DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Hotel Fiji – Sonaisali Island

We absolutely loved our recent stay at Double tree Fiji. This place is the perfect spot for a certain type of traveller and as long as you know what to expect, you will not be disappointed! Sonaisali island is located 30mins or so from the Nadi airport and costs about $65 FJD to get there. It’s a bit further than many of the other hotels on Denarau and although taxis are easily accessible, there will be more travel and additional fares to account for if you are intent on doing day trips and excursions. If you simply want a relaxing holiday where you can enjoy a very cozy and welcoming resort environment, this is your place. The staff are fantastic - the gardens and tree life around the resort were maintained everyday. Everybody was friendly and greeted us enthusiastically with a cheery ‘bula’. The breakfast buffet was amazing and offered many healthy options, perfect also for my spouse who is vegetarian. We often ate an early dinner at the end of the lunch sitting (closes 4 pm) and found the prices extremely reasonable. For reference, a small flat white was probably the equivalent of a 6oz at home and cost only $5 FJD (25% cheaper than NZ). I have seen many comments about the facilities looking tired but they get the key things right at Double tree - the room was spotlessly clean and staff worked hard to maintain the grounds. Insects and birds are a natural part of island life but we saw staff doing their best to minimise their impact during our stay. For example, a bird netting was set up to prevent opportunistic birds from taking food scraps from tables. The beach lounges look out to a massive expanse of sea and was where we spent most of our days. There is no beach to swim at but the pool more than compensates for this. If don’t normally write reviews but I want Ted to acknowledge the staff working at Double Tree and all their efforts! We will be back.

I was truly privileged to spend an unforgettable time at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fiji - Sonaisali Island. As someone who's been strictly gluten-free and dairy-free since 2020, finding exceptional accommodations can be a challenge. The resort's pastry chef, Bruce, went above and beyond. His creativity shone through in every custom creation—think gluten-free, dairy-free pastries bursting with tropical flavors like fresh mango and orange marmalade (I've attached a photo to capture the magic!). The journey from the US to Fiji is undeniably long, but oh, so rewarding—the moment you arrive, the turquoise waters and swaying palms invite you in. The bure was delightful, with impeccable climate control that kept things perfectly cool amid the humid island breeze, blending luxury with that authentic Fijian escape. I particularly enjoyed the mornings at breakfast, savoring Bruce’s personalized delights, and the serene evenings unwinding on the island, toes in the sand under a starlit sky. This resort is a must for anyone seeking relaxation and thoughtful hospitality!

Just had another sensational stay at Double Tree Fiji Sonaisali Resort. Been coming here for family and business stays for many, many years and the Resort under GM's Leadership of Shanaka Perera has the Resort looking the best I have seen in some 40 odd visits, the team is amazing, facilities spotless and food and service above expectation, Thankyou we had a wonderful time and be back soon.

This is a fine hotel with a great location. The hotel is located on a peninsula, but you can not drive, you need to park a car in the hotel parking lot on shore. The trip across on a small boat works fine and is only 5 minutes 24/7. The beach has the same issue as many other hotels on the west-coast of Fiji: A wall and lava-rocks are placed, so that there really is no beach! You should plan for using the pool all the time, which is fine enough, but nobody tells you in advance :) We had a beachside bungalow on the southern side of the main building and we had approx. 700 meters up to the restaurants! If you have trouble with walking make sure you get a room close to the main building, as it's quite a long walk. If you get the last bungalow I would think it's over a kilometer to breakfast AND back again! When we arrived, the bungalow had been offered to someone staying longer and was not ready at checking-time. We accepted the wait for maybe 30 minutes more, but when we arrived at the bungalow cleaning was still working on it and the floors were completely wet, not the best experience... On our first night we wanted to have dinner in the outdoor restaurant instead of the normal "all-inclusive-buffet" thing in the main restaurant. Showing up we were greeted with: Have you not made a booking? No. Our next available time is 19:00 - it was at 18:45. The restaurant was almost completely empty on 25 tables with 2 tables occupied. That seemed to be a bit arrogant... We asked if we could sit somewhere and have a drink, but that was not possible according to the waiter! I guess it was because drinks are picked up from the poolbar and that would include a little bit of work for the waiter.... We went to the poolbar on our own, only to meet a waiter that said happyhour was over and we could not get beer! We didn't request any happy hour prices and after some discussions "he started working on finding beers".... it took some time.. At 19:00 we had had our beers and got the now "booked" table in the restaurant, ordered food and drinks and the waiter went to the poolbar to pick up drinks.... This is not acceptable behavour in a 4 star hotel, get out of the management office and check your staff. At another time we had to give up getting drinks at the poolbar, as the two people working there chose to ignore us, although it's difficult when you're on the "wet" side of the bar.... Around the world happy hour is you order one drink and get another for free. Here you can choose a limited number of products and you get a 20% discount... Don't call it happy hour, if it's not happy hour!

Overall DoubleTree Resort By Hilton Hotel Fiji - Sonaisali Island is very good & we very much enjoyed our stay! The grounds is well cared for and clean though I wish the whole island was as clean. Staff is excellent at their respective jobs. Life definitely moves slower on the island so remember to relax; there’s no need to hurry. The resort was not at max capacity but we had no problem getting chairs/umbrella, eating at their restaurants (they do prefer reservations at their fanciest one), using the gym, etc. The food overall is good but not great. We definitely didn’t go hungry! Keeping in mind we’re in the middle of the south pacific, I'd highly recommend this hotel.

