Viceroy Riviera Maya, a Luxury Villa Resort - Adults Only

Looks like Viceroy has planned renovations, and we hope the resort keeps the intimate, rustic beach vibe and extraordinary staff that it currently has. We’d love to visit again if it keeps its charm. Our butler, Paulina, ensured a smooth stay at the resort and even coordinated an anniversary celebration on a planned excursion. Her availability on WhatsApp made it easy to communicate and ensure all our needs were met. Paulina is an MVP at the resort, and her service is consistent with the Viceroy brand. Visit the spa! The Yaakun Couples Retreat was supremely relaxing. Verenice and Rosa are experts and used high quality products that left my skin feeling supple for days. They used a massage technique that is both delicate and deep to work out all the kinks. The chocolate covered strawberries and champagne gifts were notably delicious. The beach area is small but sufficient for our needs, especially with the hammock and private pool in the room. All the pool and beach staff tirelessly attend to guests. Juan seems to know just when you need clean sunglasses, a cool towel or an umbrella adjustment. Pepe is a gem and ensures you have a cold a drink and warm snack all day. Pepe does the work of four people and always with a smile. At La Marea, I liked the Black Risotto; at Coral, I miss the yogurt with berries and granola breakfast, for lunch and dinner anything catch of the day was tasty, and we liked many of the items on the Wednesday Mexican dinner menu. Francisco, Humberto and both restaurant teams are knowledgeable of the menu and can offer helpful guidance. Housekeeping was thorough and kept our room feeling fresh. The Premium Villa layout allows you to keep the bedroom cool. The bathroom and closet were quite spacious, and outdoor shower was perfect after the pool. There isn’t much to do at the resort but relax, and that was perfect for us. The location allowed for easy day trips to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Paulina and the staff helped with car service and off site needs. Overall an extremely comfortable and relaxing stay with an attentive and professional staff.

My wife and I recently spent six days at the Viceroy Riviera Maya in Mexico, and it was one of the best vacation experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything was first-class: the people, the food, the accommodations, and the overall atmosphere. The main restaurant, La Marea, located upstairs, by the pool, was exceptional. Chef Alejandro Salgado has created a perfect blend of Mexican-inspired dishes and other creative culinary favorites that look as good as they taste. Every meal, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, was outstanding. The service team was equally impressive. Jose (supervisor), Fernando, Carlos, Luis, Joshua, and Rodrigo were all friendly, professional, and seemed to anticipate what we wanted before we even asked. Every request was handled with a smile and genuine hospitality. The Coral Grill, the beach and poolside restaurant, was another favorite spot. We ate several meals there and enjoyed them all. The menu had a great variety, the portions were just right, and the view couldn’t be better. Sitting there with the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves really completed the experience. The front desk staff, Ernesto, Paola, and Jonathan (Manager), were always helpful, courteous, and quick to assist with anything we needed. Caesar at the valet was fantastic as well; he was always ready to help with transportation, offer advice, or just greet us with a friendly smile. The pool and beach areas were spotless, perfectly maintained, and tropical. The main pool is a great size and sits close to the beach bar, making it easy to go from swimming to relaxing with a drink in hand, plus the staff was always ready to serve a drink. The beach itself was beautiful, with plenty of space, comfortable loungers, and shaded beds for relaxing. The staff around the pool and beach were attentive and made sure everyone was comfortable. The entire property was immaculate. It’s clear the staff takes great pride in keeping everything in top shape, from the gardens to the walkways to the common areas. No matter the time of day, you could always see someone quietly working to make sure everything looked perfect. Our villa was incredible. The private pool was the ideal temperature, and the deck with two lounge chairs was a great place to unwind. Inside, the room was spacious, stylish, and very comfortable. It had high ceilings, a fully stocked mini-bar, excellent air conditioning, and all the hookups for our electronics. The bathroom was large and well-designed, with two sinks, a separate toilet area, a bathtub, and both an indoor and outdoor shower, the outdoor one being completely private and really refreshing. There was more than enough closet space and everything we needed to settle in comfortably. We didn’t get a chance to try the spa, painting area, or outdoor sauna, but we definitely plan to next time. Overall, our stay at the Viceroy Riviera Maya was everything we hoped for and more. The staff went above and beyond in every way, the food was incredible, and the property itself is stunning. It’s rare to find a place that combines luxury, comfort, and genuine hospitality so perfectly. We left feeling completely relaxed and already talking about when we can come back. Five stars all around, highly recommend!

