Island Fun at Kohama Resort

Some hotels have an incredible location, restaurant, and pool and then just rest on their laurels. Not Hoshino’s Risonare Kohama. This fabulous resort has so many activities and relaxing outlets–18-hole golf course, full spa, windsurfing, yoga, three restaurants, two pools, bike riding, mini-safaris, star-gazing sessions, and beautiful grounds to drool over –that wanted to extend our stay two weeks!

One of our favorite things about Risonare Kohama is the presence of water. Not just the ocean in front of the resort but the system of rivers and ponds they have designed to weave through the property. This is a look at the river in front of the swimming pool and restaurant twinkling at night.

Our suite was set on a secluded spot on the bend of the river, making us feel like we had our own island cottage. Wrapped in tropical fabrics (this nook as well as Anne), this grand window seat was made for excellent views and refreshing natural breezes.

Some bathtubs just beg to be enjoyed. With curvaceous lines, an outdoor garden, and all the best eau de toilette accessories, this porcelain soaker was calling our name.
After a thoroughly refreshing rest in the room, we jumpstarted our evening with Kohama’s signature safari. The property is set on an sub-tropical forest so each evening a guide takes guests out in the golf cart to spot everything from wild peacocks to exotic fruits.

All the food at Kohama was delicious but our romantic dinner was out-of-this world. Sitting at our candlelit table overlooking the infinity pool, we were spoiled as honeymooners with a bottle of champagne, an incredible five-course meal, and chocolate truffle cake personalized just for us. After dinner the waiter suggested we go down to the beach bar for complimentary mulled wine and stargazing session. It was the perfect nightcap to the perfect night.

The next morning the resident fitness instructor at Risonare Kohama was running a complimentary yoga/stretching class on the beach. With a beautiful sunrise on the horizon and the foreshadowing of the windsurfing boards, this photo sums up the beautiful, relaxing and exhilarating time we experienced here.

Kohama Island is a world-class windsurfing location, so we had to sign up for a lesson. Our instructor was fantastic and got us cruising down the shore in no time.

To soothe our freshly worked muscles and enjoy Kohama’s sumptuous spa, we booked a couple’s massage but as it turns out… it was a surprise honeymoon treatment. The room was covered in flowers and there was a hibiscus petal spa bath drawn for us. The masseuses gave us Okinawan ice tea and left us to enjoy the hot tub and views to the ocean before our incredible 60-minute massage.

Rather than rinse off at the spa, we went back to our suite for a proper farewell to our suite. We popped a bottle of sake and took a final soak in our outdoor bath tub. We toasted the beautiful island of Kohama and gave a special kompai TK toast to the wonderful staff at Hoshino Risonare Kohama and our unforgettable honeymoon stay.

Much love from Kohama Island,
Mike & Anne

P.S. Hoshino Risionare Kohama invited us to be their guests; however all opinions are our own.
