Stayed for 2 weeks this hotel is beautiful immaculately clean we had a corner deluxe room facing the pool which was amazing we had emailed hotel before and we got exactly we room we requested .Yes you have to be up Early for a sunbed I don't like reserving a bed but you had no choice if you didn't by 8am they were all gone . We were in block 67 concierge was a man and a lady which were both amazing we had a complaint about barstaff and she brought us a bottle of baileys to our room .The food in the buffet was amazing loads of choice and always hot , staff were so friendly and helpful and it was also very quiet which we loved .We only did m e.at restaurant and sorry it was a awful experience ,we were rushed to order staff watching us all the time and the steak was not very good we walked out halfway through and went to the buffet restaurant .Cleaners were amazing everything immaculately clean .Room service was amazing staff always so happy when bringing our food .Loved the coffee shop staff always friendly and welcoming always filled my bottle with milk so we could make a cup of tea in our room. Our worst experience was with the barstaff I always tipped staff but the bar staff are greedy for money , I watched over people tipping loads and I always had to wait they always served the ones throwing money at them first and when talking alot of other people had this experience. Foam party was fun , night entertainment on a night was very disappointing , had 2 amazing shows around the pool , the hotel needs to use the pool area on a night and have a show every night there was loads of people , the shows near the lobby were awful we did go to another hotel which wasn't good , i dont want to be hoing to other hotels i want to stay in the hotel im staying at , alot of people were complaining about the entertainment on a night seems as if they focus more throughout the day than on a night , hotel is still an amazing experience and I definitely picked the right hotel would definitely come back it's just the barstaff needs to understand we all pay alot of our money for a holiday and we all deserve to be treated the same and entertainment needs looking at

Great resort. Our room was clean, the staff were friendly (most of them anyway) and the food was good :) The resort complex is HUGE but the Ambar section is a smaller area; perfect size, if it was on it's own. It has it's own section on the beach which was great. The only reason we wouldn't go back is the towel reservation situation. I have NEVER seen it this bad at any other resort I've been to. If you're not up at 6:00am - good luck getting a chair by the pool - you definitely won't get one with shade. People put their towels on chairs early in the morning and then don't return until the afternoon (if at all). There are no staff policing this. There were two altercations between guests about this during our stay. Same at the beach; most palapas are taken early in the morning. Thankfully, there are plenty of palm trees that provide shade but then you're moving your chairs around chasing it. We saw multiple chairs sit unused all day long.

Absolutely perfect break at The Ambar. Facilities, surroundings, rooms, food, cleanliness, helpfulness of staff were all spot on. We felt valued and that nothing was a problem. We have had the loveliest time here and would return in a heartbeat.

Out of fairness the only reason this isn’t a 5 is because we stayed at a nicer resort last year (secrets tides punta cana) so it’s hard to shake that. It’s a massive resort so if you prefer boutique sized this isn’t the place for you. They do a great job however getting people around on golf carts and we never seemed to have to wait for a cart for very long. The rooms are nice enough and clean and our cleaner (yganicia?) did a great job with a smile everyday. The beach is beautiful and they do a great job of removing seaweed. The pool is decent as well. Here is one of the downsides that has been mentioned in other reviews…the battle for shade is the craziest I have ever seen at a resort. Literally you had to be up at 6am to claim a seat under a tiki hut. Even earlier if you wanted to be in the front row. It was something to get down there that early to see people stumbling around in the dark. The pool was almost as bad but you could get an umbrella a little later. There is a guy at the beach however wearing a yellow staff shirt that works his butt off to find you a chair and some shade if you need it. The food was actually pretty good. You definitely need to book your dinners ahead as they won’t let you in without a reservation the buffet excepted of course. Our favourite was Yurta and Meat which we did both twice. Portofino and the fishmarket were just ok. The sports bar has awesome wings and burger. The breakfast buffet was decent as well. For those trying to stay on top of their fitness the gym is actually pretty good for a resort gym. Enough free weights and machines to get you by. The skeeters are pretty heavy in some areas at night as well so bring bug spray. All in all it was a good trip but we will try somewhere different next year.

