This resort came highly recommended by friends and ideal for what we wanted - all-inclusive beach resort for a "fly and flop" holiday. The location is excellent on the biggest beach in Grenada - all beaches are public but that was not really a problem as the beach is wide and the hotel facilities on the beach good and well managed. It can be a bit difficult to get into the sea when the waves are up as there is a ledge just into the sea. Beach and sea are clean. Access to St George's is easy if you wish to leave the resort and external noise only occasionally intrusive (a carnival one day and a very noisy "boose cruise" one Sunday). Atmosphere is a bit lacking - the occasional music evenings were very dated and not very "local" - let's have some reggae and calypso, please! The restaurants are very good (but pricy if you are not all-inclusive) - food in Olivers is very high class but could be a little more local-based in cuisine. The fresh fish in Catch of the Day was always excellent but breakfast was a bit bland. Staff were amazing - they called guests by name, were cheerful and friendly yet very professional. Nothing seemed to be too much to ask and they just got on with any request straight away. The staff around the pool and beach were particularly good at keeping up with the need for water and other drinks plus cold towels and iced-lollies, and also happy to chat about the island. The pool is small but clean and well-maintained with plenty of sun-loungers and towels at all times of day. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped with a good size bathroom (ours had a large spa tub and good size separate shower cubicle). The bed was very large and amazingly comfortable. Only a few criticisms: the house wines were fairly cheap and not especially good, although the staff keep you glass topped up very efficiently! The "Champagne" cocktails were, perhaps not surprisingly, made with cheap fizz and hence not really very pleasant. Stick with the house cocktails (and mocktails) which are good. Despite advertising changing rooms and showers for departing guests on the in-room information system, these were not available and the desk staff try to sell you a $350 extension to the room hire. This is really not acceptable as so many guest have late evening flights - every other good hotel/resort that I have stayed in offers a departure lounge with changing, showers etc. Hopefully, the management will address this lapse in standard of service. Overall, however, the resort is a very good place for a relaxing holiday with excellent accommodation, food and staff in a beautiful location. We plan to return, hopefully to find the minor criticism addressed by the management

A most gorgeous resort located on a beautiful beach, this is true. The resort facilities can't be faulted; everything looked modern, well maintained and very attractive. Walking into the resort, you truly do feel like you're somewhere special and luxurious. We stayed 5 nights, and whilst mostly enjoyable, there were a few aspects which were disappointing which I'll list below. 1) The house wines are of a very low quality. Most of the wines, both red and white, are from Chile and Argentina and just dreadful. 2) There is a serious lack of ambience in the evenings around the bar, and common areas. Maybe the cheap wine contributes to this. 3) We received conflicting information about dinner pricing, and one very rude staff member (manager, perhaps?), refused to show us the a la carte menu, even though we had been told it was available at the Sea & Surf restaurant. Eventually we were very reluctantly presented with the a la carte menu after what felt like an arm wrestling competition. Totally unprofessional and gave us a very bad vibe. 4) For those not on the all-inclusive plan, like us, the fixed menu pricing at Oliver's is an eye watering $140.00 USD per person, not inclusive of drinks. This was a bit much, given the smaller portions, and limited selections. 5) The beach, though extremely beautiful, gets a very steady flow of cruise ship passengers, dogs, and private citizens walking by, morning, afternoon and evening. This didn't lend itself to the relaxing resort ambience I was hoping for. Certainly no fault of the resort, but it bears mentioning. 6) The bathroom is very poorly designed. I didn't enjoy only having one sink for the two of us. Our suite had an enormous bathroom, with a long vanity, yet only one sink. There is also a large towel holder mounted directly in front of the one sink, so it juts out and you have to lean over it to use the sink itself which becomes very tedious. The toilet is also tightly placed at the end of the vanity, making it claustrophobic. All of this is a pity because it could be a very beautiful bathroom, but these are huge design fails and made it uncomfortable. 7) Charging for cheap bottled water that won't even open is really unacceptable at a 5 star resort! On a more positive note, the property is very gorgeous! Stunning, in fact. There is an abundance of places to sit and enjoy whether it be at the beach, pool, or many lovely sitting areas. Breakfasts were wonderful with extremely high quality pressed coffee. The majority of staff we encountered do maintain a nice level of hospitality and professionalism. The housekeeping and maintenance staff also deserve credit as it is a pristinely clean resort.

