The Marker Key West

About an hour before we checked in, I got a text saying that my king room had a maintenance issue, and we were reassigned to a queen room with a harbor view. There was a nice bush blocking whatever view was there. My reservation was made several months in advance. I complained and asked for a reduction in the room price. They did refund the resort fee, parking, gave us 2 free drinks and a $20 restaurant credit (which didn't buy much). I had to ask several times for an accommodation and each time they gave me something else and then I gave up. The final straw was our last afternoon when we wanted to lay by the pool. It was very crowded which I could understand since it was in season, etc., We finally snagged 2 chairs and when chatting with a lady she commented that she was NOT staying at the hotel. In fact, the resort makes it a point to cater to the public. The public can come in FOR FREE and as long as they buy drinks and food they are welcomed. So, I paid over $700 a night and the pool was crowded with non-hotel guests. This was NOT advertised on the web site. We selected this hotel because it had parking and was centrally located. I cannot recommend staying there. I feel I was deceived and paid a lot of money and didn't get what I was promised.

Hotel is very clean and in the best location in the old town. Three pools and poolside bar and restaurant was nice but shuts around 6pm so you need to go elsewhere, but there is plenty of options. Would have been nice to have food in the hotel on an evening. Biggest complaint is you have to pay an additional $500 resort fee for the week, and when it’s spring break and the hotel has booked 90 spring breakers when my wife and I was staying, there was little to no chance to hang out by the pool. I would go back, but never again during March!

I so wanted to love this hotel because externally, it is beautiful. In keeping with the surroundings of the houses around, it is white, wooden-clad, low-level and stylish. But, it is not with out issues. Pros: Location is central to everything, although if I had my time again I would stay away from Duval Street and the busy seaport area. Staff are nice and responsive enough. Rooms / bathrooms are big and spacious. Cons: Resort fee! I am sick of being charged resort fees for trumped up ‘benefits’. WiFi (I would get that for free in a Days Inn), bath robes, soap, a bath bomb (that nobody probably ever uses) pool towels, a water fountain in reception and such like. These are all things I would expect to be included in a luxury resort that charges the rates The Marker does. There’s barely any other facilities available (they tell you that you can use the sister hotel beach, but that is at the other side of the peninsula). Parking charges: $42 + tax per night. Smell on the balcony. We had a smell of drains on our balcony. Not pleasant. Cleaning: returned back to our room at 4.40pm to find no room service. Eventually came at 5.20pm when we were getting ready to go out and said housekeeping finished at 5.30pm. Who is she, Road Runner? To be fair, after complaining, front desk arranged for housekeeping that evening whilst we were out and for it to be carried out in the morning the following day (thank you). Point is, you shouldn’t have to ask for this, it should be a given in a hotel of this standard. Daylight: our room had a window separate to the main patio which just had a standard blind (not black out), so we had to sleep in eye masks.

Giving this place a low rating because the service was so horrendous (aside from the bar staff), especially for a Forbes Travel Guide recommended hotel that was almost $1,500 per night. We were greeted by the most unenthusiastic front desk staff ever. She had the attitude of a cold receptionist at the doctor's office on a TV show who would rather read her magazine than get you an appointment. Literally didn't even greet us. There was no bell man or any other staff on site to help with bags. Front desk staff did not coordinate properly with housekeeping when we asked them for the best time to clean our room because we had a dog who needed to be removed from the room while they serviced it. The concierge said housekeeping was very busy so we asked what would be the most convenient time for housekeeping to come to the room and said that we would we work around their schedule. We were given a time. We left for an hour. Came back and the room was not serviced. Called and they blamed us for not being gone long enough. I responded that they gave us a time to leave, and we couldn't just walk our dog around all day waiting for housekeeping. Took the dog out. Walked by the car and saw a piece of paper stuck on the windshield. Looked at it. Read, "Parking Violation" in big red font. They never asked us if we had a car to register. Any good hotel would find a more tactful way to go about that. Housekeeping was super unpleasant anytime we interacted with them during the trip. On the last day they knocked on the door 11 minutes after checkout and then IMMEDIATELY ran away (wtf?). Came back knocked again. Opened the door and they just stared at me. I get that it was after checkout but remember ... $1,500 a night... Do not stay here. Read the reviews. Ignore the hotel's responses. I didn't make this up and neither did the other reviewers. Ocean Key is a way better option. Would have stayed there if they allowed dogs. They also have Hot Tin Roof which is phenomenal.