I booked a week here for my wife’s 40th birthday treat. Upon arriving after a 10 hour journey I found the lady that booked us in at reception was not overally welcoming or informative sadly. The bellboy and the consierge was superb though and took us to our room and gave us some useful info on the walk. The room was a good size and clean and was cleaned daily as well as fully stocked mini fridge everyday. During the course of our week here I’d say the vast majority of staff were fantastic and always going out their way to say hi or chat and the service was good overall. The two main members of staff that stood out was Ramon (the Rowell guy) and Miguel (breakfast chef) always great fun and smile / chat. The entertainment staff work hard and try to do a good mix of activities / fun. The DJ was a great guy too who always went out his way to come and say hello and provide some great chilled tunes around the pool in the mornings - as the afternoon kicks in the ents team ramp it up and it is a little bit 18/30 vibe at times - but enjoyed it. I would say though that the rest of the ents team didn’t really ever come and chat or say hello and only seemed interested in the young party people or young ladies at the resort. BUT they do work long hours and try to create a good energy especially aqua gym! We loved the pool foam party. Some great visiting live acts too, a young chap on a guitar was amazing and the fire show from three guys was top class. The food So much choice plus the extra restaurants on site you can book, The mani. Buffet was always a good choice of foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner but did find the food a little cold most days. But highly renamed going to see Miquel for an eggs Benedict it was sublime. We tried the Italian / M.E.A.T and to rodizios as part of the a l carte restaurants. MEAT and Portofino Italian was AMAZING the service and food was top class. Unfort rodizios was slack service , no cutlery on tables and had to find someone, food was not anything to blow the mind and we were quite disappointed. The on site coffee shop was superb, great coffee and ice lattes too. Getting round resort was easy with the buggy train bus that takes you from site to site. The sports bar always had a good vibe and drinks were good but again on two visits during the week found the bar staff not very welcoming sadly. Overall we enjoyed the resort and felt safe and certainly relaxed, the vibe is great but just feel there a few areas that need attention from management to bring it to a 5 star resort again.

We stayed at Bahia Ambar from February 18 - February 27 and we traveled with another couple. Check in was smooth and we were happy with the size of our room. It had a nice size shower, ample towels, private toilet area with a door, king size bed and a balcony. Our fridge was always stocked with drinks, water and peanuts and our maid kept our room beautifully clean. The bed I'm afraid was the worst I have ever slept in. Hard as rock doesn't even describe it. I was up every hour as my back hurts and I could not get comfortable. The pillows however were the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We tried several a la cartes The Greek, Brazilian, Portofino, Tapanaki and Meats and our favorite hands down was Meats. The service, atmosphere and food were exceptional. Try the specialty drink Apple Amaretto it was yummy. It was my husband's birthday February 20th and guest services provided a bottle of champagne in our room as well as a banner on the door. Cerena (I'm sorry if I misspelled her name) at the pool had a cake and sang happy birthday to him it was so amazing. Thank you so much for going above and beyond to make his day special. As frequent all inclusive travelers in the Dominican Republic the entertainment during the day was almost non existent. We would be asked if we want to play corn hole or volleyball and they wouldn't come back. Only a couple of days had foam parties but really nothing else was going on so if you are looking for more to do during the day then perhaps try the Aquamarine. Finally Ruddy. He is the pool guy and what he was doing in my opinion was appalling. He put books on loungers with umbrellas to show the seats are taken. He did this on prime spots knowing people would be looking for them. The pool has way more loungers than umbrellas so unless you are down there at 6:30 you will never get one. Ruddy would offer these umbrellas to guests and they would tip him. We watched other staff when Ruddy was not around giving guests umbrellas and would not accept tips but Ruddy would put his hand out expecting it. If you did not tip him or didn't tip him what he expected he had such a look of disgust on his face I've never seen anything like it. During our last day a couple was looking for an umbrella and my brother in law told them to take the one Ruddy put books on because nobody is there. Ruddy came over and started arguing with him and was told we know what you are doing and his tone changed and said ok you can have it. This kind of thing should not be happening to paying guests and we should not be hustled for additional money because Ruddy is a scammer. Not sure how he gets away with it or how management is not aware but this is why I put it in my review. The Ruddy business aside we had a nice time.

