This is a beautiful resort located in a lovely stretch of soft sandy beach. The surf was unusually rough and the undertow especially strong when we visited. There have been several drownings - 2 during our 3 day stay so be cautious about the water conditions. The resort charges approximately $40 a day resort fee and parking is $35/day. The resort fee covers several things including access and use of beach chairs and umbrellas.
We dined at the beach grill and it was very good - hamburgers, coconut shrimp, Cobb salad and fish tacos were very tasty and reasonably priced.
The resort has several pools including an adult quiet pool, but go to the beach - that’s why you’re in Hawaii! 😄
The rooms are really well appointed - such comfortable beds and bedding and the views are stunning!

This property is in a beautiful location, Westin bed is comfy as usual, but there are many things lacking for $800 per night. First, and most annoying to me, there is no free coffee in the lobby, and the cup of coffee I bought from the restaurant was $5 for a small cup and it was terrible. So. So. Terrible! Tasted like the stuff you make in your room, or the coffee on an airplane. It was so bad, it literally put me in a bad mood first thing in the morning. Yes I could buy a latte or an Americano, but I should be able to get a cup of coffee and not have to spend $7 for it. For $800 a night, there should be coffee in the lobby for free. I stay at AC and Courtyard Marriott properties all the time, for work for $125 a night and they have free coffee! I was just at the Westin in Waikiki and they have good coffee. This is a remote location so it’s not like we can run to Starbucks down the street! Feels like we are being ripped off because they know you’re gunna want coffee in the morning. Also, I know they are about to do renovations but our room is not clean! There were pubes on our toilet seat when we arrived and our bathtub is dirty. Like, dirty footprints in the tub. Gross. Pools and beach are beautiful, but for $800 per night, I expect so much more! We are here for a couple more days so I’m hoping to just make the best of the beautiful location and beach. If you’re going to spend this kind of money, stay somewhere else!

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at the spa.
The our massages started late without any explanation and my therapist, Rachel was talking the whole time so we couldn't relax.
And at the end, she asked me about my phone number. I don’t why she asked.
I never expected to have such an experience. We paid for that over $500!!
We hope the hotel will do something to prevent other guests from having the same experience.
Other than that we had great times over there. Beautiful ocean, sunsets, etc.
Housekeeping always smile. We often went to Piko to get morning coffee. The employee, Dilan ?!? was very nice and kind. We felt “ Aloha” every single day!

We have stayed at the Hapuna Beach Hotel and the Mauna Kea hotel about 16 times in the past 20 years. We stayed at the Hapuna this year because the Mana Kea was under renovation. The beach, grounds and pools are beautiful. The rooms need major sprucing up. The blanket with pilling and the outdoor cushioned chair was stained and torn.. Gone are the amenities of yesteryear. No emery beards, cotton balls, and makeup remover. There were 3 bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash bolted to the wall. There were no china cups in the room, we had to ask for them. Everything was disposable plastic, not very eco. There was only one nightstand lamp for reading in the room. We had to ask for another one to be delivered. The maid said that the hotel had replaced the nightstand table lamp with a standing light. I pointed out that this was inadequate for reading. Not would I expected for the oceanfront room and the price. It felt like the management were letting things going in the rooms awaiting a new buyer or developer.

The Westin Hapuna Beach has changed hands several times. The Westin has done a great job with the updates and the property is beautiful. Overlooking Hapuna Beach, the sunsets and sun rises were beautiful. Views of Mount Hualalai and Mauna Kea can be seen on clear days. A variety of restaurants to accomodate different travelers budgets was nice to see. The staff from the valet, to the front desk, housekeeping, cultural activities and beach were the best. Always friendly and helpful. Such a great stay! Didn't want to leave.

