Wedding Planning Tips For Grooms
It can be easy to overlook the groom during the wedding process, so although we love beautiful brides, this list is especially for the gents. Fellas, you just proposed (Congrats!) but your task list is far from complete. In the months prior to your Big Day, don’t go into hiding! Wedding planning is not a punishment and you are more than a checkbook. Your input is valued and needed! Here is a list of ways you can ensure your Wedding Day goes off without a hitch.
10. Choosing the Date.
After the initial excitement of this life-changing event, it’s time to sit down with your fiancé and choose a date for your nuptials. Will it be on the day you met? Perhaps when you became an official couple? Should you exchange vows on a holiday like New Years Eve or Valentine’s Day? Think about dates with a special meaning for both of you and feel free to get creative.
9. The Guest List.
Now is the time to get started on that guest list. Before you can pick a venue, you need to have an idea of how many people you’ll be inviting. Figure out a number and make sure it works with your budget before doing the invites—even if it means sitting down with your parents to make sure you don’t forget any family members!
8. Picking your Posse.
Plenty of grooms find it hard to decide who’s going to be their Best Man & Groomsmen. Politics aside, this should always be a personal choice. The criteria for any groomsmen should be that they are truly happy for you and you want them by your side.
7. Suiting Up.
Now that you have your posse in line, it’s time to get dapper. Chances are, the bride will upstage you but while all eyes are on her, she’ll be gazing at you. Take the time to find the perfect tux or suit for your wedding day, and look your best for her just as she will for you.
6. Ways to Help.
If you don’t want to sit through floral consultations or pick out linen colors, take over another meaningful task. What about finding entertainment? Choose between a cool DJ or a live band. Surprise your bride-to-be by selecting your “first dance” song!
5. The Honeymoon.
Don’t let your bride stress out about post-wedding plans. Surprise her with a romantic getaway that will sweep her off her feet. This will take time and effort, so start planning your honeymoon at least six months prior to saying “I do.” Be sure to consider not only your interests, but your fiancé’s as well. No one wants to be in the doghouse on their wedding night! Are you an active couple? Try active honeymoons. Want something unique? Explore an adventure honeymoon. Beach bums? Laze away on a secluded island paradise. Do you want to stay at a big resort, or an intimate bed and breakfast? Talk to married friends and get creative, because the possibilities are endless!
4. Groomsmen Gifts.
Don’t forget to have your “Thank You” gifts for your fellas ready to be handed out at the rehearsal dinner. Think personalized flasks, leather cardholders or monogrammed cufflinks.
3. Put A Ring On It.
Before you can exchange vows in front of loved ones, you must secure the wedding bands and obtain a marriage license. Make sure all the details are taken care of well ahead of time!
2. Loving Words.
Don’t forget to toast your bride at the rehearsal dinner! And while there’s no rule for how or when you should write your vows, it almost goes without saying that they should come from the heart.
1. Sweet Touches.
Grooms, no matter how much you’ve contributed, know that your fiancé has worked just as hard (and probably stressed twice as much). On the day of, don’t forget that even the smallest of gestures can go a long way. Your soon-to-be Mrs. took the time to find the gown of her dreams, sit through hair and make-up, and look her absolute best for your special day. So as you greet your guests, pick up her gown, fix her veil, give a gentle kiss and whisper “I love you.” The day goes by so fast and it’s those little things that she will remember most!