We spent five nights at the hotel and had a great experience. It is spotlessly clean, and our room had a wonderfully comfortable bed, lots of space, drawers and useful furniture. All the staff was friendly. A special shout out to Dominika who was at the front desk and provided amazing assistance with a business document that needed a quick turnaround during our stay. She figured out what I needed and got it done with initiative. We recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Key West.

The good news is that it is an excellent hotel with really good service and an unbeatable location. Buyer beware: When you spend upwards of $800 per night for a room, you don't expect the pool to be open to the public, but it is. They sell day passes. The pool area is small, and if you don't grab a lounge chair early in the morning, it's gone, and you're out of luck, especially on weekends. Paying that $$$ amount for a room, you shouldn't have to worry about the availability of a pool lounge chair.

Just got back from another great stay at the Marker. The prices do get crazy in Key West in high season but the Marker is a solid choice for a mid priced hotel in a great location. Definitely recommend over any cheaper hotel in new town. Pros: the staff is excellent. I had a minor issue with my room at check in and the staff took care of it quickly. Never encountered a non friendly face. The king room with pool view was great and we're hotel snobs. We stay at the 5 star hotels during low season for more luxury but the Marker is a fine less expensive alternative. We overlooked the serenity pool and it was perfect for us. Really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast that came with my booking and the food and drinks around the pool were fantastic. The pool staff were really great as well. Parking is expensive but its easy and convenient. We drive here from home but you do not need a car if flying in. We kept it parked the whole time. Cons: no room service! The Marker has one of the best pool areas in Old Town but it could use some improvements that would really enhance this hotel. They do not have any "security" keeping kids from going into all the pools and serenity/adult side. The pool area is bigger than most here but is way too small for groups of kids to run around crazy, playing football and splashing into your drinks while their drunk parents ignore them. Also most chairs (all with umbrellas) were "claimed " with towels by the time we went down to breakfast at 8 and some people didn't roll in until 2pm. The staff should collect these towels for unclaimed chairs after an hour or so like high end hotels do. The DJ was fun and we didn't have a problem with overcrowding from day pass people. Overall another great stay and we will definitely be back. There is so much potential with their amazing pool area, I hope they can implement some changes.

First the good news. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are pleasant (even if the furniture is a bit tired-looking and cheap). The location on the edge of the historic district is convenient. But that's about it. Do not be misled by the video on the hotel's website. For the price (over $1000/night) we were expecting a resort of "vibrant luxury", as stated on the Marker's web site. At best, the Marker has the feel of an upgraded three-star roadside motel. Indeed, you park your car yourself in a drab looking garage under the hotel (and you pay $40/night for that privilege). The pools are the size of backyard pools and the building directly abuts the noisy pool. There is no garden to speak of and certainly no clear view of the harbor as shown in the video (we had booked a "harbor view room"). You'll be charged a $40+ resort fee per day for.... (I'm not kidding) water in the lobby, "luxury" soaps that are cheap wall-mounted soaps that seem to come from a thrift store, live poolside music, etc. No opting out. The bed, while comfortable, is a laminated particle board platform bed. The breakfast is Motel 6 quality at best. You are much better off at La Marquesa or the Opal Key resort.

