We were thrilled with our stay at the Sofitel in Moorea. We were arriving on a private jet around noon, with a 3pm check in time. The hotel offers a romantic dinner on the beach and we asked if we could it a 1pm instead. They agreed, and had the most amazing Mother’s Day lunch. This is just one example of the exquisite service they offered. We booked the 180 degree horizon overwater villa and it was great and very private. The water was clear and there were plenty of fish rim front of the room. The resort is adjacent to a public beach, but sheltered enough so the beach area was private. This was our favorite stay in Frecnch Polynesia and we’ll be back for the whale migration so,e October soon.

Beautiful resort. The overwater bungalow stay was definitely a bucket list item for us. We were very impressed and it met all our expectations. We booked the luxury overwater one and loved how big it was. We saw so many colorful fish and stingrays under our bungalow. Loved the clear glass floor! It was clean and the service each day was wonderful. We also loved the breakfast every morning. Shout out to the fun omelette chef! He is great! The snorkeling was fantastic in this area as well. We even appreciated that we could use all the facilities after check out and they had a shower and changing room after enjoying our final day at the beach. We will most definitely be returning to the Sofitel.

I travel the world and understand tired hotels, this hotel is not just tired, it's completely neglected and the worst part of our trip. (See pictures) I'm not even talking about the staff not knowing CPR or having an AED close to the beach, which is horrible in it's own...

I travel the world and understand tired hotels, this hotel is not just tired, it's completely neglected and the worst part of our trip. (See pictures) I'm not even talking about the staff not knowing CPR or having an AED close to the beach, which is horrible in it's own right when someone is in cardiac arrest. Let's start with the trip to the room. The golf cart would sputter and stop and start all by itself, it broke down. Our friends had sent us a bottle of bubbly and the driver tried to take credit for it. He was disinterested in general. The beach front bungalow that we paid extra for was a complete wreck. The AC did not work and the room remained about 84 degrees the entire night. The Bathroom was about 20 degrees hotter than the room, and there's nothing like going to the bathroom and sweating in the middle of the night. The bedside table had separated into particleboard and gave me splinters. The blinds were completely trashed and the window locks were missing all together. The closets had bolts on top of them and ripped my wife's clothes. The shower had no shelves and the shampoos were on a stand outside of the shower, meaning you had to reach around for stuff. Taking a shower in a 90 degree bathroom is not refreshing anyways. The ceiling fan switch only worked on 2 settings, low and low, so it was no help. The beach was rocky and the water current on the beach was a bit strong for us. The beach bar looked like a homeless hut and it wasn't manned the 3 times we went up that day. That must explain the rusty barbed wire fence we had a view of from our bungalow. We went to the restaurant and stood there for 5 minutes, no one said a word. We sat down, and same thing, no one said a word for 10 minutes, so we went back to the smoldering hot room. When I called the front desk, there was no manager on duty. When I asked about the manager, they told me she didn't get in until 8:30 the next day, which turned out to be true. The best thing about this hotel is that I checked out early, and the manager (who was only available from home on the phone), said she should charge me for all of the nights I had booked, but would agree to let me leave without additional nights charges. I want you to understand that I paid over $700 US dollars for one night in the room and experience we had. If you are thinking of booking this property, look at my pictures. If the manager cared about 5 star experiences, and really felt sorry for our experience, she would refund us an apologize for what we endured. Not even an apology. If I could give negative stars I would. I am embarrassed for the people of French Polynesia to have this hotel here. Completely ruined 2 days of our trip.

We stayed in a superior overwater bungalow for two nights, and found it to be an exceptional experience. While the price makes this a splurge, the accommodations are certainly unique, and the waters surrounding the property are brutal clear and simply beautiful. The ability to enter the lagoon from your back deck to swim and snorkel is awesome, and every trip along the walkway to and from the bungalow brought a few of loads of beautiful fish. The glass view port on the bungalow floor almost always offered views of fish both day and night. The included breakfast buffet was excellent, and in general the food and bar services at the hotel were excellent. The hotel provided loaner snorkel equipment at no charge. The personnel at the property were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been for longer.