Valet Parking – On arrival valet parking personnel were great, but they always are.
Front Desk – Check-in was with Michael; I remember him from when it was named the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. He has always been so nice and friendly and our ‘Mahalo’ for his assistance.
The Housekeeping Personnel, they are always the same, Super Great.
Concierge – Amy – Prior to our stay Amy was so kind to make our Thanksgiving Dinner reservation at the Ikena Landing and we definitely appreciated her assistance.
Naupaka Beach Grill – We got to see Bruce and Roydan, they are so super nice. We got to meet Jonathan who was just like Bruce and Roydan, a kind gentleman. We met, I think his name was Jeff, good guy. It was great to see Jerry, unfortunately, by the time Jerry starts working we are off to our room, but Jerry has always been great to us, and we occasionally talk about Fiji, our third favorite place to visit.
Piko Coffee Bar – All personnel who work at this bar are Wonderful, friendly and down to earth people. What was the best, we got to see Mike, haven’t seen him forever, he greeted us with a ‘big hug’.
Naupaka Beach Grill – Food – My husband and I were so disappointed they got rid of the soups. We loved the chowder and Portuguese sausage soup, sooooo good. The sashimi is still the best, love it. The cheese cake is to die for, so fluffy, good job. But what happened to the Fish n Chips, they were watery and why so yellow batter?
Piko Coffee Bar – Food – This has to do with the food sold in the back area of the bar. Great hot dogs. What happened to all good cake, the coconut cake, the carrot cake? Used to have good sandwiches to go, but no more. I know we are picky, but we miss how everything use to be.
My husband and I still give them '5' stars. Next stay will be 7 nights instead of 6, wish it could be 2 weeks, wish we could live there. Mahalo

Upon walking into the expansive and open lobby there is definitely a wow factor! Stunning views from every corner of this beautiful property set in a gorgeous landscape that looks down on the gorgeous white sand beach and scenic backdrop. The food at all of their restaurants was fantastic! We had dinner at their sister property which was a nice option however we had made the better decision to stay at the Westin. It was the nicest of the two with a recent renovation and the property as a whole was so amazing. We drove around to other beaches and resorts and would choose the Westin in a heartbeat! We would highly recommend this for anyone and are looking forward to returning in the near future.

We have been to the Hapuna Beach Resort many times - beginning when it was the Hapuna Prince Hotel (so before it was a Westin). The last time before this visit was during Covid so we gave it some slack in our expectations. It may very well be the best beach on all the Hawaiian Islands. The staff is friendly and solicitous so I would say the service is very good.
But the resort itself is due to up it's game if it wants to compete with the other Luxury properties nearby. The "bones" of the building are good. High ceilings, broad staircases, sweeping ocean views, decent sized guestrooms and everything is clean. But the common areas are sparsely decorated with tired decor. The landscaping is well maintained but not lush. More pots an planting would do a lot to give you the feeling you are in the paradise that you are.
Unfortunately, the rooms are in need of more than a simple cosmetic update (I think the carpet is the only thing that has changed in the most recent times we've been there). Furniture is worn. Threadbare sheets and the blankets were worn and PILLING!!!! The bathroom needs a major overhaul, not just updating the vanity.
A few years ago, they built a set of privately owned condos in front of the main building. This pretty much wiped out most of their rooms in the Ocean View Category. The only way to truly see the sunset from your Lanai is to be on the top 2 floors. Otherwise, to see the ocean from most of the OV rooms you have to look over the roof of the condo complex or over some large trees that block the view on the other wing of the property.
The dining options are the weakest of all the amenities. Except for the continental breakfast, we chose not to eat on property even once on this trip. The breakfast buffet looked plentiful but was lacking imagination and for $50/person, it should be matching in caliber. I will point out that the staff was excellent. It's a shame because a good Fine Dining and casual daytime restaurants could be a draw to guests of other hotels and condos. Especially since we found out that they sell "day passes" for use of the hotel pool, gym and amenities to locals and people staying elsewhere.I can't imaging the current offerings are attracting anyone but Westin guests who don't want to leave the property.
Lastly, if they are going to charge a resort fee, I resent that self parking is not included. Especially since #1 the hotels in this area are remote and you must have a car and #2 This is not a city hotel and Parking lot land is plentiful. Understand that they would charge for valet but it's odd that they boast that fees for both Valet and the self parking are the same $35/day.
The is not a bad hotel just not the Luxury it was or could be. The beach is stellar and the building has such potential to be a WOW. We even speculated that they are possibly waiting for the overhaul of the Mauna Kea property to be completed before removing any of the room inventory for construction or investing in a sorely needed update to the Haupuna as a whole? This theory , I will add, is purely conjecture on my part and is not backed up with any real facts.

