Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

We recently stayed at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana over the holidays as a family of five and had an overall good experience, with some standout positives and a few frustrating drawbacks. Pros: • Service: The staff is attentive and responsive. Any issue we brought up was addressed quickly, which we appreciated. • Breakfast Buffet: One of the highlights. varied, fresh, and well-executed. • Kids Club: Huge win for us. The staff is warm, the activities are engaging, and they even feed the kids lunch and dinner. Our kids loved going. • Water Park: A major hit! The kids had a blast and the food served there was surprisingly decent. • Kids’ Drinks: They loved being able to swim up to the bar and order their own (non-alcoholic) drinks—it made them feel special. • Nighttime Shows: High-energy and fun for the whole family. • Tempest (Hibachi Restaurant): Excellent—one of the best meals we had on-site. • Ambiance/Layout: Spacious, upscale feel without being over the top. The resort is beautifully laid out. • Beach: Gorgeous and expansive. The stretch from the hotel to the water is long, clean, and scenic. • Gym: Truly top-notch - best we’ve seen at any resort. • Themed Nights: Added variety and atmosphere with dinners and entertainment outdoors. Cons: • Housekeeping: Rooms weren’t cleaned thoroughly—floors often felt dirty underfoot. Toiletries were sometimes empty or broken and not replaced. On multiple days, housekeeping service was either completely missed or arrived very late (as late as 5 PM), despite the expectation of both cleaning and turndown service. • Food (Overall): This was our biggest letdown. Chinola was underwhelming across all meals. Lunch options lacked variety and quality. Pizza was consistently undercooked and doughy, even when we asked for it well done. • Drinks: Mixed drinks were just OK. Not much consistency or flair. • Towels: Always short on bath towels, and the ones we had were stiff and scratchy. • Pools: Not heated, which made them too cold to enjoy during our NYE stay. • Room Maintenance: Low water pressure in the shower, and bathroom lights were unreliable. • Anniversary Miss: We received an email promising a small anniversary gesture (banner, dessert, wine) but nothing was ever done or acknowledged. Not a big deal, but if you’re not going to follow through, it’s better not to offer. • Communication: Lots of miscommunication around what’s happening when and where. Staff didn’t always have accurate info. • General Maintenance: Some areas need attention (e.g., water leaking from the ceiling in the club-level women’s bathroom). ⸻ Final Thoughts: We had a good time overall, and the service, amenities for kids, and general resort atmosphere were strong. That said, the food and maintenance issues made it feel a notch below the level it aims to be at. We came in with really high expectations based on glowing reviews and personal recommendations, so some of the shortcomings were more noticeable as a result. With some improvements, it could easily be a top-tier family resort. Would consider returning, but probably not over a peak holiday period unless we hear they’ve made some upgrades in key areas.

There were many wonderful parts tobthis resort. The rooms are comfortable abd there are tons if activities. There is almost too much happening here, it is almost mania with all of the activities and people. It is a good choice for inter generational travel. The food is ok. At times decent abd at times inedible. The service is variable as well. Some of the staff is lovely and warm. Some seems burnt out.

Amado from the activity team at Hyatt Ziva was absolutely fantastic! His energy, friendliness, and genuine enthusiasm made every activity more fun and engaging. He went out of his way to make guests feel welcome and included, always bringing great vibes and a positive attitude. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, and it made a big difference in our overall experience. We stayed at a master suit with semi-private pool, which was awesome concept. We could swim just stepping out of the room. Room was clean, beds were comfortable, linen was of good quality. Pools were clean, and well maintained. A lot of entertainments for kids. We liked all events, spa experience was amazing. For my taste Ziva was too loud comparing to Zilara, I would expect rock concert to take place in adults only resort, not in a resort for families with kids. All restaurants had great food, except El Mercado, this was a buffet ,but almost all food there was cooked somewhere than frozen, and restaurant only warmed it up. For such a resort I expected breakfast food to be fresh, and cooked before serving.

This was our 3rd stay at this property since it opened in 2019. Martin our butler was amazing and took care of everything for us. The pools are beautiful and so is the beach. They have added a smoothie stand for the mornings but it is not advertised. The food is not good. I used to enjoy the breakfast buffet but now everything is behind glass and you need a person to get it for you. Its annoying to not be able to do it yourself. I wish I could take my kids to eat on the adult side at least maybe to the steakhouse.

