After thoroughly enjoying our time at Baraza, we strolled next door to the Zanzibar Collection’s Palms Resort for a more exclusive stay at the six-villa resort. Tucked on the eastern coast in a forest of palm trees, this rustic chic getaway is made for couples relaxation.

Like Baraza, the Palms had total Swahili sophistication but on a more intimate scale.  We loved that each evening the hotel would arrange a surprise sundowner spot for us TO savor the moment with a fruity concoction and a gorgeous view. 

Our thatched roof villa included a private patio, living room, sit-down bar, huge bedroom, walk-in closets, his-and-her bathroom, and an extra room for lounging, dreaming, stretching, or whatever we pleased.

Though our favorite feature of our suite was perhaps our outdoor jacuzzi. This welcome bottle of champagne was one of the many gifts the hotel showered us with, including a fruit platter, Palms sunhats, and kangas (the fabulous Swahili-style sarongs).

To take privacy and decadence to a new level, we also had our own beach cabana. This huge lounger was the best spot for relaxing with a freshly made cocktail. Speaking of cocktails, we loved that each evening the hotel would arrange a surprise sundowner spot for us savor the moment with a fruity concoction and a gorgeous view.

The food was absolutely outstanding at the Palms. With a bounty of seafood, Zanzibari spices, and tropical flavors the cuisine was contemporary, but with a distinct sense of place. Enhancing the local flavors, live Swahili music accompanied our meal.

As sister resorts, the Palms can extend Baraza’s facilities and activities to their guests and with this, we borrowed two bicycles and snorkel gear to explore the coast from the sand to the sea. We biked a couple kilometers along the ocean-carved cliffs and arrived at the most amazing dive spot. The world of vibrant fish, coral, and kelp kept us underwater for nearly four hours.

To wrap up a perfect day, we took in the last of the sun by the Palms Pool and then headed into the Sanctuary Spa for an hour massage. For couples looking to de-stress and simply be with each other in a soothing and  seductive place, the Palms has got your number.
