The Peech Hotel is an eco-chic boutique hotel set in the suburb of Melrose, a short stroll from the hustle and bustle of the city of Johannesburg. Originally a private residence built in the 1950's, the property was transformed into a hotel in the early 2000's by James Peech, and specializes in being a 'home from home' when in Johannesburg.
Accommodation is in sixteen bedrooms all with expansive views across the lush one-acre gardens. Within the main house, the original part of the property, there are two House Rooms. Around the gardens are the annexes, which feature Garden Rooms and Garden Suites. A full breakfast is included and there is unlimited WiFi access. There are well-appointed bathrooms with 'Raindance' showers, deep baths and the hotel has all modern amenities such as air conditioning, laptop safes, coffee stations and king sized beds. A renewed emphasis on eco-driven luxury has seen the hotel turn to solar water heating as well as grey water recycling but without losing the attention to detail or chic style that it is known for.
The bistro serves dishes that reflect what The Peech is all about - simple, laid-back and chic with an understated touch of sophistication. The menu is designed to use only the freshest seasonal ingredients from locally sourced suppliers and the hotel’s own vegetable garden.
The hotel is located near the city's main shopping and business hubs and positioned in a suburb with boutiques, cafés and an adjacent park. Knowledgeable staff are able to guide guests around the city to ensure that a stay in Johannesburg is an enlightening one.
The Peech champions responsible tourism by blending awareness for the environment and the community and is also Fair Trade Tourism certified. It has been described as “Contemporary, edgy and Afrocentric” by Condé Nast Traveller, and was awarded ‘Best City Boutique Hotel’ in Africa at the 2014 World Boutique Hotel Awards.