This resort is listed as a 5 star and maybe it is in Dominican but it is more a 3 star compared to other places I have been in other countries. The Room: It was nice but you can see it’s aging. The toilet only flushed half the time then would stay running until you smacked the button a bunch. The sink drained really slow and the housekeeping staff left the gross insert of the drain on the counter every day. The shower pressure was so low we could only use the hand piece instead of the rain shower head. The bathtub would have taken a full day to fill up because of the low pressure so we only used it once. Don’t waste your money on the ‘upgraded’ junior corner suite - the only difference is it’s a bit larger and larger balcony and has the tub. Stick to the regular suite to save a bit. The bed wasn’t too bad, I read many reviews about how hard and uncomfortable it was but we enjoyed it - depends what you sleep on at home! The temperature was great, the ceiling fan kept it nice and cool. We slept great! It was very quiet as well. Housekeeping: We were not impressed with ours. We tipped her yet never got fresh towels unless we called the desk, she didn’t replace our garbage bag so we had to keep asking for new ones, the floors remained dirty and so was the mirror and counter. Basically seems like she just made the bed and took the dirty towels away. For 5 stars this was 2 star service. The Resort: The entire place was spotless from the lobby to the beach. It’s clear the staff work hard to keep it clean and maintained. All staff were friendly and helpful but it gets tiring being harassed daily to get a time share or sign up at the spa. It would be nice if they let you just enjoy your vacation and approach them if you want to check out the other services. The Beach: It wasn’t a bad spot but really annoying that the staff allow people to claim their chairs the night before. Also the harassment all day long from the same vendors was really annoying when you’re trying to relax. The vendors should be allowed to set up stations to let guests go to them. We were asked all day long by the same vendors selling the same items which makes you want to leave but I prefer to sit by the ocean which they ruin the enjoyment of it. The Pool: Enjoyed the pool but the same issue with people saving seats the night before and the staff allowing it. If you’re looking to relax the music blasts all day long really loudly. Food: We enjoyed the food. Again, it’s not 5 star but there’s a lot of options. Portofino and the MEAT restaurants were both good and so were the buffets. Ate by the beach the most and it was good. Entertainment: This resort is definitely on the more relaxed side with the majority of guests being seniors so depending what type of trip you’re looking for you may or may not want to book here. I enjoyed the little bit of entertainment they had and that the noise stops at 11pm but otherwise it’s a pretty boring place if you’re done sitting around there is not much else to do. The ocean has no snorkelling, the excursions offered were not very interesting and you can only walk the same stretch of beach so many times.

