Mango Bay

Where do I start? We were recommended to stay here. We weren’t disappointed from the moment we arrived until the day we left we were treated as returning guests, this was our first visit. Every member of staff from management down were brilliant. We booked a sea view room, we were in room 211 it doesn’t get better. The only downside was as an older couple the sea shelf made it difficult to leave the ocean. We made up by using the pool. We never once had a problem getting a beach or pool bed. Yes the hotel is old but clean, air con top class and a hot water shower. Book your lunch and dinner at breakfast and remember gents you need a collar on your shirt but tailored shorts are acceptable. The food is mostly great I’m a fussy one but always found something acceptable. This hotel was so good we’ve booked again for October and can’t wait. Entertainment was good mostly but you are sitting on a beach front hotel what more do you want. We went on a boat trip organised by a guy on the beach again top class. I did a scuba lesson in the pool, I’m hooked and the diving staff were great, give it a go. If I marked this hotel out of 10 it would run to 9.8. If you want to stay in Barbados give Mango Bay a shot I would bet you won’t be disappointed. See you again 12 October

We stayed here for one week. The hotel itself is nice enough. The room was clean however quite dated. Lots of brown decor. The entertainment could be improved such as more interactive guest activities. Some of the staff were quite miserable looking. One person in particular constantly looked annoyed, and there was no positive interaction. I took my son down for breakfast 30 mins before it stopped and she was clearly annoyed about this. I asked for tea, and was given coffee so I politely mentioned this. She said abruptly “you asked for coffee” (I don’t like coffee so why would I ask for it) I wasn’t going to argue over it. That made me feel really uncomfortable having breakfast, so i promptly left. MOST of the staff were nice. I have to give a shout out to Maria who was always lovely and so thoughtful. Also a guy called Xavier. Lovely guy! Our son has autism and most of the staff were very good with him. Bar staff weren’t very sociable and appeared miserable most of the time. The beach was amazing however the activities weren’t well advertised. We enjoyed the food.

Lovely hotel, but sadly the food has gone down majorly. Too many poor standard buffets. Also, by bringing in guests from Island Inn and The Sands because of the problems at both of these hotels!!, impacted our stay with not enough food for lunch on many occasions. We were due to return in September but have now transferred our booking to another hotel on the West Coast. Such a shame because this hotel used to be wonderful but by reducing the quality of the food will reduce the returning guests eventually.

This is a nice hotel. The service from the management and restaurant and chefs is very much four star maybe more. The housekeeping and standard rooms are 3 star at most. The location and size of the hotel are lovely. Couldn’t fault it. The beach is amazing and the hotel is such a lovely size. Nothing was too much trouble for the management team. Evey question answered and they could not have been better. The standard rooms are the cheapest and are huge with great AC but they are tired and the bathrooms are very run down. The housekeeping was also hit and miss with many days missing towels and floor not cleaned of sand. But they have over rooms. So they are much better The restaurant is lovely. Both inside and outside seating the it’s all served at a lovely pace. The servers are sweet and funny but not silver service. They will accommodate your requests which is nice and the food was very very high standard. Three choices a day for lunch and dinner. The bar staff work hard. Some are a little less chirpy than others but they will make any drink you ask. The water sports team don’t stop working. From putting out subbed when the hoggers have taken the. All to teaching you to water ski for free. Really nice guys. A lovely touch is the afternoon tea served each day. They did run out of a few things like pizza and some ice creams and of course towels!! But not then end of the world. We had. Birthday when we was there and what they did was magical. They printed little menus for our table that were personalised. Gace us a lovely bottle of champagne and even supplied an amazing birthday cake. They decorated the bedroom too. Really made us smile. So yea I would go back but I would stay in a standard room. Thanks for a lovely week

Fabulous little boutique hotel in a great location in Holetown set on a beautiful beach with many restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance. All staff so friendly and welcoming, couldn’t do enough for us. Great beach front room which was the icing on the cake. Big shout out to Shanize at Reception, Tionne, Julian, Ronald and Anderson, excellent service all round thank you, we will be back….

