Our room was beautiful with two small balconies overlooking the sunset. Perfect! However, late on the second day into the third day we found that we had no cold water in the room, not even in the toilet. We reported it and workers came while we were out. Long story short, the water got hotter and hotter so no showers. We would have been scalded. Eventually maintenance admitted it was an ongoing issue in our wing. They needed to clear out everyone to make repairs. They never should have let anyone move in. They let us use the shower in the adjoining room but that one also got way to hot. I went down to the lobby and got no help. I asked for a few of their giveaway bottles of water to take my diabetic meds. I was told to go to one of the water machines. The whole thing was never resolved. I gave three stars because a few staff members were wonderful in their efforts to assist us. There were some refunds given to us but this was our 50th wedding anniversary, a very special occasion and it was ruined.

The location is not to be beat. Our corner unit was bright and beautiful. We had a handicap room. The accommodations were perfect. The car was convenient and outdoor. Absolutely love this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. I can’t stop bragging about this hotel

We drove all day from West Palm Beach to stay 1 night at the Hyatt Centric in. Key West.
Our 1-night stay was so disappointing.
First off, our room. had NO view. Our room looked out to the back of one of the hotel's other buildings. We didn't expect to be put in a room with NO view! Unbelievable! Shocking in fact!
How can anyone rate this a 4 or 5-star hotel?
Avoid staying in a room located near the front desk office location. No view.
Second, the next morning all morning long we heard the constant beeping of the mechanized lift that was pruning the palm trees on the property. The hotel had never given us a prior warning about this noise.
We complained at the time of checkout. To their credit, management did give us a partial refund of the Hyatt Discoverist points we had used to pay for our brief 1-night stay.
Would we stay at the Hyatt Centric in Key West again? No!!! To get a room with NO view and to experience constant noise in the morning was clearly not what we expected when we booked this hotel. Not what we expected from a "first class hotel," which it is not!
The Hyatt Centric is SO VERY expensive! It is not worth it. The Hyatt Centric in Key West cost us 40,000 Hyatt Discoverist points (before the partial refund). In comparison, the Hyatt Regency in Sarasota only cost us 15,000 Hyatt Discoverist points for a 1-night stay. The room in Sarasota was nice and came with a great view. Even the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach is only 20,000 Hyatt Discoverist points for a 1-night stay.
Why is the Hyatt Centric so expensive? Probably because it is so centrally located. It is only a couple of long blocks to Duval Street where the better restaurants are in downtown Key West. A few blocks further away in the same area is the Ernest Hemingway House.
As my wife can't walk far, we actually drove our car to the tourist attractions in Key West and found parking near each location.
Be aware that the Hyatt Centric Hotel is not that big a property. The pool area is small and feels confining. There is no beach to speak of. No sandy beach. Can't see children being at this hotel. Not really for children. The hotel is by the harbor. The Four Flamingos restaurant is not rated as well as other restaurants in downtown Key West. So why stay here?
The main thing the Hyatt Centric has going for it in Key West is location, location, location. But is it worth the price when there are alternative decent accommodations available? We don't think so.
Key West is lovely and quaint, but the Hyatt Centric is way too expensive for what one receives. Not worth the expense. We would recommend staying at another resort and driving into downtown Key West to enjoy all the sights there.
Don't waste your money staying at the Hyatt Centric in Key West.