My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel in January 2025 and had an incredible stay. We stayed in one of the beach front bungalows. The room was wonderful with a king bed and large sliding glass doors that faced the beach. It also had a lovely private outdoor shower and tub. We booked the hotel because of the location on one of Moorea’s best snorkeling beaches and we were not disappointed. The snorkeling was amazing, and just steps from our bungalow. We loved the beach bar where Tama did an amazing job, and our evening was perfect at the main bar with an acoustic guitarist, and the wonderful service from Tatiana. Our stay at Sofitel was truly amazing from the beautiful view of the lagoon, and mountains, to the wonderful accommodations, and the friendly professional staff. I highly recommend this property.

My whole life, I only ever had one destination on my bucket list: Tahiti. When my mother died last year it really hit home that there’s no time like the present. When I started researching hotels, the two top destinations with over water bungalows were both on Mo’orea, and Sofitel was a little higher rated. The room was exactly what I wanted: great view, great location, great bed, great pillows, robes and slippers, and a lovely little deck over the perfect turquoise water. The infinity pool was wonderful, the staff was amazing, and the food was excellent— although wicked pricey. That’s the only thing I was unprepared for. We made it work by picking up some bread and cheese at the market to skip a few meals, but the $400 tasting menu at “K” was well out of our budget. The two activities we sprung for were the sunset lovers cruise which was delightful, and the 2-tank scuba dive on my birthday. The guide was fantastic, and although I’ve seen better reefs, the fish were abundant and I finally saw multiple rays! I got a last minute appointment at the spa to fix two of my nails and Lea was lovely and gave me the best recommendation for a tattoo artist that I was able to book for the following day.

I am so happy I found this place! If you have ever dreamed of staying in an over the water hut in the South Pacific, this is an amazing spot for that. There is just enough amenities and class without being snooty. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. The onsite pearl store had a wide variety of beautiful pieces for every budget, the shop is quite well stocked, the pool area is just the right size, and the food was delicious. The Ia Ora dive shop was perfect for a refresher dive with Aude. We saw the show and had the buffet one night and the breakfast (included in our room choice) was a huge buffet as well. Plus the drinks in our mini bar were included and restocked daily. We couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to come back, and I still have another day here!

The resort is fantastic. Everything is as you would expect it to be at an upscale resort in the South Pacific, yet somehow it is so unpretentious and the staff so kind and friendly. The entire island was in an unexpected power blackout on our arrival yet Kia Ora was one of the few places with a working generator and was 100% functioning. Yep, it’s expensive but such is life when you are a world away from stress and free shipping. Ha ha. I want to comment on the review someone placed a couple days ago rating the resort’s dive shop which I believe is next door and probably independently operated. Our opinion could not be more different. Did the reviewer really complain because salt water stings the eyes and somehow that is the operator’s fault????? We are fortunate to travel frequently and have seldom found places that are as well run, kind, and memorable as this resort and the associated dive shop. Thanks to all of you.

Booked a dive to the rays. Filled out the sheet asking how long it has been since I dove. Over a year, yes. Requirements are to take a refresher dive first before going out to the site. Told I need to take my mask off and put it back on and clear it. I’m a fresh water diver. Salt water burns the eyes ( discover this while snorting just the day before) asked if o could clear in the pool”no” in case it happens out there. So if I had lyes and said yes I dove 9 months ago( even in fresh water) I would not have to prove it but because I was honest I have to do this, no. Lesson learned as I’m sure many before know not to be truthful it does not help .