Love love love this place. The staff were fabulous respected our request for a low room for my husband. Staff were amazing especially Damien (socks) who is non stop all day! Pool not needed and wasn’t that grand but as I say it doesn’t matter as you are situated straight in the beautiful beach. There is building going on next door but didn’t cause any issues. I hope to return again one day

Impeccable staff, who are welcoming warm and ooze a love for hospitality and their customers. Too many to name as they’re all fantastic!!! The hotel is on the older side, but unlike the negative comments below, let’s call it traditional, loved and lived in! It’s also immaculately clean and cool. The location is truly fabulous, walking distance to bars, restaurants ( from beach shacks to 5 star cuisine) The beautiful beach is kept well, with comfortable sun loungers - all with parasols and the buoys keep you safe in the water if you just want to swim. The drinks are all labelled top shelf brands, the cocktails are not drowned in sugar syrup, and are mixed whilst you wait. The food is great - à la carte dining (so make sure you pack collared tops for men, as this is the rule in low season. High season, is long short/trousers) We left leaving a bit of our hearts behind…ignore the critics, just go, you’ll love it ❤️

First time to Barbados and won’t be the last. I would go back to mango bay in a heatbeat. The staff are amazing and a special shout out to Maxine, Xavier, Dale, Anderson, Julian, Kevin, Ronald(the man for all things to know and fun) and in fairness all the staff work so hard to make everything there work. Hats off to them! Honestly rate them all so highly. Head chef, that man does some amazing food à la carte nights do not disappoint. The ladies and gents that get pulled in for the evening entertainment circuit are great. It’s just generally a great place to unwind, drink, eat and on a Sunday night party! See you guys soon!

The fact that this hotel only has 67 rooms is very much part of its charm. From the day of arrival to the day of departure, all of the staff were friendly and we felt very relaxed. We had a superior room on the ground floor with an undercover terrace. The room was spacious with ample hanging space and drawers, and a lovely shower room. It was cleaned every day and even if you had a siesta, the bed (which was very comfortable) was made up again before you returned to your room in the evening. Little extras such as a hairdryer and a torch were also provided. The dining room consisted of two parts - open air or inside; the food was either buffet or a la carte and whilst the menu was not extensive there was enough choice, usually a fish dish, meat and vegetarian (both traditional food and the usual western fayre was available and not a chip in sight). At lunch time you could also order from a small snack menu which included fries. Branded drinks, if you wanted them, were part of the all-inclusive package. The pool was cleaned every day and whilst not large it was big enough in relation to the size of hotel, and the beautiful white sand and clear Caribbean sea was only a few yards away. There were also plenty of loungers around the pool, in front of the hotel overlooking the sea, or on the beach itself. There are activities throughout the day (such as quizzes and rum tasting) and evening entertainment outside each night (usually solo artists or duets). Mango Bay is close to both First and Second Street where there are a lot of bars, restaurants and clubs. Other reviews had commented on the music and noise from these premises but to be honest we were not bothered by it at all, not even on a Friday or Saturday night. A lot of the guests were repeaters, some had been staying there for 25 - 30 years, and it's easy to see why they return year after year. If you want a big blingy hotel with over the top luxury, then this is not for you, but if you want a charming traditional Bajan hotel with great staff then that's what you'll get.

It’s been 18 years since we last visited Barbados. We used to stay further north near Speightstown and usually visited Holetown during our stay. During our recent visit, we noticed a big difference in the town, so much more developed than we remember. However, Mango Bay is a hidden gem. Lovely relaxing hotel set on a beautiful beach. We enjoyed the beach walks and snorkelling. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Overall the food is good, after 11 nights, maybe a bit repetitive. We had a deluxe room on 4th floor overlooking the lovely pool area. No problem with noise as hotel entertainment generally stopped at 10.30pm. Good variety of evening entertainment. Our only criticism (and it wasn’t a deal breaker) is that we like to sit on the beach late as it cools down, and the staff started to clear away the beds and umbrellas around 4pm each day. Also the large Royalton Hotel next door, which is due to open pretty soon. Such a shame that was allowed to be built and not in keeping with the Caribbean style low rise hotels on this coastline. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip back to Barbados, and many thanks to Mango Bay for making it so enjoyable.