Wow!. Just got back from an amazing stay at this property. We loved our viceroy villa. The food at La Marea was excellent. We also enjoyed breakfast and lunch at the Coral Restaurant. The staff is probably the best part of this resort. Everyone is so kind and genuine. Our room was beautiful and the housekeeping staff kept it pristine. We also enjoyed massages at the lovely spa. We will definitely be back again and again.

We chose Viceroy Riviera Maya expecting a peaceful, high-end escape — and in some ways, the resort delivers. The property is undeniably beautiful, lush, and very private. Our villa itself felt secluded and thoughtfully designed, which initially gave us high hopes for a relaxing stay. First, the ocean directly in front of the resort is not truly swimmable. To comfortably enter the water, you must walk further down the beach beyond the property. This may not matter to everyone, but for a beachfront luxury resort charging premium rates, it is an important detail that prospective guests should know in advance. The far bigger problem, however, is noise. The resort sits immediately next to a much lower-quality neighboring establishment that hosts nightly DJ parties. The music is not background noise — it is loud enough to shake the walls inside the villa and continues until approximately 11:00 PM. Instead of the tranquil jungle atmosphere advertised, we found ourselves lying awake staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. The front desk staff acknowledged that this is a known and ongoing issue but explained that local regulations in Playa del Carmen allow these parties and that the resort has little control over the situation. While we appreciate their honesty, this reality fundamentally conflicts with what many guests expect when paying luxury-resort prices. And that brings us to value. Expectations are understandably high. Yet many services feel aggressively overpriced even by luxury standards: yoga classes cost about $34 per session, two mimosas at $30, and a small 375 ml bottle of mid-range champagne was priced at over $200 USD. Combined with the nightly noise disruption, the overall experience feels misaligned with the premium positioning. This resort may appeal to travelers seeking aesthetics and privacy during the daytime, but discerning guests — particularly couples over 40 looking for rest, quiet, and restorative sleep — should carefully reconsider. The surrounding nightlife environment of Playa del Carmen can significantly impact what is marketed as a serene luxury retreat. In summary: the service was impeccable, beautiful property, private villas, but compromised by unswimmable beachfront conditions, persistent neighboring party noise, and a little bit of nickle & diming. We wish we had known these realities before booking.

Beautiful jungle beach resort with the most amazing villas and staff!! The jungle and the beach is the best combo where you feel secluded but still part of the resort. Villas that are perfectly spaced around the property with beautiful winding walk ways that are lined with lush trees, small peaceful waterfalls and have the jungle feel. The villas are BEAUTIFUL! Your own very private patio area with a plunge pool, plenty of outdoor seating and hammock all to yourself and a separate spectacular outdoor shower area that is so tranquil and private that is just outside of the indoor bathroom area. The room had wonderful AC and very spacious, big beautiful floor to ceiling windows viewing into the private back patio area, walk in closet with plenty of space for all your luggage and an indoor bathroom that was huge and beautiful. This is our top room that we have ever stayed at in all of our travels. Now for the staff, you are welcome when you 1st get there to go over your planed stay, any of your activities that you may have planned, enjoy a welcome drink and cold towels, have a walk around and introduction of the property. The staff are always available ensuring your trip is top notch and provide you with everything you may need, they really are a huge part of why this trip was so amazing! They are always smiling and very welcoming, making you feel like you are their very super special guest! We felt like we were waited on hand and foot from them and made us feel like we were royalty there! From always greeting us with a smile, asking if we need anything or can do anything to make our stay better, to laying out towels on the incredibly comfy lounge chairs at the pool/beach side and arranging umbrellas at the pool, bringing your drinks and food whenever and wherever you need, offering cool towels, small snacks, and know your name. They were beyond amazing. FYI the staff to guest ratio is perfect!!! The pool and beach area are breath taking! The pool is the perfect size for the amount of people, with plenty of spaced out places to lounge and sunbath on super comfortable loungers. Lots of loungers around the pool patio area and in the sand on the beach, even hammock beds to relax on. The sand is clean and soft. Some seagrass from the ocean but the team cleans that up multiple times a day as needed. Even on super windy days, laying out at the pool/beach side is still very enjoyable. The sun is HOT here and ensure to be careful about sunburn, if that’s applies to you. For food - there are 2 main restaurants on property, also a room service menu and lunch and dinner menus. You can order food from any of the menus at any time at any location on property or at any of the restaurant. The food options were great and all food was AMAZING! We are not huge foodies but do enjoy eating and really enjoyed all of it. The food was always fresh, perfectly cooked and lots of flavors. Our favorites were the flank steak tacos and steak fajitas for the main meals and for breakfast the breakfast burritos, French toast and sunrise juice and the churros!!! They do take all allergies and diet restrictions very seriously if that does apply to you. All restaurants are open air outdoor eating but you can also eat anywhere on property as well, including in your villa. Because of the small size of the resort, we never had to wait to eat or make reservations. Very causal dress setting as well or you could dress up too. Some additional - provide water shoes and Snorkle gear - Gym - Good size and option of equipment (treadmill, elliptical, free weights, benches, and a separate weight machine) - Provides cold water, towels and cool towels - AC unit and floor to ceiling windows that has a very pretty view of the jungle setting - Staff - Always available no matter where you are - Always checking in on you (in a good way) - Always very pleasant - Staff to guest ratio is great! - Pool side - Staff lay out your towels - Offer to clean your sunglasses - Walk around to give out free treats and cold hand towels - Ocean - Warm - Has “big rock barriers” a bit out for the ocean to create a “pool” like area when the water is calm - Food - Order food from any menu no matter where you are during anytime of restaurants are open - Mango nipek salsa and habanero hot sauce are amazing and go well on everything - Steak Fajitias and flank steak tacos are the best! - Misc items - Has bug spray - Has sun hats - Provides amazing soap, shampoo and other bath items - Water shoes and snorkel available each day for use - Everything is included in the price of your stay