The Intercontinental was more luxurious and more recently renovated, but that luxury comes with formality and stiffness. Like the Intercontinental, the Sofitel offers overwater bungalows, several dining options, and extensive water and land excursions. It is a more relaxed place and the staff seemed genuinely friendly and interested in engaging guests in conversation. Snorkeling from the bungalows at Sofitel is far superior to the Intercontinental and the Sofitel also has a superior beach. The Sofitel snorkeling trip with underwater scooters was a highlight of our trip. The Sofitel offers opportunities to partake in activities in Moorea like an excellent dinner at Rudi’s while one is captive at the Intercontinental. The Sofitel offered live entertainment each night in the restaurant and two Polynesian shows a week while the Intercontinental offered only one Polynesian show a week. .And the Sofitel costs half as much as the Intercontinental!

After touring the Tahiti islands aboard the Windstar cruise, I stayed in an overwater bungalow at the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea. The suite was very spacious, extremely comfortable, and fully equipped with all the amenities to enjoy the stay to the fullest. The service was excellent overall, and it’s worth mentioning that much of the staff is trilingual (Tahitian, French, English). Compared to the rates of overwater bungalows at luxury hotels in Bora Bora, the Sofitel in Moorea offers better value for your money while boasting a beach just as beautiful as those in Bora Bora. Its beach club is very convenient, as it is the departure point for marine tours, and the staff there is extremely patient and friendly.

The whole resort was amazing and great views, no matter what direction you’re looking in ! The food was pretty good and as expected the seafood was super fresh. The only bad thing I could say is, when eating outside the birds can be a bit annoying lol

We have stayed here three times and every time, it is exceptional. Wonderful service and a beautiful property, especially the lagoon. We have stayed in a variety of rooms on the property and they are luxurious and well-kept. We can’t wait to come back!

Staying here for 3 nights were staying in a bungalow second row back you get amazing views even though its second row back the rooms are wonderful the staff does a good job on cleaning . The Breakfast buffet is excellent they have a chef who cooks pancakes and omelette to order. We did a private tour with Enjoy Moorea in a 4 x 4 its the best tour weve ever done and we travel a lot. Bring waterr shoes to go into the ocean its white sand with sharp bits of shell and coral. TV channels are mainly french one channel CNN who wants to watch news on vacation they have the ability to connect your phone to TV we were hopeful to do and get some netflix no it only works on Android phones.

Second time around, we stayed at the Sofitel, this year for 2 weeks. We had the most relaxing and perfect holiday again. From the morning with good coffee and a great breakfast buffet, it was always a good start with a Crepe. The chef there, is an icon and he can make a better day, of any day! We always had a talk to the lady in the garen, who was called Christine. The snorkelling is phenomenal. From Soft corals to large Tuna, you see everything. We snorkelled one hour in the morning and one in the afternoon, always on different spots. The food in the evening is just the best. I would recommend the parrot fish every day. A highlight was also seeing Tatiana, the manager of the bar again. 6 years ago, she was in the restaurant and presented me with a wonderfull flower headdress (without charge). The room we had was perfect as well, there would be minor reparations to be done, but it is really minimal. The resort also offered a trip to swim with the stingrays and shark. This was just the best. We even had the luck to see a whale with baby and some turtles. The knowledgeable guide explained us about the seashells and a lot about the island. We think of visiting again in July next year. We highly can recommend the Sofitel in Moorea. Go to get spoiled and return home really relaxed.