I recently visited Barbados in May 2026, and my driver, Tre Dottin, made my trip to Barbados absolutely stress-free and enjoyable. From the moment I was picked up, he was very professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the island. He arrived on time every day, kept the vehicle spotless and comfortable, and shared great recommendations for local beaches, restaurants, and attractions. What stood out most was how safe and relaxed I felt during every ride. Tre, the driver, was patient, courteous, and went above and beyond to make sure I had a wonderful experience. We recently stayed at Mango Bay in Barbados for a family holiday in March and we absolutely loved it. The resort is beautiful, with well-appointed rooms that have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The pool and beach areas are both fantastic, making it easy to relax and enjoy the surroundings. What really made our trip special was the incredible staff. We were travelling with a toddler and everyone was so kind, warm, and accommodating. It made a huge difference to our experience. A special mention goes to the restaurant team who made every meal a pleasure: Daniele, Maria, Faith, Kevin, and Rhianna. Damian, the barman, was fun, friendly, and always added great energy to our stay. Overall, it is a wonderful place for a family getaway and would eagerly return

This is a really tough review to write - should I have given it 5 stars, maybe but there are just a few things that it's missing. The hotel is getting tired. I know that's the Barbados charm but it does need some money spending on it. I can understand the owners are probably going to see how the opening of the new Royalton next door affects them but they need to lift their game a little to keep people coming back. The hotel's entrance is lovely - it gives you a feeling of luxury and welcoming and makes you glad you chose Mango Bay. The rooms however are a different story. Ours was tired, the cupboards didn't close properly, the bathroom was quite damp and it generally needed some TLC. We stayed from a Wednesday for 6 nights. We were in the block overlooking 1st street and when we arrived the couple in the room next door to us asked us if we had ear plugs. We looked quizzically at them and then they explained that 1st street gets quite lively Fri/Sat/Sun nights - and oh does it. Some nights we felt as though the bar goers were in our room :) We managed to acquire some melatonin from Massy supermarket which helped with the sleeping. The hotel pool is a nice change from the sea - and maintains the sunshine right until sunset. The beach is lovely and couldn't be easier to get to from the hotel as it's literally in front. Beach and pool loungers are reserved early by people so beware - if you're one of those that likes to chill out and not worry about getting a lounger early you're going to be upset by the towel laying crowd. I don't know why people do it - it's sad really. There were even couples reserving beds at the pool and the beach and alternating their day between the two! Hotel maybe needs to introduce a policy to curb that behavior. We found the food perfectly adequate. Very little variety though if it was a buffet but the occasional a la carte meals were fine. There was one evening that the buffet was 'Mexican' style - which we were quite excited about as we love Mexican food - but it turned out to be the same salad and meat offerings as all of the other buffets we'd eaten at the hotel with the addition of flavoured rice (the Mexican twist). Drinks were prepared with great attention to detail - the bar staff actually knew how to mix cocktails rather than pouring it from a pre-mix bottle. The watersports were all free, ranging from waterskiing to kayaking, to small catamarans. The watersports staff however seemed very unenthralled with their jobs and quite often aloof in their interactions with us. The hotel did lay on entertainment every evening which was nice and the restaurant and bar staff worked really hard to cater for the guests needs. A nice touch to the hotel was a free 2 hour catamaran trip up the coast.

We have stayed many times at Mango Bay, but this may be our last visit. This is not the fault of Mango Bay Hotel, but exterior factors. First the beach has altered. When we first went to Mango Bay, you descended steps to the beach, but because of tides and storms, the beach is now level with the board walk. This means the beach is smaller and you have a very steep descent into the sea and some people may struggle getting out of the sea back onto the sand. Secondly, the new Royalton hotel being built next door. This new hotel is massive. Think of the big hotels you find on the Spanish Costas and then double it. This small bay is already becoming crowded, so where are they going to put all the sun beds? It is a large brutalist building completely out of character with Mango Bay Hotel and the neighbouring Sandpiper. The rooms at Mango Bay are still dated but some have been given a “facelift”. My attitude is, I do not come on holiday to live in my room! Providing the beds are comfortable and they are, and the bathroom has plenty of hot water and it does, and the house keeping is good and it is, then that’s OK for me. My only criticism of the room is that it needs more power points rather than an extension inside the wardrobe. The dining is good, but could have been better. This criticism is based on what seemed to be a staff problem in the kitchen on some nights, so service was sometimes slow and haphazard with some a la carte nights becoming buffet nights. But the quality of the food is good. The highlight of the hotel is its staff. They are always very helpful, very friendly, always wanting to share a joke. They want you to enjoy your holiday. As I said, maybe our last time here. But we are considering one of the other hotels in the Mango Bay group. If the other Mango Bay group hotels run on the same ethos, I’m sure we will have a great time.
