My husband and I just got home for TRS Cap Cana after a 10 day stay. The weather was beautiful – the people were very kind and friendly – the resort was very close to the airport (big plus!) and was quiet when we wanted it to be, but we could also enjoy the usual resort activities/music/festivities when we wanted. The 2 pools were great (one was the party atmosphere and the other was quieter – but the music could still be heard and enjoyed!). The hotel room was “worn” but nothing that would cause us concern – the rooms were big and spacious and the cleaning staff were great – never had to be tracked down! We always had towels. Having said all the good things – the service was spotty – at best. As an example, we left a restaurant one night after we waited for 20 minutes for our order to be taken. We were sat, offered water, told where the breads and cheese were – we were selecting our meal (I had selected mine and waiting on my husband so I went to get some bread and cheese). While I was gone, they offered my husband an alcoholic drink and he said he would wait for me to return, and once I returned, we waited, my husband went and got his bread/cheese and we waited. We waited for 20 minutes from this point for our order to be taken, or drinks to be offered and nothing. We got up and walked out. There was some sort of manager that asked how our meal was and I responded that we didn’t get served so were leaving – and he was like “no no” and I kept on walking. The hostess caught up to us and talked to my husband and he told her what happened – she asked for our room number – I thought maybe we would get an apology, or something – and nothing. Absolutely nothing. We ordered room service that night. Other nights we didn’t get offered a second drink or dessert – it didn’t matter what restaurant we were at. At the pool, drink service was spotty too – but the 2 servers that they did have were awesome – I think they are simply understaffed at the pool (the restaurants seemed to have lots of staff milling around). We often got our own drinks. Breakfast buffet, room service and the beach snack bar was our best experience for food. When we checked out the agent asked if we had any feedback – and I told her “service” and she said “okay thanks” and that was it! We won’t be going back.

My husband and I are in our late 30s and were traveling without the kiddos this time so we greatly appreciated an adults only resort. Some key takeaways: -Less than 15 min from PUJ! (Book a car ahead of time!) -The resort itself is the perfect size in our opinion not like the huge mega resorts where you need a dang bus to get from one area to the next. Every area is easily accessible. -The staff is absolutely wonderful in all areas! -Breakfast is the only buffet style meal and there’s still an omelet station. For lunch you can choose to go to the sit down restaurant or grab poolside food from the snack bar (great burgers!) For dinner you’ll have your choice from 3 a la carte restaurants. The steakhouse was our favorite! This was a huge hit with us because at the mega resorts it’s nearly impossible to get a reservation at the a la carte restaurants so you end up with buffet every night. -The beach area is small but very well maintained with a pier next to it with a walking loop -There are 2 pools in great condition (I will say the water was a little chilly in February but certainly refreshing!) -Waitstaff rounds the pool for drinks frequently but you can always go to the pool bar by swim or walk up around the side (highly recommend the Dirty Monkey!) -We had a marina facing room which had a beautiful view and a great sized balcony. Rooms were large and very nice -Housekeeping was excellent! -The entertainment staff is the perfect mix of engaging but not overly pushy if you don’t want to participate. They were lovely and we found ourselves participating quite a bit! -We had a wonderful time and are already planning to come back next year! A special note: Some of the staff spoke very limited English and we noted more than one guest be rude when the staff couldn’t understand their English. Please remember you are *choosing* to travel to another country where English is NOT the main language. Be kind! :)