Overpriced but still a good Key West option

This was my first visit to Key West and we decided to stay 3 nights at the Hyatt Centric Key West. It slightly pained me to pay the 45k/night for a property that I didn’t think was going to be super high end (though it’s a cat 8 now), but the cash rates were crazy high everywhere (holiday week, well over $800 per night) so it still seemed to be a decent option if I had the points to use up. It’s in a great location, about a 3 min walk from Duval St and very walkable (we didn’t rent a car and mostly just walked/Uber’d), so you’re definitely paying for location here in the heart of Key West. Theres only one other Hyatt option in key west and it’s not walkable to downtown (by the airport).
Upon arrival, we were offered welcome beverages (a nice touch and very Key West). Although the room wasn’t available when we arrived early, they held our bags and gave us a temporary key so we could use the bathroom/change/hang by the pool/etc. They texted a few hours later that our room was ready and they’d upgraded us to a larger room on a higher floor. It was a (very) partial ocean view (unfortunately it was the bldg closest to the parking lot) but had a small balcony and was quite spacious. I’d emailed in advance that we were celebrating a special occasion and they had a key lime dessert waiting for us upon our arrival which was very appreciated. The room had robes (no slippers) and free waters (refillable bottles). The AC was strong and worked well, but it’s not central AC (individual units) and they were VERY noisy pretty much all the time. There was also a constant ringing noise coming from somewhere that we couldn’t quite figure out…if we’d been staying longer I would’ve complained about it but the AC largely drowned it out so I never bothered reporting it. Bed was comfy enough. Room had a separate couch/TV sitting area, plus mini fridge and safe. Otherwise, no frills. No turndown service or anything like that (wasn't expecting it).
This hotel has a pool/hot tub/tiny “beach” area and has its own little dock with some water sports offered. There's also a hot tub. This worked out well for us because we didn’t want to spend the entire day out on Duval St bar hopping etc (not drinkers), so it was nice to go out to brunch/explore for a bit in the mornings, but then be able to come back to the pool/beach and just chill in the afternoons. The "beach" is super tiny, like less than 10 chairs probably, but still appreciated the waterfront view. I was worried there would be a limited chair issue as is common at resort properties, but it was never an issue and we were able to get chairs every time we tried (makes sense in retrospect...most people aren't necessarily in Key West to just lay by the pool!). Because the pool is located in the middle of the buildings, it is often shaded and does not get a ton of direct sun (at least that was my observation). Also noticed it was quite windy at this particular location; not sure if it was just the few days we were there or this time of year or if it’s always like this, but it was quite breezy at this particular spot on the coastline and I kept wishing I’d brought a sweatshirt outside with me! Especially as the sun started to set around 4:30. Very nitpicky comment here but the pool chairs were quite uncomfortable-not padded at all.
There’s a beach/pool bar which we didn’t take advantage of; they seemed inconsistent about wandering around and taking orders poolside (only once did we observe someone walking around asking for orders). I did get a smoothie the morning of our departure before going to the airport and it was awful-sadly threw the entire thing away after spending way too much on it. Towels were provided in the gift shop. We didn’t do any of the water sports offered through the hotel but appreciated the options and it would be nice especially for those traveling with kids.
Random and fun thing-the hotel has a bunch of (real) turtles and a parrot and they’re fun to watch for both kids and adults. At first I didn't think the turtles were real!
Other random things: There’s a gym though I can’t say I used it. We didn’t have a ton of interactions with staff; the “concierge” is the gift shop staff so it doesn’t quite seem like a full time separate concierge dept? They did respond to my emails ahead of time regarding the special occasion but otherwise didn’t seem to be as helpful as other concierges I’ve worked with in the past with regard to restaurant recs and other questions I’d had. There is a spa but we didn’t use it so can’t speak to that. There was no airport shuttle of any kind despite it only being 15 min away (easy enough to Uber…but considering the category/price, sort of wish these details were included). Similarly, it would be really nice if they offered golf cart shuttle rides around downtown key west…yes it’s all quite walkable, but it’s hot and humid and so many people drive golf carts around-and it would be nice if the hotel offered this to guests (I believe they have bikes though). There's a fun Bevi sparkling water machine in the lobby to refill the water bottle from your room with fun flavor options.
Overall, no regrets-I wanted to go to Key West over the holidays and it was pricey everywhere, so I’m glad I had the points to use even if I wasn’t thrilled paying such a high rate for a not super luxurious property (despite it somehow having a category 8 rating!). Even though it wasn’t the fanciest beach/pool property out there, I was glad to at least have some private "beach"/pool access while there (gave us something to do besides roam Duval st!), and the walkable location was very convenient.
