Occidental Cozumel

The resort is very tropical and grounds well maintained. Our room was clean and a good size with a terrace. Air conditioning worked well, we actually had to turn it off and use the ceiling fan instead! Nice pools and beach. The check in was quite slow. Impossible to get reservations for alacart dining. Food was not great. Drinks were ok, but we have had better. Bars could use more staff, one bartender is not enough at the beach bar. It is a relatively quiet resort in a beautiful setting.

I like going to the Occidental Cozumel. It is not too big or too small. The rooms are large and very clean. The people are friendly and helpful. We usually go to the specialty restaurants and find them to be quite good with excellent service. The omelets at the buffet are very nice as are the pastries. I think that the concierge rooms are worth the few extra dollars. The dive shop is excellent.

Spent 10 days in January at the Occidental. I'm not a picky eater and neither is my partner so we found food every day that was satisfying. The rooms were clean, the staff was attentive, the ocean was great. We had some windy days that pushed some seaweed onto the beach but the staff cleaned it up the best they could. This is my 2nd stay at the Occidental and will be going back!

This hotel should market themselves as a 3.5-4 star experience not 5. Pros: -Gorgeous lush grounds -Large rooms -Hardworking housekeeping -Scuba shop on site and most dive sites are within 10 min boat rides -Jesus and Raul are amazing entertainers for kids -Lifeguard Jonathan has made a great impression, helpful and always smiling -Hotel does a great job for New Year’s party celebration -Affordable, aligns with a 4 star experience Cons: -Painfully slow staff at the front desk, unnecessary long lines during check in -Any simple request requires multiple follow ups and can take days -Mediocre food and drinks even at the specialty restaurants (Mexican, Mediterranean and Seafood) -Cold pool, could use a heater -Not enough sun beds and, as a result, sun bed hoggers all around. Most days, we only had one or two sun beds for seven of us because we refused to be dragged into the sun bed wars -Affordable rates attract low quality guests. We were subjected to theft three times around the pool area. Specifically, a scuba flash light, some jewelry items and even shoes were stolen from our sun bed/table on three separate occasions. We were surprised to see Canadians could be so obnoxious and ill-mannered, odd. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because we chose to overlook the cons and focused on the positives.

The location in relation to the main city, is great. The staff was wonderful, very helpful, from the front desk, to the restaurants, entertainment, cleaning ladies. The were very accommodating. The food at the buffet was better than your average resort food. The only theme night we didn't enjoy was the Oriental. It was very salty. The restaurants were very good. We really enjoyed the Mexican and Seafood. We did have to save chairs at the beach early in the morning, or you have to sit on the sand. They could use more beach chairs. Our server Aaron at the buffet was great 👍. He knew our drink preferences when we went there for breakfast. The entertainment was ok. The musical review on Sunday was the best. All the alcoholic drinks were good. They didn't skimp! Everyone is very friendly and are happy to help. The resort is constantly being refreshed and cleaned. We could have used some racks or something to hang wet clothes. Things don't dry because it was very humid. There was a small clothes line in the bathroom, but it didn't help that much. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and recommend the resort highly.