Upon arrival we were offered the upgrade to Premier which we accepted at £80 per night. For this you received the following 3 bottles of premium alcohol Sun lotion Al a carte breakfast Show Seating area around the pool In reality The tiniest bottles of alcohol I’ve ever seen Shared sun lotion Al a carte Breakfast (told to get our own)🙈 Pool area was extremely noisy Service wasn’t great to begin with but did improve dramatically and we were looked after. BUTLER! “What Butler” Had to ask another Butler to get ours to respond to our requests and to introduce himself. Beach area is terrible, no effort to tidy up! The beach restaurant served me partially frozen breaded Brie 🙈 90% of staff are absolutely useless, food orders wrong, the drinks orderers were on another level, it became a running joke to see if they would ever get it right. Room Service 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 this first time using this, I was told to call my butler, not a problem if he answered our messages. The second time my husband didn’t feel well probably too much sun. we went to the room and our butler called to ask if he was ok. He offered me some room service so I asked for spaghetti bolognaise and some soup, this was around 8ish. By 10pm nothing had arrived, I called room service and the man was so rude. The food eventually arrived at 11pm but lo and behold I ended up with 2 spaghetti bolognaise. There seemed to be an odour coming off of it but I was hungry so I ate it. I went out onto the balcony then came back in the room and the smell was terrible. I had to put the plates outside. The next evening I didn’t feel particularly well, I had to go back to the room and from around 7pm onwards I was projectile vomiting with severe diarrhoea. The vomiting stopped early hour but the diarrhoea continued for 9 days. Fortunately we were staying in the Dominican Republic for 25 days. 6 nights of this was in TRS CAP CANA. I can honestly say we would have checked out of there if we had to stay another night. It has to be the worse hotel I have ever stayed in for over 30years. Don’t make the same mistake as us! For a similar price go to Serenade!

Oh dear, there is no way this is a 5 star resort! We were really looking forward to this resort having stayed at a TRS in Mexico last summer but this was very disappointing. The good bits - the bed was very comfortable, plenty of sunbeds available and it was quiet around the pool (the small one!) Massive thanks to Broule who appeared at our table one evening when our dinner was a total nightmare. Every time he was around, our meal was great! He needs to be cloned and be available in each restaurant at every meal time! Now the issues - none of which were terrible, but add them all up and everything was a bit of a pain. THE ROOM 1. Lock on the door didn't work 2. Sink plug didn't work 3. Tap on sink leaked at the base and soaked everything in the vicinity 4. Shower - there is a secret to getting hot water which they didn't bother sharing with us until we complained! 5. Day 2, we had a message to say they'd fixed everything except the sink - so just the lock on the door then. 6. Day 3, a maintenance man appeared about 4.30pm and told us we needed a plumber! He then came back with a new tap, another person and between them they fixed the tap and the sink. RESTAURANTS 1. The app tells you which restaurants are open each day, but sadly that isn't actually the case! We had to wait for a WhatsApp message every day to say which ones were open and then we had to reply to the butler to book as the app booking didn't work most of the time. 2. Food was okay but not consistent - I had Chicken & Bacon Caesar Salad for lunch most days but sometimes it had no bacon, other days no croutons and another day it had no dressing! It's not difficult is it - 5 ingredients! Maybe the choice was to perm any 3 from 5..... 3. I had the Braised Rib in the Italian one night - it was supposed to come with roasted leeks. It didn't. When I asked, they just said 'oh yes, we don't have those' 4. Rare steak could be anything from Rare (not often) to very well done. Why bother asking how we would like it cooked if it was just random? BREAKFAST 1. Toaster didn't work on day 1 (and many other days too!) They did the toast in the kitchen and brought it out to us - only toasted on 1 side! 2. I ordered crepes on day 1 and eventually received a smoothie! I pointed to Crepes on the menu and then received 3 tiny crepes, stone cold. I gave up! 3. Cereal - my husband had cereal most days which was readily available. Sadly bowls, milk and spoons proved difficult just about every day. Most days he ate his cereal with a teaspoon! 4. Butter - Not always available and rarely displayed with ice which would have helped it to stay more buttery and less oily! 5. Jam - okay, I'm fussy, I like Strawberry Jam which was available most days but not others COFFEE SHOP Why is it only open until 6pm? We tried to get Irish Coffee which is on the menu and on the board but gave up and had Cappuccino instead. All in all, this is not a 5 star resort by any stretch of the imagination. If you want a fairly quiet resort with average service and terrible food, this is the place to go.

The balinese bed never dried enough to use and the chaise loungers were dry rotted so they couldnt be used either. so only thing that could be used was the small plastic chairs. and couldnt use the balcony at all when it rained due to no cover above. Food and service also inconsistent , some meals were very good and prompt service but others the service was not good. one night at Helios our order was "lost" and multiple waiters asked us if we had ate yet and what did we order? Steakhouse and the Italian were much better. Breakfast buffet good but not great since some of the choices were not hot. Beach area was not useable but we did know that when we booked, Service around the resort was okay overall but our Butler Isiahis was outstanding....best part of the stay. The grounds were very pristine not a 5 star resort in our opinions and would choose somewhere else if we do go back to the DR.