Just returned from 4 nights at The Marker. Although it is compact, the exterior spaces are beautiful - tropical vegetation, tropical colors, and seclusion from surrounding areas. The location is great - right at the harbor walk and 4 blocks from Duval Street. We booked directly with the hotel (parking was included) and paid the $40/day for 2 for plentiful breakfast onsite every day. We were in Room 113, which was 1st floor (actually about 1/2 a level up from ground level) and it overlooked the two pools and the bar area. The balcony wasn't private per se, as we had neighbors on either side (but never saw them) and the vegetation gave a little bit of privacy while still able to enjoy the view. Each of the 3 pools only had about 12-16 loungers at them, but this time of year it wasn't too hard to find a seat, depending on time of day. There are more loungers that side tables and umbrellas, although not everyone wanted shade. The web site says one pool is heated, but when I asked the manager which was the heated pool, he said this year they got both the pools next to the bar heated. During the day there is music coming through speakers around the pool and then most afternoons they have live music. The Serenity pool, which isn't heated, is accessed through a different exit door, and although it doesn't have music or activities, and is screened off from street, you can still hear any trucks passing by on the adjacent street. All pools have stacks of towels available. Kacey, the pool activities director did local trivia one and water aerobics another. She was fun, informative, and great personality. The bartenders worked very hard and were efficient and friendly. As many people have noted, we didn't have room cleaned until late afternoon on the 1st two days, but the last full day it was before lunch. I guess it depends on how many people are checking out that day. The free Duval Loop stop #2 was only a couple of blocks away on Caroline St. in front of the gym/spa, next to Onlywood restaurant was very convenient. On the attached map I wrote M where The Marker/Historic Seaport is. We did the Heminway House guided 1/2 hour tour ($19/person) and the Truman Little White House 1/2 hour guided tour ($26.75/person) and throughly enjoyed them both. The Historic Seaport area had lots of great restaurants and we enjoyed The Schooner (happy hour deals), Boathouse (great happy hour deals), Waterfront Brewery (happy hour deals). We also ate at Ram's Head in the Bahama Village area (outdoor seating with shade from umbrellas and trees) and Carolines on Duval - all very good! Highly recommend The Marker for the beauty and services and location. It's a little pricey, but for the area is probably worth it.

Advertised as luxury resort, our stay failed to meet our expectations after choosing The Marker. My partner and I were celebrating a milestone birthday and wanted a great vacation at highly reputable resort where we could have a good mix of relaxation and enjoying Key West. From allowing college-aged kids to take over the pool (many of which we're not guests at the hotel), to pulling the fire alarm during the night time, this hotel did little to live up to imagery projected on their website. Enjoy the daily battle to secure a lounge bed by the pool. There are not nearly enough for the hotel's guests. The daily live poolside music is a plus, and very enjoyable between 1-3pm. Rooms and Cleanliness - weird cleaning times Expect room service to inconveniently come by your room around 5:00pm - our room was only made up twice, because we were getting ready for the evening when they did come by. Our trash was only taken once during the week-long stay. We were out for most of the day during our stay, and it was frustrating to come back in the late afternoon to not have the room cleaned or bed made. Then when you're getting ready to go out for the evening, that is when the staff make their rounds - so you end up having to turn them away. After the 3rd day in a row of this happening we had to request room service in the morning. Location - blessing and a curse Yes, the location is in the "vibrant" harbor, so do not expect a decent sleep before 11pm if you book the more expensive Harbor View King with Balcony — a nearby live music venue (Schooner Wharf Bar) will keep you awake. The hotel is walkable distance to pretty much everywhere in that area of Key West. It felt far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Duval Street. I would recommend the pool-facing rooms for a quieter night time. Staff - friendly Overall, our interactions with staff were positive. I wouldn't expect poolside service like you would at a top resort. I felt the hotel was most likely understaffed for the number of guests. Check in and out was fine - no welcome drink as advertised. Pros: Location, Staff, Live music at poolside, Parking on-site Cons: Nighttime noise, Room service times, Pool security Overall, I felt underwhelmed after my stay at The Marker. It is advertised as this serene, tranquil, elevated resort, but its did not live up to the hype, especially given the cost the Harbor View room with balcony. I was really disappointed at the hotel's response to the side gate being left open for non-guests to use the pool. In my opinion, they chose on that day, to take the income generated on selling beverages over the experience of the hotel-paying guests. No joke, we counted 60 college-aged kids around the pool on the first full day of our stay. Maybe this was outlier, but if you're a "luxury resort", you address the situation.

We had a wonderful stay. The location was perfect and we could walk everywhere. Jason and Karolina at the pool bar were amazing! Good live music at the pool in the afternoon. We would stay at the Marker again and will recommend to our family and friends.