Our experience at Viceroy Riveria Maya was first class in every way. From enjoying an excellent villa that provided peacefulness and natural beauty, an awesome outdoor shower, and a hammock for two to an exceptionally friendly and professional staff that took great care of us, I could not recommend the Viceroy enough. It is a unique experience compared to the typical resort environment. We are coming back and bringing family! And the food is first class as well!

The Viceroy is a very special place, and you feel from the minute you arrive that the staff will do everything to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The location and amenities are second to none. It was incredibly easy to relax into the relaxed, beautiful atmosphere and leave reality behind. A place to go back to, again and again!

"Spectacular" is the only way to describe this jungle retreat. This hidden gem in Playa del Carmen may not be on the radar of many travelers, but it is truly a treat. Honestly, I almost hesitate to share this review because I want to keep it a secret! This was our third visit, and even though it had been two years since our last stay, the staff made us feel as if we had only been gone a month. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and receive such warm welcomes. While vacations are meant to be relaxing, this resort instantly transports you into a completely stress-free zone. The jungle walkways to the villas, the stunning restaurant views, and the sound of the waves create the perfect atmosphere. The service is what truly sets this place apart; it is attentive without being intrusive. Whether poolside, at the restaurants, or in-suite, you are treated as if you are the only guest at the resort. All the meals are delicious, though we have a special fondness for breakfast given the fresh offerings and ocean views. The staff is also very flexible, offering various menu options and fun theme nights like the Street Food night. While we missed the Steak and Italian nights from our previous visit, we appreciated the thoughtful accommodations made for my husband, including stocking his favorite non-alcoholic beer and preparing delicious mocktails. I wish I could name everyone who made our stay so special, but the list would be far too long. To Carlos, Vicente, Victor, Oscar, Luis, Pepe, Willy, Juan, and Fernando: you are all awesome, and we cannot thank you enough for your amazing service. We already can't wait to return. This is not only our favorite spot for a Mexican vacation but a favorite because of the incredible people who make it so special for the guests.

The Viceroy Riviera Maya is the perfect place to stay between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Its staff is very professional and always making sure you have what you need, whether that be a fresh drink or even making sure your glasses are sparkling clean. The atmosphere and rooms are lush and very private. We enjoyed getting up in the morning and taking a walk on the beach, followed by a delicious breakfast that was included. While it seems that most guests enjoy relaxing at the pool or beach, we really enjoyed taking a few private tours that the concierge can arrange. One of our favorite days was spending the late morning snorkeling at the Viceroy's private cenote. The Viceroy is a very quiet hotel during the day. However, there is music that can be heard from the neighboring hotel during the evening. It was never a problem, but I felt it should be mentioned. When we return to the Maya Riviera, we would definitely head back to the Viceroy.

