Had an amazing stay at Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort -- The property layout is amazing -- rooms are huge with super comfy beds and with great water views -- the beach is amazing and is one of the nicest on St Croix.. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. Food was great at the restaurants and service very friendly. This resort could be a five star if they just focused on some of the little things -- examples - no water tanks in gym water bubblers / no towels at pool ( you need to go to registration ) / leaky faucet in room with some other wear and tear / rinse stations by beach don't work / some of the landscaping is overgrown / etc... --- But overall if you overlook the little things this place cant be beat! The silver lining is you can get this amazing resort at incredibly reasonable rates -- If the resort was on top of every little detail I am sure the price would be triple.

We stayed at the Carambola beach resort Feb 21 - 28, 2025. We were a bit nervous based on some of the reviews but having stayed there, I am baffled by some of the negative reviews. Our experience was wonderful. The resort is more remote and we liked that. We had a rental car which was beneficial. Parts of the road to the resort are windy and a little rough but certainly manageable. The beach is beautiful and it was never very crowded. There were plenty of chairs, umbrellas, and several spots with shade from palm trees. We enjoyed our evening strolls on the beach to watch the dramatic sunsets. The pool and pool area were great too. Check in was simple. They had a cart and driver meet us at our car to take us and our luggage to our room. Our room was beach front in building 14 on the second floor with cathedral ceilings. Our views were spectacular. There were multiple windows and doors to open which allowed for great breezes. The air conditioning also worked very well as needed. The room was spacious with lots of storage. We had good wifi. The TV channels were limited but we were also able to hook up our own Roku so we had plenty of options but mostly we spent time outside and on the porch. The mini fridge provided was a great size. We stocked up on milk, drinks, and snacks at The Market on our way from the airport and had plenty of room in the fridge. We dined at the resort twice for dinner and each morning for breakfast. Breakfast was included due to our Marriott status. The buffet included eggs and omelettes made to order as well as everything else you would expect in a modest buffet. Sitting out on the patio offered great views and lovely breezes. The staff were warm and welcoming each morning. We had dinner one night at the Flamboyant Lounge by the pool. Our drinks were great and came quickly. Our entrées took a longer time and were adequate. Our server was pleasant and attentive. We ate at the Saman Restaurant one night as well. The food came faster and our server was friendly. We didn't find the experiences any different from other places we ate on the Island including delays in getting our food or prices (it is on "island time" and most things have to be imported adding to costs). We explored the grounds, taking in different views from different spots. The grounds were lovely with lots of flowering plants and butterflies. We experienced a couple of strong rain storms and there were low spots where water would temporarily pool but it is a tropical island. We were also treated to a beautiful rainbow following one rain storm. We loved our porch which offered shade and padded benches so we could spend hours relaxing while watching and listening to the ocean. Our room was serviced regularly which included emptying the trash every time and refreshing the towels one of the days. Beach towels were available at the front desk. Again, the Carambola Beach Resort was wonderful and we would gladly stay there again.

We stayed at Carambola Beach Resort Feb 1 to Feb 5 2025. I almost cancelled our reservation due to the terrible reviews. That would have been a mistake. The beach is stunning with views and beautiful clear ocean (not rocky). Our room (85) was recently renovated and was perfect (partial ocean view). I do not know what people are complaining about in other reviews. The staff were friendly and attentive. The pool bar and dinner (at Saman) at the hotel restaurant was fantastic. Yes there are minor issues with maintaining such a large property but there were staff working hard everyday. The grounds are beautiful. We are looking forward to returning. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Carambola.

