The last time we came, the staff recommended we come back in early March to watch the whales, what a great idea! The whale watching was just incredible from our balcony in the Moana building. If you like peace and quiet, the Moana building is definitely the place for you....

The last time we came, the staff recommended we come back in early March to watch the whales, what a great idea! The whale watching was just incredible from our balcony in the Moana building. If you like peace and quiet, the Moana building is definitely the place for you. The rooms are old so you have to be prepared for a bump or crack on the furniture, but the views can’t be beat in the staff. Here is so welcoming. From our favorite waitress at mai tai’s Jules, to Nelson in the main restaurant to the food manager. Chiara everyone is so welcoming and kind. The bell hop staff hustles all the time with big smiles on their face and a welcoming cold bottle of water. We come here for the peace and quiet of nature we spend our sitting in our balcony whale watching birdwatching stargazing are fabulous here if you want a lively environment. Probably want a different part of the resort and they’ll be happy to put you in a room with a lot of enthusiasm and liveliness. But we come for the peace and quiet so Moana is right for us. We’re always looking forward to our next visit. What more can you say about a place to stay?

Beautiful resort and beach. Restaurant had a great breakfast, didn’t have dinner there. Very peaceful area, close to things like whalers Village. Walking distance. Beautiful views and the luau was very good. Lots of excellent food. Be sure to check that out, rooms were nice.

This is a tired property in the most beautiful location. It really was fine but several things to take into consideration: 1) $40 a night to park your car and it was very hard to find a parking spot. Most of the time you had a pretty good walk to your room. 2) $50 resort fee added to your room rate each day. 3) There were no luggage carts to help you take your luggage from your car to your room. The view from our room was very limited. You could see the ocean on the balcony if you leaned out far enough. The nice thing was they had a seating area with two soft chairs and a table on each floor that we sat at each sunset. It was gorgeous. The pool area was great and location pretty much on the beach.

Overall, we had an excellent stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort. It is located in a beautiful setting on the northern end of Ka'anapali Beach at the lava rock promontory called Black Rock. We splurged for an ocean front room that offered unobstructed views of the water from our balcony....

Overall, we had an excellent stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort. It is located in a beautiful setting on the northern end of Ka'anapali Beach at the lava rock promontory called Black Rock. We splurged for an ocean front room that offered unobstructed views of the water from our balcony. It was a delight to sit out here in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the many whales migrating not far offshore or to be out here in the evening watching the stunning sunset. The hotel has a large pool complex, and we had no problem finding a lounger. There is a sandy beach that can be busy during the day as the beach isn't very wide. No loungers or umbrellas to rent but you can bring a beach chair or place down your towel. Snorkeling at Black Rock was excellent. In addition to many colorful fish, I saw a few sea turtles. Black Rock has long been a sacred spot for the native Hawaiian people and every night at sunset, there is a torch lighting and cliff diving ceremony to honor this tradition. You can also join other adventurous people and do your own cliff dive from the rocks. The resort has a beach bar called the Cliff Dive Grill. We ordered food from here a couple times while at the pool, and it was good, and it is a nice spot to sit and watch the sunset especially with a Hawaiian dancer performing to add to the atmosphere. There are many restaurant options not far away and the shopping and dining complex Whaler's Village is a short walk away along a paved path along the beach. The Sheraton was the first resort built on Ka'anapali back in the 1960s. It still has that 60's architecture making it somewhat nostalgic feeling. Our room was looking a bit dated but was large and comfortable. It is also a huge sprawling complex. The size of the resort makes it a bit impersonal, and it is a long 10-minute walk from the ocean front rooms to the hotel lobby. There was plenty of parking not far from our section of the hotel. However, the hotel made for a great week in Maui, and I would definitely stay here again mostly for the location and the great snorkeling at Black Rock.

Plain and simple the best resort along Ka'anapali. We also stayed in other hotels which were very nice and had their own advantages too but this resort is by far the best, the most open space, the nicest beach area for laying out AND snorkeling, the black rocks, good amenities, a short walk to whalers village.. its got it all and I'm sure we will be back in the future.

My husband had a work meeting at the hotel and I accompanied him for the trip. When we arrived we were told there were no rooms with king sized beds and they could give us a double and then we could move the next day. After some complaining they were...