This was one of the most relaxing breaks we had in 2025. The positives: - Excellent beach (which was surprisingly quiet as it is public) - Spacious and well equipped room; we went for a room with a plunge pool - with hindsight, we should have gone for a room by the beach as the rooms with plunge pools are set back from the beach with no views (very private and very shaded)) - generous mini bar - lovely staff; almost everyone was super friendly, It makes a real difference - I enjoyed the hobi cat sailing (other than the day when the person supervising water sports was working somewhere else….) - Great spa treatments (though the spa itself needs a little TLC) Areas for improvement: - Lack of information on activities; on our penultimate day, a member of staff came up to us at the pool who organised activities, said he hadn’t seen us before (even though we had been at the hotel for 5 days) and suggested various activities - unfortunately it was too late to do most of them (we had kept ourselves active any way with a hire car) - many staff recognise you, others dont asking your name repeatedly in the same day (and the hotel was far from full) - evening bar snacks are very weak and are of a standard you would expect of a mid-range pub in the UK, far short of a 5 star hotel - The biggest, the food. Cooked breakfasts are good, but the buffet is very limited. The lunch menu we quite enjoyed but the dinner consistently underwhelmed; given the price, it should have been so much better. We decided to eat out for 2 nights The last time we visited Grenada we stayed at the Calabash and almost did again. We chose Spice Island Beach Resort because of the beach, which is much better, and our agent saying both had good rooms and excellent food. However, the food at the Calabash is in a totally different league, as is the service. I would return to the Calabash without hesitation (and it is better value). I would only return to Spice Island if the food is much improved; it’s a shame, it has so much potential.

Don’t help yourself at the buffet. ). We were worried that we might tire of the menus at dinner but they changed it up night two 👍. The hotel is attractive and clean but a little tired and dated. e.g Tiles missing in our private pool. (Champagne problems I know but you are paying for perfection. ) the pool was very clean. They have done a great job of making the environment feel tropical and there are plenty of places to relax other than your room. I would rate the staff really. The sounds outside are tropical and the grounds are fabulous and well tended and everyone works very hard and is definitely welcoming. The shop sells mouth watering merchandise but at mouthwatering prices. (Take your passport in if making purchases because you can benefit from the tax free price) . Spice Island is everything you could possibly want in a tropical retreat but the owners could be less complacent given how expensive it is. I hope this helps.

Hats Off to the Staff for Exceptional Start to Finish Service

This is an exceptional boutique resort hotel on the most fabulous beach in Grenada (or maybe even the entire Caribbean). There are c. 60 suites in the hotel so maybe a total of 150 guests but the staff really try hard to learn your names. The hotel is family-owned and you can easily tell this by the way they train their team to provide the very best customer service. It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. We have stayed at one of these before in Mauritius and this one in Grenada is very similar in many ways. In Grenada we stayed in an Oleander Superior Garden Suite which is one of their standard rooms but was very spacious and comfortable with views of the ocean in the distance but very close to the beach. The resort is ultra all inclusive and the room mini bar was well stocked with beers and spirits (but strangely no wine). The resort offers seated a-la-carte breakfasts, lunches and dinners in 2 adjacent restaurants, - the fine dining Oliver restaurant and the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar. During our stay (of one week), there were only 2 nights where the Sea & Surf Terrace Bar was open for dinner. If I had one criticism it would be to open this more frequently for those of us attracted to a less formal dining experience than offered by Olivers. The BBQ night hosted at Sea & Surf was excellent and probably more to my taste. There was an afternoon tea option but with all the other food, - we never partook! We booked the catamaran sunset cruise but unfortunately, there was no sunset. It was a great experience nevertheless. We also booked a free to wander jeep safari which I would also recommend but you need to be a confident driver as the jeeps go off road on some exposed, hilly and tight roads. It provided a great opportunity to see close up the Forts, Waterfalls, Lakes etc in this wonderful island. The wines served with meals (and at the bar) were good quality as was the selection of cocktails, prosecco, beers etc. On one of the nights at Olivers, one of the starter choices was frogs legs which I wouldn't recommend. Grenada is a lovely safe island (virtually no crime). There are very few "hawkers" on the public beach which was also very quiet at the hotel's south end of the beach. A walk up north got busier as you get closer to St Georges. We had seen previous reviews about mosquitos and I am often bitten a lot but we had no problems in Grenada in November. We did elect for Vitamin B tablets, Garlic tablets and mosquito repellant (but this usually doesnt work much for me but did here). Arranging your own taxis from the airport is simple (and much better value than pre-booking with the hotel). An excellent hotel with great rooms, public areas, food and wine but hats off to the staff for exceptional service from start to finish.