My partner and I arrived 29th Jan and stayed for two weeks, booked via TUI. We arranged a private transfer with Tui, we are glad as this meant we weren’t delayed on the bus and in fact we had checked in, freshened up and were having a drink in the lobby bar by the time those from our flight arrived! On arrival we were warmly greeted by Jesus and when we enquired about an upgrade to a swim up that would get afternoon sun, he suggested room 67114 - he explained it got sun from early morning until mid-afternoon, but by this time there would be beds freed up on the beach/pool. The location was close to the pool/beach and restaurants. Upgrading at the hotel was significantly cheaper than with TUI. The room wouldn’t be ready until the next day so we stayed in the original allocated room for the first night. The original room had a birthday banner, some chocolates and a small bottle of cava. We went to freshen up and the shower head was not working properly. Also had we stayed in this room for the duration we wouldn’t have been happy – 2 weeks looking at the back of the hotel next door! Next day we transferred room, the bell boys were great in coming to help move our cases. The location was perfect, and Marlene was fantastic in coming round all day every day to deliver drinks for all of us in the block. Marlene was a pleasure to see – always smiling and chatty. Our concierge Junior met us on arrival at the hotel and made sure to check in with us every day – either phoning the room or coming and finding us to check everything was ok and if we needed anything further. We asked if some more beers could be added to the mini bar and for every day after we were fully stocked. On my birthday Junior also arrived with a bucket of ice with beers and champagne – a lovely gesture. If we hadn’t of had a swim up room I don’t think we would have enjoyed the holiday – its clear there are just not enough sunbeds with shade, that mixed with people reserving beds both at the beach and pool means if you aren’t up by 8am you will struggle to find somewhere to sit (bearing in mind we stayed in the high season). We also found the pool to be a bit relentless with the same music being played all day. It would have been nice to have a quiet pool somewhere. Having said that, we did find the afternoon “silly game” entertaining to watch and whoever it is from the entertainment team that comperes – he really is funny. The food was a little hit and miss. The main buffet for breakfast was excellent, we didn’t try lunch, but dinner a couple of times wasn’t great. We tried the beach buffet for breakfast and lunch, wasn’t really a hit for us. We tried the following a’la carte restaurants: Limbo, good food and service. MEAT – one of our favourites but we had heard the steaks could be hit and miss, ours was always a hit and Jesus our waiter went above and beyond on my birthday. Portofino, service and good was good as long as you difdnt have the pasta or pizza (basically anything “Italian), the steak and ribs were great. Naan was awful, nothing served resembled the menu, service was awful and we actually left half way through the “tasting menu” – we actually laugh about how awful it was. Yurta was ok – I really don’t get the rave reviews – it’s a stir fry – you choose what you want and they cook it, yes it was nice to have a piping hot meal but it wasn’t anything special, but service was good. Taino was one of our favs, really tasty goat curry and good service. Rodizio was by far the worst, service was awful and we left once we were served up fatty beef and chicken that hadn’t been cooked properly! Room service for lunch was always spot on and very quick. They guys delivering were always polite, cheerful and the food s We visited the sports bar a couple of times, the chicken wings and mozzarella sticks were good and service was hit and miss. By far our favourite bar was the lobby, Ronaldo and the ladies serving were always greeting us with a smile and making sure we had all we wanted. The coffee shop was a nice addition to grab a good coffee in the morning. All in all, we felt the price paid for the two weeks was good value for money and we enjoyed our two weeks, but we probably wouldn’t look to return. The resort as a whole is just too big, and I think this causes issues with sunbeds on the beach, pool and potentially booking restaurants.