My husband had a work meeting at the hotel and I accompanied him for the trip. When we arrived we were told there were no rooms with king sized beds and they could give us a double and then we could move the next day. After some complaining they were able to find us a room with a king bed. (This is a big hotel and was def not at capacity). The layout of the hotel is sprawling and since some of it is built into the cliff, it can be difficult to find some things. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which serves until 10:30am. The open air lobby is a lovely place to have your morning coffee and a bite to eat while watching for whales in the distance. The pool area is a bit of an issue by noon. There do not seem to be enough lounge chair areas. There are several smaller areas with lounge chairs throughout the complex but the area in which they are is very narrow so there is really no room to move your lounge chair around or switch areas based on the sun/shade. The hotel's bracelet room keys are genius as you are not fumbling for a room key constantly.

Breakfast was great BUT Cons When we checked in, we were told continental breakfast was included, upgrade to hot options was $15. When we went to breakfast the next day, and every day after, breakfast upgrade was $19. They didn’t care that we had been told $15 at check-in. There was only ever one person at the check in desk for the first four days of our stay. So when our room key didn’t work, as always happens, we had to wait in line with people checking in to have our room key reset. We also waited in line two days before we checked out to request late check-out only to be told we couldn’t request late checkout until the day before. They couldn’t have just entered the request in the computer? Fortunately, finally there were two people at the desk the day before, and they took and honored our request for late checkout. Thank you. While housekeeping was excellent, there were dirty mops and rags left out for a couple of days. The logo’d water bottles were nice, but poorly designed; you have to remove the top completely to drink from the ridged edges. While the facility is gorgeous, it could use sprucing up. It looks a little tired. But it’s Hawaii! we were thrilled to be there. Thank you.

You can’t beat the location of the Sheraton Maui which is tucked in next to Black Rock. You can walk right out of the hotel and jump in the water and swim with tropical fish and green sea turtles. You can also watch the cliff diver ceremony every night just before sunset. I’ve stayed at the hotel several times and my favorite building is #4 where we were able to see Black Rock, the Sheraton pool, the beach, and many sailboats (see photo). We rented snorkel equipment at the Sheraton beach shack and one of the pool attendants, Codiac, was always smiling and willing to help. The pool is very refreshing and a great place to escape the heat. My only complaint is that the Sheraton did not monitor people who were not staying at the hotel using the pool and the lounge chairs. One guy was bragging how he could just buy a beer at the Sheraton restaurant and then use the pool for the day. They really should reserve the pool for the paying guests. The breakfast buffet was good especially the made-to-order omelets. I was happy with our stay and would happily return.

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa and had a delightful experience overall. While the property itself is slightly dated and could benefit from some modernization, the team truly makes this place shine. A special shoutout to Joshua Ramelb, the Food and Beverage Manager, who went above and beyond to ensure our breakfasts were tailored to our dietary needs. His attention to detail and willingness to pull out all the stops made us feel incredibly well cared for. At the front desk, Marie Cochrane was absolutely stellar. She ensured our stay was seamless, comfortable, and stress-free. Nothing was too much trouble for her, and her warmth made us feel right at home. The Valet Parking service was excellent, with Jeremy and his team being exceptionally efficient and super friendly. They handled everything with care and a smile, which was a great way to start and end our outings. Lastly, Chelsea Penner provided us with outstanding local recommendations that added a special touch to our trip. Her knowledge and enthusiasm really helped us make the most of our time in Maui. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay memorable. With a bit of attention to the property’s dated features, this place would be truly exceptional. We would happily return!

Wonderful experience at the Sheraton Maui Resort. Hotel is right on the ocean and you have easy access for swimming and snorkeling. We saw turtles and an array of fish! The staff is outstanding! The hotel is within walking distance of Whaler’s Village and a multitude of shops and restaurants....

Wonderful experience at the Sheraton Maui Resort. Hotel is right on the ocean and you have easy access for swimming and snorkeling. We saw turtles and an array of fish! The staff is outstanding! The hotel is within walking distance of Whaler’s Village and a multitude of shops and restaurants. Dukes is also within a nice walking distance for a great meal.

We stayed here for three nights and I would highly recommend it. It is RIGHT on the beach on the and for the price, you get a great pool / lazy river combination. Aqua sports gear is available through a separate company that has a shack on site. We rented snorkeling gear without an issue or prior reservation and walked down the beach a bit to rent a paddle board on another day. Snorkeling at the resort/black rock isn’t amazing, but you will see some cool fish. There’s a resort gift shop where you can buy sunscreen and complimentary dispensers spread around the pool areas, though we found the complimentary sunscreen difficult to apply. The service was kind and welcoming. If you can, I’d highly recommend booking a ground floor room so you can walk right out to the beach. We did and it was so convenient. My only real criticisms are that I wish you could lock the patio doors from the outside and the AC didn’t quite keep up at night.