The service is actually the BEST of any resort I have visited, and I have fortunately been able to go to some great places. This place is over the top! It is an extraordinarily beautiful property, very natural (if that is what you like) The resort only has 41 rooms which makes it feel very personal. The staff knows your name immediately. We had an amazing lobster dinner on our villa patio served by Carlos the sommelier for Viceroy after mentioning we would miss 'lobster for dinner' I told our butler Alberto one story and his quick wit and personal attention will be a memory I will have for life. Alberto was the heart of the resort. Luis our beach attendant and Jose took care of us each day with impeccable service. They knew what we wanted and were there anytime it even crossed my kind we could need something! I almost forgot the food. I have seen some unfavorable reviews but I will vehemently disagree. There were a variety of options including amazing fixe pre-set menus which showed off the chef's amazing talent. Chef Alejandro came out and we had nothing but compliments. It is a creative touch, not chicken fingers and tater tots, very creative cuisine!! There wasn't one meal that I went to that wasn't great and actually reasonable. The chef is under-rated for his originality with great and local food!. The bartender Oliver has the most fantastic smile and laugh. It is contagious and makes you even more happy to be there! He makes great drinks too.... the energy of this resort is unique in many ways. The resort was cut into the jungle so it is so serene. The villas blend w the jungle w outdoor showers and plunge pools. The scenery , animal life, and atmosphere made you relax immediately!!!! Go please go because you will not regret it---at the same time- don't drive up prices so much I wont be able to afford it!

This is the best resort I’ve ever stayed at!! There is a beautiful spa, gym in a jungle setting, and the pool and beach area are gorgeous! The sunrise in that area is the most spectacular I’ve seen! What really makes the resort stand out is the kindness of everyone on their team! Upon entry everyone greats you as a friend and the teammates are what make the resort as special as it is! Special thanks to Andres, Johnathan, Tony, Alberto, Manuel, Eric, Ernesto and the whole spa team!!

Our stay at the Viceroy Riviera Maya was a masterclass in privacy and luxury, featuring a villa and private plunge pool that we never wanted to leave. The staff were exceptional—always attentive but never overbearing—and the spa services were easily some of the best we’ve had. We did venture into Playa Del Carmen by taxi but quickly realized we should have just stayed in our secluded bubble the whole time. While the food was just okay and the digital menus were a bit of a headache to navigate, the overall experience was so stellar that we would return in a heartbeat. Just come prepared for a few mosquito bites despite the resort’s best efforts; it is well worth the price for such a serene and high-end escape.

My husband and I spent 4 magical nights at Viceroy and really hope to come back one day. The staff is wonderful: kind, respectful, attentive. The property itself is very unique and has an incredible jungle vibe: even though you're right next door to larger resorts, you feel alone in the nature. Their spa is absolutely worth a visit as well as their gym. Villa beds are so comfortable, my Oura gave me first ever 100 sleep score :D As others have already noted, food here is outstanding. Get the mayan toast for breakfast - you will NOT regret it! Overall, we had a fantastic stay & can't wait to be back in paradise!

This place is special. They pay attention to the details here and genuinely try to make your experience positive. The food is exceptional. The establishment earned my total respect when my partner returned to the room after I slept in one day and informed me that they checked in regarding my well-being and looked after her, ensuring she was comfortable and happy (thank you Pepe). That’s not something I’m used to and it didn’t go unnoticed. I’d return, she’d return, maybe you should check it out. Cab to 5th is $24, not bad when you get to live in a borderline jungle with a private plunge pool.

The Viceroy Riviera Maya is a lovely resort, hidden near Playa del Carmen - right on the beach in the Yucatan jungle. We stayed in one of the private villas. Very spacious inside and on the terrace. The private plunge pool is such a bonus. You really feel like you're alone in the world - unless you want some action. Then a short walk on a winding path through the trees and you're at their beach side pool, bar and restaurant. Very accommodating and friendly staff there. The food is well above the usual standard of other area resorts - and we've been to a lot of them. Highly recommended.