Arrived from our Cruise ship 12:30 and as anticipated Check in was 15:00, so not all rooms were ready, but that was okay, we left our luggage and were given wrist bands, a welcome drink and shown to the Buffet restaurant - Palmyra for lunch. We were quickly shown to a table, with a Sangria on entry, offered drinks and invited to help ourselves from the food offerings. WHAT A SPREAD. I’ve used many impressive buffets before and this one is right up there as far as choices is concerned. Split into sections of salads, meats, cheeses, hot food choices and then show cooking of fish, pizza, Mexican section with taco’s, Nachos and all the accompaniments, then a whole area of breads, desserts and ice cream. Dilemma was where to start. I had a selection and would have gone for more, it was delicious. Staff are constantly refreshing drinks and ensuring you have a lovely dining experience. We had a look around then were allocated our room, escorted there and shown around. It is an open plan design in the dressing/shower area, this may not be preferable for everyone’s circumstance, but we are a married couple, so no issues. Overall impression of the room was possibly that it was not so ‘luxury’ as the rest of the resort, but only from the point of view, it could have done with a bit of refreshing to give it a more aesthetic appearance. Beds were comfortable, room was clean with usual amenities – toiletries fixed to the walls and some dispensers didn’t push properly making dispensing a little difficult – so just a point to note. Towels were slightly worn, dressing gowns slightly yellowing and some furniture and fitting showing signs of wear and tear. Not a deal breaker for us as we don’t spend much time in the room, but nice towels can take the experience up a notch for me. The mini bar comes stocked with Beer, one bottle each of house vodka, rum and whisky, Pepsi, Orange, Water and Nuts. We did request no vodka or whisky and instead just Rum, we got this sporadically, but found that if we saw the staff member, he would give you what you asked for. The hotel has a large pool area, bars and restaurants, and you are able to use the sistr hotel facilities – we had a wander round one day and did this just to see what was on offer elsewhere, but to be honest, we preferred the Ambar. Lobby is a popular area and I can see why. It is under cover, but technically outside and served by a lovely bar, with lots of tables and chairs spread out and very comfortable. Also just beside this is the coffee shop which serves the usual choices of coffee’s and has an amazing array of cakes, cookies and little sandwiches available all day, we took a couple on a day trip and really appreciated them to refuel, tasty too and a good variety to choose from. We used this often and also for a take away coffee in the morning to have in our room. Pool is fun if you wish to partake in the activities, The schedule is advertised on the App and we made a point of attending a few we fancied, like Wine Tasting – good fun and the Fireshow which was amazing to watch. I use the gym – early in the morning and it was never too busy. It has plenty equipment, in good working order and clean. We used the A-la Carte restaurants for dinner – pre-booking on the App. MEAT – this was lovely with a good choice for all courses. Steak was served cooked as ordered. Portofino – we booked this as a last minute decision and it turned out to be one of our favourites and would have easily come again. Bread selection delicious, cannelloni and lime cake just totally hit the spot and what a lovely Signature drink of Aperol. El Olivo Gourmet Restaurant – loved this little Mediterranean restaurant, tried on am impulse to try new things. We usually stick to steaks, seafood and Italian, and what a good way to branch out. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal. Would definitely have gone again if we had time. LIMBO – we felt this could be a little posh for us, and it was a fine dining experience, again a great selection and we found that the menu was easy to choose from and had yet another excellent meal. Fish Market - We had an amazing selection of fish here – they basically cook up what they have as the fish of the day and we had a selection of Octopus, Mullet, squip, scallops, Shrimp. I had the fish soup which was full of flavour and I asked for the Scallop starter as a main as I wasn’t overly hungry, and was give a large plate of perfectly cooked scallops served on a creamy potato base – Yummy We did the Dominican Fiesta (which is on Thursdays and free admission) at the Bahia Princip Village. This is a good event with entertainment, local food and drinks offering and I a ideal way to spend an evening. We spent an amazing week here. Would definitely come back and would recommend. As a couple with Adult children it was pleasant to stay at an Adult only resort.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Ambar to escape the winter weather in the UK. Had an absolutely wonderful time. Made all the more special by the wonderful friendly staff. Room. Block 64 top floor. Lovely room, Kept spotlessly clean, although we did have a few issues with mosquito bites whilst sleeping. But I never saw one. Lobby area and coffee shop. bar drinks are good quality and a big range of cocktails. The staff doing table service were great. Coffee and cakes in coffee shop were very nice too. Stopped off most days late afternoon Both buffets did a good selection at breakfast. Enjoyed omlettes at Palmera. Had luch at beach buffet most days. Again, great staff and are always up for a laugh. Ate at Al a carte 9 time at 7 different restaurants during our stay. Had no problem booking on app before arrival and during stay. Enjoyed all of them. The wifes a very fussy eater (not me) and always found something. Don't forget that each restaurant have their own cocktails to try. But by far, the best was Limbo for me personally as it gave me a chance to eat outside my comfort zone. Also enjoyed the Mongolian, too. Pool and beaches had the usual issues with people reserving loungers . The earliest I woke was 07.00 and went for a walk. Plenty around the pool, but if you want beds under parasole on the beach, no idea what time you have to get up for them, but they were all taken by then. Personally, we did put our towels down before going to breakfast, usually at 08.00, and had no problems finding a couple of beds on the beach or pool. Mostly beach, as we're not pool party people. Although for a more mature couple, we enjoyed the foam party. The drinks service on the beach was fine too. Beach lovely and clean and sea beautiful and warm Evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable. All in all, it was a great holiday. Usually, when we go away for 14 days, we are ready to come home after 10/11 days, but not this time. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ambar to friends.

NONE of the shrimp were deveined (so they were cooking and serving literal poop), the chicken and steak might as well have been hockey pucks they were so over cooked. If you come here the burgers are the only semi edible thing, just make sure you don't let them serve you one that's been sitting on the grill for an hour because they will gladly give it you. Also only order basic drinks or cocktails otherwise it will be way too sweet. Overall: don't come here for the food or service. The beach is nice if you find a spot. Many better ways to spend your time or money than here
