Reviews of The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali
The staff are great and the food is good, but the adult pool is full of parents pushing their babies and toddlers around with no problem. There are not enough umbrellas and shade at the pool after 8am. The elevator in a 10 floor tower was broken our entire stay....
The staff are great and the food is good, but the adult pool is full of parents pushing their babies and toddlers around with no problem. There are not enough umbrellas and shade at the pool after 8am. The elevator in a 10 floor tower was broken our entire stay. There are no discernible benefits for a gold elite member. The room rate was very high for a fairly basic Marriott room. There is a $50 resort fee for god knows what when there are no chairs with an umbrella after 8am and despite this hotel being on the beach, an umbrella and 2 chairs will cost you $85. Can’t recommend.

Our stay at the Westin Maui hotel was a big disappointment. I made reservations for a Kukahi-Aina View King (Resort View) in November for a trip in late January, expecting some lush greenery with view of the mountains in the distance. As a Marriott Platinum Lifetime member, I was hoping for a small upgrade to a resort/pool view or such.
Imagine my surprise when I entered my assigned room, 1030, to find a view mostly of the parking garage in the back of the hotel.
I then went down to the front desk to speak with the Manager-on-Duty, but the Front Desk Manager came out and told me that there were NO other rooms available in the hotel (with 789 rooms) to make a change.
In my thirty-plus years as a loyal Marriott member, I have never been as insulted as a as that morning at the Westin Maui.
My husband and I departed the next morning and returned to Honolulu.
Upon my return home, I sent a letter to the General Manager, Mr. Joshua Hargrove, to express my disappointment with his hotel. I have not yet received a reply.
I do not recommend the Westin Maui Resort to any Marriott Bonvoy members, or anyone else for that matter.

The location is great, the resort is clean. However, I will never stay at another Westin again. They charged us a $350 clean-up charge for smoking in the room! We NEVER smoked in the room. Security told us they have a video of us smoking in our room. First of all, that's a blatant lie and secondly, WHAT? You video people in their room??? After filling out several surveys and requesting phone calls from the mgr, we get no response. So basically, the resort stole $350 from us.

I have been coming to this hotel for many years. First time I was a teenager and it was the Maui Surf. We haven’t been in five years and were absolutely happy with our stay. Even watched whales from our room! The staff is gracious, friendly and helpful.

This was the worst experience I ever had in my life. Horrible experience I never had worse customer service in my life. The money that they charge does not warrant the lack of accommodation to the hotel guest. Being that I have a special diet they refused my food while my uber driver was trying to speak to the manger and hand her phone to her she refused to touch anything from my uber driver. They are completely rude to guests and have no accountability or manners when dealing with one. I have gone down to the front desk multiple times and each time the person behind the desk was even worse than the last. Tell me how you charge so much money without having any hospitality? I would never stay here again not if you paid me.

We spent three nights at the Westin Resort and Spa Kāʻanapali and had a lovely time overall. While it doesn’t quite match the resort experience we had at Wailea Beach Resort (where we stayed for the first half of our trip), it’s still a great place to stay with its own unique charm.
Location and Atmosphere
The location is super convenient, with easy access to the expansive Ka'anapali beaches and dining options. The property itself is beautiful, especially the lobby with the waterfall, seating area, and surrounding resort area. The cozy fire pits dotted around the grounds add a nice touch in the evenings.
Pools and Amenities
The pools are nice overall, but the pool experience we had at our prior resort set a super high bar for us. The semi-warm sand-bottom infinity pool is lovely and has a unique charm, but it’s fairly small and chairs nearby are often full. While the resort has several pools, finding shade was a challenge. There are very few umbrellas, and those that exist aren’t movable. One day, after we finally found an available umbrella, someone came around to close it due to wind—which was frequent during our stay. I’m not sure if it’s always that windy, but it did make lounging by the pool a bit less relaxing at times. The beach access is incredible though. But I might rent yourself a couple beach chairs and an umbrella from a snorkel bob's or something if you don't want to pay the ~$75/day to have the hotel set up loungers and an umbrella for you.
Poolside service was limited, with just one woman walking around for most the days we were there. That said, the bartender went out of his way to make my pregnant wife a fantastic mocktail with her drink coupon from check-in, which I really appreciated.
Rooms
We stayed in a second-floor room with direct pool access, which was super convenient. While it wasn’t a high-floor room with expansive views, we loved the easy pool access. If you value a great view, you might want to consider a higher room.
Dining and Convenience
The food on the property was very good, and there are plenty of nearby dining options, which added to the convenience. We also grabbed a few groceries, which helped keep things simple for breakfasts and snacks.
Overall Experience
The Westin Kāʻanapali is a very nice resort that we enjoyed. It has beautiful grounds, great pools, and solid dining options, but it’s a bit less of a “resort experience” compared to other places we’ve stayed on Maui. If you're traveling around the island a lot and have a lot of activities planned, you'll be happy with this as your home base. If you are planning to post up by the pool or beach for most of your trip, this resort would probably not be my first choice.