This resort was incredible. I was massively impressed by all the “small” details they included. Daily newspapers delivered to your “gate” Umbrellas at multiple locations for last min rain A painting area to paint whatever you want and keep your canvas Access to steam rooms and cold or hot showers and a “hot tub” This were just a few to mention of the little details that really stood out in a big way. In addition to that the service and care is immaculate. I have absolutely no complaints for anyone. They have a wonderful team and a few shout outs would go to Willy - our server for breakfast/lunch. A wonderful person and there was another server whom I can’t remember his name but he was also incredible for the same meal time. Very attentive, very patient with my spanish, and always helpful. Another shoutout to Erick our host who showed us around and offered assistance whenever we needed it. Erick gave us a wonderful taco recommendation for El Fogon which was wonderful. We are huge fans of classic mexican so tacos de asada y arrechera were our choices. But truly, thanks to the entire team for the amazing work they do all the time for all the guests. We WILL be back!!

This review is for one of the only two beach front villas. We stay in Villa 51. It had a gorgeous ocean view. It was very convenient, located just next to the main pool and restaurants. The bedroom and the bath area was very spacious and comfortable. The massage at the spa area was excellent. It was in a large covered but open area with lush vegetation and a you could hear water flowing which created a very relaxing venue. We really enjoyed the free acrylic painting area. The staff were very friendly, they brought the canvas, paint brushes and paint to our rooms. Dinner was high quality with very delicious food. There are several blemishes during our stay. The decoration looked a little dated. There are large coconuts directly above the outdoor shower which potentially could be a hazard. In fact there were two fallen coconuts on the shower pad. There was very loud music with drum beats from afternoon till 11 pm on our first day of arrival which was a Sunday coming from adjacent beach club or hotel that was hosting a weekend long party. Finally there was no water for several hours on two of the days during morning to afternoon due to repair of a broken pipe. They did credit us with $200 for the lack of water supply. Overall it was still a pretty good experience.

Maybe my favorite hospitality experience ever. It was so beautiful there. The jungle setting may not be everyone's vibe, but I wasn't put off by it at all (and I tend to be very picky) because the rooms were nice and kept very clean, and the personal plunge pool is a really great touch. Being tucked away in the jungle was really cool and added to the calm, quiet vibe of the property. One potential downside is that the beach does get some seaweed, so if it's important to you that you get some time swimming in the ocean, you may want to keep that in mind, but that's just nature and can't really be helped! We weren't bothered by it—the lounge beds on the beach were so comfortable, we were hanging out there pretty much 9-5 every single day. The pool is a great option, too. All of the staff were warm, attentive, and consistently went above and beyond. Especially Pepe, who took excellent care of us on the beach each day. The food was ridiculously good, which I think is somewhat rare for a resort setting (especially all-inclusives), so that was a really pleasant surprise. Our dinners at Marea in particular were outstanding, but every single meal we had was fresh and delicious. We are so, so sad to learn they're temporarily closing for renovations. We were hoping to come back in 2027! We are looking forward to returning when they do finish up, though, and hope it's just as special as it was the first time.

This hotel was an absolute dream. The room was exceptional, with the private pool and outdoor shower being great additions. Every staff member we encountered was so helpful. The pool area was never too crowded that we could not find a chair and the pool temp was perfect. While the beach is small and we were there during an unexpected January sargassum influx, I still enjoyed sitting on the beach and listening to the waves. This resort was worth every penny. We did the all-inclusive package and felt that we got our money's worth on it. It was absolutely perfect for a short, romantic trip.