We were here for 5 days at the beginning of November. The place is amazing. We had an overwater bungalow. We had a nice welcome, but they don't distinguish between guests who are in the club and who are not. Of course, neither are the benefits. So the essence of Mariott bonvay club was lost to us. It wasn't until the first dinner that the waitress who served us explained it to us and brought us a voucher for a welcome cocktail. She said that we should have received this upon arrival. I don't know, somehow it doesn't work. There was also a problem with the beach towels. Many times they were not at the pool. The area is beautiful and quite extensive. Yes, some things deserve to be upgraded and modernized. Also, the air conditioner broke down in our bungalow, but we have to praise them for replacing it with a new one, and it was done quite quickly. However, this did not spoil our vacation. We fully enjoyed this beautiful world, both above and below water. The service and cleanliness was excellent. Food and drinks too. We experienced two wonderful gala evenings with a program and a lava grill ceremony. It was our first trip to French Polynesia and thanks to all of you at Kia Ora it was amazing. Just returned from 7 nights at the Sofitel. The OWB was spacious and had a day bed where we could put stuff. There were also chairs to sit in. The bathroom was generously sized, and I liked that it had fresh air as my snorkeling clothes dried overnight, unusual for the tropics. The bed was comfortable. Food was good, though they could use more variety in the breakfast buffet. It was the same all 7 days. Nice to sit outside and look at the beautiful beach. Best of all was the snorkeling. We stayed in the 100 area, and I jumped into the water and was surrounded by many fish and beautiful coral. I spent hours in the water every day. They gave us late departure which was great as we had a 11:45 p.m. flight home. Our massages were the best ever, then we showered and headed for the ferry. Rough ride back. Glad I took Bonine! We will return.

We booked this stay as part of an epic vacation to Tahiti. We were not disappointed. Yes it is pricey but we came prepared. The bungalows were very spacious. The food was great as well. Not the perfect white sand beach but with the reef right there it’s understandable why there is coral on the beach. If you like snorkeling it is definitely a must. The edge of the reef looks like about a mile away. Very calm and shallow inside the reef. Staff were great. Stop by the beach bar. The bartender, who I can’t remember his name…sorry, was quite entertaining. Can’t find a fault with Sofitel but understand it’s pricey for a reason.

We ordered the swordfish and it took an hour to arrive and was so tough , we didn’t eat it. I had a facial where my face was rubbed so hard , I had a black eye . Fan and AC did not work.

While we stayed at a nice beach in the Moorea Sunset Beach, we both agreed that we did miss the sunbeds/loungers there and decided that we are OK to pay to have them while on the beach (I am surprised this is not a common practice to rent them out just like that around FP like it is in Caribbeans), and also I would lie if I said the views from the Toatea Lookout didn't sell us on this Day Pass either :) For about $162 USD total for 2 people we had access to the Temae beach, which is of course a free public beach (reviewed separately) but with plenty of shade, beach loungers/chairs/hammocks/swings, 2 course lunch (full access to their menu, not limited like we had experienced in Bora Bora at Thalasso) at their PURE restaurant (reviewed separately, excellent experience!!! and value!!!) with big cold sparkling water and espresso machine coffee, towels, snorkeling gear, and no limitation to the area where we can hang around and explore - and this is a beautiful beachfront property with gardens, decks etc. so it's a definitely a big plus of that (once again a big plus vs. Thalasso in Bora Bora where we were alienated to a small stretch on the beach...). The only negative... the drinks for about $25 USD at the beach bar... that could be a bit more "accessible" I would say :) It was an amazing experience and outstanding value - for someone who didn't care to stay here as it's more of a honey moon nest for couples and you are a bit separated from the rest of the world living in a bubble, which is of course a great selling point for a dream vacation for that type of couples, I loved the ability to fully experience this place as a Day Spa and would highly recommend it to everyone, put your reservations aside and give it a shot, I think you will love it, especially if you appreciate good snorkeling as it was excellent in this side of Tamae beach, and that meal at PURE was a star for sure as well.

We stayed in a luxury over the water bungalow. Much to our surprise, the unit was very dated. I almos fell through the deck due to a rotting board. They block the air conditioning to 25 degrees Celsius. The food at PURE is not to par for this type of property. The Mahi Mahi was under cooked and like slimey rubber. The burgers were also under cooked. My wife had a diamond necklace and earrings stolen out of her bag the first room service we had. Luckily it was fake diamonds, but doubt the thief knew that. The location is great and surrounding scenery is gorgeous. The property is just not what you expect for the price.