The restaurant was very good and variety, the swimming pool so pretty with the palms and the gazebo. The room was very clean and the view was nice, we like how the chairs in the beach was organize. The good things are the view is beautiful. The dining staff and bar staff where as accommodating as the amenities would allow. They worked extremely hard to satisfy the customers. If you want a remote island getaway with hiking and biking, then this may be the place for you. That said, it did not have much to offer in its amenities. It only had a functioning bar and grill and restaurant. Food was on the quality of a big chain fastfoodfor bar & grill and a quick dining for the restaurant; however, nothing was fast or quick, and cost was 2 to 3x what you’d expect to pay for the quality. Also, not the most accessible property for those with physical limitaions. Also, rooms did noy have phones to call for service at the front desk, no concierge staff for any good recommendations from the front desk staff. And the customer service of the front desk was limited to one or two employees being helpful but rarely friendly . Most of the other front desk staff made you feel like it was a chore to help you or that they were doing you a favor. Finally, it was a very remote location. The remoteness is a chosen preference. It is about a 25 min taxi ride on narrow, curving, hilly roads with pot holes to get to Christiansen, the down town area. It was shocking to learn this is a Marriott property. I expected better from the brand.

I'm a Marriott Titanium and stay over 75 nights per year at their hotels and resorts. Without exception I am greeted pleasantly and recognized for my loyalty. Not here. I was abruptly told by the young receptionist to put my bags in the corner and wait until 4. Never cracking a smile she reluctantly agreed to take my information and credit card info. The bar had 2 beers...bud light and corona light. The bartender couldn't say when he would anything else. No wait staff ever did take our food order so I worked with the bartender. All this in the first hour and a half. I can't wait to see what happens over the next 5 days.

The setting of the Carambola Beach Resort is astoundingly beautiful. The grounds and walking paths, as well as the landscaping, were lovely. We have been to many a lovely beach resort, and this setting was one of the best we've ever seen. We had a beachfront king suite with a beautiful view. The bed was superb, while the couch and patio furniture were a little run down and uncomfortable. The room had a spacious mini fridge. The storage space was excellent. The restaurants were the main disappointment. The first night we we were there, we ordered from the poolside grill. Better than average pool side choices, but the service was TERRIBLE. Friendly - but completely untrained. We waited 45 minutes for a glass of wine, and the burger came at an hour wait, cold. Good flavor - but truly not warm at all. There were 3 tables in use at that time. We had the same experience the next day. The fancier of the two restaurants, Saman, offered a nice menu, but the reviews were so poor we did not venture in after our poolside grill experience. Luckily, we discovered The Landing, five minutes away with GREAT FOOD and service with ocean view. We also discovered AMA as a great place to eat but you would need to make reservations in advance. Great food, service, and view. There are not a lot of restaurants in right nearby - so I harp on this to give a heads up to others! While the room was clean upon arrival, the cleaning of the room on alternate days was lacking. They might take the used towels, but forget to leave fresh ones. Coffee replenishment in the rooms was spotty - especially if you requested decaf. Even though we left our shoes at the door, there was still sand throughout the room that was not swept. There were things around the property that also negated our usual Marriott experience such as loose pavers around the pool. We would probably return, but hope the restaurant staff training could be remedied.

Nicholas was the best wait staff we had during our visit. She was an incredible server and very accommodating to our special anniversary expectations. She was great. The best at Carambola!!! The food was great but the best was Miss Nicholas!!!!!

This place is beautiful and has so much potential but is poorly managed, maintained and staffed. Most staff said they were new. Most were very rude. Called the week before our stay and told the pool would be newly refurbished and open during our stay. Pool never opened and looked to have at least another week before it would be done. Food in both restaurants was sub-par. Shrimp cooked to the consistency of bubble gum. Staff that never refilled drinks. Requests for water to our room that never came. Asked for more coffee supplies and told to get it ourselves from the cabinet in the lobby. Ended our stay there early. Not worth what the rate is. Very disappointed when it is a Marriott property.

What a dump. Never, ever stay here. Where do I begin? Our toilet needed cleaning, the wifi was slow and spotty, the food was horrible, they are understaffed, the only choice for breakfast was a horrible buffet for $32 per person, the pool was closed for repairs, the AC wasn't able to cool our room so I barely slept at night. Sleep in your car if you have to rather than stay here. Marriott should pull their franchise.
