charged me an additional $4500. I’m trying to get the charge reversed but they wont help and are making me jump through numerous hoops. Not five star service - not even close. Thankfully Amex is on it and actually provided five star service.

Overall: The hardware (room, hotel grounds, amenities) is great but the software (housekeeping, restaurant service) is inconsistent and desperately needs improvement to justify the cost, and falls short in comparison with other 5-star hotels. What we loved: Lona from check-in was personable and great. We stayed at a King tree top hale and the room is new/clean and close to all the amenities. We loved walking around the hotel and enjoying the view. The hotel grounds are beautifully manicured and all staff we met were friendly. Needs improvement: 1. First night dinner service at Moana was slow. We didn’t get our drinks for almost 30 mins, and only after we have finished the first appetizer. We also overheard the table next to us complaining the pork chop they ordered was 1/3 the size compared to the night before. 2. At check-in, front desk asked us to provide preferred time for turn-down/housekeeping. We wrote 7:30pm for turndown as that was when our Moana reservation was (which the reservation was made by front desk). We came back to the room at 8:45pm and the room was still not turned down yet. Housekeeping stopped by at 9pm asking to turn down, and we declined as it was too late for us. 3. Breakfast at Moana the next day had subpar food, especially when compared to the 5-star hotels we just stayed at in Thailand and Japan. The second day’s breakfast was much better, it was just inconsistent. 4. Housekeeping kept forgetting to discard the trash and leaving it inside the room. This happened to both the day and night housekeeping service. The morning crew left toilet paper wrapper on our desk, and the night crew left the bathroom trash and towels on the floor inside the room. The welcoming drinks/food from arrival was left outside our room for 3 days with nobody picking it up. 5. Nobody answered the phone when we dialed “0” and guest services button on the phone. We tried twice and waited for 2 mins on the phone before giving up. We ended up walking to the front desk to request what we need. Overall, I would not return to this property until they improve the service quality. The issues we encountered are unacceptable for a 5-star hotel. It was especially bad when compared to the other 5-star hotels we stayed at in Bangkok and Tokyo a month ago + other Rosewood properties around the world.