A very quick and cheap cab ride from Grenada airport brings you to the Spice Island Beach Resort at Grand Anse beach. We were greeted by name on arrival having done the majority of check-in on line the day prior, and the remainder of the process was efficient. No arrival drink though we saw others getting them in the week. Taken up to our room for the weekend. Superior Oleander suite (rm 64) which was very well appointed and maintained, and spotlessly clean. Balcony overlooked the gardens - beach front rooms are available but with less privacy. The hotel is very much old school colonial in both look and feel. It’s family owned rather than part of a giant chain and it shows in a good way. The beach is long with white sand and whilst public (as are all beaches in Grenada) it was extremely quiet. Plenty of sun loungers on the beach front. The pool area is also lovely with loungers and day beds. Food is excellent. Breakfast buffet is very underwhelming but the a la carte choices are very good. Lunch is a 3 course affair but is quite casual. Dinner is a more formal affair and it’s lovely for it. Dinner changes daily, but lunch is fixed. Don’t discount ice cream as the dessert - it’s all fresh made and very, very good. The hotel hosted an international conference while we were there with multiple dignitaries staying including a few Prime Ministers. This was all managed extremely well with minimal change to regular guests (and very Death in Paradise with all the local police in uniform!!) The best thing though are the staff. Everyone is helpful and friendly. Things just get done and nothing is too much effort. From day one, they know who you are and any food issues or preference. It’s very quiet, though July is not prime season. There are times when it seems no one else is around. Nice to get away from the world, but it lacks a little atmosphere. One major annoyance was a credit card mix up. You are requested to put USD500 down for incidentals even if on the AI plan. This is not a problem, but on the next day, the hotel then used the details to charge the entire room cost which was prepaid. It was returned immediately, but I happened to spot the in-out on my card. Questions about it were answered very vaguely, despite asking two different reception staff, stating it was “an error” - mischarging USD5,000 without having the card is more than an error and I found it most concerning from both a card/cyber security and GDPR perspective.