Nice resort, pool and beach were all great. Pleantyof longe chairs even with all the early morning chair hogs. Snorkeling at Black Rock was fantastic. Rooms were nice, views slightly obstructed by palm trees. :) . Staff was accommodating and resort nicely maintained.

We first went to this resort 48 years ago on our honeymoon. There have been several changes over the years, but the remarkable gorgeous setting remains. This time we stayed in "Building 6", the Moana wing, which meant we overlooked the Black Rock, Lanai, Molokai and the beautiful ocean. Amazing...

We first went to this resort 48 years ago on our honeymoon. There have been several changes over the years, but the remarkable gorgeous setting remains. This time we stayed in "Building 6", the Moana wing, which meant we overlooked the Black Rock, Lanai, Molokai and the beautiful ocean. Amazing views and we liked being slightly removed from the more active areas of the resort. It does take a bit of logistics to get to the pool/beach area, the lobby, and restaurants, but once you figure it out, it gets easier. We met several people trying to find their way to those places and we happily helped them. There is signage on the walls but if you're not familiar with the layout, it still can be perplexing. There is a video screen out on the 8th floor in a nearby building that tells you directions to Moana, but it only holds that info for a few seconds, then flips to a new bit of info. Might be nice to keep that screen in a constant mode with those directions. Check-in went fine, the receptionist was friendly. They have a newer system of room keys, which is a waterproof bracelet that has a chip to open your room door. This is a wonderful feature, especially when you are using the pool or beach. HOWEVER, it has to work and for the first two days of our stay, it often did not. One of ours never worked, the other would work once or twice, then for several tries wouldn't. It was exasperating and concerning as to whether we could get into the room at any given time and certainly put a damper on enjoying our vacation. We first went back to the front desk and were given new keys (wristbands). Same problem again so we called three different times over the next two days. First staff to arrive were two men who we felt were condescending to the female, making her feel like she was incapable of opening a door. They tried the door, it worked, but we told them it often didn't. We called the front desk a few hours later to complain again. A maintenance man came, had issues opening the door, too, and decided it wasn't hanging properly. He worked on it a bit, adjusted the door, and felt the problem was solved. However, the following day we were back to the same issue of the door not unlocking about 75% of the time. We again called the desk---by now the third time--and a very very nice and helpful maintenance man came. Wish we remembered his name, because after telling him our plight of three service calls, he tried the door, had a problem, too, and assured us he would definitely fix the problem. He ground the strike plate down more, and lo and behold, not a problem after that. Most of the staff were quite friendly. A few so-so. We weren't sure of checkout time, and could not find it listed anywhere on the back of the door, in the info sheet given to us, or by using their QR code to find out resort info. Went to the desk after dinner, a not-too-enthusiastic man told us the time. We had also asked directions to a spot in the hotel, repeated and tried to clarify what he had said to us, and he was somewhat condescending, too. At checkout, told the receptionist our door lock problems. Seemed indifferent about it. Told her we would write about the lock in a hotel survey and she said we would be getting one. Well, it's been one week, no survey sent to us by the hotel (hmmmm) so decided TripAdvisor was the way to go. The Coral Reef restaurant staff was extremely pleasant...both for dinner and the wonderful breakfast buffet. Great food! We commend them, as well as Rosita of Housekeeping who made sure our room was clean and had refreshed towels on a daily basis. The Moana room was large-sized, incredible view, and a big bathroom that had a door to the toilet. We might add that door also stuck and once it was hard to reopen and get out. We figured out you had to pull the door handle UP, otherwise you'd get stuck (noticed another trip reviewer mentioned his son got stuck in bathroom). The pool area lovely, and it was fun to swim through the long waterway to different sections. The hut where towels were dispersed had some really nice guys, too! Overall, this is a lovely resort with probably the best location on Kaanapali Beach. The grounds are lovely and there are many activities to participate in. We think some more improvements could be made with directions within the facility, and some staff members could have better attitudes.

Nice location and pools but there just aren’t any warm or friendly Hawaiian vibes. This hotel could be anywhere. The food was expensive and you are limited to one for breakfast, one for lunch and two for dinner. This place seems good for families but a couple wanting quiet to read, nap and chill will be disappointed. We wanted to get away from the kids at the pool but they wanted over $100 to get a chair and umbrella to sit on the beach! Felt nickel and dimed to death. I’ll leave with a positive…the bed was wonderful!