Fantastic property, and great staff. The breakfast in the open-air restaurant was something I truly looked forward to each morning. We stayed by the adult pool for most of the week, and it was never too crowded. Wait staff was also incredibly attentive. The rooms really aren't "ocean front", but if you get a higher floor (you walk in on floor 6) you'll have a better view. My only complaint, and this was kind of a bummer, is we arrived on the day the Ironman competition was taking place. From the Kona airport, there's really only one main road to get there, and it was closed. The resulting detour would have taken hours as compared to a 25 minute or so drive. We decided to wait it out at the airport. It would have been INCREDIBLY helpful for the hotel to have given a heads up about this. Essentially, that the only road to our property is closed. Yes, this is well known to the locals, but not something I would have thought to look up prior to arrival. Disappointing that this isn't something that was mentioned ahead of time, but not enough that I wouldn't come back to this delightful property.

Sigh. Stayed there last month and scheduled to return this weekend for my birthday, with an excellent local rate. When I booked, arranged for a cabana at the adult pool which was important to us. Unfortunately in their changing to a new system our cabana reservation was lost and no cabanas by the adult pool were still available, which I discovered when I called them a couple days before to make sure all was in order, so I ended up cancelling. Concierge told me this has happened to many others.
True, they let me cancel without penalty and later the pool manager offered a cabana by the family pool after we cancelled the stay, but there was no coordination with the hotel manager to assist in sorting it out to restore the cancellation, do they not talk to each other? It was not well handled by the hotel and was their error. I don’t think they really care much about the customers.
Plus side, during our recent stay the beach is looking a lot better and great pool side service.
One last slight quibble, as a Bonvoy titanium, we have never been offered any sort of upgrade or recognition other than a cursory acknowledgement at check in. Although to be fair, late chevk out to 1pm has been readily offered and once to 4pm.

This is a gorgeous resort. It's very spread out, so plan to walk a lot. The two pools were fantastic. The beach is quite deep, so the chairs aren't that close to the water. There's a little spot to snorkel where we saw some fish and a sea turtle. We also did kayaking in the morning, which was awesome. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and you can't beat the view. Lunch at the pool was always good. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. They have onsite, free, self-service laundry for guests so we could pack a bit lighter. We took the shuttle to the sister hotel for dinner and sunset one night, which was lovely. I'd happily go back to this hotel.

We ended up here by accident. See my previous Marriott review about that.
Elite Bonvoy members for years. This is a grand hotel. It's what you expect from a Hawaiian resort. Almost all rooms have a fantastic ocean view and our balcony was huge with a table and lounger. Room and bathroom are excellent. Separate shower and tub which is nice. Continental breakfast is fantastic. Large screen TV is good. But none of this matters without good service. Are you ready for the big let down? Are you ready to hear about all the shortcomings? Well guess what, there aren't any!!! We've been here 6 nights. We kept trying to look for issues but found none. This place runs like a Swiss watch. EVERY staff member was fantastic. Read that again. EVERY staff member was fantastic. This is no lie. Read my other hotel reviews for context. From the front desk to the housekeeping. Leizel at breakfast deserves a special shout out! She greets everyone with that special Hawaiian smile we all crave from the mainland. All the staff at breakfast run one tight ship. They know what to do and when to do it. Her service was better than many 5 star restaurants. Everyone here does their job so well, you don't even notice and that's the point. The beach is excellent and swimmable. Pools are good also. This is a model of a professionally run resort. They even have a great grab and go market for day trips on the island. Especially the reasonably priced Ahi salad. I have nothing to fault here. I would absolutely stay here again. Congratulations to all the staff...every single one of them! WELL DONE!!!

The staff was wonderful and attentive from the moment we checked in. Checkin was flawless and fast. We had pool side service the second day we checked in and Jayla was our server and she was awesome. Our drinks never went dry and she was so delightful to visit with. Made for an awesome day. The only complaint was the cabana beds were horrible. For 300/ day and the pad(if you can call it that) was old and wore out. Talked to the general manager Bonnie and she acknowledged our concern and was actually looking at all the beds the next day. Made us feel like our concerns were taken seriously. Ate at the Meridia and Elizabeth was the best server ever. So knowledgeable and so sweet. Made the experience top notch and then the food was superb as well. Well worth the money spent. The Westin Hapuna Beach delivered a great experience and we will definitely be going back . The whole vibe of the property was positive from start to finish!