Before reviewing the resort, I'd like to give a special shoutout to a few of the wonderful workers here at Viceroy Riveria Maya. First, is Joel. Joel was the 1st person we were met when we arrived, and took care of us throughout our stay. He really made the experience what it was. Not only was he professional and kind, he really wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. He was quick and attentive on WhatsApp, and made sure to find us each day to ask how we were doing and what we needed. As a local he has wonderful recommendations about food and activities. I can honestly say that without Joel we would not have had the same experience. Second, is Antonio. Antonio was working in the restaurants, and would deliver our breakfast to our villa. What stood out for me was how respectful he was. Each morning he would arrive and knock on the door. Once opened, he would ask me if it was okay for him to enter. I just called for him to deliver breakfast, opened the door for him to come inside, and have already gone through this process a couple times, but still, each time, he made sure to ask to enter. Third, is Davide. My wife and I booked the private cenote tour through the hotel, and Davide was our guide. Viceroy must gone through an extensive hiring process, because Davide knew so much about not only the nature, but the cultural information about where we were swimming. He was the perfect guide; reassuring and informative. I know I am leaving out so many people, from the cleaning staff, to the rest of the restaurant staff; just know they are all masters at their professions, and you feel like you're in a $5,000/night resort. This resort has ruined all other vacations for us. I took my wife and I here in November for our honeymoon and her 30th birthday, and we had the most amazing time. This boutique resort would easily get 100 stars if I could. We are even seriously looking into booking again before they close for upgrades, and trying their sister location in St. Lucia. The drive from the airport is about 30-45 minutes, and I highly recommend you book transport through the hotel. You are picked up in a new, black Suburban, greeted with drinks and fresh, cold towels. There are more refreshments and towels inside. The driver is respectful and fun. Once we arrived at the hotel grounds, we went through a gate and drove up to the concierge. A fun touch to the resort is the layout. Where most hotels have a closed concept, this hotel's "front desk" is actually a large, open rotunda. This really sets up the entire experience; getting you one with nature as soon as you arrive. Check-in is quick, and more towels are given. We were also given an amazing tea while we waited. Once check-in is completed, you are given a tour of the property, and then brought to your villa, where we were given a complimentary drink of mezcal. We were also invited to participate in a quick, but beautiful welcome ceremony at the spa. The villas here are the star of the show. We were upgraded from the Royal Villa, to the Premium. The only difference I believe is the size of the bathroom/closet area, and the Royal having a larger "backyard". We were happy with either room. The villa was spacious, and most importantly, cold. They have several large AC units to ensure we were comfortable. The bed was 10/5 stars for comfortability, and the lighting around the bed frame and ceiling was an amazing touch. The interior bathroom was beautiful and spacious; we didn't feel on top of each other as we got ready together. The tub is grand and easily fit us both. We did not use the interior shower, as we preferred the outside shower, which is amazing and comfortable whatever time of the day/night you use it. The plunge pool was amazing, and we were told they can easily adjust the temperature. We used it a couple times, but we always prefer lounging by the beach. It is definitely nice to get in after the beach and before showering for dinner. The hammock and lounger are great touches for after showering, late night cigar, or eating breakfast. The vaulted ceilings throughout the villa open the space tremendously; quite and intelligent design. They take the theme of the outside jungle space and seamless blend it into your room. There are even cute animals that live around the resort; a few cats, a smaller type of Capybara, and Coatis which are like little racoons. Whether you're going for fish, meat, veggie, the food at this resort is top tier. There are 2 restaurants onsite, and you can order from any menu regardless of which you are sitting at. You can even order meals to your loungers on the beach. We ate lunch this way several times and I highly recommend. Most nights there is a theme at one of the restaurants; where it be their take on Surf & Turf, Grill Night, a local Mexican chef, there is always something new to try. Reservations weren't required during our stay as occupancy wasn't full. We did their mezcal and taco tasting, and what a treat this was. If you're someone who likes whiskey, you'll love this. The mezcal is almost like a smoky tequila. I also recommend trying their local beer options. The IPA was amazing. The beach is where we always spend most of our time, and this beach was incredible. Beaches in Mexico are public, but due to the location, we didn't have too many locals around. There was a massage place a couple buildings down, so you get a few solicitors, but it never felt overwhelming. There are several reclining loungers with umbrellas, and even a few swinging beds with netting. The beds were large enough for both of us to eat lunch on. There are side tables to put your drinks on, fitting a cocktail and a bucket of ice for water bottles. Throughout the day people will come by asking if you're okay, and offer you cold towels, clean your sunglasses, and bring around little bites of fruit or dessert. While these things aren't required, they were nice touches. The beach itself is short, only about 10-15' away from the water. Due to the fact we were in a jungle, the ground is layered with rocks. You need to be very careful walking into the water for the first 10-20', and then it gives away to all soft sand. There is a row of large rocks about 50' out that helps the water remain calm. I cannot speak too much on the pool, as we camp out on the beach, but it's right before the beach, and a nice way to cool off with a quick dip if you do not want to venture out past the rocks in the ocean. With both the beach and the pool, there is plenty of seating. I did not once see anyone looking for, or fighting for seating. Our only experience leaving the resort was the tour of the private cenote. As Davide explained to us, most cenotes are owned privately. Though they hold cultural and religious significance, it's still land, like a lake or pond. This cenote has been leased to and only used by the resort, so it was quite clean and safe. This was our first time even hearing the word cenote, but think of a small, closed cave with water to swim in. It was a circle with a diameter of about 50-100', huge vaulted ceiling with holes to let in sunlight, and went down about 10-80' depending on where you were swimming. Their is a tree and stalactite in the center, but other than that you can swim freely. Davide provided us with snorkel gear, fins, life vests, and flashlights. When the sun isn't peaking through the ceiling the flashlights are a great way to view the cave walls and down into the water. We were quite nervous when we initially got into the water. This is a completely private tour, and after seeing the film The Cave as a child and already not loving swimming in such deep water, I did not think I would enjoy this. But, once the initial nerves wore off after a few minutes, and the sun hits the water, we felt the cultural significance of this spot. Religious or not, you feel something here, even if it's just the feeling of getting back with nature. Once we spent a little time just the 2 of us, Davide asked if we wanted him to join us in the water and show us around. I strongly urge you to let him. Adding a 3rd person, who's also experienced, really eases up any nerves we had, and he was a wonderful guide. We swam all around the room, and he told us about each part of it. Towards the end he leaves you alone again. There is a rope swing you can use too. After we left the water, we were given lunch and bug spray while Davide got us ready to leave. Though the cost of this tour may seem high, if you can afford it, do it once. There are other, cheaper options, but they aren't private, the cenotes aren't as nice, and you won't get the same experience without Davide. My wife and I have both traveled extensively, and have stayed at some of the most wonderful hotels and resorts, and this is top 3 for us. Everything they do; from the service, to the food, to the interior design, the staff, is all perfect. The size of the resort is what really got us. There are only 42 rooms, and even with most of them occupied, and the small size of the hotel grounds, you never feel on top of anyone. I hope it stays this way after their expansion. I'm sure there are things and people I missed in this review, but I cannot argue for going here enough. I have told every single person I know about this place and I will continue to do so. 10000/10 stay, and we hope to go back before closing.