We’ve just returned home from a week at Double-tree Fiji Our family absolutely loved our stay and would return in a heart beat All of the staff were amazing and friendly and went over and above to ensure we had a wonderful stay My 12yo son absolutely loved the pool, and the swim up bar is a great bonus feature There are plenty of seating around the pool, you do at times have other guests “reserving” loungers with towels which is rude, but no the fault or the staff or hotel We were able to find somewhere to sit each time, though it may be more challenging in peak periods Our room was beautifully clean and the air conditioning worked well, offering us a cool oasis to return to each evening The housekeeping staff and lovely and do a fabulous job, even making towel animals and leaving notes which my son adored! The grounds are immaculately maintained and any maintenance issues are promptly resolved We had a half board dining package which included breakfast and dinner We found the food to be great for the most part, and loved the fresh tropical fruits and freshly made juices each morning. The evening buffet changed every night giving a good variety and plentiful options The Fijian themed, Seafood Night were highlights as was the Indian themed/Diwali night The offerings from Tavu were exceptional, my husband particularly enjoyed the whole fish dish The evening entertainment was also fabulous! The singers they had each evening were amazing and very talented The whole family loved the cultural show and fire dancing performances The resort is an easy 30-40 minute trip from Nadi international airport and about the same distance from Denarau and the Marina So far enough to have that quiet, secluded vibe but close enough to pop in for a meal or boat tour Being a smaller resort, it felt much more intimate and quiet than the bigger “fancier” resorts which suited our family to a tea, along with anyone else who just wants to relax and unwind without the hustle and bustle of dealing with crowds of people all day long There is also a kids club though our son chose not to try that out Vinaka Double-Tree! We hope to return soon

The natural habitat and setting with palm trees, sand, ocean, mountains in the background, relaxing resort AND the friendliest and most wonderful staff of human beings. It was a perfect stay - we felt immersed in the culture and living while here. Accommodations were spacious and well appointed. Everyday, fresh hibiscus flowers were placed on our bed. A hot pot for coffee and tea. Nightly entertainment from 6-9pm. Beautiful sunsets, palm trees and beach chairs with umbrellas facing the ocean. A daily 2 mile nature walk along the beach to the north of the resort. Truly a reinvigorating time - we didn't even leave the resort.

Once again, the Fijian people — the staff — are absolutely marvelous. Honestly, even if this place were hell, their warmth and friendliness would make you think you were in heaven. They are some of the nicest people I’ve met across the five continents I’ve visited. That said, the hotel itself is in need of a major renovation. It feels old and a bit run down, but don’t get me wrong — everything works, and one of my biggest peeves is well taken care of: it’s clean! The price matches the facility; if you want a more modern, updated resort, you’ll simply need to pay for it elsewhere. For what you spend here, you definitely get fair value. The guests are a unique mix — from tattooed, wannabe-hipster types to retired couples and nice families with kids. A bit of everything, really. But in the end, the staff’s warmth and kindness win you over. After a few days, the place truly grew on us. I’d come back — though my better half might not — so form your own opinion. A few notes: some reviews mention the A/C being underpowered for the rooms, and they’re right. It’s manageable, but I do wonder how it holds up in hotter months. The location is great — about 25 minutes from Nadi and Port Denarau. However, if swimming in the ocean is a must for you, this isn’t the spot. The beach isn’t really swimmable, but it’s a perfect base to relax, explore, and enjoy Fiji. The pool is nice, though seating around it is limited, which can get annoying since it’s the main place to cool off. The food is good and fairly priced — and to their credit, they don’t take advantage of having a captive audience. In short, the property needs an upgrade, but the staff makes the experience special. Their genuine hospitality turns what could be an average stay into a memorable one.

From the moment we stepped off the boat and were greeted with warm smiles and momentous hospitality, we knew the arrival in paradise was a reality. The staff at DoubleTree by Hilton Fiji rolled out the red carpet — literally and figuratively — with heartfelt “Bula!” greetings, and an unforgettable welcome that set the tone for our entire stay. The island setting is absolutely breathtaking. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters and lush greenery, the resort feels secluded yet conveniently close to Nadi. Our beachfront bure was spotless, spacious, and beautifully designed with modern touches and traditional Fijian charm. Waking up to the sound of waves and watching sunsets from the veranda was simply unforgettable, along with the sounds of coconuts falling from the trees. Dining was another highlight — every meal was delicious and fresh, especially the seafood. The dining was amazing — from fresh island breakfasts to romantic dinners under the stars. The cocktails, live music, and friendly atmosphere created the perfect island escape. We loved the live Fijian music in the evenings, creating the perfect island vibe with the fire dancers and interaction with the staff and guest. Whether relaxing by the infinity pool, horseback riding on the beach, or indulging in a soothing spa treatment from Ms Amelia, there was always something special to enjoy. The staff members, Anup, Shanaka, and AP just to name a few who remembered our names, my wife’s allergies and room number, shared stories, and treated us with genuine warmth — that personal touch made all the difference by acknowledging us for all appearances. Every single detail — from the personalized service to the thoughtful touches — made us feel like royalty. DoubleTree by Hilton Fiji didn’t just meet expectations; they exceeded them in every way celebrating my wife’s 50th Birthday. Our stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Fiji, Sonaisali Island was pure perfection ,a beautiful mix of luxury, relaxation, and heartfelt hospitality. We had a lovely stay here. As an Honors member, we were given an upgrade, and it was very nice. The staff could not have been better!! We were ALWAYS acknowledged when we encountered a staff member, and often, even by name. We enjoyed a pedicure and massage at the spa. They did a FANTASTIC job and I felt the prices were very reasonable. The breakfast buffet was good, with a good amount of choices. We ate the seafood buffet (Saturday night) and enjoyed the entertainment during the meal and fire show afterwards. There were plenty of loungers available when we were there, even though many people felt they were entitled to leave a towel on one to reserve for SEVERAL hours before actually using them….very rude! The grounds were kept up well. I would return in a heartbeat! Again, the staff was INCREDIBLE!!