Very happy, stayed 2 nights before heading out to a rented house. Great views as you enter of pools and Hapuna Beach. Lobby is on 8th floor and we were given a room on the 8th floor with ocean view so very convenient getting around. Elevators are fast if you aren't interested in all the stairs. Room was comfortable and seemed like it had been redecorated/refreshed in recent years. Pool area was great, drink and food service from poolside restaurant very good. Could have spent all day at pool, but that beach! Hapuna Beach is just gorgeous, exactly what you picture for a Hawaiian beach destination. We've stayed all over the island and this is by far our favorite beach for swimming. Had good dinner at Meridia, very good. Also had sunset cocktails and dinner at Copper Bar at Mauna Kea. That is a must, there was live Hawaiian music and a Hawaiian dancer. Coupled with the good food, the background of tiki torches shimmering and the sun setting, it was a lovely vibe and great way to start 2 weeks in Hawaii.

We recently stayed at the Westin Hapuna Beach for our 25th anniversary. We were impressed with the beauty of the beach as well as the cleanliness of the hotel and the hospitality provided by the staff. Ample areas to sit and relax, take in the stunning scenery. The room was beautiful and we were graciously upgraded to a room with a view and a sweet bottle of champagne to celebrate! Watching the sunset from the balcony was bliss. I especially enjoyed the ability to snorkel right in front of the resort with the free snorkel gear provided. We also rented a kayak for an hour, which was also nice. We ate at Naupaka Grill for lunch poolside. It was good! I especially loved grabbing a pastry and latte each morning from Piko and taking it down to the beach while I read and sunbathed. Total relaxation and enjoyment! Would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat! We felt very pampered and treated like VIPs!

Our room was spacious and while it was listed as a partial ocean view, I thought it was spectacular. We also encountered numerous staff who were so kind and made our stay. Jhene at check in was so kind and sweet and made us feel so welcome and at home. At Ikena every morning for breakfast, Marimar, Krystal, Ginger, and Maddie were a joy to see everyday and always had friendly and smiling faces. Charlie at the omlette station also was so nice to see every morning. The free guest laundry was a nice touch as well. All in all we would stay here again in a heartbeat next time we are on the big island.

I stayed at Westin Hapuna Beach back in 1995 when I was living and working in Hawaii and the hotel had just opened.
Finally returning this past month I found it the spectacular place I always remembered. The property seems in great shape 30 years later, and I would recommend the Westin as the quintessential Hawaii beach experience. Hapuna is likely your best beach option on the Big Island.
We had a “partial ocean view" on 7th floor which provided an impressive view of gardens and the Pacific, and was spacious and well furnished.
The parking staff was brilliant - enthusiastically providing me clear directions for running - suggesting a loop incorporating the gorgeous Ala Kahakai trail to Mauna Kea resort. Pools were crowded, but comfortable. Fitness center was excellent. The a la carte breakfast was a lovely setting – granted it was absurdly expensive at $70 for coffees, Acai bowl and some blueberry pancakes. Dinner at the poolside was delicious and casual and great service and great value for captive audience at an upscale resort.
My only complaint was the arrival, check-in experience which really should be a magical moment. Instead we were brusquely handed a perfunctory welcome drink and defensively informed of resort fees and parking charges (which we were already aware of). I can appreciate that the reception staff might have become more defensive after dealing with argumentative, entitled guests demanding upgrades, but still, I was hoping for the welcoming arrival experience at Westin Hapuna I remembered from years ago.

We usually stay at Hyatt whenever we travel, but this was our first time trying out a Westin—and honestly, we had mixed feelings. The property in Hawaii is beautiful, the location is perfect, and most of the amenities were really nice. We loved the pool area and the overall vibe of the place.
However, right from the moment we arrived, we didn’t feel very welcomed. It was a bit of an odd first impression—no warm greeting, which kind of threw us off. We were expecting a little more hospitality, especially for a hotel of this level.
Another thing that stood out was the lack of vegetarian food options. As vegetarians, we found it tough to enjoy meals on-site. There wasn’t much to choose from, and the breakfast buffet was especially disappointing—aside from the fresh, hot omelette station (which was great), everything else looked a bit sad and limited.
We really hope Westin considers improving the guest welcome experience and offering more inclusive food options. That would make a big difference. Still, we enjoyed parts of our stay and might consider coming back if those things are addressed.