Our favorite place on Earth! The vibe here is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than any any other resort you’ll find. It’s private, quiet, sensual and romantic. The staff can’t do enough for you! I think this was our 24th trip here. They’ll be closing May 1 for 12-18 months for renovations but get there before they close if you can!!! Also know that the all inclusive option is totally worth it, food is AMAZING!!

The chef created menu helped to create a sense of desire to experience many of the exquisite dishes. All the staff at the resort consistently deliver exceptional service with warmth and professionalism. From the front desk to all the restaurant servers and housekeeping, every member of the Viceroy Riviera Maya team was attentive and eager to assist in making our stay perfect. The Viceroy Riviera Maya is truly exceptional — one of the best vacations we have ever taken. From the moment we arrived, we knew this stay was something special. The service was outstanding across the board — every single team member went above and beyond with genuine warmth and attention to detail. After a long day of travel, being greeted with cool, frozen towels that not only refreshed us but smelled absolutely amazing was such a thoughtful touch. Even while relaxing on the beach, those same little details continued to elevate the experience. Our private villa exceeded every expectation. The outdoor moon shower and heated plunge pool were exactly what we were looking for and truly made the stay unforgettable. The privacy, peacefulness, and jungle setting created such a serene and romantic atmosphere. Hats off to the chef — every meal and snack was absolutely scrumptious. The quality, presentation, and flavors were consistently outstanding. My husband was especially happy that Michelob Ultra was available (a small but appreciated win 😊). The spa was tranquil, relaxing, and beautifully done — the perfect place to unwind and fully disconnect. We were already prepared to book our return visit when we learned the resort will be closed next December for renovations, which was very disappointing. We sincerely hope that any future expansion preserves the peaceful, intimate essence that makes this resort so special. Adding large buildings or significantly increasing the number of rooms would truly change what makes this place magical. We would absolutely love to return and hope to do so in the future. If the resort is not open next December, we will sadly be trying another destination — but The Viceroy Riviera Maya has set the bar incredibly high. Highly, highly recommend.