Overrated hotel. I’ll unfortunately be writing Marriott customer service. The rooms are very nice as they are newly renovated. That’s about the gist of the positives. Service is extremely lacking. Not what I expect from a Westin hotel as an Elite member. At check in, I was chastised by the front desk agent for opening up a can of what she believe was alcohol. It was a can of water from our Southwest flight. It was loud enough that everyone was staring. Instead of assuming, she maybe should have asked. My wife as embarrassed. Pool service was lacking as well. I had to constantly stop our servers so we could order something. Unfortunately, I would stay somewhere else next time.

I am giving a 1 star review to this hotel due to service (or lack off) provided by the hotel staff. The check-in took more than an hour because there was only 1 person working the front desk at 5 PM (when the regular check in time is 4pm).
Same experience when trying to get towels. The towel rack is supposed to close at 6pm, but they were closed at 5:45pm. Once you head to the concierge for the towels, they tell you that they can’t help you and that you need to talk to front desk. Poole are open until 10pm, but you can’t get towels post 5:45pm or even earlier depending on the mood of the staff.
We had the same issue with the hotel staff across the board, its restaurant staff, concierge , front desk or anyone at the hotel.

Excellent staff, beautiful rooms and amazing amenities. This is a five star resort. We made a couples trip to Maui the week prior to Christmas in December 2024.
This was our first time in Maui and we are so grateful that we selected this property. As a Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime gold member we were able to upgrade our room to a premium ocean view and it was worth the additional cost.
We were surprised and very impressed with how friendly the staff were and how accommodating they were to our needs. The poolside bars and restaurant dining facilities were impeccable, and the food and drinks were excellent.
On the last night of our stay, we participated in the luau festival at the Westin, and the show was incredible. It was professionally choreographed and full of adventure. The luau buffet was top-notch as well as the included cocktails.
I hope that we can fit a trip back to the Westin Kaanapali resort and spa again next year.

First time to Maui. Wanted a brand hotel that I recognized that I knew I would be comfortable and safe.
The hotel is big and we went during spring break. Many kids were in the area Of the hotel.
First – the room
We had a suite, room 288 and it was great and phenomenal and very expensive. The views were astronomical from the deck that we had to the porch overlooking the ocean. This suite had a walk-in shower, bathtub or whirlpool on the deck outside of the room, a fire pit And a six person table on the deck. Overlooked the kids pool and was on top of the bar. The only issue that I saw and heard was the music from the bar would come into the room at night time until the music was stopped, either I think 10 or 11. In the morning, you would hear the kids early at the pool that would wake you up. In the middle of the night, it was beautiful. Sounds of the ocean splashing on the beach. For two people, the suite is over abundant, and we had a feeling that we had to spend our time there due to optimizing the suite. There was only one room with a king bed and two big couches that could sleep a few kids on it if need be. The suite was more For entertaining others that we’re not staying in the room
The concierge at the hotel was very good and abundant. Usually two or three on duty at all times. I wanted A snorkel tour for turtles And to watch whales. I did not want to be With a large group of people in the concierge had a great suggestion and found a boat that had six passengers total that took us Snorkeling for turtles and had a phenomenal view of the whales migrating. The whales were literally within 5 feet of the boat splashing and playing. Highly suggest the concierge service.
It seemed like majority of the restaurants are outsourced. All of them were very good. You can have only so many Poké bowls in a week and I wanted at the end of the vacation more meat than anything else and that was an option at these restaurants.
There is an adult pool that is mediocre size, but wasn’t really too crowded either with a bar a few feet away.
We did the luau at the Westin and it was a great experience with good food and a great show.
It’s a catch 22 with the Westin due to you do get discounts for Shows like the luau and others when there. If you reserve them ahead of time, you may not get those discounts so be aware of those options.
The staff was very Gracious all the way around from the front desk to the bellhops to the cleaning people to the bartenders to the White staff. Did not have an issue with any of them.
It would’ve been nice to have a car, but it was so freaking expensive for parking that we opted not to, but I may have spent that amount in Uber in in the long run. So a vehicle may not be a bad idea.
The beach is gorgeous and plenty of room on it.
Highly suggest not being stupid like me and getting fried the first day there and was truly unable to enjoy the full options of the resort due to my sunburn. Was there for seven days and peeled like an onion after my second day and still am and I’ve been back almost a week now
The resort is situated near a A high-end shopping center with some very good restaurants.
There’s also a great tattoo shop called Banyan tree tattooing not far at all from there. Schedule things ahead of time and make reservations at these restaurants ahead of time and if you’re in no hurry, you could walk up go to the bar have a drink and wait an hour or so For the table.
Everything in Maui is expensive. A breakfast for two is anywhere between 60 and $80. Dinner is anywhere between $120-$200.
Did you get a batch of laundry done midway through the trip and it cost me 220 Dollars for a medium amount of laundry. FYI, they dry clean everything.