As long time Kauai residents, we've stayed at many resorts here in the islands. The Westin Hapuna has so much going for it. Situated at the north end of a long stretch of sandy white beach with crystal clear swimmable ocean water, it's location can't be beat. The expansive views from the lobby and breakfast dining areas are spectacular. The staff, with a special shout out to Virgil for making our stay so special, are helpful and friendly. The Premier Ocean View King room that we stayed in is well laid out, has both a shower and a separate tub and the balcony punee and bar chairs and table are so functional. We liked having an adults only pool and hot tub that were open until 10pm. There are many resorts at varying price points on the west side of the Big Island. For value for your money, I'd say the Westin Hapuna is the best choice. Can't wait to return.

Lots of great fitness equipment and it was never too busy. The pools were perfect temperature and clean. The beach was gorgeous and the resort provided chairs and umbrellas were wonderful. We went to the restaurant Meridia for one of our dinners and it was delicious! We were very pleased. From start to finish we were very impressed with this resort. Absolutely gorgeous! Exquisite views of the ocean throughout. Beach lovers, look no further! Longest stretch white sand + 1 of our favorites of all Hawaii.
Beach: Typically calm in am + active later ,not rough. Chairs w/ umbrellas fill early always available + at pools.
Pools: Both lovely + not busy. Plenty of towels.
Ikena Landing: Ala carte items tasty. Strawberry papaya amazing! Buffet not worth $48 price tag. Views + ambiance spectacular + service from all stellar!!! Miramar a complete joy + exemplary. Vannah a delight, informed of gluten-free options. Felipe fantastic, ultra professional. Sylvia, sweetheart + very kind. So appreciated everyone! Our last day, the host unfortunately extremely unprofessional + we opted to leave + order room service instead due to his poor behavior. Otherwise, truly enjoyed. Only recommendation, create more tasty gluten + dairy free options + inform guests. Upon request, Cavaii provided phenomenal care, arranged gf df blueberry pancakes, fantastic.
Meridia: Reviewed separately. View + ambiance gorgeous, food tasty, fees higher than value. Enjoyed Canoe House most + Brown's. Visit Meridia, more beautiful than Manta. Sandra, a standout!!
Napuka: Food good, not great, alike for room service. Overall, Westin can improve food options, not stellar.
Really enjoyed Copper Bar + live music at MK, Hau Tree like Napuka.
Reception: Kenji was the absolute HIGHLIGHT + highest customer care we experienced. What a gem!! Virgil, very kind. Margarite in management provided resolution to upsetting issue at Ikena our last day, gratitude for her service.
Cabana Pool Desk: The team at this desk needs a major overhaul. Only one tall gentleman was professional + reflected Westin brand. We booked a cabana 6 weeks in advance to be told we were out of luck by young girl who was dismissive, unprofessional, very snotty attitude, one can sense she simply doesn't care for the guests. KC, manager of Napuka is an absolute earth angel + swooped in to remediate the situation, she was definitely the strongest leadership + highest caliber of true care we encountered. Makena, cabana manager, initially quite snippy however, due to KC's involvement, quickly changed her tune but expressed displeasure a bit argumentatively to us relative to KC taking care of her team's mishap, which made us uncomfortable after several hours wity no resolution of our booking. Our 2nd cabana rental, Kyle delivered 3 drinks instead of 6 promised with the rental. When we requested promised coconut water he said there wasn't any although we knew the bar upstairs has it, he finally brought us 1 can, took our two juices + one pellegrino back in return. Hence, we received 2 drinks of promised 6. We mentioned not loving canned sugared juice but found it lacking tact he took them back with no replacement. We were so disappointed with the entire cabana team, we simply let it go. Westin 100% needs to rehire a new team.
Valet: Jayson an absolute pleasure + took exemplary care throughout our trip. Entire valet team very professional, welcoming + helpful.
Room: Premier ocean high floor view gorgeous! Bedding comfortable, beach bags, water bottle provided, great accompaniment, filtered water is available everywhere + so appreciated.
Constructive Feedback: Details needed relative to walking paths. We planned to walk the trail between Mauna Kea + told by employees not safe + a few guests ended up at hospital due to falls/jagged rock, only go if familiar. Hence, we walked golf path through neighborhoods. Thankful we found out but some guests may not ask + go. We are fit to handle, safety paramount, online doesn't relay a dangerous path, indicates it's easy.
We LOVED the Westin!!! Mostly everyone was so wonderful. Albeit guidance relative to cabana team matters we will recommend it to others + definitely return on our next visit to Big Island!