We had the best time here! Everything was so clean and airy. They combed the beach daily to get the seaweed, but there wasn’t that much (in my opinion) to make a big deal about. Every single person we encountered during our stay was friendly, happy, accommodating, etc. We were treated like family, for real. My children, and my husband really, became well-known throughout the resort. My youngest had an allergic reaction to the sun/chlorine/salt water combo so we sought out the medical professional on site. They were amazing in helping treat her and, afterwards, all the staff we had encountered up to that point were waiting outside to see how she was doing. I couldn’t believe it! We loved the food, though we didn’t make it to all of the restaurants. El Mercado came in clutch when my kids were being typical picky young kids and we were able to get some chicken fingers with fries. We were sad to leave all of the amazing people we met! Christopher, Scarlet, Javier, Melvin, Bladimir, Matos, all of the housekeeping staff, all of the hostesses, all the people at Coffee Republic…we will miss you and we hope to be back someday!!

The butler service is next level—service on steroids! Simply send a text message and voilà—a butler responds immediately or appears right away. It’s amazing to always have someone available to assist and address anything you may need while on the property. I cannot wait to return. Yes, it’s pricey, but absolutely worth every penny—money well spent for a vacation filled with luxury, style, and royal-level treatment. Love, love it!

Went to Hyatt Ziva Cap cana for the second time now the kids are older ( 5 and 4). Last time we went was (2 and 7months). First, would like to shout out gleny and Yeny and Juan at the lobby bar. Great conversations and Spanish teachers as well! Kids loved the popsicle bar and adults enjoyed the coffee bar. Great selections and always available. The beach is beautiful and they do a good job at cleaning up the seaweed. Note to those that go in the water- the sand is like clay. Feels weird and smells like poop. A little research will tell you it’s from the seaweed decaying mixed with sand. Nature I suppose. Kids didn’t like it but just something to adjust to when you go in the water. Pool is immaculate as always. Kids loved swimming. Food for all inclusive is great. Clean- and they serve everything so nothing for you to grab yourself which contributes to keeping the buffet area spotless. Water park is awesome. Highly recommend resort. Pricy but worth it. Only wish they had more restaurant options. Favorite restaurant was the Mongolian bbq option at tempest. Cheers!

This was our 3rd time here and it was just as good as the first 2. We'd go back again anytime. It feels like home. Our kids remember each time we go and its turned into our annual Christmas trip. Its hard to risk going to another place. Our family immediately found other people from around the world to connect with which made it a great time. There's no fighting for chairs or a rush for anytime.

We had an amazing stay at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel so welcome and taken care of. The resort is beautiful with pristine beaches, stunning pools, and spacious grounds. Everything was clean and thoughtfully designed. It is perfect for families with kids, with plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. A special thank you to Ana Payano, who made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this resort for a relaxing and fun family getaway in Punta Cana.

My husband and I traveled to the Dominican Republic to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana seemed like a great place to stay. In retrospect, I might have booked on the Zillara side (adults only connected property) but watching kids play was actually kind of fun since our kids are older. We did purchase the club level package and found that the private pool and lobby area with snacks and a bar was useful and worth the up-charge. The food at the various restaurants was good, but not great. One of the best things we had was the burger and you can order that to go at Presto/Pronto or as a meal at a couple of the restaurants. There was also a surf and turf special one night at the Navigator that was great. The best waiter we had was at the Navigator, Jean-- he was fabulous. At the club level, you supposedly have a butler that is supposed to help with anything that you need, but we saw him only when we checked in and checked out. I am sure we could have found him if we needed something, but we kept it pretty lowkey. The club level pool also has sunscreen, aloe, and lens wipes available. This was great because I carried on a bag and didn't want to buy sunscreen there. Tips-- despite this being an "all inclusive" resort, there did seem to be an expectation of tipping employees. I didn't love that because if it is all included, it should just be included, but we played the game. We tipped housekeeping and the attendants at the pool who would bring us the drinks we ordered-- usually a dollar or two each time. We had a couple of issues-- we paid for an ocean view balcony which was gorgeous, but the first night we were there, the main lights in our room turned on the last 10 minutes of every hour. It was infuriating. We called maintenance first thing in the morning and they said they fixed it, but it happened again. We called again, they came again, "fixed" it again...and then the lights came back on. After the third or fourth time, we went down to the club lounge and asked for help. They said they'd send maintenance-- we said that has already been tried, multiple times. They wanted to try again. We asked for a new room and ultimately were given one. There weren't any ocean view rooms left, so they gave us a swim up room. Honestly, if you're debating between the two room types, I would advise the ocean view balcony. The swim up was nice, but there isn't a lot of airflow on that patio so the bugs were crazy. The patio also got full sun for almost the entire day, so it was too hot to stay there and we went to the pool for some shade anyway. The other issue we had was ultimately resolved, and I hesitate to detail it here because it wasn't necessarily nefarious and ultimately worked out, but some money fell out of my husband's pocket when we were eating in one of the restaurants. We didn't realize it until we got back to our room (and proceeded to search high and low). We went back to the restaurant to ask if anyone had found the cash (about $60) and at first were told no. When I asked if I could go look around the area where we were sitting, our waiter approached, handed over the money and said he found it in my husband's chair after our meal. At first I was just super grateful that someone found it and gave a tip to our waiter. But after we left and I started thinking about it, it occurred to me that they knew who we were and what room we were in (since you give that information at the restaurants before you're seated) so could have easily returned the cash. They did return it, and perhaps would have later in the day without us asking if we hadn't come back looking for it, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. I am not accusing any wrongdoing, especially since we got the money back, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. There is a waterpark on the property. We checked it out, did the lazy river, and went back. It was neat and if you have kids, they will love it. Outside of the normal pool enjoyment noises, we never had any issue with crowds or noises. Our room was quiet and cool (and I am not a sound sleeper which is why the lights turning on all night the first night was the worst). I rarely heard anything from the rooms around us, maybe water turning on elsewhere when you are in the bathroom but I slept soundly and peacefully once we were in a room where the lights stayed off :) Bottom line, the property is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the food is decent. The property is about 20 minutes from the airport and behind a couple of security gates so we felt safe. We had a great long weekend, relaxing by the pool and enjoying the warmth and sunshine. There was some great entertainment, too! Get a Miami Vice at the pool. It is delicious!

The Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is in a league of its own. The resort is beautiful, the food in every single restaurant/buffet/coffee shop is amazing, and more amenities than you can possibly take advantage of, with new special events and activities happening every single day. The gym is hands down the best gym on any resort - it’s massive with any equipment you could want - and clean and tidy! Pools are clean and the way they are designed still make them feel private no matter where you are. The beach is beautiful. White sand, turquoise waters. A bit of seaweed in the mornings but they are quick to bring the trucks out to clean it up. But it’s the people here that make this place stand out over every other resort we’ve been to. This was our second time visiting the Ziva Cap Cana. Every single person on the team is amazing and to watch this place run is an experience in itself. Everyone is so well trained and cares about their jobs and the guests at the resort. The smallest things that most wouldn’t even notice. There is no job too small for anyone. Senior management is helping to clear dishes in the buffet when it’s busy, delivering food at the pool, gathering garbage. Within seconds of rain starting, all staff mobilize and wet floor signs are out and mopping has started. They set up and take down special events in minutes! We had a wobbly table at the Italian restaurant, we barely wobbled it twice before a waiter noticed and came running to fix it. I saw someone drop a ketchup packet on the floor of the buffet and I specifically watched to see how long it would take someone to find it and pick up - less than 15 seconds!! These are all small things but when the bigger stuff is a given, this is the level of service that sets them apart. The staff are so aware at ALL times. This place is seriously impressive to see everything in action. And 99% of it happens behind the scenes where guests don’t even notice which is the ultimate magic of any luxury resort. My in-laws had an issue with hot water in their shower - within one hour of mentioning it the entire shower head and faucet system had been replaced and the staff came back to the pool and notified us it had been fixed. The following day, a meat and cheese platter with a bottle of wine was waiting for them in their room. Specific shout outs to those who made us feel so special: Mariela greeted us at the breakfast buffet every morning as if she had been waiting just for us to show up. She remembered our name and room number every day which is crazy considering there are so many other people at the resort. When Frankely at the omelet station saw me each morning his whole face lit up with the biggest smile, again as if he was waiting all morning just to see me. Makes a great omelet too! When we found Franklin at the smoothie bar and saw they had protein powder available we were so happy. And he cheekily suggested a small scoop of peanut butter each morning because he knew I would be weak and say yes. Yerlin and Geremi at the pool were amazing. Checking in with us the perfect amount. Not too much but yet somehow always right there at the exact right moment. Francisco Vasquez, one of the managers (you’ll recognize him as the guy with amazing eyes!), went above and beyond every single day. He would bring a chair over for my mother in law who had knee replacement surgery recently, so she could sit upright instead of lying down all day, taking special lunch orders and delivering them to us, checking in to see if we needed anything, helping with a late checkout when our flight was delayed. Just always attentive, amazing, and going the extra mile, with the best attitude! I can’t say enough good things about Francisco. And finally Mario Lopez, meeting you the first day and talking to you set the stage for the rest of the week. Your entire team made us, and especially my in-laws, feel so special every single day. We can’t thank you enough for that. Another absolutely incredible vacation at the Ziva Cap Cana and we are already looking at booking next year.