An Unsurpassed Vacation Experience After 30+ years of travel, we've just returned from an exceptional resort experience. Pampered by a property and staff which appears to outnumber the guests, we relished each day except the last, having to go home. Thank you to the Hopkin family for continuing such a personalized and exquisite resort experience for ~40 years! BEFORE leaving home, the resort sent an inquiry email AND a follow-up phone call asking about any special room, food or vacation requests. Impressive service we’ve never experienced! LOCATION - about a 11-12 minute drive from the airport, we rented a car to explore the island more than we had during our previous Grenadian visits. However, Spice Island offers transport. The resort is located on the best stretch of the Grand Anse beach. ARRIVAL - greeted with our names by the front office manager and the bellman in the covered circular portico, we were escorted and efficiently registered. Accompanied by the front desk staff to suite 30, the Royal Clove, we had the courtyard, room, and amenities tour. They also provided a Spice Island cell phone to contact them while on resort property or touring the island. Getting used to the rainy season humidity took about a day. COURTYARD - The tropical foliage and plantings are varied and well-manicured. Surprising to us, we saw that there was a sauna which worked well and warmed up quickly. There is also a very useful and decorative drying tree. Having the private POOL and perimeter wall are what really made the room experience the best that we have ever had. ROYAL SUITE LIVING ROOM and BEDROOM - Some room attributes: full-size living room, four-poster bed, love seat, chairs, tables and ceiling fans. Notable features include: plenty of drawer space, one A/C unit per room, several remote controls and Alexa, great for music! Cabinet amenities: tea kettle/tea, Nespresso coffee machine/capsules, toaster, Gordon’s gin, Absolut, Johnny Walker Black, Grenadian dark rum, red wine and champagne. The champagne was iced-chilled each day until we consumed it. Refrigerator amenities: sauvignon blanc, tonic, club, canned juice, ginger ale, Coke, beer, rum shot bottles, and several water bottles. THANK YOU to the gentleman who helped us with the TV remotes. BATHROOM - very large area with a double vanity and plenty of counter space, huge jacuzzi/tub/shower, excellent water pressure and temperature controls, toilet/bidet/scale (not private), laundry bin, and closet area with hangars, iron/board, hairdryer and safe. Nice room and pool towels as well! There is a laundry service. The bathroom tends to be warmer than the bedroom and living rooms since there is no A/C in the bathroom. THANK YOU to the plumber who replaced the leaking sink valves within a couple of hours. PUBLIC AREAS - lovely, serene ‘clover-shape’ pool and beach area cabanas/chaises, no observable ‘towel-chair saving,’ The beach is public. Resort public areas and landscaping staff are always visible and friendly tidying or maintaining the property and foliage; many even greeted us with our names! And if there is a rain shower, everyone is out in force squeegeeing, mopping and drying every floor and surface. RESTAURANTS’ STAFF - First off, kudos to managers we met - head chef Brenda Joseph and assistant food and beverage manager Caralena. Resort servers and bartenders are amazing! Shirlyn and Kevin made the first impressions only to be quickly followed by a myriad of others: Kenitta, Tracy, Gillian, Rachel, Dainisha, Danah, Dellorna, Jeron, Shawna, Lyndonna, and Katrina. THANK YOU to Fabian for trying to locate a preferred liquor. RESTAURANTS - Situated in a garden terrace venue with vines, trellises, and lattice, you will find Oliver’s and Sea & Surf restaurants, quite enjoyable! Whether you have breakfast/most dinners at Oliver’s or lunch/some dinners at the Sea and Surf Terrace-Bar, the food was delicious and perfectly timed at every meal. The dinner menu varied every day. Daily breakfast and weekday lunch menus are the same, but because of the numerous offerings, we still never ate the same meal twice. Three special moments for us during the week: (1) the fish catch of the day - swordfish, tuna, mahi, kingfish, and local couvalli (sp?) our favorite because of its texture, taste and not one we’ve seen in the US. (2) Wednesday - Caribbean night…we tried the local ‘Oil Down’ with chicken, pork, codfish, breadfruit, potatoes and, of course, the coconut milk. Heavy but tasty! (3) Lastly, we had mentioned to Caralena that the sample menu online showed frogs’ legs. Even though they were not on the menu, Caralena coordinated with the chef Brenda for us to have them on our last evening along with another of our French favorites, sweetbreads. Such a sensational epicurean delight for the finale! HOUSEKEEPING - The “Shhh… / Service” sign was helpful. Calling to arrange a daily room service is fine. We only met Tonya, who was also so pleasant and efficient. The staff met every room need. And if we had special requests, each was met within the hour, if not minutes. There is also an evening turndown service. The ice bucket is refilled most of the time twice a day. CAR VALET and ‘DOOR’ MEN - always pleasant and efficient. One in particular, Chard, was in-training and showed such enthusiasm and hospitality. SPA & GYM - Janissa spa offers numerous body and facial treatments. We tried several and each session was rejuvenating. The staff is very pleasant and professional, especially Audrey. The gym abuts the spa. While the gym can be a bit warm, there is plenty of equipment: 2 Technogym treadmills, 1 bike, machine equipment for core, chest/back, and shoulders. There were only two times at dusk when it was needed, but it was very helpful. The ‘same/next day’ laundry service may not occur unless the request gets processed before 9 am. If you desire privacy, the Royal and pool suites provide that atmosphere compared to the ocean front. The ocean front accommodations, however, have the best view.
